WvWers tend to have a low tolerance for people who want things given to them.
Threatening to be disruptive and “do a lot more damage” is against the ToS and likely will lose you not only your legendary, but your entire account. Because we have had years of trolls in WvW, most are exceptionally good at documenting with videos and logs, so god love the one who tries.
If you just stand there, you’ll just get ganked. Go participate, you might find you actually enjoy it.
Because that’s what we’re doing right? Asking for them to give everything to us because the gift was free before, right?
I tried WvW, it’s a terrible environment. Blobs won’t engage you unless they’re twice your size. They’ll just cower in their towers shooting their 20 arrow cards at you, disabling your siege forever, dragging it out for such a long kitten time you’re wondering if a fight will ever happen… Or my favourite, open field siege even though you’re outnumbered in the first place. You end up running for hours and hours and only have a few enjoyable fights.
Roaming isn’t much better. A proper 1v1 always gets interrupted if it happens at all, almost no one engages you 1v1 anyway unless you’re in the middle of capping a camp or if they think you’re afk and can get an easy kill. Takes even longer to have a decent fight. If you do end up killing someone you get the salty whispers.
And then ofc I leave out the bang up job anet has done about population balance. Really fun to log in to wvw and literally see an outnumbered buff on every map including EB and home border.
Oh yeah, I couldn’t get more excited about this game mode.
Also no, in a 6 hour ruin cap session I had the other day I got killed while afk maybe 3 times and it’s not like the WP is far away.
All of you complaining about WvW, come join me on Piken. I’ll coerce Oni to run his blob clinics, to max your time/slaughter the enemy in blobs if you prefer. And I’ll get Omega to run a scout clinic and I’ll run a siege clinic. Half the frustration with WvW is getting on map and not knowing what you’re doing and then rage quitting at the first gank. We can run the map and do the ganking instead
In fact I’ll make sure I log on this Saturday on PSBL, will teach some tricks and run a group. Noon EST (which I think is 5pm London time). Meet at citadel. Look for pink Mesmer.

I find it funny how WvWer’s are over here with grins on there faces thinking this is a positive thing- or that it’s actually good for your community.
Here- let me put into perspective for ya-
1.) You now have PvEers filling up your ranks- Whom you now how to carry-who don’t know the maps, or wth is going on- In zerk gear! Grats! Best be getting your healing hands ready!
2.) You now have afkers filling up your que spots at night! How does that feel! Must feel great, knowing that each night while your in que- there is someone like me tagging a mob and than chilling at the keep every 9 minutes not doing squat.
It feels soo good right! What a fantastic change!
It wouldn’t even be so bad if WvW was even slightly playable right now, but I’m in the same boat as you. There’s rly no enjoyment whatsoever in getting trampled to death by the german horde and being outnumbered on every map. It’s basically choosing between daytime afk farm or a 30min + queue on primetime for which I would have to sacrifice valuable game time with friends in PvE. Not only that, to actually participate in the game mode you suddenly need an entire new set of gear to be slightly useful. Commanders will even shout at you for not coming on ts.
As horrible as map completion is, it’s by no means gated by any of that. You can do it whenever, solo, in whatever gear you want to use.
I play WvW solo all the time, you just need to learn how to play WvW like I had to for PvE to get my legendary. Trust me when I tell you that the obnoxious jumping needed for some vistas angered me more than a few times.

Reading some of the content’s I can not believe what I see. WvW player’s sey game force you to play PvE content to get legendary. We all playing MMORPG. Core of thats kind of games is PvE. Thats kind of games can’t exist without PvE, but can exist without WvW. I’m sure we all can find good game functioning without WvW type of gameplay, but find good MMO without PvE content. So WvW player’s if you wanna play WvW type of gameplay and dont do PvE you should play some kind of moba.
About gift of battle WvW track, it’s ugly anet move to make people play WvW becouse tbo theres not alot of people play this content and insted of making WvW more enjoyable thay force people play this. No one asked for gob track. Playing 8 h of WvW is pain.
Next topic, how people with low PC can get this gift? I had low PC and i dc’ed very often on WvW? So with low PC its gonna take ages to complite track coz after dc u losing progress i guess. This game geting worst and worst… if theres not gonna be next Raid i"m sure i’m gonna quit, i know i know no one care if i"m gonna play this game or not.
Could it have been communicated better? Yes. A blog post that went into the whys and hows would have at least been seen by a greater swath of people. I generally read the whole novella of notes, and I even missed it.
I’m sorry that some of you are having a terrible time in WvW, though. If you’d rather not ‘work’ at it… join a squad, volunteer to scout, and ask for participation credit. You’ll get way more than you will being afk, and you can just netflix in the other screen while you watch a gate. I mean, anet is at fault here. Not your fellow players. You may think you’re really sticking it to us by being a rally bot/going afk/being bad at the game/etc. but 1) we’d have that crap with or without you, and 2) we’re not to blame.
First of all; yes the main reason for this entire thread of upset people is the (purposely?) poor communication.. Atleast that’s the feeling I’m starting to get, that this whole kittenstorm wasn’t an oversight. It was intentional to avoid having too many players that already earned the right to buy the Gift of Battle stock up on it in order to avoid the new Reward Track of Boring Doom. The utter lack of response from ANets side is just feeding that feeling every single day.. And it makes me very sad.
Other than that you suggest.. join a squad. My issue with that is that there isn’t one. On ANY of the three BLs or in EB when I checked. So I guess that option is off the table then.. Too bad.
And even if there WAS one, who’s to say the squad doesn’t already have a scout? And what about everyone that can’t be the 1 scout for the 1 squad? The remaining umpteen people trying to get this Reward Track out of the way? This is just a really bad situation for a lot of people.. :/
Also, we’re not trying to “stick it” to anyone, we’re just in a game mode we don’t happen to enjoy, feel forced to be there for no apparent reason, and just want to finish what we came for in the fastest and least terrible way we can think of. For some this means tagging along with a zerg (if there is one), for others it means solo-capping camps and killing dolyaks, some pop in and do dailies and then go off and do something else, and for some it means re-capping a ruin or repairing a wall every 10 minutes to maintain participation while watching a movie.
I have a feeling most “PvE-haters” that did Map Completion didn’t bother sticking around to help out with every single event they came across; I bet they just ran from one PoI to the next as fast as possible. Did anyone complain? Doubt it. But in WvW not assisting with the objectives have a lot more consequences which is a very good reason to not force people that lack interest in there to begin with.
Most non-WvW:ers have their reasons to not be in WvW; simply put: THEY DON’T LIKE THE GAME MODE. Just like some don’t like Fractals, some dislike sPvP and some just dread PvE . And it’s usually not because they haven’t tried it, or they haven’t tried it for long enough, or they haven’t tried it “the right way”; they just don’t bloody like it.
You think you shouldn’t HAVE to do WvW where as I think I shouldn’t HAVE to do PvE.. Before I went for my legendary, my highest map completion was 3% between all of my characters lol. I had every class to 80 and in full ascended gear which I bought gems to craft. I never NEEDED to do PvE until I wanted to make Twilight.
I stand by my statement, if WvW players are forced to PvE for a legendary, PvE players should be forced to WvW for it. Having a legendary, to me, means you’re a master of all game modes.
We have already been “forced” to WvW for our Legendaries, in several different versions.. First we had to farm 500 Badges of Honor in old school WvW. Then they added Badges of Honor to Achievement Chests, and instead added the requirement of WvW Rank 30 to purchase Gift of Battle. Then they went back on this decision because “it was too harsh” and lowered the requirement to WvW Rank 14 for vendor access.. Just because most people already obtained the right to purchase the GoB it doesn’t make it “free” or “no effort” all of a sudden.. It just means we already finished it.
So we’ve been “forced” to WvW for ours, just like you were “forced” to PvE for yours. The only thing this change accomplishes is that now those of us that already unlocked GoB at the vendor, are just being forced to do it ALL OVER AGAIN for whatever reason the devs came up with this specific Reward Track for, and keep doing it every time we want a new GoB for something.
I suppose, technically, neither of us were forced; we could’ve just bought Gems, converted them to Gold and used that Gold to purchase whatever old Legendary we wanted. You even stated that’s how you aquired all of your Ascended gearsets, so why not use the same way to get your shiny greatsword if you found map completion so terrible?

If arenanet wanna keep this WvW track they should make a raid track with new gift becouse raid’s are truly PvE content. If you think doing 100% map is PvE you’r just…. I hate gift of exploration too but atleast i can get some normal materials and Black lion keys doing this, also as I said mmo can’t exist without PvE maps, but can exist without WvW so it’s obvious you need to complite all maps to get legend. WvW track is slow and if you have low PC space its take so long becouse of dc’s with make you lose tiers. Just poor devision anet.

I think removing the vendor was one of the worst things A-Net ever did. With this change they force a lot of people to spend hours and hours in WvW even if they aren’t interested in that. In a good train it takes at least 9h with 100% participation about 20h with 50% and for someone who has only time to play 1h a day, the gift of battle reward track needs around 40h-50h to complete. And that is all in a game mode that isn’t fun for most PvE Players. Noone had a problem with farming Badges of Honor or playing WvW to get the gift of battle but they just turned it into a HUGE grind.
I think reducing the reward track points to 10k is reasonable and would compare to 500 Badges but 20k is just ridicoulos
played WvW for 2 hours tonight did kitten loads of running around and got no where only just got to first chest of track line ._. its got to be hands down most boring thing ive ever done follow the zerg get the keep loss get the next keep loss the last keep run around in a zerg run at another zerg with zero reason on whats going on i can under stand pvp its 5 vs 5 skill bass but WvW zzzzzzz this is me you don’t have to agree with my comment and i could care if you don’t.

change out 11 days. Iam still halfway the gift, i played around 1 hour a day half of the days, had to change maps constantly, which reseted my participation ,some days because either we had no commander or we were badly kitten d.

Unless he had to queue up for the new maps and stood afk waiting..
But yeah, participation is time based, and will only reduce once you’ve accomplished nothing of “value” in WvW for a certain time.. It won’t straight up reset from changing maps or even leaving WvW for a short period of time though.

Hey anet while your at it, bring back map completion of wvw as part of the gift of exploration too.
I think it’s time to place Track lines in PvE after completing mastery’s up to 161 if u start the raid one that should use raid XP.
This way XP form events will be going to something for players who have done all there mastery’s it will give player’s a reason to want to do more Meta outside of the Meta rewards them sleeves.
Also Gift of Battle has always been one of those things that got a lot of grump being WvW so by adding the dungeon and Gift ones track to PvE will make it more rewarding and say i got into WvW or PvP track lines cross over giving player form PvP and WvW also a good reason to go PvE.
I believe this will help smooth all of the different parts of Guild Wars 2 for many of the older players and it also gives something for players to strive for
Again you don’t need to take the Tracks lines out of WvW i just believe being able to farm and play PvE for Gift of Battle makes a lot more scenes as 99% of the Legendary comes form PvE dungeons,frcatals, collections, crafting, farming, and Meta Events.
Please take this however you see fit i don’t believe adding Track Lines to PvE will effect the game in any negative way if anything it gives players more reason to really get out there and do events of all natures hopefully you read this and get an idea for something of this nature.

If you compare the time you have to spend for a Gift of Exploration to a Gift of Battle, everyone will have to agree that the Exploration one needs way more time and dedication than the Gift of Battle.

What if a player is not interested in some of the Mastery Lines? Why must they finish, say, Fractals to initiate the PvE Reward Tracks, instead of working on the track in WvW? Or PvP?
If there are going to be Reward Tracks in PvE, they should be selectable, and not have major prerequisites.
What can I do, I believe doing this will not only make more PvE players do more events for XP after getting there mastery’s done.
It’s very much a give and take type function to the game but a flip side to this is if a WvW or PvP players comes into PvE every so often they also get to continue their track lines giving them possible more reason to do a little pve here and there.
I’m trying to think outside of the box and i believe WvW is something that just shouldn’t be forced on players making legendaries
I did post a comment on another form page but this is my own form post to really show Areanet how much i would like this to be a part of the game.
Myself I have play of 4 years 22 lvl 80s and 13 legendaries all farmed over the years of hard work i think something like this could be a move in the right direction.
The only track line that wouldn’t be in PvE would be the PvP only and WvW only lines witch makes it fair all round if each area of the game should have its own armors and skins.

They already have the map rewards that are on an invisible (to us) track. I would prefer that they expand on that rather than add dungeon rewards, etc to doing events. Maybe add something that requires a large amount of the mats that are now barely selling above vendor prices to make them worth selling.

If you start off by assuming that gating the Gift of Battle behind a WvW reward track is wrong, how does it make things better by also adding new gates to the game that require more effort from everyone?
If your goal is setup parity in requirements between game modes, then the equivalent changes might be:
- Change the Gift of Battle system to use tokens (parallel for PvE dungeon gifts, PvP gift)
- Or, change the PvE dungeon system from tokens to reward tracks. Perhaps allow people to do any dungeon to progress (or offer a bonus to dungeon track if you’re doing that dungeon).
I don’t like how ANet communicated the change for the gift of battle (they didn’t really) and I dislike the use of reward tracks (it’s grind for anyone who doesn’t WvW regularly). However, I can’t fault ANet for trying to support active play over passive — I think that’s a good goal (I just wish they took the time to explain that’s what they are doing, if that was indeed the plan).
Accordingly, I can’t support the OP’s proposal or implied rationale for making the change.

pve has always been more rewarding than wvw and pvp and reward tracks are in those 2 game modes because otherwise you play the game and get almost nothing for your time.

There are two issues here.
1. We did WvW and earned many badges. There was no point in spending them all filling storage. This change destroyed the time and effort spent in WvW. Everyone should be upset that this happened without sufficient notice.
2. Many PvE players don’t want to do WvW to make a Legendary Weapon. That’s not their choice, It’s Anets choice. Period.
The first complaint is very valid. The second is simply expressing displeasure.
Anet rolled all the threads into this monster thread to hide their terrible job of selective communication, once again. WvW players are only responding to the PvE’rs expressed displeasure and not realizing that the loss of rewards earned in WvW is never a good thing for them.

Then your argument is that you must have ‘mastered’ all game modes to earn a legendary (when you can just buy one anyway), but at the same time you admit that finishing the track isn’t mastering WvW (the same way world completion isn’t indicative of mastering anything PvE related).
Please keep your non-arguments and bias to yourself.
As it remains, people who don’t care for it are now forced to play WvW, which is not only incredibly boring for them, it’s also detrimental to the WvW community with the people not willing or able to contribute anything being there and taking up spots. Unless of course population is so low that it doesn’t matter anyway and this is an attempt to artificially bolster those numbers on paper.
Sure, a legendary is supposed to show mastery of all content, but let’s face it, people don’t enjoy all types of content equally (no matter what ANet likes to believe). And there’s ways to get things without disrupting the game of people who actually enjoy the mode. You can get world completion and run by events leaving PvE players alone, you can go onto custom PvP servers to easily get dailies and finish reward tracks to get the PvP components without disrupting proper sPvP players. You could do EotM or just some WvW dailies and get a few Badges here and there and eventually buy the Gift. Now you have to actively clog up your server’s spots to semi-afk in order to gain some ticks.

You’re right, it is not. I had to do map completion which took me weeks since I am limited on the amount of time I have to play the game. I had to run dungeons for dungeon tokens as well, more hours spent in PvE land. You’re complaining about having to spend what? 5-6 hours in WvW?? Get outta here with that nonsense. They even made it to where PvE players don’t need WvW map completion to get their legendary anymore to accommodate the ever-crying care bear PvE population.
My point is, it wasn’t easy for us WvW players to get our legendaries if we wanted them, we have to get out of our element to get them, you should too. Its still not even close to being a fair amount of time spent in WvW compared to PvE.

I once supported Tracks in PvE as well, but thinking about it more, it can’t work givin the current system.
If it was implement just now, people will just farm mobs like they did for the mastery tracks, or go to the quickest area with a lot of events, and run around tagging as many as they could for the xp.
Unlocking it after masteries doesnt work, because more masteries are planned with content release.
They could try doing it how its done in WvW. But again, I can sit in a starter zone where events happen pretty regularly, and easily get a track done with minimal effort.
So, it just doesnt work, and PvE is already rewarding enough compared to the other 2 modes

Whether or not ANet handled the switch properly or not is entirely separate issue than one being discussed in this thread. FYI: I don’t think they handled it right and should have had the vendor still sell Gifts of Battle for BoH for at least 4 more weeks.

Whether or not ANet handled the switch properly or not is entirely separate issue than one being discussed in this thread. FYI: I don’t think they handled it right and should have had the vendor still sell Gifts of Battle for BoH for at least 4 more weeks.
Yes, it may eventually be correct. The reason this thread is here though is to eliminate the need for playing WvW to get the Gift of Battle. That is partly desired because of how this was poorly communicated. I think we should be required to play some WvW for one Legendary component. If I want more, I will play WvW more.
They should temporarily replace the vendor and eliminate part of what is driving this threads discussion.

They already have earned all the badges it takes to get the gift of battle… but then they changed it before they could actually get it from the vendor. If they had gotten it before the change they would not be having to be there are all to earn it again.
They are making those who already earned all the badges to get the gift of battle and were working on the other things needed for their legendary because they knew they could just go pick that up when they needed it, have to earn it all over again. Those who already went to the vendor before the change don’t have to worry about that now.

If you went to earn the badges specifically to get the gift of battle, why not get it WHEN you finished getting them? It sounds to me like you weren’t done getting them and were partially there. Or didn’t check the NPC before farming the badges then realized you failed at life.
Either way, not ANETs fault. Read patch notes more often, there is always important stuff there.

Seriously, if you are collecting components to make a Legendary Weapon, are you going to fill your storage with Gifts of Battle when you can buy them anytime? No.
They never even said when WvW was going to leave Beta, even if you did somehow catch the initial comment in the massive patch note’s walls of text.
If you think about it, nobody should support the elimination of WvW rewards hidden in selective communication.

Most people I know didn’t bother getting them at the time because that would take up another bank space and just get it when they need it. EVEN players who have made multiple Legendaries already and play WvW every day..
THIS is the problem when devs take things away unnecessarily. IF they focused on adding more content instead of punishing players by taking away what they already earned, they would improve the game rather than make people angry and reduce player satisfaction. There was no reason what so ever for them to do that. They took away everything guilds earned and made it impossible for many small guilds to earn them back when they changed the guild upgrade system as well.
Many players have a ton of badges just sitting there and hold on to them until they manage to ever get to the point of making a legendary, not that they haven’t earned enough.

No, players should not be expected to read patch notes for a game. Most games do not go around taking things away all the time for no reason, so most players would not think they have to. This is Anets fault for taking things away unnecessarily to begin with. Again back to the basics of any update. If it does not :
1) Increase game population
2)increase player satisfaction
3)Increase game longevity
it does not need to be added to the game. That is the problem with the updates they are doing. Whoever at Anet is going " why don’t we take this out and do this with it instead" IS the problem here. ANET DEV DOING THAT YOU KNOW WHO YOU ARE. YES WE ARE TALKING TO YOU. They are not using the guidelines above and are decreasing payer satisfaction, thus game longevity by their actions.
No one is going to buy Guild Wars2 just because they changed the gift of battle vendor, but players becoming dissatisfied with GW2 due to it and downgrading their view of the game over time decreasing their longevity to keep playing will increase by making them reearn what they already had will increase instead .
This is all on Anet, if they want people to keep playing their game instead of just adding on more and more negative until it gets to the point of being that one thing, that last straw that makes them say ," Never mind I would rather play something I am having fun playing instead." They will stop doing this nonsense and start making sure they ask themselves the questions above before doing anything.
They were not even “a dding a new reward track” they took something players already earned and were forcing them to earn it again. They didn’t actually give them new content. Wouldn’t if have been nicer if they had given us new WvW skins/ weapons in a reward track instead, ACTUAL new content instead of just giving us what we already had , but making it worse?

Basically, to make you understand the work we’ve put in and the way we feel cheated:
I spent weeks doing WvW, and for this I received Badges of Honor. Now instead of converting this currency that takes up 0 space, into the actual Gifts that take up space in Inventory/Bank, I foolishly waited and assumed that (just like the past 3+ years) I would be able to pick up the Gift(s) I needed WHEN I needed it/them. Because of the changes in this patch, all my hard work was nullified.
You did World Completion. You received 2 Gifts of Exploration. Now imagine how you would feel if those Gifts of Exploration were made unusable because you did not convert them into a Gift of Mastery before the last patch? And now you have to do a WvW Reward track to get a “Gift of Mapping” instead. Would you feel that’s fair? Would you feel it’s ok that all your painstaking mapping is all of a sudden “for nothing”, because you missed a 1 sentence long sidenote in a 40 page long wall of text? Cleverly disguised in a section you skim past since the “PvE stuff doesn’t interest you anyway”?
This is why we are upset. We are not upset that we have to do WvW for the Gift of Battle, we’re upset because we already did the work and now have to do it AGAIN.

I am a PvP nerd that doesn’t want to go to PvE, that is how it SHOULD be. In GW1, the thing that set it apart from most games at the time was you could go to PvP without ever having to step foot in PvE. You could start out with a max level Toon and earn everything you needed for PvP just by playing PvP. PvE players could earn everything they needed for PvE in PvE.
That was one of the things players liked about GW1, and Anet received tons of praise in the gaming community for that very thing. Why screw over that base now instead of let players play how they enjoy playing? But Oh yea.. those guys from Anet that started it all are gone and now we have these other guys that do not seem to understand that was Guild wars thing that made them stand out from the rest at the time. I would have never continued to play GW1 if they had made me PvE grind. I would rather there be no NPC’s in the game at all.
