Guild Wars 2

One month in from HoT and most of my WvW guild is absent now. Not switch guilds but still playing other content, just not playing at all. My guild consisted of about 40 players, so I would have to say 37 or so have left.

Not a true test of who has left I’ll admit, but to me a very poignant one.

I quit about a week ago when i realized that i got no enjoyment out of the game anymore and i was just logging in for the daily log in reward (could not even be bothered doing the normal dailies anymore).

I spend around 3k hours in wvw and did some pve on the side (dungeons, farming, fractals, guildmissions etc) to get enought money to outfit my wvw characters with new builds etc.

probs is, i got my chars outfitted for a while now, the only upgrade would be a legendary, but in my 3 Years playing i never dropped anything worth more than 10 Gold and the money needed for one would be about even what i earned in all my time playing gw toghether, so for me this is no motivation cause i don´t see myself ever getting one.
There seems to be a bit absence of any kind of moderate goals in the game for me once you got all chars to 80 and exotics on them.
raids = you need a regular group commit to a certain time, gear up in ascended = absolutely no interest (i have not even tried them once)
metaevents = 2 hours on a map wide event which fails due to idiots not being able to follow the most simple tasks = no thanks i wont spend my 2 hours of playtime like this
dungeons = no longer proper gold, skins are unlooked anyway
fractals = apparently nerved rewards as well, never really enjoyed them that much anyway

My private life changed a lot in the last year and i am no longer able / dont want to sink 6-12 hours each day into this game, and just look that i can play something enjoyable in 1-2 hours and proceed a bit with my characters.

so what is left for me is log into the game, check WvW, see no queques on primetime, check the Teamspeak channel, see only about 10 Users on EB and no one anywhere else and log off again because i know there wont be any point playing as i loved the big fights when you fought over bay for 2 hours straight.
I really tried it for a couple of times over the last weeks but had to log out after 10-20 minutes because it was just too boring (pvd)

If that is no longer wanted by the devs, fair enough I am out. Its not my task to stick with the game and endure a couple of months/years of sucking to keep it alive in the hope that stuff will get better.

I did that in the past for another game and at one point you only keep playing cause it became a habit, and not because you actually enjoy it.

i forgot to add that roflestomped by dragonhunter or revenant hitting my celest ele for 13k+ with some stray covalescence of ruins get old very fast too.

from personal experience looks like population shrinked to 1/3 to 1/4 of what it used to be pre-hot release, lots of players were waiting for something big and for more players to come back to wvw, instead HOT pulled players from wvw maps, new maps became too cumbersome to navigate, discourage finding other groups since you have to walk up, down stairs, get lost several times before trying to get to other group. For a lot of guys, that was final nail. On positive side new classes brought variability to builds. 95% of playerbase rather stay in ques for hours in ebg than go to new bls. Lots of players that only played wvw already quit game as producers failed to implement correct changes to this game mode. Wvw population is shrinking daily/weekly with more people leaving gw2, alliance if implemented might shrink population even further. People that are still playing wvw, playing it a fraction of time compared to pre-hot days.

I am a PvP and WvW player since 3 years ago.
But, I stoped played the game one week ago.

Well, I think Anet cares about the deceptions about WvW.

But in an other way, they do not care because we already paid HoT.

Yet, they care because some players will not buy gems anymore like me.

Therefore, they bet we will buy GW3.

I used to play 95% in WVW not including afk in la. It would have been more if i could get optimum gear there. I have played all the content in the game but WVW was the only thing i was continuing to play the game for. I find no replay value in pve whatsoever. I play a bit of Pvp, but find it repetitive and small scale after 4 or 5 games. For me the h.o.t changes ruined wvw, it had plenty of faults before but was made much much worse.
I really hate when people post assuming that others have simply not learned the map, or would feel better with fuller servers. I have played dozens of hours on the new maps, in zergs with full maps, in small groups and extensively as a roamer. I don’t like the new maps or the new wvw mechanics. I wanted to like it. I didn’t.
Added to the fact that Anet constantly ignores the wvw community and instead of improving on the game mode have made it worse. Something that could have been easily avoided simply by listening.
Given all these things I have pretty much left wvw and therefore pretty much left the game.

Not playing WvWvW since HoT launched, hating the new bl maps.
Normaly always in bl or in eb, depends on what is going on in the maps.
I don’t know what it is, but it seems like Anet is always doing the opposite of what we want!!
For me to come back to this game/ WvWvW is when the old bl’s are back.
I don’t know why i even bought the expansion!

I went from playing hours every day to not playing at all. Figured I would take a break, but since I have been gone for a week or so, I have no motivation to log in again. I only check the boards from time to time to see if anything changes.

In a nutshell, Anet decided that the way I played the game did not meet their lofty new HoT standards, and told me to go play another game.

i have not played gw2 for 3 – 4 months. I knew WvW wont get too much recognition from Anet devs even with HoT. They promised us many times for the past 3+ years that we are going to get new content, maps, reward system and on every single occasion they failed to deliver on their promise.

I think it’s been closer to two weeks for me, but I’m in pretty much the same boat.

Read a lot in here that sounds familiar. I kept logging in and spending my whole time swapping characters trying find something. I gave up about a week ago and haven’t logged on since. Its ashame, I loved wvw but it is dying. Still at least I get to spend more time with the family!!

Okay, so here’s an update on my situation, which has changed for the better.

Joined a more active WvW guild recently. There are still guilds that raid more than every blue moon. We’ve been playing the BLs alot more in recent days, and other than inconveniences it hasn’t been terrible. I’m having more fun now than at any other time since HoT launched. This was a last ditch effort on my part to enjoy the game.

The map is still poor for much of what a WvW wants to do, but it can be worked with. The bigger issue would be the intrusive PvE elements.

I only play WvW and the new BL sucks. EBG is pretty dead on my tier. This is so sad, I used to enjoy WvW a lot spending a significant ammount of time doing it.

I keep hearing rumors about a “massive wvw overhaul.” I don’t know about the rest of you, but unless I hear some official news or update from anet soon, I’m done with gw2. Last couple days, I don’t even log in. I just just check TS and if it is empty, I don’t waste my time entering wvw.

Our guild moved to low gold and have now lot of fun on new borderlands. There are still guilds running there and looking for fights. So we now play everyday except weekends. Of course this is a focused point of view – we do not intend to jump around all those slopes, kill saurs, run between those stupid rocks, do meta event, nor take structures (spamming sieges is so boring)… As long tehere are some open fields on new bls and some organized groups, we are happy. If anything makes us worry, it is of course the revenants cor skill, which is totally broken and makes fights dumb and unpredictable.

I quit because of the hot requirements. Decided to come and visit WvW and cant even get into any BL because of HoT. But HoT wont change wvw at all, or atleast that’s what they lied to me about.

How can you not get into the BL? HoT is not a requirement in WvW. The only restrictions now are level 31 which can be bypassed through using the portals in LA and f2p which requires level 60…

I dont know, just know that I did not buy Hot. Logged into gw2 yesterday since a long time. Could get into EB just fine and no waypoints in BL, and portals to BL did not work for me.

They are new undiscovered way points. Go into the panel and manually select the DSBL then they will be available.

Seems a clear result of Anet designing according to metrics without context. Their metrics show that ‘WvWers are PvEers too’. Which is correct, but mostly because you can’t get the rewards from WvW in the first place. You HAVE to play PvE if you want to WvW, to pay for food, gear, siege, etc.

And of course there’s a lot of PvX players as well. I’m one, leaning strongly towards WvW for my endgame. Treating all WvW players as cohesive entity based on metrics is a mistake, since people have different interests. Interests that the original design allowed and encouraged.

The new map, guildhall design, guild cata nerf, auto upgrades all conspire to kill off roamers and small guilds. If you think that WvWers are PvEers it makes perfect sense to gate WvW buffs behind goldsinks and timegates. They’re playing that anyway, right? We get to artificially extend playtime for two modes! Wooo!.

Unfortunately, that’s completely out of touch with how many people play, and want to play. If you’re one of those WvW players in a large PvX guild it’s not going to affect you all that much.

It’s killer for the rest of us though.

Its a big fat Anet lie. They made many promises in the past and they failed to deliver on every occasion. Like i said before ‘i wont believe it, until i see it’. It was three years ago that Anet shot herself on the foot by neglecting WvW and not listening to the community. Now they ran out of blood. Gl HF

But Mid-Event and Roaming groups attract more and more players on to the new maps. Id say its worse then pre-patch right now, but its gotten better and better again. Ppl have understood that there is alot to do/fight on the borders.
All those haters, especially in NA should feel responsible for the impression many people got without even beeing on the map once.

Same here, unfortunately. Can’t bring myself to log on anymore, every time I think about it I just sigh and go do anything else. Which is a shame, after finally joining a guild I actually wanted to be a part of, HoT hits and kills my fun.

Exactly. I should feel bad for not liking something. And I should feel twice as bad for telling someone else I didn’t like something.

EB has a lot more people, SO hop in and troll that zerg! Then theres BLs, as far as I know they were deleted because no one goes there anymore.

I have generally only been on for dailies , since WvW isn’t WvW anymore at all on my tier.

my guild has done more scrims and practice as opposed to actual WvW… We simply cannot find anyone to fight.

Seriously having to run 5-10 minutes to try to find a fight is horrendous game design.

The BL needs to be far smaller, have less PvE, less jumping and intricate map design and just encourage actual fights… not endless running around looking for someone.

Noone is playing WvW for PvE style gameplay, noone.

I’ve popped over to NA T1 and it took the group more than 30 minutes to find an enemy group in a desert bl!!!

Can you imagine running around for 30 minutes for a fight that lasts only a few, then back to 30 mins of looking?!

And this is NA T1, the most populated servers of them all!

During NA prime T1, there are normally only about two maps with people. EB (Usually with an enormous queue of 40-50 people, at least on Jade Quarry) and one of the BLs (sometimes with a very small queue). I know of very few people who enjoy the new maps at all. The only parts of the new map I take a liking to is the fire keep(because I like the design of it) and the hidden quaggan/cat room (cause it’s adorable and I’m easily amused).

However, the map has too many disadvantages to it, and the new gamemode mechanics that have been implemented have made it even worse. The map itself is way too mazey and that alone makes it hard to find any enemies to fight. The one thing I loved about the old map is that there were many open field areas to fight in and you could choose where you wanted to go on the map without having to maneuver through much terrian at all.

I would take the old map back over the new one in a heartbeat, for sure, and it’s obvious the vast majority of people share the same opinion both on the forums and ingame.

since the maps are empty its easy to get dailies done. So I go into WvW for 10-20min every day. I really wish there was more reasons to be there though. Playing on EB alone is making that map very played out.

EB has become my new home
New maps are fun if you have an organized group, and the enemy has an organized group.

everyone in my guild has quit wvw except 1 who does his dailies there. We dont even do the WvW guild missions anymore.

2 things about that

1- we dont want to escort dolyaks since its a lame MISSION.

2- We basically said we were done with WvW all together since we got this escort dolyak missions twice. 1st mission escort 3 dolyaks, 2nd WvW mission escort 5 dolyaks………………………….

We thought about changing our guild name to Shepard of the Dolyaks since WvW has become about making sure cows move from 1 camp to a tower on maps where there is no one to be found. Naw we are done and we have lost some guild members since the HOT WvW. They dont even log in anymore.

I haven’t quit.. but now I only play on EB.

Spent the evening deleting GW2 Favorites from IE Browser.

Still playing, but the passion isn’t the same. It’s slowly drifting away.

I stopped playing classic wvw maps some time ago, maybe with EB as an exception. I did not buy HoT, one of several reasons was that I did not feel that wvw was getting enough good attention (lots of bad one tho, golem week event, infamous “peace day”, several weeks of broken guards etc.). So far not purchasing does not seem like a bad decision to me. With new changes that may come some day there is a chance that things will improve but I’m sceptical.

There was word of borderlands rotation, theoreticaly I’d be interested in seeing that implemented.

I won’t be back until they bring back the Alpine BL’s. Or, at the very least, start rotating them with the Desert BL’s.

Its same here, I only go to WvW for EB and isn’t there any action there im just going to new maps for the daily, its so little players on the new maps so its easy to make the daily done.

I dont know if it´s just me but EB doesn’t feel the same like before expansion….the positivity for the WvW seems to be gone… and my friendlist are getting less and less friends online in the game at all.

I don’t play the Desert(ed) Borderlands; my strong dislike for them is unwavering and it’s concrete proof the map is an utter failure – the WvW forums, map chat etc speaks for itself.

These days I’m either in EBG or EOTM for fights, testing out builds, roaming etc.

Last night I bought TESO.

I feel like ANet have taken too long with anything to do with WvW and not delivered with their plethora of promises/hints/ideas. It’s a joke.. the redheaded stepchild of the game-modes.

I really want the original WvW back that made this game-mode fun... around hammer-train meta, pre-stability ‘nerf’, Alpine Borderlands map… the tournaments, balance patches specifically aimed at WvW.. stuff like that.

I pretty much played WVW 90% of my time in gw2 after getting geared before HOT.

Now? I don’t WVW at all.

To me, the new borderlands are a complete disaster, and I don’t think I’m exaggerating by saying that.

This will probably be my last post on these forums.

Today was a big day, my dad finally got his stumbling nooby of a character to a level that he could WvW in. This was a tremendous achievement for an old fart like him, and for my sister (who got him to play) and I, an opportunity to finally bring him into the real game, the meat and the potatoes. No longer would he be bored killing centaurs, he could (try to) kill players! Take objectives, build seige, have great fights, all the stuff that we had loved doing for years!

There were no commanders on. A handful of players, mostly afk. EBG had an enemy zerg, and though it was funny watching him try to fight it alone, within 20 minutes he was wondering what to do. And with no commanders, no allies, and only 2 80s and a newbie, we ran out of do-able things pretty fast.

He got bored with the end-game super war mode that entertained us for years in under an hour because there were so few players on the only populated map. If a totally new player can’t even stay entertained, no wonder I’ve felt so kitten bored in this game for so long.

The fact that players have to post vids on how to get to objects you want to attack/defend speaks volumes. It’s not only bigger it’s a lot more confusing…

There also used to be guides for the old maps and a lot of people don’t find their way around eb without help either :x
