Correction:
Some players told devs they wanted new maps. I was never in this group. I think other WvWvW related things should be solved first: Like population imbalance, better profession/skill balance, better rewards, getting rid of lag & bugs. These remain still to be solved and since Arenanet has limited resources, I hope they are NOT wasting their limited resources in making a 3rd borderland map.

While I concur with you, I do wonder whether Arenanet should pay attention to the result of the polls or not. The OP is clearly in the minority and yet believes they should listen to him/her.

Having said this, I also wonder why they implement things that only 13.7% of those polled requested.

Good question Svarty. Sometimes I think the devs have something in mind, ask the public, public disagrees, and devs implement anyway. Its like, don’t you listen at all or is this just an issue that parents know best or always right.

In any case I’m not trying to call the OP out but just stated the pattern I see. There are many issues I personally don’t believe this map is a high priority or low hanging fruit item to address.

the activity levels are super low on red bl’s in all tiers from eu to NA. might as well have an underwater map.

What is wrong with you, don’t give them any ideas, I can see it now " we distinctly remember our players asking for an underwater map for WvW ".

I would love an underwater map honestly. Wish they never got rid of the underwater PvP map. Submarines for siege and underwater keeps. Hell yeah!

I know a lot of people voted yes to the map and do not like it. Devs posted that they wouldn’t be doing continue work on maps if the desert BL was voted No to. So people voted for it in hopes that they would put work into it, and maybe even other maps. The problem is, here we are and no work being put into WvW maps. I would gladly change my Yes to a No at this point.

+1 since my vote wasn’t counted as I gave up when “do you want the DBL or do you want the DBL” poll came up. I don’t think I voted on any poll afterwards. “But you have to vote” No, not when I don’t have a choice anyway, in that case voting is absolutely pointless.
Most arguments why it should be removed have already been said. The map is suitable for EotM and that’s where it should be.

65.5% No: The Desert Borderland map should continue to be supported.
34.5% Yes: The Desert Borderland map should be permanently disabled.

Question for you, do you update your WvW rank in your signature every time you rank up or is it a weekly/monthly/annually deal? Seems like a lot of work

This. So much this. Perhaps you few people that actually like the desert BL have forgotten the reddit post by Anet where they said they wouldnt support any more map improvements in wvw if we voted no on the crappy map that we didn’t like. We were basically threatened and forced into voting for it even though we didn’t want it. So, NO. We absolutely didn’t have a proper choice of being rid of the desert BL. We were strong armed into voting yes even though we didnt want it just so they would continue to improve wvw, which they didn’t anyway.

You can win matches and still roll red from what I’ve seen. If it was a guarantee that would make winning mean something.

Desert is a terrible home borderland. I can almost finish my dailies on the other ones in the time it takes me to walk to a place to fight over in the desert.

As for cannons and mortars — they’ve never been the go-to for defence. A well-placed treb in hills (air keep) managed to keep 10 of us out with one person one week. I was impressed and vowed to learn the placement. And I did

As for garri; there are solutions to proxy catas, etc .. just experiment.

The way the side keeps are underneath the attackers negates pretty much any counter trebs. Your friend must have got lucky with a PvD group using bad placement.

I find the cannons and morters in alpine have good use, especially inner. Its like they actually designed alpine for WvW, where this dbl sure feels like a repurposed map, as many have stated.

The one that placed mortars around alpine surely wasn’t hired to put them around in desert bdl.
