This is a very good point too. If they release an event that bugs out the first day, but don’t even want to fix it (like none of us have been kicked to LA on reset?) then maybe it is best to just not bother with them!

How about an event where you actually pay attention to the WvW community and help us help you to make this game mode better/fixed.

Stop ignoring us and stop cherry picking all the childish nonsical suggestions you can tweet to make yourself look good. There’s only one way to make you look good and that is behave in a manner that deserves respect from your community.

There could be an event where you literally throw gold at the keep gates to break them down. Or there could be an event where every enemy player in the game kills you in one hit, that would really make things competitive.

Developers will join the server teamspeak, a WvW focused guild, follow an open raid commander, roam, karmatrain, everything WvW has to offer. Players will tell them what they like about WvW, and what needs to be fixed, since forum threads appear to be ignored.

You did a good job with pvp since release IMO, now it’s time to improve WvW, and we need passionate people to do it, not THIS kind of people:

With the golem week, there was no antidote to the golem rush. I would have liked to see a trap that created an empty hole that a golem fell into and crashed to zero. It would allow the towers to build up a defensive perimeter and kill off a number of the golems and give a fairer fight.

I saw a smart outnumbered group take out a much larger group of golems the other day by using siege disablers. The allied golems could rip into the enemy golems and all they could do was run away.

There is counter play to this, but most people just run around thinking they are invincible sat inside their golem.

As with anything new, at first it seems a mess, but once people start to understand what is possible, tactics will be formed.

Simplicity is complex.

Good feedback is key to getting the developers to listen to you.

Rather than more simple events that are meant to be a quick fix to provide some variety, and actually end up exacerbating already existing issues in the game, here’s some real things Anet could do to improve WvW:

1. Create server forums here on the official GW2 site. Having the playerbase have to do it, like it has been until now, doesn’t work because it forces players to go out of their way to sign up on a 3rd party site to get in touch with their server community. People are lazy and only the most dedicated will do that. Having official server forums will help increase and strengthen server identity, and intra-server competition.

2. Shake up the rankings, or change the ranking system. Playing against the same servers for months on end is no fun. I’ve been in T2 playing against Fort Aspenwood and Sea of Sorrows for a long time. I would like to fight some other servers too…

3. Make Lion’s Arch the server hub. Meaning that everyone in LA is on your server. The megaserver could do its thing everywhere else, but there needs to be a place that is exclusive for your server, and what better place than the “main city” of the game?

4. More maps. I know that Desert Borderlands is coming, and that’s great, but there needs to be more. We will still be in a situation where we have Eternal Battleground and 3 identical Borderlands maps. At minimum we should have 3 different borderlands maps and EBG. Ideally ANet should strive for the following:
-Desert Borderlands
-Alpine Borderlands (with some new mechanics)
-A Canthan-style borderlands map (makes sense cause Alpine=Tyria and Desert=Elona)
-“Fill in” EotM with more terrain and make it the 4th borderlands map.
-Two additional borderlands maps with different style terrain and architecture from all others, bringing the total up to 6.
-Reskin EBG to make it more “Eternal.” Right now it has the exact same look and feel as Alpine Borderlands. Make it look more like a mixture of Fissure of Woe, Underworld and Hall of Heroes/Courtyard from GW1.

5. Biggest change: we need a way to win. That means the ability to kick opposing servers off of a map. Capturing all objectives on the map “locks” the map for your server, providing your server with a large boost and reward. Other servers would need to fulfill some resource or conquest requirements to gain the ability to invade the map and try to regain territory on it. This kind of map-locking system would mean there there would be a frontline between the servers that shifts across multiple maps. It would also mean that there would be maps that sometimes have two servers duking it out, and sometimes all three. EBG would have 3 large keeps with Asura gates inside each of them, linking the keep to your home borderlands keep. Losing the keep severs the connection.

These are just some ideas. ANet has had 3 years to do something cool with WvW and it hasn’t. I hope they do cause WvW could be really good and unique in the gaming world.

Look at Planetside 1 and Dark Age of Camelot for inspiration. There are so many things those games did right…

Special event idea – turn all PVE lands except main cities in to PVP zones so that you can ruin PvE game mode like you did to WvW with the PVE Golem event. Make it last for a whole week too, and don’t reply to any posts that anyone makes about how upset they are with the event and how it completely ruined their game mode. Oh and don’t fix ANY bugs that come along with it, patches interrupt the fun.

It would make wvw just as dead as the golem event has.

One idea I see that I would like to support is give rally only to those with the outnumbered buff, otherwise turn off rally. That would make it an interesting fight against bigger servers.

Couple other ideas…
Sentry week – turn all sentries into tower lords, keep your sentries or lose your dolys.
Dragon week – replace boss mobs in wvw like grub into dragons like shatterer or tequatl and have them roam the entire map, feel free to boost their movement speed to scare the hell out of people.
Boss week – Smc lord replaced with random world boss.

I am invulnerable in a golem. I can literally run through the middle of enemy zergs with no fear of dying because when my golem is destroyed I am shot out at full health in stealth. At that point I can run or throw down another golem and have it built before my stealth wears off. On top of that, just the act of destroying my golem ends up downing several melee players from the explosion it causes.

This was while playing as a ranger, don’t get me started on how stupid it is while playing as a PU mes.

In case your WvW development team ever want to read my negative opinion on the current event:
All week EBG in WvW has been literally invaded by PvE players who cares nothing for WvW, but instead exploited the broken mechanics of the Golem event to make tons of loot in a gigantic Karma train.

It’s kinda insulting for the real WvW players who take competitive gameplay seriously, either PPT or fights, who barely get any loot in comparison to the PvE game mode (specially since they have to spend near 1g/hour on food).

It’s a complete shame on WvW what has happened this week, if the next event are anything like the golem event and become more frequent you can be sure that I will put this game aside and go play something else. Right now it just made me totally regret pre-ordering the expansion, realizing that if you do not fix the issues with WvW it may well easily become something completely uninteresting.

And yes, WvW is all I would play if you could make gold doing it.

Have anet staff play as some kind of a over buffed champ defending stonemist castle so we can fight them for it

Random port week

Have random spots every on the map that teleports a number of people back 10k range, that might help spread out blob fights and make things interesting

yeah I used disablers as well, but they only last about 20 seconds on golems, and if they spread out it’s hard to disable all of them… I was thinking more about something like a mine field that could only damage golems

yeah I used disablers as well, but they only last about 20 seconds on golems, and if they spread out it’s hard to disable all of them… I was thinking more about something like a mine field that could only damage golems

The group I watched lured them to a corner, forcing them to bunch up, then they hit them with a disabler and stormed them with their (fewer) golems. They did this a couple of times, and it helped that they had a small group of players going around focused on keeping them disabled at the best moments.

It was great to watch and the enemy didn’t know what to do. In the end they just scattered and lost all their golems in the process. I think our group only lost 1 or 2 golems in the whole battle.

Simplicity is complex.

Good feedback is key to getting the developers to listen to you.

For future events, I would consider limiting them to a weekend rather than a full week. It seemed that people in my guild enjoyed it for a few nights – as there were a lot of golem v golem (and some skilled groups kiting and burning down golem teams) the first few days, but the novelty wore off and it devolved into a karma train after that.

Please keep looking at ways to throw fun little things into the game, but – to appease the fatalists and keep these events from taking over an entire match – limit them to a weekend or a few days in the week at most.

u forgot to add 1500 range to the rams, and players use transmogriffers to becomes rams (it looks like some siege will work like this after hot… lel)

Now in a more serious note, make a week were siege is really sturdy at damage if built on walls (like as if had a defensive bonus).
Players that own castle/tower can use supply to repair siege and only them can built siege.
And asuran engineers could actually learn to repair golems @ school… so much ego and cant repair their tech… :P

Hello, if you make only one time another event which change rules of games , i leave GW2. Last event i dont played during all the week. Ladder competition need stable rules. You cant change rules when some server want to up on ladder.
Last event server with most golds to pay golems won.
Lot of people like me on my guild during last week have tested other games and some dont return on GW2.

Zombie apocalypse returns!
In wvw and/or unranked PvP, if a player is downed, if they are not revived within 10 seconds or they are allowed to become defeated, an infectious death nova erupts from their corpse location, infecting all nearby allies or enemies with a 10 second 25-stack of poison and a debuff called “infected”. If players go into a downed state while "infected”, they die immediately, trigger the infectious death nova and spawn an undead, which has 30 seconds of fury and 15 seconds worth of quickness.

I would dearly love to take part in the chaos spawned from an event like that

This reminds me of the Zombie Apocalypse game mode that Champions Online has. You start with a team of 4-5 hero players and the game starts with waves of AI zombie mobs spawning, that head to the center where the players are. As the game progresses the waves get larger, and with tougher mobs, and the players’ task is to survive until the time runs out. To add to that, the game (if enough players join the match) can start with 1 zombie player. The zombie player has all their normal skills, but looks like a zombie hero. When a hero player dies, they become a zombie hero themselves and their task changes from survival to killing the other hero players. It is a lot of fun, and I would love to see a mini game like this in GW2.

Well, technically what you just described exists. Ever play lunatic inquisition during the Halloween event?

What I was trying to reference was the zombie apocalypse special PvP condition, that to my knowledge only happened once in gw1. I read about it, and the fun that went with it, and couldn’t help but think it would be fun to give it a go with gw2’s mechanics. That way, a slip up could really be the end of a zerg, the defending force, and anyone who happens to not be ready for it. I think it would really throw a wrench in the “stick tight on the tag” strategy of “blob vs blob”. But hey, I’d do anything to break up the monotony.

WvW as it is now (no event), is balanced. Most of the siege weapons are actually useful. If you boost one, for example the golem, the golem becomes overpowered, and WvW unbalanced. Unless the golem also receives a handicap. I would have loved to see an event with fast golems that cost no supply, but do half of their original damage, as that balances it out (at least a bit). But like this you just spoil WvW for everyone who loves it, because there is a damage boost instead, so golems are completely overpowered.

A karma train would be a fun idea. Have a transparent purple train with the word ‘karma’ on it (or the icon), trailing behind each player – like a legendary weapon effect in a way. Or every once in a while see the text ‘choo choo’ above player’s names :-P Would be hilarious in EOTM.

-Charr Week: Only Charr toons will be allowed into WvW

-Save-a-Quaggan Week: Every hour you play WvW, a Quaggan’s life will be saved….every hour you DON’T play WvW, a Quaggan’s life will be taken

-Pet Week: Pets become the rangers and the rangers become the pets

-George A. Romero Week: WvW becomes infested with zombies, and if you get attacked by a zombie, you become a zombie….PERMANENTLY

-Playboy Mansion Week: All keeps are turned into Playboy Mansions

-Every Man for Himself Week: Everyone…EVERYONE….is an enemy player, even the players on your own server

-Spontaneous Combustion Week: Every 5 min, a random player explodes

-Precursor Week: Every Heavy Loot Bag has a 100% chance of giving you a precursor

-Dolyak Transformer Week: When you attack a Dolyak, it transforms into an autobot or decepticon

-Giant Asuran Week: All Asurans are bigger than Norn or Charr in WvW

-Stealth Week: Everyone has perma-stealth that isn’t broken when you attack

Trebuchet week – when you get hit with a rotting cow (friends and foes) you get a condition that transforms you into a Risen Acolyte, complete with their skills to use.

Taken from the wiki:

  1. skill – Necrotic grasp: projectile that pieces and makes you say “Braaaains!” in the zombie way.
  2. skill – Dark halting: a cripple attack that makes you growl zombie like.
  3. skill – Healing: skill that heals and gives fury and might, makes you moan like a tired zombie.
  4. skill – Leap: leap away on all fours while yelling “BLAAHH” in a zombie like manner.
  5. skill – Feeding frenzy: zombie finisher on players, start eating brains off downed players, gain protection. Only active when near a downed player.

Oh and trebs will have 200% more turn speed, 5sec cooldowns on all shots.

test this : implement the map cap reduction .

T1 : no reduction
T2 : -5% reduction
T3 : -10% reduction
T4 : -15% reduction
T5 : -20% reduction
T6 : -25% reduction
T7 : -30% reduction
T8 : -35% reduction
T9 : -40% reduction (EU)

… lower tiers wouldn’t be able to queue the map anyway apart from possibly on reset, so the reduction would balance the match up a bit for the rest of the week.

test it for a month. see how it goes.

A few ideas tweaking only PPT:

Double point towers/Triple point camps: during the week, towers/camps give double/triple the points than normal. Switch the focus around! Could help spreading out the zergs a bit.

High effort, high reward!: T2 towers and keeps give double the points, T3 towers and keeps give triple the points. But killing a dolyak en route gives X points (10? 25? 50?), flipping a camp grants a one time bonus (20? 50? 100?) and flipping upgraded objectives grants a one-time bonus (200 for T2, 500 for T3?). Numbers require tweaking.
