I keep hearing that people have an insane number of badges of honor. I normally just get them from jumping puzzles, but I decided to try the other way today. I was just soloing some camps, killing guards etc to get WvW rank points when I met a friendly zerg of around 15 people so I decided to join them.

We spent around an hour capturing keeps, towers, supply camps etc. We killed quite a few enemy players and I got drops as well…but just 2 badges for the entire one hour. I made sure to tag as many of them as I could, and used a fair bit of AoE.

But…just 2 badges in an hour? Had I done the jps, I would have anywhere between 9 to 18 in half that time! Guaranteed! Even when I soloed some enemy players, I didn’t get badge drops off them so it’s not just a question of dealing enough damage.

What am I missing here? What strategies do other people use to amass so many badges? I’m surely doing something wrong…

6-10 hours of wvw a day/night for some. It’s a random drop; the only way to increase your chances is to kill more people.

It depends on the tier you are in. T1 is bound to get more badges due to the pure size of the zergs. Also don’t focus on one player, focus on attacking everyone at once. Do this through AoEs and stuff. Should be pretty solid at that point. I usually average 15-20 badges per a fight of 40-50+ on each side

As said, the more you can tag, the more chances you’ll get kill credit and more loot (and badges).

It could just be the build your running if you aren’t aoe’ing and getting a lot of tags on a lot of characters. Typically you get one badge for every 3 kills.

yup, as a player in T1, i’ve gotten upwards of 100 badges in an hour on a good night. Granted this usually isn’t the case, it’s usually more like 30 badges per hour. In any case, Higher tiers and larger fights will always net more badges for obvious reasons. For lower tiers, you guys get to have smaller fights with little to no skill lag and (presumably) more skillful roaming groups and the like. What you sacrifice for all that is the loot and WXP that can be gained from large zerg fights. Everyone prefers different things.

A lot of people also do all the Daily Jump Puzzles for Badges.
You can average an easy 30+ badges a day from the Jump Puzzles alone.

Run with the zerg and spam AoE. Running solo yields alot less badges. Every major zerg fight that happens you can easily pick up 30 badges. But running solo you kill on player and have a small chance of getting a badge, move to a supply camp and kill NPCs and you have a small chance of getting a badge. See what I mean?

New players often miss loot bags. Hold down CTRL and they will be marked.

Just tag as many enemies as you can and hopefully you damage them enough to get a kill credit and getting a loot bag.
More loot bags = more chances to get badges
theres something I notice while killing lords in towers and keeps. you will not get badges from them if you do not deal enough damage . so I presume that it is the same principle applied to players.

join a guild, look at the kills

1. Play staff ele
2. Trait for greater staff aoes
3. Spam aoes in the zerg while it rushes in (just stand off to the side)
4. ?
5. Profit

In all serious though, think best day I had as staff ele was ~300 badges. Keep in mind that was running with a guild that more or less wiped everyone it faced including others guilds.

If you want more badges take a good aoe weapon/class (guardian is fantastic staff and gs geez) and just try and hit as many people as possible.

Tag and grab. Two things need to happen. Your side needs to kill a ton of people and you need to tag a ton of people. AOE as much as you can and use any skill that reflects damage or causes damage when you are hit. Reflect damage isn’t capped to 5 targets so anyone that hits you get damaged. I think damage vs downed state people helps, esp bleeds and other conditions.

Then it is all random. Once people start dying I just stand in one place so the bags all pile up together and I do not need to double back. It is random so you need to collect a ton bags to get a ton of badges, but that is okay. You get cash also.

I use a staff guardian. Full knights/PvT with perception sigil. When I crit I deal around 800-1200 while applying tons of buffs to my allies. This is how I get my badges.

They don’t drop often, but when you’re not too concerned with getting them, they seem to just pour in. Whenever you’re playing just to get a certain item, it’s going to seem like ages.

Also…. kill zergs.

Jumping puzzles are the worst and slowest way to get badges. Supervisors and lords usually drop badges and 1 in four players does so as well. If you only got 2 badges in one hour than you were really unlucky. You should average somewhere between 20 and 50 per hour in primetime.

WvW players all wonder how it’s possible that there are PvE’ers out there with over 1,000 Gold! But yeah, it’s not so uncommon to meet someone in WvW who has 5,000 or even 10,000 Badges stashed in the bank (I know people who’ve bought extra bank slots JUST to make room for the stacks of Badges they were saving), and a large part of that comes from the fact that people have been playing WvW obsessively since launch, but until recently, there was very little that most people felt was worth spending their badges on! Sure, people spend badges on siege, but for people who play a lot of WvW it’s been pretty easy to store up Badges.

And like someone said earlier, Badges usually do drop MUCH faster than you’re reporting for regular WvW’ers. You do have to remember to go back after a large scale battle and pick up all your bags (something people complain about on these forums almost daily) and you need to be hitting a lot of people, and those people need to die shortly afterwards. You can get Badges from NPC’s in WvW, but there really aren’t that many, and general “Badge Farming” strategies involve putting together a group of 40 or more people to roam a map, sometimes attacking a Keep or Garrison in order to draw out more players to kill.

And as many people mentioned, it does depend a little bit on how active your WvW “Tier” is during your timezone (Tier’s 1 & 2, as has been pointed out, usually have some action going on at all hours.)

Anyway, keep at it. Maybe join a WvW guild just for your WvW adventures, or form a group from your current guild to roam WvW. Get to know the Commanders on your server, and you’ll start to see which ones will lead you to more & more Badges. Considering it was your first time really running WvW, and you’re complaining about Badge drops and not “I stepped out of spawn and some invisible guy 1-shot, so I respawned and it happened again!”, I’d say you’re doing pretty well (^_^).

Since the new patch, ive been getting 20 badges or more for 2 hours by virtue of zerg vs zerg, capping camps and taking keeps. The more damage you give to enemy players, camp supervisors and champions, the higher chance you get 2 badges. Plus, the addition of the level up chests. It’s not so hard to get the badges anymore unlike before.

Your total damage does not have any effect on the chance to get a badge. You only have to do enough damage to tag an enemy.

Indeed and the treshold is quite low. Even on heavy support builds, 2 or 3 autoattacks will get you enough to get the credit.

Pro farming tip:
Get tanky guardian and learn to spam staff 1. It’s not the most fun way to play and doesn’t show a lot of skill but it is probably the best way to farm zergs and you don’t die very fast if you make a mistake.

Just ask yourself if the badges are really worth running mindlessly in a zerg. Coming from a lowest tier server I mostly roam solo or in a group of ±5 and have a lot of great small fights which are a lot of fun and require skill instead of spamming AoE in a big lagging battle and I still have more than 1.5k badges. Yeah, players from higher tiers who have their entire bank filled with badges will laugh about that but honestly: what do you do with 10 or 20k badges??? Even if you want to buy ascended gear now the laurels will be the limiting factor, not the badges.

The reason people have alot of badges is not because they get more badges per hour, it’s because they’re collecting them for something to buy, until now there was not really someting you could buy except for armor for your alts and siege. Even the ascended only costs a bit of badges, it’s just hard to spend them..

Zerg play

Run with a zerg, preferably one lead by an aggressive + experienced commander. When fighting enemy zergs use aoe skills or multi-target weapons/skills and try to tag as many players as you can with ~1k damage (1-3 hits) and move on.

The most efficient and effective way to farm badges?

Camp in SMC, build yourself a superior arrow cart on the right spot.

Watch the loot bags flow.

Best I got was 100 badges on a day I think, went staff ele aswell. I also play guardian on staff/hammer or staff/greatsword, sword-shield when roaming.

Running with guild group chasing enemies yesterday i got 100badges in about 2hours.. and it would be higher if it wasnt for the kitten lack of enemies in every zone.

Tip is to go with guild or if they dont like wvw then follow a commander that actually wants to pvp and not just pvdoor

i get roughly 20 to 30 late night running a small squad hitting camp and flipping them. watch the ground for bags thats where you get them. if you running primetime i recommend running with the zerg and watch the ground. youll be surprised how many you missed if not looking for them.

actually, based on my experience, the drop rate for badges has been increased tremendously.

if you join zergs and come out alive, there’ll be lots of loot bags around, with badges too.

Also, make sure you are in a party. When you’re in a party you only have to tag somebody by doing at least 1 damage, provided the total damage of your party exceeds ~1000-2000 damage on every person you’ll be getting a drop.

I actually found it much harder to get badges running solo along in a zerg than running with a smaller guild group. You’ll usually be tagging every person you fight when running as a guild group as you move through all of the enemy in a coordinated manner, especially if you’re outnumbered as they won’t run away as soon.

… If you dont want them then buy siege and drop 50 rams in doorways or something.

Anyway, if you run with a random 20+ group and engage other groups of 20+ its probably around 20-30 badges an hour. The most I have gotten in an evening is around 100 badges for a couple of hours work. I dont even wvw that much, but overall, its not that hard to get them ever since Anet boosted droprate by ALOT.

Last year you where lucky to get like 5 badges in an hour :S

You’re doing the right things. Try it again. You have to run into big groups of enemies time and again. ZvZ it!

Badges ? No problem with my guardian, yesterday 5h raid with my guild (25-30 ppl, eu T3) = 300+ badges. With rank chests, there are many more badges since they drop from chest as well.

50k kills/about 5k tokens so far and I spent all already :p

what class are u and what tier are u in?

I’m in a smaller,but amazingly coordinated guild in tier 2 atm and we get lots of epic fights, so my badge drop is pretty high.if you are hunting for badges, go to a bl that has lotsa action, find coordinated group to run with and enjoy the badges. btw ts…just saying

Get 100+ in a decent evening, usually at least 60 if we find some decent fights. Sometimes more, got 250+ the one day from epic battles around sm that lasted hours

I get about 1000 a week, sometimes less if i dont play as much, but i’m almost exclusively a wvwvw player.

Get a group of players who can last a fight and get kills, and get a build that tags a lot of enemies, guardian staff owns at this.

AoE and high damage output. The more foes you hit, the higher amount of bags you can get. And the higher damage you deal, the higher chance you have of getting a bag. It’s as simple as that.

I build Arrowcarts and Ballistas near obvious chokepoints.

Badges are very easy to get, and a lot of people don’t dodge.

Also, don’t be afraid to build more siege than you can personally use. Your peers can use the extra siege you get, which will increase the amount of kills you both get. If you need to swap which siege you’re using you can kick the current user off, provided you’re the one that dropped the siege blueprints in the first place.
