Getting guilds to DEFEND claims.
Me and my guild claims and defend towers against enemy zergs just for fun, isnt that the best reward of all?
Standing on a wall, waiting 2 hours for a zerg to run up to your tower doesnt suit everyone tho.

Seeing how this would
a) Give (more?) guilds (more) incentive to join into WvW
b) Provide actual benefits to defending (you know, other than PPT)
with the only downside I can think of being competition between guilds who gets to claim what … Yyyyyeeaaaaah, I think it’s reasonable to give this a thumbs-up.

This goes way beyond guilds. There needs to be a reason for anyone to defend, because right now it’s just a boring waste of time. By any measure you care to use, whether PPT or loot or just fun fights, attacking is always more worthwhile.

I’d like to see a system where guilds get influence for each tick they hold a location, that ramps up each tick. .
Would just create /afk farmers.
Have one person watch the structures and then find another to come in for relief help every 15-30 minutes…..repeat. All you need is someone calling out in advance so that the main forces get there in time.

Sounds an awful lot like defending. So… success?
The actual problem would be people with no buffs claiming things to get influence.
Great suggestion imo!

Its just part of the zerg mentality. 90% of all defensive situations are impossible and thus pointless. The other 10% is often way to easy. There is no balance here.
Leaving people behind to actually defend also take a certain kind of people. In my experience, Germans. See that abandoned keep that no one has touched for 2 hours? Nope its got 10 manned arrowcarts and 20+ people suddenly running around on the walls. It always remind me of historical films where people run out of hidden bunkers.
Has my vote.

In general, defending is either boring (when nobody comes) or impossible (when the zerg comes). In either case, it’s not very rewarding. The whole siege system is just broken on a level it would need a complete overhaul to fix.
I once wrote a lenghty post about how to make WvW look closer to real siege warfare than the zerging it’s currently, but I think the devs don’t want WvW to be about strategy, because that would take the “I’ll just go cap a couple towers before the next invasion starts” players out of it.
Here’s a link to the post, in case you’re interested:
I don’t even think it’s a matter of defending. People in other threads are complaining that attacking is useless with all the siege as well. Defending is boring/unrewarding.
The problem we are having here is that keep/fort taking and the whole WvW mechanics as anet planned are now simply failing. It’s not fun anymore. People want to fight player, not OP machinery, that’s the problem.
I hope one day they’ll actually give players good fights and stop with all thi bullkitten sige masteries and all that. People want to fight people and have fun, is that simple.
I hope that with the incoming map changes something will actually change
This topic has been brought up so many times, its no longer even interesting. Well, Anet isn’t interested in it. They would rather bring us siege mastery and capture points, and other stuff that we never asked for.
