Q:
Gone for a year, what'd I miss?
A:
Some of the ones I can think of
- Culling is fixed
- WxP levels that allow players to do more damage with siege and get 2500 HP and 100 power/cond
- Ascended Weapons/Armor which must be crafted and are relatively expensive to do so (require a ton of high end mats as well as being time gated). They are better than exotics
- New EotM map which has been a distraction at best
- Ruins of Power were put in on BLs and water area removed. They aren’t really used for much aside from allowing a server to count stomps towards the score.
- Obsidian Sanctum was broken out of EB for GvG fights
- Siege can now be purchased on the TP. This includes master level siege such as Omega Golems… plenty of BIG golem rushes.
- Lots of class balance changes making some classes very strong while others remain weak
- The rise of conditions in smaller fights
- A lot of lag… probably more than when you left
- Due to some of the changes above, most keeps/towers even upgraded can be flipped in seconds by large groups.

Zero, April 15th has a few changes to WvW(Accountbound WxP), and sPvP is getting a full rewards overhaul(no new game modes in tourneys yet).
Unstable Shield, Unstable Light
So in an entire year? Well basically since the launch of the game, WvWvW is still just an unbalanced zergfest with the most populated server winning? Thats disappointing, maybe I’ll stick to ESO : /
WXP and the failure that has become. You’ve missed 2 poorly implemented world bosses. You’ve missed a couple fractals. You’ve missed a PvP map that is universally despised by everyone.
Other than that? Nothing comes to mind. Welcome back! God help you if you’re not a Warrior or Guardian.
You missed the amazing Ranger updates players have been asking for almost 2 years.
For WvW they added a new map called Edge of the Mists. It’s a gorgeous, multilevel playground with some crazy new mechanics like blowing up bridges and turning into mecha-scorpions or beams of light.
Teams are grouped across servers by your color that week. The score there does not affect the world score, but the winning team drops supplies in your borderlands Citadel after each 4 hour match. It also spawns overflow maps.
For WvW proper they changed the borderlands maps to remove most of the water areas and added Ruins with a Bloodlust mechanic, similar to the old orbs. It’s had a huge affect on scoring, top teams are now getting up to 35% of their score from points other than the tick every 15 minutes. They also added a proper queue system to WvW which shows how many players are in front of you and your position in queue.
Still see lots of large scale battles on the highest populated servers, more roaming and smaller scale battles on the lower tiers. Most servers have queues on reset with things thinning out as the week goes on.

EotM is where disorganized PvE players go and play so they don’t affect their home server too negatively.

Oh yeah, you see a little bit of everything in there. From roaming to karma trains to guilds conducting training session – it’s the wild wild west of WvW. I’m surprised at the amount of guild/server recruiting that happens there.

Seems accurate
Roamer and Troll
GoM→NSP→AR→NSP→GoM
WEXP happend during the last year.
Removal of culling is only slightly more than a year in WvW, less than a year in PvE
A lot of not WvW Living story.
Ascended items are new PvE-curse in WvW.
(incl. Legendaries which are now better than exotic)
and as said above the new EdgeofTheMist Pvp-Farming map.
Edit: and yeah I forgot, ruins in the Bl-lakes that may give your server score for stomping (but not for kills)

And ESO is any better? I like the PvE of ESO, but Cyrodiil left much to be desired.
You missed EoTM, and more guilds stacking the top 2 tiers, and population decrease among the whole player base. That is about all. T3 down, you can avoid the zergfest of t1.
WXP and EoTM and PPT
Dont forget that mentioning any hacks, glitches, bugs, or how to improve the game results in you being infracted, even banned. Yes anet are the proverbial ostrich with it’s head in the sand.
basically, you missed a lot….
Archeage = Farmville with PK
You missed Scarlet; I envy you that.
PS: You can view what she did for the game by porting into LA. ANet seems to enjoy messing with the game and calling it “content”.
So all in all it seems a majority of the people are pretty let down.
Yea because a thread with less than 20 posts from less than 15 different people representing less than 1% of the people who frequent this forum who themselves represent less than 10% of the people playing this game are totally the majority……
Well, feel free to enlighten me Deli, I am looking for a reason to play.

If you like the game play it. If you don’t like it then don’t play it.
^More reasons not to like it than to like it, because what has been said here is true: all changes to WvW have been marginal.

No but we get new masteries every 3-4 months that’s pretty exciting, isn’kitten Oh and we also get the occasional living story event or two in WvW, as well. That’s what the WvW community wants: more PvE in their PvP.

Nothing much, no significant game changes. It is the same old guild wars 2 with just a bit of new dungeons, items, convenience and balances.

He asked about the new stuff within that year. How can one be not let down by that?
Here’s what happened since you were gone:

I am with a couple of the other posters here……since you already own the game, jump into it and play it for a month or two to see if you enjoy it. If not, lots of other mmos out there.
Best of luck!
Mmo players with a screw loose vs mmo players with two screws loose. All very important stuff.
-Zenleto-
Guard Leech was renamed Applied Strength.
The Quaggans are gone.
That’s it for the important ones.
~ There is no balance team. ~

Well, if you think about it, that’s actually a legit response. <cough>
Well, feel free to enlighten me Deli, I am looking for a reason to play.
Hey delta, enlighten me on the actual reason people should play RvR in ESO? What is the purpose of winning? Really? There isn’t one. Campaigns last 90 days, with nothing to look forward to at the end.
Their are no bragging rights, since you can change campaigns every 24 hours. Can even change sides.
So, what is the point? Their is no incentive to win or lose.
WvW, it is pretty spelled out. It is a competition against servers, with results posted for all to see.
That sounds an awful lot better than servers doing less than ethical things in order to win, or people getting upset because things outside their control (server population, morale) are causing them to lose.
I’d say removing the server-wide rewards from WvW might be a good thing. It would mean the rewards for participating at that moment would be the reason to play, not any overarching reward or title or bragging right.
