What do you think in doing a ranking for all the guild of the server ?

For exemple if a guild take a tower they earn 5 points , if a guild member kill one guy +1 point . And at the end of the week you can see the guild wich was the best of the server !

When your server is loosing against big zergs, and you can t do anything … this can be a little challenge " being the best guild of the week "

I hope dev will read and love this idea !

This is what I think would happen.

1. unless it had a reward it would be ignored
2. guilds members would become hostile towards other guilds and pugs
3. large guilds would try to cannibalize smaller guilds and attempt to claim entire servers.
4. After awhile it would always be the same guilds at the top each week.

So all in all I’m not a fan of the idea.

1) It can’t be “ignored” as it’d be every day actions in WvW. If they did a reward, maybe do 5g to the 1st place gold (1g per to the top 5 contributors of the guild,) 3g to second place (1g per top 3) etc..
2) It’d never become a server issue, it’s just a fun friendly challenge between guilds. I guess you’re in a kitten guild if you’re scared of it.
3) Guild sizes won’t change whatsoever, unless it’s big zerging guilds that’ll shift in power. And that always happens.
4) It’d never be the same guilds, because of all of the above.^

Overall, I’m a fan of the idea. Large zerging guilds may not be cuz they’re kitten. GLHF dodging all possibilities of making WvW more fun though breh.

So if a group is 10 guild and 10 from other various guilds – the credit for taking a tower prorated? How do you prorate contribution properly? How do you credit guards and scouts versus peeps at the crafting area or AFK?

You don’t, so any metric measuring this has flaws to make it meaningless. Every server already knows their mvps….

How do you balance a 500 man guild versus a 10? You can’t so all this would mean is the biggest zerg guild wins. So have guild leaders from the same server get together and decide who already won. Have to agree with above, move this to the SPvP teams I believe that was more their intent for GvG and giving people a way to rank them.

Why would you be the best guild, cause you capped x-amount of towers that week. Nobody really cares about that? Nonetheless, rankings are toxic anyways, brings the worst out of people.

Not a horrible idea, not a fan of the reward idea. But rank guilds based on objectives taken, objectives defended and most kills would certainly be interesting. If nothing else, it would create an simple leaderboard. It would cause competition without a doubt, people claim it will have no effect but to be frank, when was the last time any of you played in a competitive team sport/game/event and did not strive to get best possible rank. Even if the goal is just “not at the bottom” or “above guild X” then sure, it is enough.

Matter of fact, if you give individuals or groups a “value” based upon ranking or accumulated rewards, others will instinctively fight on to surpass them.

The main question that comes to mind is how would credit be awarded?

If you’re in a zerg of 30 people, 15 from one guild, 10 from another and 5 from 5 different guilds how would credit be worked out? Does it all go to the guild with the most people? Do a fixed number of points get divided between them based on the number of members? Or their participation?

I think the simplest way to do it would be like guild influence – award points to each guild based on what their members do, regardless of how many other people complete the same activity at the same time. (So in the example above the first guild gets 15 points, the second gets 10 and the other 5 get 1 point each.)

1) You mean they can’t be avoided. Like you can’t avoid getting some achievement points while playing. You can still ignore the leaderboards and how many points you have, and until they added rewards that’s what many people actually did.

2) Your reply is a perfect illustration of Dreadforce’s point.

3) If, as you claim, everyone would care about the rankings (or at least find them unavoidable) then guilds are going to want as many points as they can get and the easiest way to get more points would be to have more people playing. It’s quicker and easier to persuade existing players to leave their guild and join yours, than to try and find new players who have never been to WvW and teach them how to play. But that means their old guild loses a member, and over time will probably lose more to the higher ranked guilds.

4) See point 3. Just like we currently see with servers players will want to stack the higher ranked guilds, and that increases their advantage and makes it less and less likely that anyone below them will be able to compete. So sooner or later the rankings stagnate and we’d have the same discussions we get now about how to shake up server rankings and help lower ranked ones, but with the word server replaced with guild.

i think any progression tracking should happen through completed objectives done by player then that player (if representing a guild) adds to a pool of stats caused by said guild.

This way, a highly efficient group of 10 players in one guild can outperform a guild harboring 300 players. I am not going to claim such a feat will be easy or in the slightest maintainable, but it is possible.

it would also cause a lot of roaming/havoc guilds to appear. There is already trackers for how many camps, keeps, stonemists, towers, sentries and yaks being defeated and keeps/stonemist even have trackers on how many times defended. These trackers are currently being used in the hopeless WvW achievements, but they should quite easily be rerouted through a secondary filter who checks "X number of kills was done by player Y, Did player Y represent guild? If Yes, which guild? Player Y was Representing Guild “Insert name here” during this event.

There is such a tracker already, as all events done while representing adds influence to the represented guild. So the mechanics for putting these statistics onto a leaderboard is there, they just need to be condensed and then re-compiled in a user-friendly format.

I for once, can see such a thing liven up WvW. Even PvE Heroes and fairwetherers can make a name for themselves even in bottom tier by just running havoc alone.

I dont believe ranking guilds is a good idea.

You need to set a standard for starters, because different guilds are good at different things. Some guilds go battle 20v50, and that’s their thing. Some guilds bunker down in the borderlands and siege everything to hell, and they’re much, much better at doing that than the guilds who fight 20v50, so which guild is “better” in a ranking?

i dont see this being a very good idea, but I’m open to see what other people think

This is why rankings must include Kills, Objectives Captured AND Objectives Defended. If not the leaderboards will be totally skewered.

I did’nt know that we are raiding with 90. But thanks for reminding me.

Other than that: pls no, in any game with guild rankins the “kitten-race” on the factions/servers were toxic. So leave it out of the game. Push more the Serverbenefits if people work together.

No it would be a terrible idea for everyone who hates zerging.

I have been running in small scale since 2012, always with a guild that had the same mindset and with people who enjoy challenges in the form of fighting outnumbered, ninjaing structures, roaming etc

A reward system based on ‘this guild captured x, killed y etc’ would have everyone who doesn’t like to be running in a guild larger than 20 at a disadvantage, and zerging is stimulated A LOT already in this game.

If one, they should stimulate people who oppose zerging. This idea would bring about the exact opposite and would destroy the small scale element of WvW, especially if they rewarded blobs/zergs even more.

Yeah… can somebody help this guy out, please? I’m afraid he’s stumbled into the “WvW Forums” by accident; we need to direct him back to… whatever part of the game it is that’s “fun” and “friendly”. “Fractals” maybe? Is that still a thing?
