We reached this kind of impasse when they decided to eliminate weekly match threads.
I’d hate for them to get utterly tired of the vitriol and remove any form of communication whatsoever.
What communication? There is effectively none. What anet probably fail to realise is that the lack of communication and transparency in large part drives the dissatisfaction.
you can be pretty sure this forum is read, even if there’s no response.
Yeah that doesn’t really count as communication. They need to do more than pop in from time to time saying nothing more than what basically boils down to “shut up WvW’ers”
If every time you and I communicated, I punched you in the nose, how would you adjust your dialogue with me?
I agree, there needs to be better communication, but after a certain point and effort, it becomes masochism. How would you do it?
You know message boards for games, particularly pvp-related forums. They’re always trash — there’s stories being written out there how the level of anger, particularly from gamers, is out of control. (Here’s an example: http://www.theguardian.com/technology/gamesblog/2013/jul/29/twitter-culture-gamer-rage)

If you spent years trying to have a relevant discussion only to be constantly ignored, told to shut up, or told your entire play style doesn’t matter how friendly would you remain when you are still being ignored?
Look through the responses when we actually get a red name on the forum that isn’t just locking threads or telling us to shut up. The responses are overwhelmingly supportive and grateful. All they have to do is stop in here and actually have a discussion and the negativity would drop drastically.
No desire to play this game anymore.

I’ve played GW2 since beta. I TOTALLY get your frustration.
But during that time I’ve also witnessed various WvW devs dip a toe into the WvW forum, only to get their heads bitten off by one group or another. It’s that old adage, “you can’t please everyone” and typically you are screwed if you even try — because deadlines aren’t met, updates don’t go as expected, they nerf a class because of forum outcry only to have more outcry. I’ve watched these devs dip into the WvW forum, try to have active discussions with us, only to be basically screamed at constantly because .. you can’t please everyone. There was a period in time where we were getting red names in here all the time — then little by little that slowed down, then stopped.
If you can come up with a solution on how communications could be handled here, I’m sure you’d be lauded. But having witnessed how it typically happens — it always devolves into a screaming mess.
And really, would you like to deal with that every day as your job if you didn’t have to? Honestly if you could come up with a viable way to openly communicate and not be abused, I’d love to hear it. No forum that’s pvp-related has been able to do it that I’ve seen.
Perhaps Sartre was right — Hell is other people.
I’ve also been here since the betas and the majority of what I’ve seen is that most posters are civil as long as the dev’s aren’t dismissive and show they really want to have a dialogue.
If they only come in here to say things like don’t bump old threads or you’ll get infracted, people will understandably be kittened off.

I just remember poor Habib trying to talk with the community and getting stomped, lol .. and then run screaming away from us. I miss Habib, he was a nice man. He tried.
Seriously though dear, can you come up with a way to control the abuse without having to employ 15 web guys to delete and infract 24/7? Cos they eliminated the match threads because they were too much work to keep up with all the “reports” …
The good news is people are passionate about WvW. But that’s kind of the bad news too — it often leads to lack of objectivity (I’m guilty of it, too).

Well one thing’s for sure, completely cutting off communication (like they’ve done) isn’t fixing anything. Throwing up a broken, kittenty event like this and then completely ignoring over a thousand valid complaints is the worst thing they could have done. Look through the responses and see how many people that were on the fence about buying the expansion have now decided against it because of the way anet has handled this.
They should really make Gaile the head of all communications. I like Gaile. I respect Gaile.

Shush you. I adore Gaile. Don’t make me thwap you.
I hope the powers at be have realized that WvW is not EOTM and as such attracts a completely different kind of player. Where a wvw player runs into a fight, an EOTM player runs away from it due to loss of karma. This sort of toxic melding of game modes because of the golem event brought those EOTM players into wvw.
Though it was fun 5v1ing and downing a couple enemies in the fight because 4 of the enemies had no idea how their class played outside of pve.
Where a wvw player runs into a fight, an EOTM player runs away from it due to loss of karma.
That’s a huge generalisation.
A lot of WvW players only karma train, some others are only interested in the objectives and strategy and so on.
Not everyone is there, primarily, to PVP, by any means.
About the only place you can assume people are there to PVP, is in PVP itself and even then, they may well just be win trading.
Though it was fun 5v1ing and downing a couple enemies in the fight because 4 of the enemies had no idea how their class played outside of pve.
Sure they weren’t uplevels?
I’m doing EOTM ATM, as it seems to award more, financially speaking and I feel like a bully, half the time.
Even though I’m only running with the zerg and helping out in fights, when we run into one.
Unlike some people, who are chasing the tail on their 80 Mesmers (formerly thieves, naturally) and intentionally ganking all the uplevels and then stealthing away. :/

welp, said uplevels should realize that WvW is normally a totally different ballgame. I’m a wvw player, I don’t care what i’m up against if i think i can beat it i’m going to try. At least two of the enemies i ran into in that 5v1 were up levels, yes, but even the level 80’s had no clue what to do in a player vs player scenario. Sure the whole ktrain thing is a generalization, but ask people to fight the enemy zerg in map chat yourself and let me know if you find different results.
I do recall playing EOTM for a while and found it so very boring yet people seem to like it.
This is not my cup of tea. I think I was bored of it after half a day. A week is way too long. I think I piloted a Golem in the event. The reast of the time I did run with them it was as a toon trying to find fights.
None to be had. I had a few promising ones where there 4 or 5 a side and things going well than all of a sudden Bam dead. A golem would show and send in its rockets or someone with the exploit would fire from afar.
It hard to get motivated. I went in a bit tonight and the BLS are pretty empty. The emptiest I have seen in a LONG time. Little to no map chat.
This thread now has many, many more posts than the whole WvW borderlands stress test sub forum. It is also only about 2k views short of the whole sub forum.
One does wonder what the point of giving feedback to ArenaNET really is…..
I have no doubt this is the most current, viewed and posted on thread in the forums. Even with the threads popularity with the masses Anet still does nothing to respond.
How does a company that provides a product to customers bury their head so deep in the sand?
Wow…gg Anet…G kittenING G! That’s one of the most pathetic actions I’ve ever experienced in 14 years of mmos from a dev team…
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/wuv/Dev-Paperchase/first#post5312693
He’s not a dev hon. He’s forum/web only.
Yeah. This makes it much better. The first red tag thingy post and it’s somewhat pathetic. Let other guys talk to us but don’t even bother to take care. I understand it when our forum specialist can’t do anything about it but Mark could do a little bit more than “kitten you! Leave us alone!”.

It’s ok to be frustrated by the past week. I was. I found it annoying and shared my pov here many times this past week. But at the end of the day, it is their company, they can do what they want — and if being angry and yelling isn’t getting anywhere with the devs, maybe it’s time to try another approach? Just suggestin’.
xox
If I would treat my customers like this, my boss would kick my balls and fire me…but hey! We reached 1k posts without any official response! Someone will grab some beer at reset and gank all those zerglings with his roaming squad to celebrate this fact.
What communication? There is effectively none. What anet probably fail to realise is that the lack of communication and transparency in large part drives the dissatisfaction.
What are you on about?! They have repeatedly said one of the following!
1) We cannot talk about it
or
2) Soon™
What do you mean no communication?!

Bit sad that the only post this week is a mod telling people not to post in the wrong section.
You can’t deny though that a majority of commenters on this forum really dislike it.
I think the event is boring since there is rarely any fights but you can’t say just use the forums and judge it on that seeing as there are tons of people running around in golems..
If the majority of people in wvw hated it you wouldn’t be seeing golems still running around. Now people can go on and say those are all PVE’ers running around in golems, and most may be, but if they are having fun I’m sure they will come back even after the event.
I’ve seen lots of new faces actually asking questions about what builds they should be running around with which makes me think they will be here after this event is over.
I didn’t say ‘use the forums to judge it’ , I said that a majority of posters seem to strongly dislike it.
And I completely disagree about the bringing in new people.
Most will probably either get bored or die very quickly in a normal WvW week if their only experience is running around in a golem k-train.If you want to get new blood in you need to do something that enhances actual WvW (e.g. better rewards), not a gimmick week that totally perverts normal playing conditions.
Correct you didn’t say that but in a way you are using the forums. I bet the majority of people that liked this event haven’t even come here to post about it.
You can disagree all you want about getting new players but if you accept the new players and show them that you can have fun without golems they will stick around.
I seen several people say pve’ers are the ones running around in golems, which might be true, but let them pve’ers have fun and like I pointed out if you show them fun after the event I’m sure they will stick around.. If you keep looking at them as just “pve’ers” well they sure won’t want to stick around.
Also I don’t mean you as you personally. Just I read other forums as well and the amount of people poking fun at pve’ers isn’t going to keep those pve’ers in wvw.
Farmers dont stick around after the farm has ended. If its being played as if it is a farm then its very likely that is how it is perceived by those doing it.
Main reason it is a farm event is because many have chosen not to defend or upgrade.
It took us a few days of this event for people to get bored and go back to defending and upgrading. We got a wp in our keep after a few days into this event but once people saw that wp, we got one in our keep everyday so far. Maybe its cause the other servers have just given up but we still are at least trying to defend and upgrade our side.
Most would rather k-train during this event and tbh when there are no fights you either k-train or not play.
How exactly do you defend against 50 people all in omegas or with golem exploit buff on? The gate goes down in about 5 seconds (10 if it’s reinforced and they are lazy golems), then you’re defending against 50 supercharge peeps with what exactly? Entire server camps in garri all day waiting for the golem rush? Siege disablers might work for the first rush if they all bunch up, but after that they will use spaced rush to trigger and you’ll only get maybe 10 disabled.
I can only conclude that the servers you’re playing against are dead, or just all so bored they took the week off.
As for someone else’s comment on loot- how would you pay for upgrades, weapons, armor, runes, sigils, food etc if there was no loot in wvw? Do pve?
A Net may have failed to axe this mistake but the players managed to come through. I have had two days of decent, even good, WvW thanks to a gentlemen’s agreement to just not use the kitten things.

You lucky kitten! My server decided to go wild and make love with their golems…and I probably have missed 200-300 ranks because I decided to not abuse something I hate.
Anyone else wondering if this was a ploy to make people appreciate regular WvW again?
I mean think about it, there is no way anyone is stupid enough to think this event was a good idea. Maybe they realized just how terrible and broken it would be and how happy we would be to have regular WvW back once it ended.
Now it will likely be awhile before anyone asks for them to pay attention to WvW again.

You want to say this happy grin of Josh while talking about the golem rush event on the last point of interest was in fact his diabolic grin? kitten ! You tricked me, Josh!
I don’t think it was a ploy just an honest well intentioned attempt that was horribly thought out. I am beyond being angry at this point and can leave it at “please don’t do that again”
on another note for all of us in here complaining there are just as many running around in golems taking advantage of it . maybe even more so. its the cost of attracting mainstream.
on the subject of “game community hate and vitriol” its not just pc and console gamers that are out of control. people are just being awful to each other worldwide. soccer stadiums filled with rioting fans trampling each other, basketball games that end up with mobs of people destroying blocks of city, civil unrest over events released in the news when the claims haven’t even been investigated and the trial hasn’t even happened yet. too many cases to talk about and going into specifics would just derail the thread. I think the current media that people have access to is part of the problem. there’s an average intelligence level – 50% of the population worldwide falls below it. media is so easy they can read react and they have a voice. add a little manipulation from the top of intelligence scale that has an agenda and you get media firestorms that translate into real life consequences. I think a good portion of humanity is emotionally driven knuckle draggers without the ability for rational thought . and then the moderately intelligent people get drawn into their crap because it starts to impact their lives and so they to must speak only adding to the “noise”
It is normally why I don’t even bother going into forums. I’d rather play the game and avoid the drama and the trolls and overall negativity. that being said even I had to come speak out against this event. before this post it has been 10 months since I posted anything and this is the most I’ve posted over the course of 2 years. literally this event broke the one reason I play gw2 to the point I am on the forums. when I am on the forum then I am not happy with the game and I am pretty easy to keep happy.

^This. I watched the forums for some time for new things coming along but I gave up and used the “official” WvW forum instead for some smack talk and drama. Normally I couldn’t care less about this forum but hey! I had nothing to do this week.
I am beyond being angry at this point and can leave it at “please don’t do that again”
You see that, their plan is working! Diabolical….
I’ll say by Monday, this thread will be on the 2nd page and everyone will have forgotten about this idiotic week.

No, people will stop posting about it because there will be no point to, but golem week will be remembered by wvw players for a long time..
WvW subforum can now go back to being pretty dead besides people complaining about thieves, mesmers and rangers again lol.

Those kitten thieves/mesmers/rangers!
I can see this as one of those “pretty good ideas, bad implementation, never again, GG WvW” kind of ideas. That being said, never rig the golems again.
WvW subforum can now go back to being pretty dead besides people complaining about thieves, mesmers and rangers again lol.
Mesmer OP for golems event though :P
I called this idea insane and bought myself another chacter slot to have something to do during the week – but turned out I had a lot of fun.
But I think that is because I have given up on defending anyway as it currently isn’t possible. And my server usually doesn’t have golems, so that was kind of new to them.
And hey, I won’t have to scream “GET ON THE CANNONS!” nexttime we’re overrun by a golem zerg ;)
I’m aware that people didn’t like the Golem event… but I did.
You never saw the Golems before because they were too slow and not worth the supply costs. I enjoyed piloting them and using them in a sense where they could change the tide of battle.
Of course, this could never be a permanent thing… but I had a ton of fun during this week. Maybe in the future, Golems will be at least half the speed they were this week.
So I maybe crazy, but the event was fun for me. But I am not blind, I might be that 1 out of 1000 guy.

Wot? …….You didn’t spend much time in WvW before the event did you?
“All Is Vain Golem Train!”
But, seriously, I enjoyed the golem fun and extra fast rank progression from the ktrain. It was a nice break from the ‘seriousness’ of WvW.
Can’t wait to get back to that seriousness though… so yay for reset!!

Herein lies one of the issues people have with the current state of WvW and events like this one.

This is by no means calling you out seabhac but from a purist point of view ranks shouldn’t be based or gained by gimmicks or boosts. They should be based on effort and not time or a grind. Effort by doing something rather than just following a train around or using the exploit.
Taking a step back it sort of demeans the whole rank and file structure – just like having ranks gained by boosts with EoTM map…just my personal opinion for what it is worth. I also noticed you said time to get back to seriousness so of course take what I say just as my opinion.

And that is another problem with the current K-Train atmosphere.
At one time if you were a gold rank, people assumed you spent most of your time playing in WvW helping out your server and generally playing WvW as a team player. Sure you probably k-trained a bit, but mostly just played WvW as IMO it was intended.
Now you could be platinum, and everyone just assumes you spend your time in EotM, or if you include this week, regular WvW with the buff. Honestly there is really no distinction anymore, and I don’t think that is a good thing!

Pretty much nailed it. Was called a noob by someone on my own server. Tried to explain to him that I been playing this game a long time and would rather people would not talk bad towards their own server players. Rank got thrown in somewhere and when I said my rank I was told “wow that is a lot of zerging and k-training”
Funny thing about the whole thing was it was an outnumbered fight. Person that said that to me died first so my question was who is the real noob? :P
Anet was able to remove the golem event & supercharged golem buffs without a patch. Looks like we got trolled pretty hardcore, knowing they could’ve removed all the bugs & exploits a week ago.

But on the good side they where able to remove it. I was worried there for a while.
I realy enjoyed this event!
Yes there were some nasty PvD parts in it, but even those I liked, due to there was a lot of time to find out good portal spots, so it never get boring at all.
I havent been at WvW some time, because you always saw kitten op pro guilds running on their own and sitting anywhere on map useless, only move to fight some other guild and say they do “GvG”, which I think should neither be done on regular WvW maps nor on primetime, when maps got queues.
So this event brought back some of the old WvW feeling, where you try to defend/attack a castle for serval hours trying to finally get in. (Ok, just the feeling, due to sadly only few ppl tried to defend and got the skill to do so, but when, it was awsome!)
I hope one day WvW get back to be played around teamplay and objectives, not killing and flaming others.
Please more of those events!!! (maybe a tournament,2 weeks event, repeat?!?)
I would like to know how many Badges of Honour got removed from the game due to this event. Maybe one reason to run it was to reduce this pile a bit ;-)
I think this event finally killed my server, since there is almost no-one around.
Not disabling glicko for this stupid event really screwed my server. After beating dh for so many weeks in a row they got a huge boost and we took a big hit since they went try hard for the week.
Now this week we ended up low rolling into t6 where we will need to crush the other servers to get some decent points to catch back up.
Just to re-iterate my ‘feedback’
1) Never again with these foolish events.
2) give attention to already implemented features in wvw, and sort them out first.
3) bugs/glitches – find them and destroy them.
4)asking people on this forum will result in glorious and succinct responses for changes, but you’ll have to mute the trolls ofc.
5) if you desperately wish to pander to people (reasonable business objective, tbh) who find wvw ‘boring’ and perhaps: ‘too hard wah wah wah lets furry rp instead’ then simply create a different area for their playpen, give them a bottle and put them to bed.
please save my beloved and lofty wvwvw, because its in danger of becoming extinct.
Thx.
I haven’t see one servermate build a golem since this event ended lol

I have, I laughed my kitten off as he got targeted and destroyed in under a minute.
