Hello fellow WvW players,

I’m an activ wvw player and raiding atleast 4 times a week and want to discuss the cause of this lag some guilds and I are experiencing.

The last update introduced some new kind of boon sharing which prefers your teammates. So this means the Engine/Game needs to look for the position of you and your teammates and the randoms around you who could be in range for the boon you want to provide. (lets take a guard here using his stability shout).

Personally I think this has some huge impact on the overall WvW lag increase. It`s not the achievement point farmer who are causing the lag increase by sharing relics in the center of the map (which would be stupid to think so XD) its the amount of boons which are shared among 50+ players in zerg vs zerg fights that forces players to mindlessly spam 1 and hope that there healling skill will be casted in the next 20 sec
and the other zerg outnumbered in melee classes and based more on casters who needs their skills to prolly help their teammates survive.

I personally received skillags only in realy big fights before the update. Now they are occuring even in a little/medium skirmish

So guys this is a starter for a discussion thread here and i dont want it to be rage filled with hate against Arenanet. I personally hope that a thread filled with constructive answers will help Arenanet to find the major cause of skill lag and make them less anoying or occuring.

Not really.
The extra processing this would introduce is probably minimal.
There always was a boon sharing calculation, which Anet admit is a large factor in the calculations but the addition of a simple binary flag test to select party members could actually reduce the overhead.

Curiously, this morning in Garrison, we had a three way server battle with at least 50 on each side (probably more but who’s counting). We had virtually no lag throughout. It was delicious.

Besides, lag isn’t the problem. It’s the queues.

I’ve been experiencing some impossible lag these past few days in WvW as well, and also in the Mad realm. My character freezes and then I find myself dead.

I won’t dispute your anecdotal experience in Garrison, but aside from that I’m pretty sure you got everything else wrong. Lag is indeed a HUGE problem (and not just in WvW), it has indeed gotten considerably worse, and things like boon sharing involve much more server-side calculation than just looking at a bit to see if someone is in your party.

I think most of the processing would come from marks on the ground, there could be about 50-60 + marks on the floor with about 40 players standing on them that all interact with each other adjusting variables, applying boons removing boons effecting each players skills and movement as they spam those skills. I would imagine its alot of calculations.

Whatever the skill lag is its obviously a server side issue on anets part even though they pass it off as network routing for your personal isp. I guess every anet customer is the problem and not anet.

They would quite easily know if there memory and cpu capacity is maxed out on their servers.
