Getting Into Blackgate/Jade Quarry
means the server is full , so you cant transfer , ever , unless they up server cap.
only way is to guest
They aren’t necessarily the best.
Just cause there are lots of people on the server doesn’t mean you’ll actually get to play them.
GW2 has an overflow system where if a map gets filled, players get funneled into an open server. So it’s unlikely you’d be able to play with BG players even if you are registered on BG.
A full server is full until either the population caps are increased or someone else transfers off.
Unless your goal is WvW, just guest.
Ahh I see… So would sea of sorrows be a better server to get it? Its tier 2 and not full yet

Depends – what do you want to play in GW2? SPvP? Pve? WvW? All?
All, Im into raiding and pvp. And this WVW sounds awesome.
Sounds like an EU server would be better. At least the WvW is a (little) more balanced.
~Desolation~
Well T1 servers are out of the question because it is difficult to get in, let alone participate in WvW at times due to the queues. Your best bet is to join the T2 servers.
Try Northern Shiverpeaks. One of the top WvW Devs calls that server home, so you know it’s good.
You guys…
A full server is going off how many players are on currently, so just keep trying on occasion and you’ll get in. Obviously later at night will be better as less people will be on. And welcome to Jade Quarry, the BEST server.
Also yeah it may be hard to get into jade quarry guys but that’s because we’re the best, being number 1 is a tough road you know.
Scores show you’re 3rd best.
Rainbow Sprint if I get into Jade quarry can you help me out? inviting me to the guild etc.

No. Server population is based on how many accounts housed are there. It’s not based on how many people are logged on.

Sure but you need to make a character before I can add you into onto a friendslist.

Unless they changed something, yes it is. I know you would think it’s based on people in the world in total because it’s called population.

Incorrect.
Even if we bomb out this week, we will still be 15.1 points ahead of TC (#2) in total rating.
Unless they changed something, yes it is. I know you would think it’s based on people in the world in total because it’s called population.
Populations are based on Accounts that call that server home. This has not changed since day 1. Each server has a finite about of space for accounts to be housed.
Example, a server might have 25,000 slots reserved for accounts. If the server is listed as “full”, that means 25,000 slots are filled from accounts listing that server as your main, or from people who managed to transfer in to call that server their main.
The only time a “full” server has space for new accounts is if 1) the server cap is increased on Anet’s end or 2) someone transfers off.

Absolutely incorrect.
Per the official wiki: http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/World
“You cannot move to a world that is listed as Full. However, that status varies throughout the day and tends to drop during off-peak hours, i.e. if you are unable to transfer, try again when there are fewer people playing, e.g. early in the morning (server time) or during the work week.”
I have personally transferred to and from Jade Quarry four times using this method.

Incorrect, there is no official wiki, that is player made and currently wrong.
The devs have stated multiple times that the population is based on the number of accounts on the server not the active population. That is why every server reads as “very high” or “full” even though only the top 6 servers have any people at all on them.
Unless you are suggesting that the lowest tier server that reads “very high” and has an active population of about ~50 people is the same as TC which also reads very high and has a population of tens of thousands.

You’re misunderstanding what that says. People cannot transfer to a server that has all it’s slots filled. If you managed to transfer there, that means one person transferred off. By your thinking, that means Jade Quarry can, in essence, have unlimited space for people to call that server their main.
That is untrue. Population is based on Accounts, not concurrent players online. Think of it as “server capacity”.
Also, if you transfer right now, will not be able will WvW (only EotM) because of the Tournament going on right now.

Here’s a good link for people who don’t understand how servers work.

I have to agree with Zudet.
First, the wiki can be unrealiable and there is no official link in the source from a dev stated that server capacity is based on active users and not accounts.
Second, I have seen several times on the T1 servers during primetime where they went from Full to Very High.
means the server is full , so you cant transfer , ever , unless they up server cap.
only way is to guest
Are you sure? My whole group of folks swapped over about a month ago, and another friend about a week or two ago.
Basically we just would check it’s status once in a while and we all jumped in when it hit “very high”. We were all able to do it within a day of getting the gems together.
I saw JQ,BG, and TC at “very high” this morning at about 6:30 ET. I thought they lifted the cap a bit but they’re back to full now. Just try at different times. I don’t care why it happens, but they do change throughout the day.
I’m on JQ and also know of people who just waited for server status to drop to Very High and were able to get on. Would be nice if there was an official source about how this works.
Here’s a real world example from Gaile on how server capacity works.
I don’t mean to dismiss your concerns, but couldn’t the same be said about a lot of things? “My friends and I wanted to go to the 6:30 showing of a popular film but it was sold out.” “We tried to book dinner reservations on Saturday, but they can’t fit us in until next week.” “The first available appointment for your doctor is next Thursday.” “The flight was booked solid.” Maybe the most apt analogy is, “I went Christmas shopping and it took me 30 minutes to find a parking space.”
I have seen the same server/world situation since Asheron’s Call (which was a long, long time ago). Servers have capacities and there’s no way (that I can think of) to get around that — it’s a hardware situation that must be accommodated, much as a telephone system has a specific limitation on the number of calls that it can handle.
Please note that GW2 world capacities are adjusted from time to time; in fact that happened quite recently. More importantly, world population changes take place daily when individual players move to a different world, when guilds switch worlds, etc.. And I don’t know of anyone who has this problem for more than a few days.
I do sympathize with those who have to wait a day or two to get the whole gang together and I hope that each of you will soon be good to go.
I think the movie theater is good example when you think about “full” servers. There are only so many “seats” available at any given time. If there are 200 seats, and everyone is sitting in one, then no one else can sit. Guesting in this case would be that you’re still in the theater and not “sitting down”, but rather you’re standing off on the sides. But say someone doesn’t like the movie, and leaves. Now there are 199 seats filled, with one empty for someone new to come in.
Also yeah it may be hard to get into jade quarry guys but that’s because we’re the best, being number 1 is a tough road you know.
I’m from BG server and you have made me smile. Come here while I pat you on the head.
You. sir are not the best. When BG take a rest – as sometimes we do – we smile while we see you rush in to grab some wins. As you can see this week, we’ve decided to spank you, just to let you know who is the rightful master at this table…
Now run along and stop spreading your little white lies to make yourself feel better. Good lad…
You guys…

If the server has “reserved seats” and someone must transfer off to make room…..
Why do we have overflows?
Oh, because your “reserved seat” is full. It was filled when you weren’t online. Sorry buddy.
The servers are channels, just like GW1. Hence the ease of guesting. There are no reservations. If there were reservations, you would never see an overflow.
Your “home” server only affects two things:
- Where you end up by default when you login, if your “seat” isn’t taken
- Which other servers you are allowed to beat the crap out of
Other than that, they are WvW designations and nothing more. You can go anywhere, granted there’s room, at any time.
So if I join a server that is very full at night and full by day, I have to wait to login everytime i login during the day?
So if I join a server that is very full at night and full by day, I have to wait to login everytime i login during the day?
No, because servers don’t work that way. Server capacity is based on how many accounts are housed on that particular server. So if you manage to transfer to a server that’s very high or full, then that’s were you live. However, if there are a lot of people online, you may be placed into an Overflow server, depending on which map is full. GW2 doesn’t work like some other MMOs where you need to queue up to log in.

It does not work just on account basis. I wish it did, however, that is not the case. Why do you think BG and others do mass blackouts to get more people in? If it is just accounts than blackouts would mean nothing since they still would not get in.
This is why I think there is a fundamental flaw in how it works since a server could be full and yet do blackouts and such to get more in making it even fuller. Again I do wish it would be just accounts on the server, than every full server would have the same amount of accounts, but it is not the case.
you people are kittens !
if server pop was based on accounts housed, there would be no prime time or off peak !
use your brains a little,
if it was about how many accounts are created / housed on that server it wold never change status it would always be full (in case of BG) but server status goes up and down depending on what is going on with LS or WvW tourneys, also what about all the people that guest to certain servers ? according to you they do not count towards server status or capacity.
this bullucks about server is based upon accounts created is a myth created by those that do not believe guild wars 2 is so popular yet so casual, they want to make it look as if it is dying so badly they have no choice but to invent this kind of misguided bullucks.
If the server has “reserved seats” and someone must transfer off to make room…..
Why do we have overflows?
Because overflows are zone-specific and the maximum number of ppl that can fit in a zone is much much smaller than the total population of a server.

You did not answer about why servers do blackouts. Look at BG that did it before the tourney started. They managed to get more people in by massively logging out. No one left the server, they just logged out. As I said, it should be by accounts but in what is actually happening it does not appear to be that. Blackouts would be meaningless than.

Whats another good server to join? Is DragonBrand good? Im looking for a server that does it all

Sigh: Blackouts are not people leaving a server. They are logging out to which seems to change the server status. A full server that does a blackout should not let anyone into even if people log off. That is not the case though. BG for example is a server at full status. People logged off causing it to go to high status which now allows other to gain entry to transfer. People are not moving account they are just logging off causing the server status to change.
Im a new player and from previous games Ive experienced, the Largest servers are the best. How can I get into Blackgate or Jade quarry? Its 12pm here and its still full… should yall be in school?? haha
What time zone are you? If NA then Maguuma might be the best for you assuming you can’t get into one of the 3 T1 servers. If oceanic then Sea of Sorrows is your best bet. If SEA I understand Dragonbrand still has teh biggets SEA of the T2/3 servers.
Miranda Zero – Ele / Twitch Zero – Mes / Chargrin Soulboom – Engi
Aliera Zero – Guardian / Reaver Zero – Necro

Servers have capacities and there’s no way (that I can think of) to get around that — it’s a hardware situation that must be accommodated, much as a telephone system has a specific limitation on the number of calls that it can handle.
Please note that GW2 world capacities are adjusted from time to time; in fact that happened quite recently. More importantly, world population changes take place daily when individual players move to a different world, when guilds switch worlds, etc.. And I don’t know of anyone who has this problem for more than a few days.
I do sympathize with those who have to wait a day or two to get the whole gang together and I hope that each of you will soon be good to go.I think the movie theater is good example when you think about “full” servers.
/sigh
Unless you read what I’m posting, you’ll never understand what “server capacity” is. Gaile represents Anet. She works for them. She has access to Devs, as she’s in the same office in Seattle. If you don’t want to believe her, then that’s your choice. I’ll just tell you that your “blackouts” have no bearing on when space is made on your server. If you have 25,000 accounts calling BG their main, all 25,000 of you can log out simultaneously, and you’ll still be “full”. In order for someone to transfer in, someone has to leave, or Anet increases the capacity.
Than why do server blackouts work when a mass amount of people just loging off causing a full server to go to very high?
Read my quote again… I’ll bold the important part:
Here’s a real world example from Gaile on how server capacity works.

Blackouts do nothing, they are just a myth because that is how it works on other MMO’s. Other people will able to get on the server because other guilds and players just happened to transfer off the world at the same time they were doing a mythical “blockout”. It drops from Very high to Full daily because people are always moving. It actually drops to Very high most often during prime time because that is when the most people are transferring, which is the opposite of what would happen if it was based on logins.
There are multiple quotes from devs who explained it was by account, I don’t know what else to tell you.
Maybe this will help people understand: If I were to transfer my spy account off of BG, the population will turn from “full” to “very high” for a moment. The first person to click the transfer button will get my former slot.
As you can see this week, we’ve decided to spank you
And, let it be known, the “we’ve” he’s referring to is both TC and BG. For Queue’s on JQ, we only have 15 on one map right now. If you like to play during the time you made this thread, we have plenty of room for you in WvW on JQ.

Anecdotally you’re wrong and anet probably just aren’t being totally transparent. The fact is in the last couple of weeks blackouts have worked for all 3 of the T1 servers.

“FULL” is when there is a lot of people ONLINE at a time period. Full doesn’t just mean its full. it means that there is a limit of how many people in the server are online and no one can transfer there because of the mass online people. Reall the servers can be" overfull ". If you wanna get into Blackgate. what blackgate does is a “Blackout” (I think this is a exploit) Blackout is where a lot of their WvW player all agree to log off for a few hours. A LOT of people. They seem to do good at it too. When this happens. there is a lot of inactive players on BG server. making the server “Very High” At this point all the BG “New” guilds they bought with gold can now transfer over to their server because its not full to fight in season 2. because they were ticked into being the “underdogs” by hibergating.
Anet needs to rethink their way of making a server “full”.
Lets say if your inactive for a week. then that account because inactive. and if a lot of inactive don’t paly for a week. then the server should not be full. it should be like 3 hours of inactive that you are now inactive and is 1 person less in the population.

Ban the bots
I believe that your “blackouts” are merely coincidental to a slot becoming available. It makes no sense that a server can have unlimited capacity for accounts it houses. Why do I say “unlimited”? If your server did “blackouts” constantly, that would mean people could constantly get in. But I know this isn’t the case.
Gaile’s examples are how servers work (or should work). You have limited space, and until Anet frees up space or someone transfers off, the amount is finite. 200 seats in a movie theater, all taken = full. One person leaves, meaning 199 seats out of 200 taken = very high.
This is basically turning into another conspiracy theory, since Anet says one thing, but players believe another (without proof beyond coincidence). That’s why I’ll side with Anet until they confirm otherwise.
