Q:
How do you take Shadaran/Etheron/Askalion Keep?
I’m curious about the “Counterable with mesmer” part for the arrow carts and ballista’s in the Lord room. What is the strategy mesmer’s can use? We ran into this last night and I am struggling at beating this defense. If a mesmer can even make it through the hallway, portal won’t work because anyone using it will be mowed down by the siege AoE. Feedback doesn’t work on the siege weapons. Invisibility won’t work cause the AoE is constant so you take damage and die anyways. I can’t figure out if any offensive siege would help as the defensive siege inside the room is out of sight and it’s a very long hallway.
Only way we beat them was outlasting and outnumbering them. Still took us over 30 minutes to take the room.
I think the though pattern is wrong here. I’m relatively certain it SHOULD take a numerical advantage of 2-1 or even greater to take a keep. I think the bigger problem is that is to easy to take garrison, even tho the spawn is really close and WAY to easy to take DB.

Mass Invisibility, Blink, and Portal.
Mass invisible everyone, blink in, double evade forward, take a left, and set the portal. You will definitely get the portal off, but you may die in the process. Regardless, that forces the carts to target where your portal is, and it allows more players to storm the front.
The best counter is to convince everyone to double evade forward though when going in… which no one ever does. Everyone in my guild gets in past the siege spam, but usually everyone dies behind us.
Normally I’d be all over this thread (it’s an issue I’ve been considering for a while), but I plan on testing my ideas next week on HoD. Can’t spoil the surprise…

Yeah it is by far the most defensible position on the map. About the only time it seems to fall is when it is hit on both sides by either server. So that is about all I can suggest, if you see the keep being attacked from one side by the other server, then you can split the defenders by attacking the other side or even just harass the defenders trying to get in the other side. If you can cause the fort to change hands then it looses its upgrades and is far more vulnerable to a proper attack by your forces.
I agree with OP. Hills is definitely the best keep, and is very easily defensible. The only way a fully-upgraded one is going to go down is if:
- The enemy has like 30 golems
- You have nobody in your keep to defend it
- You have no siege, or at least not enough to counter the zerg
- You have enemies pushing each gate (if they both get in, they will hopefully fight each other though)
I think the problem is the keep with the moat Dreaming Bay (I forget it’s other names) is often to EASY to take, which makes AH look super hard by comparison.

I find a lot of people have difficulty sieging Bay. The outer walls can often crumble to the trebs in Garrison (but so rarely the doors), and then most sieges can’t make it through the inner because the moat tends to stop a lot of people.
You chain portal in 50 omega siege golems to tear through the keep very fast.
It’s kinda simple really.
