It’s a start, when you implement that guesting thing, implement payment for transfer on the same update. Shoot 2 birds with one update :P Many will argue we have friends on “that” server… well if you have let them invite you as a guest and play as long as you like with them.
This doesn’t really solve the problems:
First off Alliances will still hop servers all together once the server resets (after 7 days) to pick on lower tier servers and generally ruin WvW for two other servers.
It still doesn’t solve the problem of WvW games where there are still 2 hour – 30 min waits (which still generally ruins the experience of gamers on paticular servers)
I propose these solutions:
To simply implement a gem cost to do server transfers to discourage most gamers in guilds from co-operating in immoral gaming practices such as mass server hops.
Increase the wait to transfer to 2 weeks and allow players to send requests to make server transfers by manually contacting Anet via mail.
Manually increase the size of full servers and the amount of players allowed to be in their respective WvW games.
obviously it is not a perfect solution, but it will yield these POSSIBLE positive and negative results:
1. Gamers can pay $$$ to transfer guilds bi-weekly (Anet makes $$$, gw players will get angry[some already are])
2. People can send phony e-mails, or call the office with misleading identies (which can create huge problems and possible issues that can break real life laws[ID theft = not ok btw])
3. Increasing server size can be expensive
anyway these are my pennies for thoughts
Sorry, but this does nothing for the PvE players (of which there are more than pure WvW’ers) struggling to get by bugged content such as the Arah door, Balths temple and loads of other DE’s and Skill points across the land where changing servers is currently the only way to do that bugged content
So submit a bug report and do other stuff. Its what I’ve done.
Thanks to no guesting such people are now stranded, being unable to team with friends and guildies after being able to do what they wanted to.
They’ve been given time to transfer to the server of their choice, thats hardly being stranded.
Finally, hope this stops allot of people for hopping to the 1/3 best server who dominate the 2/3.
Meh too little too late. So i just change server friday after the results are announced thanks anet.

How about a checkbox on the login screen
[Y/N] I want to participate in WvW
- You can only change this WvW participation checkbox once a month
- when N then server transfers are free (aka for the PVE only croud)
- when Y then server transfers are not posible
Combine it with guesting and it will suit my ever changing WvW vs PVE needs perfecly
People like winning more than anything. Especially, when rewards are linked to the immediate act of winning. Especially, when there is no investment in a match or a map beyond the current siege you are participating in. Usually, you do not build anything you really expect to last longer than the current session you are playing.
With no mechanisms encouraging loyalty to a server, players will hop no matter the cooldown.
Am sorry but it’s not enough you need to block transfer to a server your server is fighting against too.

This is something, probably stop the spy tactics some, but really 7 day transfer and 7 day matches, I dont understand the logic in that.
If there is one thing you guys could get away charging for, it would be this. Instead of getting a bad rep trying to milk money out of those keys/chests via holiday events, could just charge gems for transfer. Dont have to limit how often they transfer, just charge the heck out of them. Do not see the community up in arms about this one.
Haha, 7 days, the exact amount of time to ensure people can still transfer for free to the winning team, every single match. This makes no sense Anet… please explain the logic here. I mean, it’s better than nothing, but still, how did you come up with that number? Shouldn’t it be ANY number larger than the 7 days each WvW match lasts?
This will have absolutely zero effect. Full/high servers should be paid for to join them while lower populated servers should be free.
Only then will people truely think if they really wish to pay money to join high population server with enormous queues.

Majority of the people refuse to pay those outlandish prices for gems. If that is their only way of keeping the game alive..the future looks grim. Sorry arena but a lot of your stuff is junk . Styles can only be worn if you’re not in battle (boring and pointless). Minis..well I’ve only seen a few so the popularity of those are 0. Karma boost doesn’t work as intended and I don’t think the magic find work either since I get the same type of loot with 0-3%. I’ve had 75% and either got 0 or junk loot. I am SURE I am not the only one that has experienced this.

It is indeed a start, but this won’t be enough. Every server jumper out there will just have to decide what day each week he or she will determine the winner and jump to it. Probably Saturday afternoon for most of them.
My server hasn’t seen a close game since our match against SoR and YB 3 weeks ago. We are getting outmatched while falling in the brackets. The rating system is uselss until server populations calm down.
I’d have gone with a minimum of 8 days and added a cost for high teir realms. Also transferring to a server you are currently competing with should be delayed until the next reset.

Exactly! This doesn´t change anything; Unless Anet also gives a 7day penalty on playing WvW after transfer.
Hope this will prevent top server leechers.
This may stop some of the leeching but I’m sure there are hardcore server patriots that would sacrifice a week of fighting other servers for leeching the enemy server. I think they should also add a wvw restriction to the transfers where they can only join wvw the next match up…..

Contrary to popular belief, ANet actually makes money hand over fist from these silly sales. People will buy anything. If you’ve ever played WoW, you might have heard that the “Celestial Mount” went on sale and earned Blizzard $2,000,000 in four hours.
Honestly, ANet’s strategy is to focus on keeping the PvE, casual players happy with the transfers since it is their greatest source of incoming by far. PvP in MMOs only account for a small percentage of the population. Until they get guesting in, you can bet your money that WvW will always take the hit and get less priority since our audience isn’t their big money-maker.

It is a bloody good first step. Nobody said that it is going to stop here. You have to make changes gradually.
You can’t just go from free every day transfers to if you transfer you’ll get shot in the face and your family will have to pay for the bullet.
It’s a good start and it DOES show that they DO listen.

people wont waste 10g each week, and A-net can make money by people buying gold to change server each week or people can get for free by using there hard earned grinding cash from playing to change
ANet, please respond to our cries. Why was 7 days chosen and are you willing to change it?
Perhaps investing in higher quality community liaisons would help? Which is odd, because they seem to be on their game, which leads me to believe they are taking these questions to the responsible teams and the teams are not giving answers.

WOuld be nice to make it 1 free xfer per month.
Sadly this solves absolutely nothing. My server will continue to lose people. Coat tail riders will still be able to swap servers at the begining of every new match. Should be a minimum of 14 days plus a large sum of gems/gold.
I honestly don’t even know why people are going in to WvW because so far all I’ve seen is a lack of concern for it from the devs.
I agree that they should not let people transfer to servers that their original server is going up against in wvw or also have an additional penalty of being locked out of wvw when transferring. For pve people if something is bugged just report and wait until it is fixed no need to transfer for a bugged skill point or whatever.
Well this mostly solves the problem of teams your facing sending in spies/trolls of servers you are currently facing so that is some good news.
But doesn’t solve servers being deserted if huge guilds keep deciding to up and leave when they feel like it each week which is about how often it happened anyway.
For me I just like a good battle I was on SoR and enjoyed some really good matchups then this week its been a blowout so I enjoyed being able to switch off for the week to a good battle.
And now I will be stuck on a server all week in a crappy battle under the new 7 day transfers. Granted maybe this will make servers that are losing have more fight instead of transferring themselves we’ll see I guess.
Still theres too many imbalances and issues with WvW atm that they need to work on…
Orbs – needs alot of work to not make it so that this is nothing more then the best server having more of a advantage.
Outmanned buff – seriously needs a good useful buff
Rendering issues – enough said we all know
Turtling – broken game mechanics
To be honest. I think there should be a dual transfer system.
Once every 30 days for free to satisfy those looking to play with their friends.
Once every 7 days with a 700 gem cost if you wish to transfer before the 30 day limit.
This is definitely a step in the right direction
this definetly allieviates part of the problem for sure.
I honestly don’t see why so many people are looking for a WvW lockout timer in addition to a 7 day transfer time.
I think this will definetly help with the teir manipulation that we saw in past weeks because they won’t be able to get back to their server immediately so I see that as positive.
I still think 14 or even 30 is a better figure, but I’ll take the 7
And as far as it effecting PvE players. You have a server full of players if you can’t do events, then I don’t know what to say
This will not fix the people that jump ship at the end of the week.
I don’t see limiting free world transfers to be the fix on this. I think it needs something more creative.
Look, I’ve been ina guild by myself and I have had no problem whatsoever getting the influence to get what I want really alone. To the point that, even I don’t mind transferring. If this influence were scaled to how many people did the same thing or made the influence much harder than a guild to max it’s influence in a day this would highly discourage mass transfers as they would think twice about taking forever to max out their guild again rather than seeing it as if they cna do it in an hour.
Something like 3 day matchups would make the transfers not effect the game nearly as bad and the ratings would be put back in thier places in no time and they wouldn’t be farming servers for badges.
Something that doesn’t allow people to play when they transfer to a server in their current matchup for the rest of the matchup would stop a lot of griefing the other teams supply, spying, among many other problems.
There is indirect things that needs to be done then free server transfers can stay.
You need to look at base problems and solve those and you will realize it is not free transfers.
one base problem is people leaving a server while losing, well why is that? Maybe because they don’t have any hope they get more magic find and karma for being outmanned, they are fighting people who are buffed all the hell with orbs, they are outnumbered, they can’t even really paly wvw how it should be played and are almost forced to take supply camps and sentrys, or they are forced to just die over and over again and waste thier money. This leads to them transferring but transferring wasn’t the root of the problem.
One pro about having server transfers in personal conflicts with people on the server maybe theres a mass arguement and someone wants to leave but will not be paying 20 dolalrs to do so, so instead one side of the arguement says forget this game.

From a WvW point of view, this is A step in the right direction. It gives time for people to get stuck in and for the scores to settle. Im on Fissure of Woe, the lowest ranking World so yeah, I’m ALL for this change.
Try the 7 days as a trail I guess, 10-14 days may have been better. A month maybe a bit to long for some peeps.
Also lock people out of WvW for 24-48 hours when they do transfer. it will just stop people from world hopping just so they can win. not that they gain much from it.

Still no response to the multitude of concerns regarding the free transfer frequency huh? Please give us something so we don’t assume that you are just ignoring us. Community liaisons, devs, mods, give us something please.
Please address the specific questions around the 7 day frequency. The main concern is that this doesn’t solve anything for WvWvW since the free transfer frequency is not longer than the match duration.

Last I checked losing servers are still ‘Full’ population and the majority of players are just not participating in WvW. Also half of the NA servers are Full most of the day and dont allow transfers anyway, so lets just stop with this transfer nonsence.

Or have open xfers again with a small twist.
Once you xfer to another server your stats and dmg are cut by %50. After you been there for a week they are back to normal.

1st transfer iv ever done to play with a friend for a day, and now im stuck with him for a week.
i think u should have allowed a rollout for the people who’s timer was already counting down from 24hrs, instead of changing theres to 7 days (subtracting how long u had already waited)
Let us evaluate something; how often have I had to do transfers in mmo?
For gw2 ; once at the beginning.
For SWTOR; once by company merge not initiated by me
For LOTRO; never
For WOW; never
For EQ2; never
So I propose, that all transfers beyond the initial should be at a charge of 20 bucks. That puts a worthwhile limit on who can go; it also ensures that the company and the players at large benefit.

I’ve seen people who whine about free transfer all day in LA, but I’ve never seen them doing something inside wvw.
I’m guessing they’ll make transferring harder once the guest feature rolls out.
Awesome news, this week we’ve actually had players from other servers setting up trebs in front of doors and basically trolling from the teams that have outnumbered us anyway
Plus putting a time limit, it means that people can get used to the community they’ve transferred to!
Crap. I wish I had read this and I’d have transferred servers earlier. Now I’m 4 PoIs and 2 vistas short of map completion and hopped servers to get them before the new update as I fear it introduces new areas > larger world to explore. I just transferred so now 7 days to wait instead of 1
I’m going to be really pissed off if I can’t get those if the map expands with the new update and you have to complete more areas for full exploration. Stupid eternal battlegrounds and not being able to access keep waypoints and vistas…
