Is it bad to ask for if there is a Mez in JP?
If JPs had their own instance it wouldn’t be a problem. But when people are trying to get in to actually participate in WvW and there’s an hour queue, and people are asking for ports to the JP is where it makes it a problem. If it didn’t affect the queue I would say ask away.
Depends on your server, on CD people ask for/advertise as mesmers in the JP all the time and will even relay information about invaders in the JP through map chat without any complaints. But then again, all the hardcore PPT FOR LIFE people transferred off a long time ago.
would you rather the same people spend an hour in the jp or ask for a mesmer and be done in 5 min?
I don’t think it’s a problem, don’t let people tell you how to play.
…Well, if your server is getting pushed on two fronts right to the keep and outmanned, and you hop in and instantly ask for Mesmers in the JP I can see why people might get annoyed, but that’s about it.
Asking for a mes is fine, and I like the idea of getting in and out (if you don’t WvW or plan on staying) in the sense that it frees up the queue.
My only issue is people that come on (typically most are PVE or trying to finish daily) and start asking during something hectic like an SM offensive/defensive etc. I have seen some people get pretty testy with the JP folks during those times lol…So kinda be wary of that.
Realistically if you log on and see /map filled with people frantically typing updates to some major siege event, just wait 5-10 minutes and see if a mesmer gives a shout, or even go into the JP and see if you see one porting (spot is pretty universal).
The thing that annoys me about that quesion is that people assume there is a mesmer sitting around all day in the JP just waiting for people to ask…I mean really???

Why not?
Transport service. Have some guys rotate and do this on a daily basis 24/7. Rules are simple. You get the loot, the mezz gets the siege(which he then gives to a commander).
ALso, a mezz can do the JP, then wait there till the big zerg got time… Whole zerg makes JP in 3 minutes flat.

The mob has spoken and the turrets shall be burnt at the stake.
Depends, if your side is attacking/defending SMC and you ask for JP help you might get some anger directed your way. Also if there’s enemy golems at your keep gates you might not want to ask.
Neither bothers me as much as Mesmers asking for tips in the JP.

Sorry, that wouldn’t work – I have done this before and all I wanted was a ‘thanks’, which I didn’t get half the time. Would never ask/expect for tips or anything else, but just got sick of people assuming you were there to serve them.
I would say its bad only if there’s a que for eb and your getting pushed. Free seige for server is always good other wise

What is wrong with getting causal WvW players to the top of the JP so they can get 2 free siege a day? Not everyone on the server thinks WvW is more important then PVE we need to have a balance.
No it’s not bad. This is a game and people often forget that. Players have fun in different ways and complainers need to deal with it.

and you need siege for PvE why??? The OP post didnt make any sense to me.
That said, asking if a mesmer is porting is just lazy. Just go look.

Maybe they have a guild commander that could use the seige even though the person itself is not interested in wvw?
Is not lazy, its effective. It only takes a few seconds to enter EB, check if a mesmer is there and leave. I’m sure servers that have queues love that.

Because you are only there for the JP while blocking dedicated WvWers from getting in and contributing actively to the servers efforts.
Tip: do it on Fridays before reset. Usually WvW guilds give you free rides because they themselves stock up on siege for the upcoming encounter. The match is decided in most cases anyway by then…
Do you plan to use the siege to help in WvW or at least donate it to people who will use it? If not, then it’s pretty bad.
If we are holding our own, I’ll just ignore it. However, when people hop in wanting a free chest and don’t want to contribute when our server is being pushed in on 2 sides of EB and our BL is being capped. I’ll usually tell them off or ask them to be more useful rather rather than spam the chat with non productive chatter and asking for handouts.
That being said, please thank/tip the mesmer that, once finished, sends a quick /m to EB stating that he is running a port before he leaves. That guy is awesome and deserves a bit of your coin.
TL;DR: Asking for ports = lazy. Telling about your port = helpful. Tip your mesmers.

Never a day goes by when I’m not porting people in the EB JP with my Mesmer. I really don’t mind doing it and get a kitten ton of siege donations from people who are only there for the badges for legendaries. Plus it’s fun defending non-PvPers from the JP gank squads.

I cuss them out…lol jk, I used to though
Now I just ignore them.
1. Its too much of a hassle to try to coordinate picking up prints from a random mesmer not in VoIP
2. Most of every one is struggling or putting in so much effort, your request for JP assistance is a slap in the face to all of us.
3. Get your own mesmer because my guild only has 2 or 3 anyway.
4. Dont clog the chat with useless information.
Is it bad to ask if there is a mesmer in JP? No
Is there a bad time to ask if there is a mesmer in JP? Yes
Just make sure your side is not desperately defending something before you ask. Asking for mesmer in JP when a zerg army is knocking on your keep’s door is a sure fire way of getting……

Depends how you ask.
“Hey, is there a mesmer in the JP by chance? Wouldn’t mind taking a quick break and grabbing some siege” – Not bad. Polite, just inquiring, thankful.
“Where’s all the mesmers? I need my JP chest now” – No. Rude, impatient, selfish.
On JQ there will be times when some guilds will sponsor portals to the JPs as kind of server-wide events. Never a problem in this case. Hell… if someone wants to sit on a portal on their own (no “event” going on) and help people up more power to them in my opinion. Just keep in mind that it is a PvP based map, so be courteous to those engaging in PvP and don’t use the JP as a massive guild hang-out with no one contributing to the cause. That’s just flat out rude.
Oh, rule of thumb…
NEVER ask for mesmers on reset night! Don’t do it… trust me on this.
Pft. whats the worst that can happen? Someone gets angry on map/team chat? who cares?

Not “all”. Please don’t generalize. The only time I’ve taken a port from a mesmer is when s/he has offered first.

Am I missing something? I assume you mean the seige out of the chest, but all of what I have gotten is listed as soulbound. I would love to be able to put it all on one toon.
Step 1. Acquire seige blueprints (perhaps have a mesmer port you to the top of the EB JP?)
Step 2. Double click the seige blueprints in your inventory so that you are holding it in your hands.
Step 3. Button 1 will place it for building. Button 2 will put it back in your inventory. Swapping weapons will place the blueprints on the ground for someone else to pick up and use. Already confirmed by Anet to be working as intended.
Thank you for that
It’s not the question. It’s the timing which sometime is bad. As others have posted, check the situation first before asking or the best thing to do it go through the portal yourself and spot if there is a mesmer on the second floor.
I port people almost daily on our server IoJ and I don’t expect payment of anything I just ask my guildies to donate the sieges to me since I am a commander. Then if the situation is clear I would have them post it in LA and WvW map chat so the others can get the sieges too and either donate to me the sieges or to any IoJ commander they like.
TL:DR Better to spot the mesmer yourself on JP than ask the whole map about it.

Nothing wrong with asking about it, but just know when is the right time to do so. If there is “orange swords” at your keep/smc/towers, then don’t bother asking for a mesmer in JP. Help your server first, it is WvW anyway. Beside, why would a PvE players need sieges? Most of the PvE do it for the badges to get a legendary, heck you can just run the JP on 3 borderlands to get those badges. It only take 10 min per run and most important is, 90% of the time there is no one at those JP.
Sorry to say this but I hate PvE players that jump in WvW, doing nothing, making the map have a queue just so he can get a few badges and sieges. Like wtf?
Confession charr: I /ignore anyone who mentions the jumping puzzle

In order to get into the JP, you have to control a keep. If you haven’t put any time into defending that keep, then IMO, you should stay out of WVW. Furthermore, WvW enables all sort of buffs for PVE.
What does PVE do for WvW exactly?
Be forewarned that asking this question in /map automatically identifies you as someone who someone who hasn’t been helping out with WvW, as anyone who actually has been in the zone for any length of time will have seen multiple “are there any mes in the JP” questions (and the answer to said questions) and/or mesmers advertising ports. Asking this question in /map is a bullseye for anyone who takes issue with those who ONLY care about the JP and refuse to help with WvW. If you want to avoid folks griefing you for asking such a question in /map, my advice is to participate in WvW for a bit. You’ll eventually get the answer to your question without even asking.
I usually don’t have a problem with someone asking if there is a mes in the JP, though it can get really frustrating to see it in /map when there’s a queue or when we’re on a major offensive/defensive. But so long as the person is in and out and done and doesn’t clutter /map, I won’t say anything.
I personally have more of a problem with the following…
-People who clutter up /map about the fact the JP is camped and demand that us WvWers come clear out the JP for them so they can get their badges (come help out with WvW…you’ll get badges galore!).
-Mesmers cluttering up /map fighting over which of them should have the esteemed honor of being the JP mesmer.
-Mesmers cluttering up /map demanding tips for portals.
-Lazy people who absolutely refuse to learn the JP. I had this conversation during off-hours when we dominated T8 and had control of all keeps.
Lazy Person: “Is there a mez in the JP??”
Me: “No, there isn’t, you’re going to have to run it yourself this morning”
Lazy Person: “No, and don’t tell me what to do, thank you. I’ll just wait!”
Me: “There’s no mes even running the puzzle ATM. You’re going to be waiting for who knows how long. We have control of all the keeps. Puzzle isn’t even camped. Perfect time to learn.”
Lazy Person: “No, I’ll just wait.”
Me: “O.o”

I initially didn’t mind it, but it gets on my nerves when I’m on my mesmer, and I see a huge stack of people waiting below for me or some other mesmer to complete the puzzle so they can get ported up. Just do the puzzle, it’s not hard. I’ve just started to ignore pleas for ports when I’m up there because it’s a waste of my time.
Yes, you should not be wasting valuable spots in WvW in the JP. What do you need siege for in you do not WvW?

Let’s view it the other way: If there is a mezz in the jp, he can do his thing and leave the important spot after 3 minutes.
If he does it himself, the important spot will be filled for 10-15 minutes, maybe more, if he gets ganked.
The mob has spoken and the turrets shall be burnt at the stake.
How about don’t do it at all. If you are not going to WvW stay out of WvW.

There is nothing more annoying than waiting in a queue to get into a map , only to get there and see a Mesmer spamming /m chat that they are porting people in the JP.

I think there is an issue here though. There are alot of players I come across in WvW who are clearly not playing WvW who come in and demand a mesmer asap. This always seems to happen right at that moment when your short on players and everyone is committed to a very important fight and some kid comes in chucking a tanty that they are not immediately taken handed what they are entitled too.
It good and polite on mesmer whoever help people on jumping-puzzle in WWW.
BUT!!
When you ask you must know
1.“Your team server status” not ask when your keep or SM got kitten by those bloody zerg rampage inner gate or have 10 orange cross sword over your land!!
Your team neep people to help Def not time to freaking jump kitten!!
2.No mesmer 24/7 per day for 1person gain some people enough for waste mesmer time.
3.Don’t forgot to say(type) big"Thank you"If you moron enough next time try by yourself kitten…

I find it rather hysterical that people claim that WvW is a PvP map. It’s not. WvW was designed to function as PvE meets PvP, get over it. Another thing; the JP is a WvW feature to allow your team free siege materials. These materials have no function outside of WvW, so it would be useless for people to collect them and not use them.
Please think before you post something.
If you ask yourself the following you will know the answer, because it will be the same as the answer to each question:
Is there a long Q to enter the map?
Are you losing the stuff you hold on the map?
Are you being 2v1’d?
Is your map commander making a big push to take something?
If the answer to any of these is currently yes, then you should not being trying to PVE in a PVP zone.

Why not just do the jumping puzzle.
There’s is nothing wrong with inquiring. Don’t let the complainers deter you. Believe me, the JP isn’t the only thing they complain about.
As it’s been mentioned, there is a time and place for everything. If you see orange swords and frenetic chat pacing with a lot of “ON PIN NOW!” then it might not be a good time to ask.
Long before I rolled a Mesmer, I used to say “Don’t forget to tip your Mesmer.” There’s nothing wrong with it either.
