Gliding - Everywhere - but not WvW
No please, gliding has no place in wvw, and hopefully never will.
Autoloot definitely needs to be turned on for wvw, no idea why its off.

But gliding?
I mean, I am quite sure that you could glide from overlook INTO veloka and ogrewatch. Maybe from the top of valley into bravost, from the Treb-column into quentin and outer-valley, from the SN-hill into outer-lowlands, from the low-lands-vista into aldons, from the lab to rampart …
Ok, some ballista could make up for an anti-air defense, but it would be a massive change of WvW-mechanics, are you sure that it will be a good one?
Gliding is about to be everywhere, it will become something everyone takes for granted. Whole combats will change – the priest of grenth throws us all in the air….we glide down again and don’t outright die.
Gliding is about to move from being an interesting option to being part of the core character’s movement about the world and even in combat. That’s a huge step and we need to have WvW as being a part of it.
New maps would be a little more fun with gliding.
I used to be a PvE player like you, then I played Guild Wars 2

Leave it in pve where it belongs then, it has no place in a competitive mode. If you cant understand why it would be bad to allow people to FLY in wvw…then I dont know what to tell you.

Speak for yourself.
If there is one thing these new kitten Desert border maps desperately need, its gliding. Implement it there and there alone and the constantly queued EB would suddenly become a deserted wasteland.

WvW is pve – or at least is supposed to share the same systems. We are not Spvp, we do not use Spvp armour and amulets. We are supposed to walk into the gates and our characters will behave exactly as they do on a pve map.
If you want to stop people gliding into keeps, then give the guards the ability to shoot down flying targets – mobs in maguuma already have that in some places and it wouldn’t be hard to implement.
Also, if we go with your reasoning, then Mesmer portals just wouldn’t work in WvW, but they do and yes, whole armies can go from outside stonemist to the inner area with portals. But that’s ok apparently.

A skill from one profession, is not the same as everyone having the same ability, by your reasoning it would be like giving every profession access to portals. Do you think thats healthy for wvw?

All you need is one Mesmer in a group and everyone may as well have that ability, because they are all going through that portal. Regardless, with the current state of WvW, yes, I`d actually be quite happy for there to be air-drops, with gliders all over the place. The combat would be interesting, there would be new tactics and things would be incredibly lively and fun.
I`d also have a heck of a lot of fun shooting down people coming in on gliders, or fighting to establish beachheads in enemy areas.
It would be glorious warfare of the highest order, but feel free to go P-V-door for another three years of no change if you want.

A mesmer also needs to get inside somehow first before being able to portal, allowing everyone the ability to just fly into something is beyond ridiculous

So does anyone know what those spinning things above towers do? In a way we may get gliding as it actually looks like something that would stop players from gliding into towers by pushing them away if they tried to glide in. I don’t really see a need for gliding as it will just make people run, jump off some edge and glide away from fights.
ss of what I’m talking about. I dunno what they even do besides spin around though.. then again we have balis on gate doors that only seem to be for show

That’s guild upgrades, the one spinning is the Watch-balloon while the ballistas are the auto-turret guild upgrade.

Ahh ok thanks. I’m mainly in a big casual guild and others take care of the upgrades so I didn’t even poke around to see if that’s where they came from. I just saw these for the a while now and never really thought to ask about it until someone brought up gliding..

You are right, whenever I see a possible starting place, I want to start gliding and if end of January WvW will be the only place, where you land on your nose instead of in the air, it will be another nail in the coffin of WvW.
I would be okay with this as long as it reduces your armor to that of an ambient creature while in the air.

People were saying something similar 2 years ago about needing a new borderland. We got that and look what happened…. It will be more fun people said…. It would break zerging people said…

WvW is based on walking millions of kilometers by foot…it is one of the innovations of ANet in the MMO world.
If PvE can be combed for every sensitive “no fly zone spot” across all its maps, JPs, dungeons etc., how about the same for even just one map like the DBLs? Devs liberally applying “NFZs” to places they see as sensitive / compromising map design, great. The ones that get ignored / forgotten would probably be revealed on the forums within a day or going live anyhow. If as we suspect, the DBLs were first designed with gliding in mind, maybe some amount of thinking has already gone into the topic, I can’t say.
More advanced / brainstormy stuff about AA siege, AA NPCs, AA mechanics of ground players applying ranged pressure to flying players would all be off in the vague future, much like any other changes that the community seems to cry out for (stabo, banner changes, reward tracks, backpiece, you name it…)
Exactly broken – pve will have no fly zones. Wvw can have those as well at every tower/ keep…….

I’m with you and this one.. You can’t attack why gliding so why would people even ask for it when most people want to fight other players. Gliding is just another tool to get away from fighting lol
Don’t know why you guys bother asking, I mean how long do you actual think it would take them to implement this change into wvw? it’s not just a flip of the switch, they have to go through every single structure on every map and make sure players can’t fly into them.
Already takes them over a year to make 1 map, the overhaul which they are busy with, is going to take them like close to 2 years to complete when it’s said and done. Enjoy gliding in 2 years?
Sheesh.

adding siege, and perhaps even automated turrets that could shoot people out if their gliders so they fall to their deaths would be needed. but with those gliders would be excellent.
maybe then we could finally get air ships and a bigger EotM. doubt it, but I can dream.

I think they should bring gliding to WvWvW. As stated, they can add NFZ where absolutly necessary, plus the interview about the new Shatterer event talks about electrical attacs around the Shatterer, targeting chars in gliding mode. So with the possibility to make NFZs, NSCs shooting down flyers, potential for a very electrifying guild upgrade around a structure, and the possibillity to attack flyers with siege and personall ranged skills I think it wouldn’t be modebreaking. Hm, except that stealth gliding maybe, but there should be solutions too. By the way, other games with gliding, pvp and structures show that it can work
Autoloot in WvW ASAP! (i.e. yesterday, was really a bad mistake to not include it in HoT)

I don’t understand the reasoning behind suggesting they should not add it becaude you could in theory glide into a tower. do you think anet would just click and button and turn on gliding. THey will if they ever add gliding to wvw make adjustments to the maps or no fly zones just like they are for all vanilla maps to keep the integrity. I am for gliding but hopefully gliding in WvW will have adjustments to it to be fun and fair in wvw

Well the revamped Shatterer world boss in PVE will indeed have people attacking from their gliders, with players literally going on “bombing runs” while flying over it. So I doubt it would take that much to implement a new set of skills which become available only when gliding, much like underwater combat. Hell, I just about guarantee we’ll eventually see flying combat in this game… particularly if ANET figures they can make a buck for it.

hehe you are probably right.. Over a year ago I said this
Since we on the pvp topic in wvw forum, why not add hammers to each keep that can shoot lasers at players attacking any of our towers… haha just kidding.. don’t do it anet
and we got the Oasis event in the new BL’s.. Sorry guys but I will take full blame for that event due to my sarcastic remark. I didn’t think they’d actually do it

im ok with gliding in wvw as long as we can pew them from the sky, and combat makes them fall to their death :D
“No plans at this time” per Guild Chat re gliding so nevermind!
They said the exact same thing about gliding in PVE (“it would break the map !”). Just something to keep in mind. :-)
All we wanted was a GvG.
Like I suggested elsewhere, only have gliding in BLS to prevent any disruptions in EB
Nothing is lost from allowing gliding (with restrictions) in the borderlands and letting non-HoT glide there too. Unless your concern is that people actually will avoid the borderlands as a result, but I don’t see how that changes anything.
Although if only HoT users could glide, I could see a reason to not allow it.
Also EOTM gliding plox.
for there you have been and there you will long to return.

Imo there is a ton of other more important things that need to be addressed and fixed first before gliding comes to mind. I would really get kittened off if A-Net decide to add gliding in the middle of this. First fix what they broke, in a way that the wvw community want it to be fixed, then when this is up and working, we can move ot other things.
Druids can already get into Anz and DBL “Hills” inner without gliding.
How long did Anet take to fix mesmer’s gate exploit?
I don’t think gliding would either be completely exploit free.
I also don’t think it will be as strategic as some people think.
They already have the Anti-Gliding walls developed, you’ll see them in core Tyria come Tuesday.
The work is done, just not transferred to WvW

Yea good idea let players fly over the wall directly to Lordroom.
Yea good idea let players fly over the wall directly to Lordroom.
Is this really a problem? 30 secs to crush the door or a minute to find a high enough position to glide into isn’t really a difference.
But to make it a bit more balanced for the defender (should there be one):
Any hit by a player or NPC either damages (if so far undamaged) or destroys (if damaged) the glider additional to the normal damage on the player. A damaged glider has half forward speed and double high-loss, but a damage-free landing, a destroyed glider produces also fall-damage. A ballista hit always destroys the glider. A damaged or destroyed glider can be repaired at the usual Repair-NPC.
During gliding no skills can be used.
(edited by Dayra.7405)
You guys don’t get it. Anet has devised invisible walls you can’t pass through already.
It was in the last Guild Chat.
If we bug them enough they can solve their Druid and Guardian leap problem AND give us cheat-proof gliding.. At teh same time

Death from above!
but would be a logistical nightmare with current maps, especially with people just gliding into towers. would give ballistas and rangers new value, but the maps would have to adapt. plus we’d need to cast while gliding. – then my grenade engineer would be greatly feared.
btw, if you do that, I want a batman glider ..so all they see is a black shadow when i hover over them and nuke them! then you can put a power supply inside the structure, for that mesmer that wants to take down the electrical dome that prevents enemies from simply gliding in.
maybe the gliding can be easily addressed with an assuran electrical dome that prevents others from gliding in, better than rebuilding the maps, and we need our old borders back. great work, thanks!

No, the gliding people do not have a 1-skill
So it will reduce server-load if we always have some skill-less people in the air.
