The announcement of the week-long “Golem Rush” special event is… interesting, to say the least. Regardless of whether it’s bad or not, I was wondering how often these “special events” would take place. Once a month? Once every two months? I think these kinds of events have the potential to be a lot of fun, where we can basically stop thinking and just play YOLO for a week (I feel like it should just be a weekend though, not an entire week, though that would cause complications/complaints regarding the rest of that particular match-up).

Granted, they should be fixing other WvW issues (ironically, Omega Golems are one of those issues), but if these special events are to become a thing, what other gimmicks/stupid ideas do you think can be done? (Serious or Troll, doesn’t matter; I want a good laugh)

A few ideas:
-Gotta Go Fast: Give everyone perma-super-speed
-Brawl: Disallow use of long-ranged (1000+?) weapons
-Back to Basics: Downscale everything/everyone to Level 1 (you keep all your skills ofc)
-Thunderstorm: Huge buffs to NPC Soldiers

No entry to wvw week- players will not be able to enter wvw, and the results will be determined solly by the npc’s.

No fighting in wvw week- players will have to persuade the enemy to abandon the tower in order to capture it.

Infinite range superior siege week- you can now damage anything on the map using superior siege.

Double range and damage siege week.

invulnerable siege week

pve week (oh wait, that’s permanent pve in the new bl map middle area event anyway), result is determined by killing trash mobs.

Learn about wvw week- anet will introduce it’s staff and game designers to wvw so they stop coming up with terrible event ideas.

No (insert class ) week- each week a different class is barred from entering wvw(imagine the qq from the staff spam 1 brigade).

Upscaled weekend event for HoT pre purchasers (oh wait, that’s this coming weekend).

Reward track week-wvw players will actually get a decent reward track equivalent to spvp (but only for a week, wouldn’t want players enjoying wvw and detracting from the blessed spvp ‘e-sport’ numbers).

Remove forum mod week- for a week mods stop deleting, giving infractions or banning people from the wvw forums and we see what people really think without fear of the banhammer.

Cheat week. Pick a hack or cheat or exploit from the siege guy and use it in wvw.

Sentry week – Dying causes you to respawn as a sentry and be stuck in the ring until you can do your job and kill a passerby.

Does anyone else wonder what kind of a f*** up you would have to be to get assigned sentry duty in WvW?

OH YEAH! – Siege does no damage to gates or wall, but players can hit walls and do significantly more damage to both.

Cutbacks – Only regular siege can be dropped.

Labor Strike – The only NPC’s that spawn are Keep Lords.

Dhuum’s Wrath – No downstate.

Light as a feather. – No fall damage.

Unlimited Powah! – No AOE caps.

Ram it all. – Only rams can be dropped but have vastly more range and do more damage to other rams and players.

KAMIKAZE!!!!! – When a person (and maybe mobs) dies it leaves a Big Ol Bomb behind. The bomb doesn’t effect friendly units of whichever side dropped it.

Un-Righteous Indignation – Lords don’t gain RI after a point is capped, but instead have a constant buff that allows them to do the same damage as RI without the invuln.

IKEA (or maybe “Consortium” because of copyright) Catalog Siege – All siege requires half as much supply and time to build, but has half the health.

I think these things are nice, but some moderation is needed to not disrupt regular play that much but still allow “flavor”. For example, having say, -25% cost reduction to siege, or making Stonemist Castle worth 50 points, allow conditions that hinder/speed people up in certain areas, halve fall damage, or making 12 minute ticks, etc. These things would be enough to alter the matchup signifigantly but still allow people to do their thing.

So I say I wouldn’t be necessarily opposed to the golem event if it were more mild. So if it’s setting off something where they’ll do this on a semi-regular basis, I’m willing to take the chance of disruption.

Thought of a few more;

Cartographical Catastrophe – Map layouts are reversed west and east. (For example, Bay side would be where Hills is at and Hills side would be where Bay is at.)

Biological Warfare – Fully built siege can be healed and receive conditions.

Flawed Engineering – Wall and Gate damage resistance is flipped (Walls can now be rammed and hit by player skills, Gates cannot)

Haunted House – Walls, Gates and other Structures have strong perma-retaliation (anti-PvD basically)

The Watchers – NPC Sentries are now Siegerazer-level Champions

  • Arrow cart week: Players can’t use any skills: only siege. Arrow carts cost 0 supply.
  • Skyhammer week: All land between towers is replaced by a chasm and towers are connected by thin boards. If you fall off you die.
  • Zerg week: The server with the most players on a map receive triple PPT boost. The server with the least players receives PPT at half the usual rate.
  • Transfer week: if you transfer during this week, you get a +5000 boost to your power permanently.
  • Night cap week: PPT is tripled between 1am and 10am pacific time for both NA and Euro servers (sorry, Anet doesn’t have enough WvW dev resources to determine the appropriate Euro time periods for this event).
  • sPvP week: If you try to enter WvW, you enter the PvP lobby instead.

Here’s one that’s actually good:

Quaggan lake week: the bloodlust area is removed and Quaggan lake is restored.

Yeah, I think ANet’s Golem Rush is stupidly huge compared to the stuff we’ve been posting, so I’ll try to do an ANet styled one…

Heavy Artillery – Trebuchet siege cap is lifted. Trebuchets cost 0 supply. Trebuchet Damage increased by 100%. Trebuchet skill cooldowns removed. Rotting Cow applies 25 stacks of Poison unless they have the Gas Mask skin as their headgear. Explosive Shot launches hit players instead of knocking them back

Also:

Caravan – All Pack Dolyaks are now champions. Supply convoys will now have three Dolyaks instead of one. Camps upgraded with Caravan Guard give more guards to the caravan, led by a Champion guard.

Anarchy week!
- Players may damage and kill any other players in WvW outside of the spawn point.
- Players in a squad or party will not damage their party members.
- Structures are automatically claimed by the guild of the person who flips the structure. If the flipper is guildless the flip goes to their party.
- PPT for structures goes 10x toward a guild’s influence and 1 silver per point to the guild bank. Structures flipped or claimed by an individual will award silver per point to the one who claimed it.

Yak Wee Week: Upon entering WvW you are transformed into a Yak. You then run around the map saying Weeeeee, Weeeeee, Weeeeee. The louder and the frequency you “Wee” determines your contribution to ppt.

I had a few more ideas;

Build Mode – When you cap a structure, all destructible walls and gates spawn in as destroyed.

Camping Trip – All camps (or maybe just specific ones shared on each of the bls) earn the same amount of PPT as SMC.

It Ain’t Easy Bein’ Green – All NPC’s are turned into 1-shot frogs, basically ambient creatures. (They still retain their functionality — using attacks, interaction, and rezing them — and server affinity.)

Here are few more ideas :

  • Dolyaks Best Friend Week
    Escort and protect Dolyaks on their way to work and earn +2 Points for your world upon successful Escort and Protection. Loosing a Dolyak will cost your world -2 Points.
  • Asuran Tech-Week
    All siege equipment needs less supplies to be build, and deals 10% more Damage if an Asura is using the siege.
  • Elemental chaos Week
    Automatically, cause a random elemental storm upon enemy structures(towers,keep), that causes 2% damage on gates and walls, whenever your world earns 100 Points in 15 minutes.
  • Zerg Buster – Week
    Attackers with more than 10ppl are dealing 50% less damage on structures using siege. Defenders dealing 50% more damage using siege.
    During this week all upgrades cost half the price.

I would be interested in a PPK style scoring experiment with no PPT; you would get points for

a) flipping something
b) killing someone

I believe this scoring would be more advantageous to low population servers than the current one, but would like to see it played out.

World of the dead

I like everything you mentioned except for this. Disabling a weapon class isn’t an event, it’s breaking professions.

I’D LOVE to see something like this to at least test the feel of it and get feedback from players regarding it.

1- No rallying off of killing enemy players or NPCs (no rallying in wvw period) :

There would be Downed state but players can’t rally off of killing something else. They have to be rezzed or self heal. This is aimed to emphasize the importance of keeping your force up, having medic player roles, having healers more emphasizes as oppose to just straight dps, and to have a good balance between DPS and Sustain on your force as oppose to the current FULL DPS meta where healers and support roles and shunned and considered outcasts. This is worth an event on its own. It would changed WvW strategy and combat styles SIGNIFICANTLY in a GOOD way with very little change in game mechanics.

Edit:

you could do a “no rally” but give outmanned servers the ability to rally.

2- Force-neutral seige:

All seige in wvw can be manned by any force player regardless which team placed the piece of siege. For a player to man a siege that wasn’t placed by his force, he has to calibrated it first (in a similar manner to how the hammer in skyhammer is calibrated for each team) . This would make commanders think twice before placing a piece of siege. This suggestion is much more involved as it would require a way for the seige to be destroyed by the force that currently owns it if they so wish it destroyed so the enemy doesn’t get ownership of the siege. It would have to be balanced but it will certainly make for INTERESTING strategies.
