Is dropping blueprints considered abuse?
What do you mean with dropping so others can pick up? Do you mean taking the blueprint from your inventory and drag it outside? Because that just asks you if you want to delete the item. And if you place the structure on the ground from the blueprint, others can just build on it and not pick it up.
I am not sure what you are talking about.
You can double click the blueprint in your inventory and then press ‘^’, or whatever you have assigend to switch weapons, then you will drop a little box that other players can pick up. Thus you have lost the blueprint, since you dropped it, and the other player has received it, since he picked it up.
But can they use it? The blueprints are soulbound. I can’t even use blueprints on one character obtained by another of mine.
Yeah it’s soulbound, so you can’t directly send it to anybode, but if you drop it (using the method I described in my previous post) and somebody picks it up, it is then soulbound to him, and he can use it. I have done this myself, so I know what I’m talking about. I dropped all the siege weapons on one char, had a friend of mine pick them up, then I logged to another char, had my friend drop them again, and my other char pick them up^^. My second char can place them anywhere without a problem. Characters not on your account can use them too, my friend accidentaly placed one lol.
I’ve been doing this a lot, guild members send me their blueprints because they don’t use them. I felt this was a legitimate thing tbh.
It’s a usability issue. The blueprints should either be unbound or they should not have the option to drop for someone else to pick up. Personally, I would prefer the former option and let people sell the blueprints or trade them.
Bump for clarification
What is the big issue? It allows you to manage siege much easier. How would anyone even see this as an exploit never mind complaining about it. Unreal.

Thats exactly what the question is.
Did you read my first post? Check the link.
I want to know if the wiki is telling the truth or not.
i would say its not telling the truth, most guilds use this to keep their commanders topped up so they can lead effectivly
so you’ll move this to a new forum section , but you wont awnser the OP? classy :P
I dont think their NOT meant to be traded or used like that. Im pretty sure Anet knew about this before any of us did and they allowed it in.
I think they keep the soulbound on it so you dont mail Siege to someone in the middle of defending.
Imagine a commander suddenly get 10 ballistas 4 rams, golems, etc etc all in a couple seconds.
Idk just a thought

I would prefer them to make these blue prints unbound so we are able to just mail them instead of people Ninja-ing blue prints off the ground when we are trying to give them to Commanders. all in all it does not harm to un-soulbound these.

If they wanted them tradable, they wouldn’t be soulbound.
Heck, they’re not even accountbound. They’re soulbound. That should pretty much tell you Anet’s position on them.
Though, personally, I wish they were account bound.
They should not ban it, since It is the only way I give the commanders in my guild any of golems or trebs I happen to have. They need it more than I do. I just like the keep the rest to siege which is what I usually need.
on Piken Square and Gandara.
If it is considered an exploit, some official word would be nice.
The wiki is user edited and not completely reliable, but if people really have been banned for pressing a button that appears on their action bar then, well, I don’t know what to say…. that’s just stupid.
“Several hundred players” banned? That’s tens of thousands of dollars in customer revenue lost. How much would they have to pay the development team to disable the “drop bundle” BUTTON?
I’m guessing the wiki is full of it on this issue, but again, some official clarification would be nice.
In my view guys. They are soulbound so they cannot be sold or mailed in huge stacks to people inside WvW.
But P2P trading them is fine. I mean really. Why not. It doesn’t damage the economy and siege gets burned at a ridiculous rate anyway.
If Anet has put such an obvious option in the game, then its not an exploit.
As for wiki, can’t be used as a credible source. A dev can explain better.

I see nothing wrong with it, its not like it game breaking either person A or person B throws it down to be build, either way does it really matter who puts it down ?

This issue is on the back of my mind for forever too. Though I’ve never ever considered it an “exploit.” I mean, kitten?
I’d like to see prints purchased with gold to be unbound, and those bought with wvw badges and from the jumping puzzle account bound.
I want it to make sense right away, then another sense later. Murkiness =/= quality "

Hmmmm, can’t see why this would be considered an exploit. I see no difference between handing another person siege and sending them the gold to buy siege. I’ve also never heard of anyone being banned for this. If hundreds have been banned as the wiki claims, you’d think people would have heard of it.
Yak’s Bend
As mentioned above, I imagine the reason for it being soulbound is to prevent mailing to a siege – i.e “Come prepared”.
If this would be considered an exploit then surely so is killing an enemy and picking up the blueprint they were carrying. This promotes teams to work together to acquire siege, as they cannot donate the badges required to buy it (and really who uses gold pfft).

In my opinion, having the ability to drop blueprints for people to pick up is not an exploit nor is it bad by any means. The option to trade blueprints in WvW, by way of dropping it, facilitates the creation of superior siege by consolidating materials into a single crafter’s hands.

Dropping blueprints is also needed if you want to move your siege to another char. Heaven forbid you are able to play more then one char in wvw and dont want to pay each time to stock up on siege.
PS – Please make siege at least account bound really. Badges are account bound.
Maguuma
Have helped guildies out before, by helping them move prints from character to character… didn’t even consider once that it was any form of exploit. You still cannot mail it to someone else after moving it from character to character, so I don’t see what the big deal is.
Prints should be account bound. I see no compelling reason to keep them soulbound.

I think they shouldn’t make siege soulbound and allow us to trade it. Sometimes, people don’t know how to properly place siege so we’ll ask them to drop it and let us place it. That way, they learn and our siege is put somewhere nice
Well an exploit would be using something a way that it isnt meant to be used. blueprints are account bound so transfering them this way is an exploit. not sure if a.net will take action against it or not but just to be safe id shy away untill we can get an official post telling us that its alright.
WvW member of LK on HoD
on a side note no one cares if you 1v3-5 in WvW.
I don’t use any of the siege I get, as more often than not commanders want a certain amount down so as not to waste supply. I usually find a commander I know is competent, tell them I have some siege for them and drop the blueprints for them to pick up and use as they decide.
In that way I also feel I am contributing (albeit in a small way) to the amount of siege commanders use in order to benefit the whole server.
If it is an exploit, then adding the ability to drop it on the ground and someone else pick it up seems a little bit like entrapment lol
i never done this, but i also dont see the issue with it. Its not game breaking – does it matter who places the siege item? Is it not similar to sending a commander money to buy siege with.
Although, technically (with tedious, lucrative look at the detail), the “act” of “transferring” prints falls under the domain of abuse, in my opinion, it isn’t an exploit—nor should it even be considered abuse. As have been stated already, dropping prints for others to use allows for efficiency in WvW. I don’t see why it would be ban-able to share your prints amongst your allies (commanders, usually, are those with whom people share their prints). If you’ve got the prints, but don’t know how to use them or where to place them, why can’t one pass it to someone who does know? That said, I do hope that the Devs come forward with some sort of official word.
Thanks for all the replies and the sharing of your thoughts.
Lets hope we get some clarification soon, or at least the source of the wiki’s: ‘’hunderds of players have been banned’’
I have done this a bunch of times. I buy siege with badges, upgrade them to superior, then drop them so that my guild raid leaders can pick ’em up. I do this because they know the best places to place siege better than I do.
siege should not be bound at all period
also keep in mind that you can take siege from an enemy player
see them placing…
see theif ambush them…
see siege fall on ground and pick it up for yourself
Classic workaround added in beta. Anet will neither punish players for doing it, NOR say it’s acceptable. It’s just there. And we all know why. BPs are not to be mailed, so soulbound. BUT there is always going to be a time when you need to give someone BPs. The fact that they drop at all means they were meant to be dropped to allow transfer without making them a mail item.

I killed an enemy that was holding a ram once and got to pick it u. Was epic
Yep I came in here to post about this. I pulled an enemy from a tower once as he was about to lay down siege, and when he fell he must have panicked and dropped it.
He got away and ran back in to the tower, but I got a free ballista. :P
So its possible to get siege from enemy players…I don’t think this could easily be abused unless there was a nefarious commander collecting siege, and then giving it up. Highly unlikely.
I AM BEST!
Was wondering the same. A guildie offered to give me his BP’s he collected as he (at this stage) only is in WvW for world completion.
Even though some responses in this thread are reassuring, I’d still like to see a dev response on this wether it’s bannable or not as the wiki states it is.
really wish someone from A-net would respond to this. you obviously cant send them but yet the game lets you drop it to give it away. is stacking sieg on your commander illegal? i.e. IF WE DO THIS WILL WE GET BANNED FOR SOMETHING THE GAME HAS IMPLEMENTED.
It’s not an exploit. It is not ‘abuse’. I doubt a single person has been banned.
If you weren’t able to drop them on the ground, then why did they not only make the ability to do so, but why did they give them a crate graphic?
Any why are people crying about this anyways? How is it unfair to anyone?
Seriously.
Angry Intent [AI] | Yak’s Bend |
A reply from Anet staff would be nice.
I too thought it’s probably a bug, why make them soulbound if you can just drop them. But then it could also be so that you cannot sell them on TP maybe?
Though giving siege to the commander makes sense, it prevents people from dropping too many in one spot. Though even with this “bug” people still end up dropping a siege which the commander didnt ask for.
So imagine if this is stopped, instead of a commander dropping 2/3 rams at a gate, everyone thinks noone else will drop a ram and you end up with 5 or more; players dont know which one to build, waster their supplies, none get built and the assault is ruined.
And if Anet decide this is an exploit and ban people, well they’ll be banned a hell of a lot more than 34,000; it’d be hundreds of thousands cos everyone does this. So you can imagine the loss Anet would make from losing all those players.
That and of course there have been other WvW bugs and glitches which have been fixed, this has been around since day one and if they havent fixed it then they most likely dont see it as an exploit and is working as they want it to.

I do this all the time for our commanders. Should i just stop doing it and just mail them gold each night so they can buy a bunch of siege next time they port back to spawn?
Did you really need to make a thread about this? I am 99% sure this is completely legitimate but incase of that 1%; again i can simply just mail them some gold and have them buy siege.
Same outcome. So quit waiting on your response from anet as they have better things to respond to.
I always do this. It never occurred to me it might have been an exploit. When I leave for the night, I usually will give my leftover siege to any player that is going to stay on. It would be stupid if it wasn’t kosher, why would they have made the option to drop it?
The fact that this thread even exists blows my mind. Anet seems to have created such a fear of “exploiting” that people question everything they do. If giving my siege to the commander so that he can choose where to place it is wrong then I don’t want to be right.
Thanks for all the replies and the sharing of your thoughts.

I’m pretty certain that’s not accurate.

Not an exploit!
We do it all the time. We will drop siege boxes for the commander to pick up an place siege as he leads us. I’m not even sure how someone would consider it an exploit.
As an ELE I drop conjured weapons all the time for anybody to pick up and use—that is not an exploit either.
