I don’t think they can fix it, I agree this was an absurd change though. Guilds should not have lost the upgrades they had EARNED before and there should not be a stupidly long PvE grind for WvW upgrades. Its almost beyond belief that they thought this was reasonable.

I have no clue how a small guild about 20-30 is going to decide to do that. WvW players don’t make huge amounts of gold ; the timegating and the gold sinks mean we won’t see the full ramifications of all the changes til at least 2-3 months in (I had one person calculate it to be 57 days at maxed mining).
So, basically, they (anet) bought themselves some time to work on some of the things that didn’t get done in time for HoT release. Now drop and give me 20! Seriously though they did tell us that it would take a while to work through all of these guild hall shenanigans, didn’t they?

I’ve posted this idea in a different thread (with a more boring title) but it may be worth repeating here too.
How about making yaks and sentries drop WvW guild upgrade materials? Even one or two random items per kill selected from the list of stuff that WvW guild upgrades need would help. It should be as simple as altering the loot tables… I would keep it to sentries and yaks because roamers and big groups alike can take these. I’d do this for all BL maps and maybe EB but not Eotm (that’s too K-train anyway).
Doing this would give all guilds a chance to obtain the materials they need for the guild WvW upgrades from within WvW itself. It would give roamers a purpose again – either gathering mats or denying mats to another server. Protecting yaks and sentries would become meaningful again. I think it would also allow small guilds to play in WvW and not have to PvE grind simply to recover our stolen upgrades (I’m fairly sure “stolen” is the right word here). I know it’s not as good as simply reinstating the original buffs we had, but assuming Anet won’t back down (which would cause a LOT of complaints from larger WvW and PvX guilds who have already sunk gold and time into trying to recover buffs), perhaps this idea would be better than the current situation. What do you think?
I also feel that auto upgrading is a problem and would really like to see upgrades as free (no cost to player) but manually activated because I think few people would bother to stay to upgrade in enemy borderlands and small guilds/roamers would find more T1 structures to take. Not sure if this is an issue for bigger WvW guilds though: at the moment I think larger groups can do pretty much whatever they want (except find another blob to fight perhaps).
I’m all for actually playing WvW to get stuff for WvW.

We have around 130 members in our WvW guild, more than half of which are members of our PvE sister guild. They are helping us with the guild upgrades, but they also have to worry about their PvE Guild. So it still takes twice longer to do things for both our guilds.

Need these so we can decrease the time-gate of getting Aetherium for the upgrades by upgrading Mining Speed.
Before I can get Ley Line Sparks, I have to do hours upon hours of TD events, get Ley Line currency to buy Chak Acid, and then end up with a 1:2.5 ratio of getting Sparks out of Crystallized Cache. (If there is a more efficient way of getting these, please let me know!!)
Did i mention I absolutely abhor the TD Map? What with the 100million monsters around, and their 3-5k damage per hit on me, and the very confusing map with 4 levels, with no clear way to go up or down.. omg! It’s crazy!
I have no love for PvE but I love my guild, so I am doing this for them.

You don’t really need to increase Mining Rate. If you haven’t noticed already, the time it takes to get the Ley Line Sparks and the Quartz Crystals for charging and making those Ley Line Tools is more than the time it takes for the Aetherium to be mined at the normal rate.
Mining Rate is definitely some sort of racket.

As I’ve posted many times, Guilds should not be prioritized in WvW, period! Worlds need to be a cohesive military force. Buffs need to be available to every soldier of a World because they all matter equally. Not gating buffs to social cliques, especially to only the largest large social cliques at that.
The entire design concept of gating WvW buffs to guilds is a complete failure….
I will agree that large guilds should not be made mandatory in the way the update has made them, but the game is still called Guild Wars. It’s all very well when small guilds (1-3 members) are able to farm and accumulate WvW boosts/buffs, but if it was just down to individuals who are guildless it would take some of the meaning from the game. You may as well just be playing Elder Scrolls Online (WvW isn’t that bad there, actually).
Not sure if my position was clear there, so to clarify… Anet’s apparent focus on big guilds is a poor turn of events, in my opinion. Small guilds should be just as capable of progressing and of being able to provide buffs in WvW. WvW is supposed to be a pretty level playing field. If Anet is going to give big guilds big benefits, they should be PvE-based benefits, not PvP advantages.

Sort of. It depends on whether or rather how quickly your guild is getting resources. Generally, if you have most of the mats and Aetherium is your rate determining step, then you should be focusing on mining rate. At mining rate 1, 3000 Aetherium takes 2 days roughly, whereas 3000 Aetherium takes 1 and 1/2 days.
Whether it is worth it is completely dependent on your rate of materials acquisition for other things.
Essentially, if you are waiting on flax/coarse sand etc, then mining is not important.,Otherwise you should focus on it.

mining speed 2 and capacity 2

Yeah, mining rate is really about finding the sweet spot for your guild in terms of it’s ability to gather the required materials. Or you can just wait, it’s not really required.
I don’t know if I would go as far as to say this killed WvW guilds…but it is certainly really annoying, not only in terms of how much time it takes to get WvW upgrades, but the sheer cost and materials involved that are basically impossible to get in WvW alone.
It looks like they do not want WvW guilds playing the game anymore. Maybe they will realize some day that most PVE players do not generally like PVP content and Vice Versa. Dedicated WvW players want to be able to access everything they need to play WvW in WvW without being forced to do something they do not enjoy.
That was the great thing that set GW1 apart from many games was you could go straight into pvp content without having to to do lame PVE content.. it was only lacking LArge scale PVP.. now that they add the large scale PVP they they have taken away one of it’s best features. Being able to PVP without being force to PVE and they pretty much ruined that for those players that enjoy being able to do so.
Would rather play something else than spend an asinine amount of time grinding in PVE just to be able to enjoy what I did before paying extra ( buying the expansion) to have the game I enjoyed ruined.
WvW / PVP ONLY
PvE needs players to effectively get things done in their Worlds Events.
PvE is the cash cow that basically pays the bill for everything.

I say some of the pve events is about splinting ppl up to attk points from more then just the “super blob.” This is also ture for the new bl there is a big disadvantages to running as one group on these maps due to small spaces to move though and how long it takes to take major objectives vs how far apart they are.
Any way wvw guilds who where not dying are still alive guild who where dying where going to die any way that just the way WvW guilds work. Now we are seeing the old wvw guild fall to more GH GvG and they are starting to realy kick off.
So please stop blaming other things that is more of the fault of non decanted or simply bad leadership.

Shrug. WvW guilds quit all the time. I do think it is quite insulting to say guilds stop running due to bad leadership. I remember when HOPE formerly on FA was on SOS at the time quit running.
It was simply time for them to stop running. I would never insult them by implying they did so because they had bad leadership, but hey, your choice.

The fact of the matter is for me as one of the guild leaders, I pretty much feel burnt out.
PVE-ing is not what I love doing. I’ve been brought out of my preferred gameplay cause some genius? dev decided to lock all WvW upgrades behind PVE.
I used to play more than 12 hours a day, but now just thinking about the PVE portion just exhausts me already that I dont even stay for 1 hour.
Should be simple its not.
PvP Arena needs PvP Potions for upgrades, good.
PvE Stuff needs you to do PvE for upgrades. awesome.
WvW for WvW Upgrades? Signs of ANet Logic? Zero.
