I just leveled my mesmer up to 80 with tomes of knowledge gained in sPvP.

What gear do I need to be effective at roaming?

And what is the fastest way to get it?

The specific stats depend on your build but badges from killing other players is probably the fastest (and cheapest) way to buy exotic gear in WvW. Do your dailies and ascended jewelry is the best and relatively cheap.

If you want the most effective roaming mesmer I have seen, that would be Blackwater.

Level a PU mesmer and run grey Armour. You will be fine

Depends if you want solo or group play. As much as I hate it, PU is extremely effective in 1vX thanks to its stealth abuse and sustain. Whether you go condi or power is up to you, but you need 30 in Chaos for it.

For groups, gl@ss (srsly Anet?) shatter mesmer will destroy people. It’s by far my favorite spec for mesmers to have in a team with me, if they play it right.

PU Mesmer is a cheesy as hell build but it’s kitten effective. There won’t be a single class you come against that can effectively fight you. So much invul, block, evade etc.

This right here. I used to think it was learn to play with the Blackwater like most other powerful builds but fighting someone of equal or higher skill leaves little chance for most builds to counter. It is a crazy powerful build in 1vX situations.
