Do i understand this correct:
-you can buy a Scroll that gives you a random hero challenge completed (1 hero point) -you need those hero points to unlock new traits
-pve player can just gather hero points by map completion but wvw players are not allowed to be prepared (the scroll will get added and wasnt known, so hoarding wasnt actually a preparation)?
->dont wvw players have a disadvantage compared to pve players this way? Please equal it out and delete all pve players hero points so they are not more prepared then i am???

The hero points in pve need to be acquired by going to each one and doing w/e taks is associated with them, with this new feature wvw’ers will essentially be able to buy hero points with badges so no having to leave wvw or grind pve to get enough hero points to unlock elite specs. There is also nothing stopping wvw’ers from stocking up hero points in pve maps.

I say what needs to be said, get used to it.

The immediate use is pretty short sighted by anet I think. What if you are a scout that is defending an objective and get the daily from it. Now you cant use the reward because you are scouting/defending.
Yet again, anet is penalizing strategic play and the players who get no reward from doing the "dirty jobs* (jobs few want to do) for their server.

Did you not read the part about when we unlock a point a HP in PvE will become locked/completed for us ? No we won’t be able to double up or stock pile points from PvE.

Most people arent scouting, a map usually has a couple scouts if that on it, most people are running with a group. The boosts are better imo and give a better use. The tiny wxp boosts you get now for doing dailies barely get you more then 1k wxp per day. A 20min boost can easily surpass that. And this is to encourage people to stay in wvw and not just leave after dailies are done, its also supposed to be active in other game modes so that’s a plus. Im just not sure if I like it being automatic, but the change is much better, instead of just popping consumables for extra wxp, better to actually earn it by doing stuff.

I dont think you understood my post, when was anyone supposed to be able to get a hp twice? This change allows wvw’ers to get un-acquired pve hp’s with badges, basically instead of going to every pve map for each hp, you can just buy each one. If you want to stock up on hero points in pve, you can do so, so you buy less when the change is live.

I earn about 3 ranks a day from the time I play in WvW so that’s 3 HP a day. I estimate that for the 5 specializations that I want to play I definitely need over 600 HP. So that means it would take me about 7 months at the very least to get all the specializations that I want……

Well I guess I’m going to have to farm HP in PvE cuz there is no way in hell that I’m going to wait over 7 months untill I can get all the specializations that I want especially cuz the number 1 reason I bought the xpac was to get these elite specializations and I ain’t settling down for reason 2, 3, 4, etc. TY Anet >_>

It would be awesome if this was retroactive. I know they said they do not want us to stockpile…but PvEers are already stockpiling HPs mapping anyways. It’s not like they can take those away. Would it be so hard to give 1 scroll for each wvw rank you have? It still requires you have the necessary badges of honor and those ranks have been earned over an extended period of play much like mapping on numerous toons/alts.

Regardless, this is a nice change and offers a choice that we previously did not have.

This is what i think as well. And that would turn a “preventing wvw players from having an advantage” into “wvw players having a disadvantage” by default.

But how exactly do you think the retroactive would work?
Assuming you get account bound hero points would mean you can do a lvl1 char with all skills and traits unlocked. (which is clearly not what ANet wants)

I’d rather say they should reduce the price a bit more (maybe 2-3 proofs per rank, this should equal about 30-40 ranks for an elitespec which seems fair), but I’m pretty sure that it will not be account bound.
Since ANet doesn’t give free gear choice etc in WvW you also have the argument, that an elite specialisation is supposed to be the endgame content for your class and not be optained within a blink.

PS: The concept is very nice. Just needs some fine tuning to make time consumption reasonable (not equal to PvE but at least a bit realistic)

This seems like a great change and something we’ve been asking for. Not only will we be able to earn the hero points via WvW, but we’ll be able to buy superior siege. What’s more, this puts a system in place which could offer more consumables or weapons and armor. At least, that’s how I interpreted it.

Blackgate Native. It takes tremendous strength and skill to pull a lever.

In the interest of fairness to PvE players, we didn’t want to allow any WvW players who may have been stockpiling liquid world experience to instantly rank up a bunch of times and immediately begin unlocking the new expansion hero challenges the moment the expansion released. To that end, we’re making the following changes to liquid world experience.

Retrospective rewards would create the exact same instant hero challenge unlock scenario as stockpiled Liquid WxP. As they have specifically avoided that scenario by getting rid of liquid WxP, it seems highly unlikely (to the point of being pretty much guaranteed IMO) that they won’t award retrospective proofs for the same reason.

IMO, the best chance of getting some quick proofs would be to use up any Liquid WxP the night before the xpac hits, leave the bouncy level-up chests unopened, log out and hope for the best when you log int post-release and open them.

Gotta be thankful that they at least thought of a way for us to gain Hero points in wvw alone. So thank you Anet.

I don’t like the idea of boosters, since there are times when is there is a lot of downtime in between fights, unless you’re hanging out in ebg, so I prefer the liquid wxp. But it sounds like all they’re doing is turning excess liquid potions and the dailies into boosters, so no one gets an easy headstart, you will still gain liquid potions it’ll just be automatically applied to your account.

If you still feel the need to get a headstart on points, feel free to get the pve hero challenges done.

Bolded the important part for emphasis. They aren’t worried about the normal hero points, they’re worried about the ones specifically from Heart of Thorns. Which, no, PvE players cannot stockpile. No one can, since no one can access Heart of Thorns content until the expansion launches. Hence the change. Everyone starts on equal footing for the new hero points and has to start earning them only when the expansion comes out.

Granted, the change is preventing WvW players from getting a bunch of the old points as well, but… that’s a side-effect of a good change.

Since there are already so many old world HPs unlocked it seems that they will be retroactive, and it also seems that perhaps the old WvW ranks will be retroactive.

Taken another way it could be that only new ranks earned after HoT launches would be used to unlock these hero scrolls.

I’m happy that WvW players will be able to unlock the elites without grinding HP in the world, but hoping that old ranks can be used.

I’m not a fan of the auto daily boosters, as the timing has to be pretty coincidental, especially involving the more out of the way dailies.

I would have really liked it if you could choose when to use the booster, as no other daily has ever required you to immediately use the reward.

If they should keep this, then I would suggest more tangible things also be included as well. Otherwise, please just give me 250 wxp or whatnot.

It would be pointless to take away the ability to rank up via liquid world exp at launch if players can just use their current rank & badges to convert into hero points anyway. Just imagine how much rank and badges the average EOTM player must have stockpiled right now. It would mean instant elite unlocks on all their alts without needing to touch a drop of world exp liquid. I think it’s pretty clear they are targeting rank gained post launch.

This so so so much.

From what I read over and over again I am under the impression those liquid drops are converted automatically and furthermore automatically consumed on the spot.

This could simply be avoided by not automatically consuming the newly acquired boosters (so that we may choose which toon to make use of them on; variety).

The only positive thing I can think of out of this whole concept is at least ANet is finding a way to give incentive for players to stay/play in WvW via giving them boosters, however, as you’ve already stated – there are times where you will want to use them or not and this is key for the success of the motive behind this change.

As others have stated, until further information, if any at all… we may see a spike in population in regards to EOTM ‘k-train’ farming for fast WvW ranks/badges etc (good luck being any other side but OG during that time though, folks.)

Yea, and I feel in practice, this can only encourage people to stay longer with the “K-train Daily” such as tower capturer, but stuff like ruin capturer, it would be pretty discouraging given when you capture ruins in regular play, you’re usually hanging around them quite a bit. What would you do? Capture a ruin and run straight for EOTM? Even if you did that, you’d lose a few minutes already to merely reach the train.

I just can’t see how having such a stringent time limit could make anyone happy for any form of daily. Let’s take gatherer for an example. If you didn’t get any actual materials in the chest and you only got a 15 minute bonus, it could sort of work because you can continue what you were doing— you were looking for gathering nodes, but even this seems to put a rush on otherwise slow paced activity. It’s a daily, not an hourly. I should have all day to do it at my pace.

The thing about dailies is that you can come in and out, doing stuff you wouldn’t do normally while still receiving some small reward; and making things more of a chore and out of people’s control isn’t a good way to entice folks.

I’m actually more worried about the badges cost now.

  • If you k-train EoTM, you have tons of badges.
  • If you use supply traps, siege disablers, and actually scout/defend/upgrade stuff on maps that actually matter, and if you needed to use badges to buy gear because you were too poor from not k-training… you don’t have tons of badges.

Badges are just a terrible k-train currency. Defend all you want, you won’t get badges. Can I convert my thousands of Yaks Escorted into Badges please?

Oh hey, remember golem week? Anet made sure to reduce the number of badges to tie the players into wvw or eotm for longer. Whoever said the event was a badge sink because anet had something prepared for HoT deserves a badge!

Are they trying to just kill off WvW completely, why are you making changes to a game format to try and appease a bunch of players who never play the format, that makes NO SENSE at all, allow those who play your game format to reap the rewards of it, not get punished because of people who don’t,

I bet they aren’t changing the CHAMP bags from SW’s on the PvE players who have several thousand saved up for when HoT launches, I swear sometimes I wonder does Anet have a clue about there own game.

WvW is now officially just another PvE map for PvE players.

Nobody ever said it was a big issue, but it was something that saw change for dubious reasons.

Why should they get it?
It’s not needed for Map completion afaik, and they have gazillions of other HPs in pve.

This could simply be avoided by not automatically consuming the newly acquired boosters (so that we may choose which toon to make use of them on; variety).

I agree. I’m not really a fan of boosters as is, but automatically consumed boosters are a lot worse. If they have to give us boosters, they should at least let us choose when to use them.

The only positive thing I can think of out of this whole concept is at least ANet is finding a way to give incentive for players to stay/play in WvW via giving them boosters, however, as you’ve already stated – there are times where you will want to use them or not and this is key for the success of the motive behind this change.

As the boosters give rewards for all kinds of experience, no one will have to stay in wvw to get some use out of it. Thus, it’s not really an incentive to keep playing wvw, but only to keep playing.

The daily rewards aren’t too bad actually since you could just decide to not open the chest until you want the boost. It’s slightly annoying.

Those proofs of heroics being soulbound though… I understand why but that could be troublesome.

So I have to make 400 ranks for a Toon. I have 10 Toons are a total of 4000. I create daily 2 ranks, are therefore 5.5 years until I have all the elite?

You need 5 proofs for the Maguuma scrolls, which are worth 10 hero points. So that’s 200 proofs per character for 400 points. I don’t know how many proofs you can get per rank up, perhaps someone can clarify.

You can also do some PvE too. It won’t kill you, I promise.

They changed the cost, now it’s 1 proof per Maguuma scroll and 10 for a new map scroll. Each level should give 4 proofs, so you should need 100 WvW levels and 2000 badges for every specialization.

Ridiculously high.

100 levels +2000 badges isn’t too bad, as compared 200 ranks. I actually won’t be unlocking the gyro at the end I think…

I don’t like having to unlock everything, regardless of how worthless before I can start working on the elite though.

No, the Maguuma cost 10, you’re wrong.

I was going off the blog post, apparently they changed it. But you get 4 proofs per rank up according to a poster above.
