Lower the Rank Requirement for Armor
My vote goes for;
shoes = rank 1000
gloves = rank 2000
helmet = rank 3000
shoulders = rank 4000
pants = rank 5000
chest = rank 6000
be happy that is is 2k for all .)
If only you got achievement points fo the armor….
If the time to get other legendary backpacks were equal this wouldn’t be an issue. This really sets a bad precedent for future items in WvW because they’re essentially devaluing the game play by overhauling the item and its requirements.
Majority of wvw players are happy as it’s, just pvers complaining. old wvwers would like to see even rank limit you have to reach before entering main wvw maps.
Majority of players you say? I would love to see on what are you actually basing your statistics…from my experience, in game i havent found a single player who is actually happy about this changes, and is really easy to understand why is that, on its core its extremely unfair ….. snip
Two things:
1) people vote with their actions. If nobody is happy with the update then why are there queues all over the place? This morning at 10 we had an EBG queue of 30! In the evening all bl’s and EBG have queues of 30 min – 2 hours.
2) people leaving WvW because some of the rewards take a long time to get? Just not happening. The Ultimate Dominator title is out of reach for almost everybody, and no one is comlaining about that.
Because a lot of people (and seemingly devs in particular) seem to confuse things people will put themselves through for a reward, with what they ENJOY doing. In a certain other game I did a whole lot of dungeon grinding every week to max out a currency to be able to boost my gear’s stats by 10 iLvls. Did I have to do it? No. Did my guild NEED me to do it? No, we already had everything on farm. Does doing it mean I enjoyed it? No. So why did I do it? Cuz “10 iLvls is shiny dude!” and not doing it would be equaled to “slacking”. People complained about this mechanic like crazy. It was still reintroduced in the next expansion cuz “people loved it last time!”.. No, people did it. They didn’t love doing it. There’s a difference.
Same thing for earning WvW Ranks now. I will get to rank 2000 if I have to, but being on a pretty toxic WvW server I most of the time will not enjoy doing it. I’ve already disabled Team chat cuz it’s so full of hate towards “newbies” and “PvE plebs” and “zomg PvE:ers go k*ll yourselves” nonsense..
And for anyone saying “Well WvW:ers want special things too, they deserve to be rewarded for all their work!”: Does that mean you agree that the next PvE “specific” item requires you to have 20k AP to obtain? You already have WvW specific titles etc.. Now you have some really awesome rewards too (otherwise us “PvE plebs” wouldn’t come into WvW to obtain them).. But you seem to confuse “unique to WvW” with “only super duper hardcore and have been for years should be allowed to have them”. This attitude doesn’t really exist in the other game modes, so I’m a bit confused as to why WvW:ers seems to think they’re such a special group.
So you want to grind 2 years for a ascended armor in a game mode you do not like?
Imho the point of these high rank requiremens is especially that it turns off grinders, and rewards players that like to play WvW. If you like it you will get the rewards eventually and it will not feel like a grind.
As a PvX completionist, yes, I will.
I don’t want to, nor will I be all smiles about it, but I will do it.
And it will feel like an unproportionately huge grind that’s for sure.I mean.. Rank 350 for a Legendary Back, Rank 2000 for an Ascended Armor with a few extra particle effects.. But it is an addition to my wardrobe and some pieces look really nice, so..
Now I’m just hoping they go the same way in other game modes; Next shiny PvP thing requires Dragon Rank (not that that says much more than a 2k+ ranker that Karma Trained in EoTM but hey, who cares right?) and that the next shiny armor in PvE requires 20000 Achievement Points and full map completion on atleast 2 characters in addition to whatever grind it it takes. (Of course this sounds absolutely ridiculous, it’s supposed to)
That you chose to play an “unrewarding” game mode exclusively for years because (I’m assuming here) YOU ENJOYED IT ANYWAY does not entitle you to anything more than someone that chose to dedicate their time to another game mode.
I appreciate you being frank, and of course it is your choice on how you spend your time.
Regarding the ‘entitlement’: No, I do not feel entitled; the shiny is not even high on my wish list. We play WvW for the fun and the glory. Getting this reward after a very long time (indeed years) when the WvW rewards were puny is however very welcome.
A tip: If you really have to spend such a long time in WvW try to make the most of it. If your server is toxic, then go to another one. I have only experience at Far Shiverpeaks, but from what I hear the atmosphere at most servers is fine. Ignore the trolls and play with people you enjoy spending time with. There are many ways to play WvW (zerg, roaming, havoc), and you can choose how you want to play. You can play very serious or extremely casual. Take an interest in the game and maybe you will like WvW by the time you get to rank 2000.
My issue is not with the rewards themselves, and the grind would be fine if it was the same for everyone.. Like if it was only about grinding the tickets, because that’s gonna take quite a few hours of active gameplay in itself.. but it’s not.
The Raid Grind for Legendary Armor is the same for everyone, if you and I both start raiding tonight we will get the Legendary Armor for the same ammount of work. I don’t get anything special in there for having PvE:d the past 5 years..
If we both head in to Fractals tonight to farm the Ascended Armor there, or the Legendary Backpack, the grind is the same, we’d both need an equal ammount of runs and effort no matter what we did before we started..
If we want the PvP Backpack; ok you might have to “grind” PvP Rank 20 if you’ve never set foot in there; but that would take tops 239 games in Unranked and that’s if you lose every.. single.. one… which is highly unlikely. But say you are that terrible at playing, or just have the worst luck in gaming history; it’d take you around 60 hours if all games last the full 15 minutes (also not very likely). So about the same time as grinding the Diamond Chest for a new player on a losing server? Not unreasonable..
But WvW? No they need to be rewarded for “past work”. Not only do they get more pips and faster chest rewards, they also need their “special armor” locked behind an unreasonably high WvW Rank requirement.
Sure, you can see it as a reward for past work and claim you worked for it so you deserve it, but then why was my reward for past work taken away? I’m looking at you here GoB vendor! My past work should not be rewarded, but yours should?
To top it off there’s the regulars with the attitudes that “Do you want WvW stuff? Well grind WvW then.. It will take you a year, or two? Well suck it up!” but when the same individuals are “forced” to go into another game mode for a few days to farm something (HoT Runes for instance) it’s all “boo hoo you’re making me PvE for this/that and that’s just not fair!” and what did ANet do? Add those PvE Runes to WvW vendors..
If all game modes were equally separated, it would be fine.. But they’re not.
I do PvP; I get PvP and PvE Rewards.
I do WvW; I get WvW and PvE Rewards.
I do PvE; I get PvE Rewards. Well, I do get Badges of Honor every once in a while for reaching milestone AP-rewards (rarely at my AP though), but what could I get with those up until this patch? Funny enough, mostly items also available in PvE! There are ofc the two previously unique to WvW Armor sets (that not many mention in these threads though, since “WvW had nothing unique”), and before it was removed, the Gift of Battle.. but that’s it.
We’ll see where I am on the WvW Rank requirement after completing the work for the much less “special” Legendary WvW Backpack.. Peace!

i say no, i think spending 2 years grinding for anything in a game is too long and that it should be less. Tons of others players would be complaining about this if they had to start all over at rank 0 and work there way up to 2k again. The only ones who aren’t complaining are the ones who already have 2k.
If this is how they are going to reward game modes then where is my 5 year+ of playtime reward for pve or for spvp or for playing the trading post and earning tons of gold? Because I definitely have that so where is my impossible grind for 5 year + reward? In addition I played gw1 since launch, its about time i get more rewards for that since I’m still playing gw2 I DESERVE IT. Even better they should release exclusive legendarys and ascendeds for people for who play gw1 and got gwamm title and who play content in gw2 for 5 years+. If they release 5 year + playtime rewards how come i bet everyone in wvw would complain? In fact, I bet everyone in every game mode would complain.. even me.
at what point does it become stupid? Personally I think anything over wvw rank 1k is unreasonable.

All rewards are “PvE” rewards. If we didnt get in wvw there just wouldnt be any rewards. There was never WvW armor or WvW weapons. Mystforged from tournaments? Thats y our idea of wvw rewards? Dude your post reads like this.
“All my pve time has gotten me “great new stuff”(gns). Im sorry wvw didnt allow you to get gns sorry you played wrong game mode. Wait wvw now has gns i want gns but it requires i play gamemode for 2k hours. Wait why doesnt my pve 2k hours also apply to wvw 2k hours so i can have 4k hours of even more gns? This is unfair anet please nerf"
Oh mighty Anet I thank thee. Thou hast starved the gluttonous insatiety of the candy questing pver in wvw through your stalwart defense of that which is unattainable by them. Then either I totally failed at getting my point across, or you’re bad at reading. :P
This is to the point that I would say they really should have made GW2 from the beginning with separate sets of armor, weapons and trinkets for each game mode that had to be earned in that specific game mode, can only be used in that specific game mode, and would have given the devs the ability to tinker with the equipment and skill stats for each of those game modes to achieve balance. As it is, in WvW, our balance suffers from changes made to affect PvE balance because they both use the same equipment and skill stats for the most part. Of course, it’s probably too late now to reverse course on that…
I’m OK if ANet lowers the rank requirement if they give us Legendary armor at higher rank.
If you are grinding out the PIPs as intended, you’ll easily make the r2000 requirement in the time period. If you are afk/PIP farming, you will not.
In a year from now, this PIP system will seem “fair” honestly. And since WvW doesn’t get touched often, this is the only way to keep people active and participating for that long.
I cant grind out the pips as intended. I am booted from squads/zergs and I often scout or sometimes, yes, sometimes, the commanders run around aimlessly or stand around inordinate amounts of time burning up boosters/food/etc. and they cap or kill next to nothing, and hence my grind, which is often beyond my control, drags on interminably despite my best efforts.

LOL. Piece of advice – get over yourself. The person (OP) you’re complaining about has played gw 1 and 2 since beta in all forms and will kitten you all over the map. Pretty sure last time I saw him, he was standing over ur avatar corpse.
People still demanding that the game be made easier for them?
Some of us who’ve played since GW1 hit the streets feel the level requirements are just find. Well done anet.
You all are so focused on wvw rank for this armor and aren’t even paying attention to the time gated material.

Pretty sure the OP said he was beta gw 1 and 2. Lowering the level requirements for rewards does not make the game any easier. Dumb decision again anet.
The rank system isn’t something that supports the longevity for the game mode. It makes the difference to big between new and veteran players. I’ve played this game mode alot, and i can see that it’s not inviting at all to new players. They have to start playing so far behind the veteran players. Rewards should be equal to the effort you put in there and then, not based on how long you’ve played before.
From my experience it’s not tempting to start playing old MMO’s that have enormus grinds so the newer players will never be able to catch up with.
Ranks should be deleted and forgotten. WvW should be based on equal footing from a single players perspective.

We’re asking for equal ground when it comes to this monstrous grind, and we’re being the entitled snowflakes? Really?
Main complaint is Rank Requirement for certain items. Anyone going for unlocking everything (Legendary Backpack, all 3 T3 Armor Sets, and All Exotic Mistforged Hero’s Weapons) would need to be in it for the long haul, almost 2 years of gaining Diamond Chest every single week. That would most likely get you to WvW Rank 2000 either way, and (most) people aren’t even complaining about that huge grind. I find that fair. The more items I want the more effort I put into it. Simple. The real perk for long time WvW is the extra pip gain tbh; with a rank 4k+ only having to spend 13 hours ish to max Diamond Chest, while a Rank 0 would have to spend 46 hours for the same Tickets.
The Rank requirement is still bloody ridiculous for those that only want that specific reward though; the 1 armor set.
If this is how they are going to reward game modes then where is my 5 year+ of playtime reward for pve or for spvp or for playing the trading post and earning tons of gold?
I dunno what’d you spend your gold on?
The Rank requirement is still bloody ridiculous for those that only want that specific reward though; the 1 armor set.
It’s not. Getting the T2 armor and a small series of T2 weapons while you gather the tickets for T3 armor puts you at roughly 1800, at which point you can purchase multiple pieces of the T3 armor.
(edited by Sarrs.4831)
People are so focused only on the end ascended items.
People. There are TIERS of rewards. Three of them
Newcomers get the triumphant set and t1 weapons.
Then experienced wvwlders start getting the t2 armor and eventually the weapons.
People that have stuck with the game mode for a long time get the t3 armor.
Its not like if your not getting the t3 armor your getting nothing from it.
Don’t ignore everything else there.
This isn’t supposed to be something people do for the skins. Its a reward for people that play and love the game mode as a whole. The skins aren’t supposed to be the goal here. Its a REWARD for sticking with something for a long time.
The GOAL is to play and enjoy the game mode. If the skins become the goal and are made easier to get then the game mode will be filled with farmers for a short while before they all immediately dissapear agian.
Is the 2k rank minimum for the FINAL REWARDS gonna turn people off? Maybe,…probably..GOOD.
But it will give people that are dedicated to the game mode something to look forward to.
And it may encourage other people to try the game mode and realize they love it.
As such. I STRONGLY disagree with anyone attempting to lower the rank limit.
If this seems super out of hand for you and turns you off from the game mode. You weren’t going to stay there long anyway.
Dont salivate over the new pair of boots and make that your reason for existing. Let it be something you would have gotten anyway for doing something you enjoy and it makes sense.
I agree with you. I am 100% on your side.

No. If I aim for nothing but T3 armor, 1 set, it will take me just under 500 hours to farm the 2620 Claim Tickets I need. You don’t get 2k rank in 500 hours unless you’re up against a server where you’re in a zerg that can flip paper towers and keeps on a regular basis.. Even if 2 ranks/hour is a decent average, any beginner would still be maybe rank 1k, so halfway there by the time he/she can afford it. That’s bs.. and that’s 15 weeks of farming nothing but WvW for the (probably even above) average gamer when it comes to time. Most people with work, kids, real life obligations etc, won’t have the 6.5 hours they’d have to spend in WvW every single day the first weeks, to get their Diamond Chest to begin with. If the rank req was 1k for all the pieces, fine. 2k is too high.
I really think there should be more prestige items of a certain rarity in this game because right now im not very afraid of someone with “legendary” pvp wings comming at me on a border. It took me a year or so to complete my first legendary and this was totally ok for me because it ensures that not everyone and his mother runs around with it and gives these items value. The SAB infusion would fit my engi perfectly but i dont enjoy the SAB so just dont get it and im cool with that. There are so many skins in that game everybody can get that we need some rare ones even if they are copy paste.

your aware that only 2% of the total gw2 population has rank 2k+? seems like a nerf is needed to me. thats 2% of 115k players, so only 2,300 people and a ton of them exploited eotm when it was released.

Since I have merely unlocked T2 by doing the Reward Track so far, not yet purchased it, I cannot see the costs of T3 other than the Rank Requirements. Therefore I am going by the costs listed on the official Wiki.
They state 1310 for a set of T2, 1310 for a set of T3 = total of 2620.
My source: https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Skirmish_Supervisor
If this information is wrong then obviously I have to adjust for that, but I have no way of knowing for sure until I see the actual cost on the NPC (or a screenshot thereof).

Ofc not. But then it comes down to a bit of luck. Some nights I’m sure you do well, so do I. Other nights, it seems wherever I go, whenever I go, there’s a roaming group passing by that snipes me, or there’s another group going for that same camp.. Some nighs I seemingly spend 1-2 hours doing nothing but killing some random straggler or a Sentry.. Those nights do not do wonders for my WvW Rank.
That’s why I average things out to 2 ranks / hour, and to go above that I’d atleast need a pretty good karma train every once in a while.

I think Anet should drop the rank requirement down to zero, just to spite petty, smug people like this.

They state 1310 for a set of T2, 1310 for a set of T3 = total of 2620.
Those costs are wrong. T3 costs double the cost of the prior piece. T3 chestpiece costs 700 Skirmish Tickets, f.ex.
The wiki appears to be hilariously wrong. I will correct this.

Oh mighty Anet I thank thee. Thou hast starved the gluttonous insatiety of the candy questing pver in wvw through your stalwart defense of that which is unattainable by them. I feel soon they can return to their ummutable pveland to squish 5 frogs and pretend AI is the true end game. You have enriched us with their bags and we have bathed in their tears. Do not stray from the course lest these snowflakes stay and beg for wxp-train in map chat. In your name we pray… Anet.
Love this
Its ok, I have faith that anet will nerf this.
See what you’ve done parents?
I’m genuinely surprised there isn’t a global crisis of resiliency.
….. Oh wait.
your aware that only 2% of the total gw2 population has rank 2k+? seems like a nerf is needed to me. thats 2% of 115k players, so only 2,300 people and a ton of them exploited eotm when it was released.
No, instead of getting the trophy for just showing up, you now have something to actually put some effort in and work towards.
Again: YOU DO NOT NEED THIS SHINY TO EFFECTIVELY PLAY THE GAME.
[/end capslock ]
i bet the scouts and escorts who are ok with the rank have been playing wvw since launch, how about some who have only been playing a year or two, I bet they arent in range of 2k.
I started late January 2k16, 2252 here.

LOL. Piece of advice – get over yourself. The person (OP) you’re complaining about has played gw 1 and 2 since beta in all forms and will kitten you all over the map. Pretty sure last time I saw him, he was standing over ur avatar corpse.
Im not the squad reject crying about ts asking for what? The commanders to let you in squad because you think your useful? You must be buddies with OP cuz yer both entitled snowflakes that want ppl to change the way they play game so you can play the way you want. Piece of advice – get over your insecurities and post this stuff in the pve forum where it belongs.
entitled snowflakes lol? that statement sums up who you are nicely, i got all the information I need about whom im arguing with w/that. I would hold up a mirror and look at yourself, especially when talking about the insecurities of others. What your really getting at is how you feel insecure about your wvw reward and how you dont want other people encroaching on your “prestige.” This is why you are so vehemently against this, because it threatens your work. Yet at the same time you disregard any other players accomplishments or work because according to you their accomplishments don’t mean anything to you. This is because you don’t have many accomplishments in other game modes and are insecure about the only one you do, having high wvw rank, which arguably is not that much of an accomplishment in gw2.
Its ok wvw will always be YOUR safe space from the rest of gw2 in its entirety. big bad pvers and spvpers will soon leave as soon as they figure out the grind is so ridiculous and you can be all by yourself again. I’ll wait for your next post, further insulting me by calling me pve carebear noob, and yet u have no idea who I am or what game modes I play on gw2.
Yes, thats the plan. WvW is not a content map you grind for rewards and then whine at anet to make new content for you. If ppl come and join and find it enjoyable those are the kind of players that wvw needs not the ones that just grind for rewards. Its the journey man not the destination.
The rank requirement is poorly thought out and is far too stringent. It absolutely needs to be lowered (but not by much). Lets go over some facts about the armor and rank requirement before I get to my argument:
- The t3 ascended armor (mistforged triumphant) is essentially the same as t2 ascended armor without requiring you to craft materials for purchase. The chest is quite glowy but the rest of the pieces are visually the same.
- The t3 ascended armor is likely meant for wvw veterans and not new players. New players or players who have not committed much time to wvw at all have other ways to acquire ascended armor: they can just buy the t2 armor, earn it from pvp or from fractals/raids. All of these alternative ways are far more effective than doing wvw for ascended armor.
- The t3 ascended armor requires certain ranks to buy ranging from 1500 to 2000.
- Historically, no one has really cared about ranking up past around rank 1000 since at that point you will already have all wvw exp you need for the upgrades. Essentially, wvw exp has come in as a function of time.
- It’s also not a good measure of how experienced you are, how much time you’ve put in or how useful you are to your server which is why no one particularly cares about rank.
Now then, for all of you who think the rank 2000 requirement is fair, let me give you a statistic that completely supersedes any argument you can muster:
- I have been playing this game for 3 years and been playing wvw for a good 2.25 to 2.5 years.
- I have 2700+ hours alone on my guardian (pretty much the only class I play).
- For the first year and a half, I devoted roughly 1 to 1.5 hours per night to wvw. About 1/3 of that is roaming and 2/3 zerging with a frontline guardian build.
- For the most recent year (since last June), I joined a much more dedicated wvw guild and have pumped on average 2.5 hours per night into wvw.
- Again there is a split but I’d say it lies far more towards zerging: probably 70:30 zerging : roaming.
- My rank has gone up only around 900-1000 in the past year.
- I use boosters on reset nights or during prime-time hours if I have them.
- Focus is split pretty good between fights and ppt, although the guild I’m in does a fair bit of ppt if we just can’t win the fights.
- A conservative estimate for the amount of hours I’ve put into wvw is 1700-2000.
After all of this I am not even rank 1600. At my current rate of ranking up, it will take me another 500 hours, or about 2/3 of a year to reach rank 2000. This is STILL ridiculous.
Regardless of my rank, I think that 2.5 years honestly and whole-heartedly playing one game mode entitles me to any piece of armor from that game mode. This would be true for literally any other content in the game. Instead, veterans like myself get slapped in the face with this 2k rank requirement nonsense which is an absolute insult to the amount of time and dedication we’ve put in to wvw.
This is NOT a matter of knowing the requirement and purposefully working on ranking up. This is a matter of rewarding veterans who play the game since that’s the intention behind t3 armor. I think anyone who has been in the game mode for a good year or more and is actually fighting and capping points deserves to be considered a veteran and deserves to have enough wvw ranks/badges/proofs of heroics/existing currencies to afford that armor. The ONLY thing that should gate veterans should be new currency (the tickets).
Anet, please lower the rank requirement. I think 1000-1500 (gloves-body armor) is fair. We understand that wvw armor is supposed to be prestigious and reward veterans primarily but instead, it only rewards a minor sect of players since the majority of veterans don’t have rank 2000. Lets also not forget that this armor is effectively unachievable by anyone who is new to wvw since yes, ranking up is most definitely time-gated.
Some additional statistics:
- I have a guildie who joined at the same time I did (last June). He is one of our tags and tags up maybe once every other week for 4-5 hours at a time. When not tagging, he runs with us, same as anyone else, for a good 1.5-3 hours per night. He is only rank 1100.
- Friend of mine has played this game since beta and has been playing wvw at least as long as I have. He never uses boosters and roams a bit more than he zergs. Is only rank 1400.
- Another guildie has played this game for 3.5 years and has spent 60% of of her time or more in wvw almost exclusively zerging. Is barely above rank 2000.
rank 1500-2000 is fine, god forbid that the players who have stuck it out through almost 5 years get rewarded a bit more than the people just jumping in now for the skins.
I’ve been doing nothing but WvW for 3 years, I have about 3k hours total in the game mode. I’m in the early 900 ranks, because I don’t k-train/blobfight. I’m a roamer, and I help my server that way. Towers, camps, sentries, general havok. Unfortunately that doesn’t yield as much wvw rank as humping a dorito day in and day out.
I think for this particular reward, the wvw rank requirement should be lowered to something a casual – but loyal WvW player can achieve in a year. Maybe beginning of silver? Which I think is early 600s?

Much appreciated. Makes me even more glad I didn’t start working towards that Armor yet.. xD Cheers
From a real point of view you need a lot of ticks to even get the t2 and t3 armor. That alone should be so time gated that you will get the ranks to get the armor. Well unless your doing the max pip tricks and not realty playing wvw. If that then NO ONE has any sympathy for you in wvw.

And thats why Im here. Wvwers had generally been mystified by some changes anet made to wvw and it wasnt until you realize its the snowflakes that visit wvw forums and say stuff like…“not enough mobs in wvw we need more pve based events” we get crap like the cannon event on dbl.
Regardless of my rank, I think that 2.5 years honestly and whole-heartedly playing one game mode entitles me to any piece of armor from that game mode. This would be true for literally any other content in the game.
And it does to all but one set. We need hard to get items to give them value. For example if i really enjoy killing skritts and mining nodes in one zone and do this for 3 years i have been playing pve for the whole time. So am I entitled to any armor or skin of that mode? No if i want HOPE i have to play a lot of aspects of the mode. Sorry but your post sums up to: My rank is 1600 so i think the best reward should be available at hmm…. around 1500.

Ikr. Like when they removed wvw maps from gift of exploration. It was cute to hear the complain in mapchat but I had recieved money to take enemy points by pvers. Maybe same is in order. Pvers start paying tags for wxp training?

Actually I think the rank should be closer to 1000. Most every person I know on my server that is considered to be a veteran is at least above rank 1000. It is only the pure roamers that are not. And while roamers get screwed (as usual) they play the way they do purely for enjoyment; more so than the zergs or commanders imo and fund themselves through other game modes or activities. If there is gear available to those committed to wvw, I would think the dedicated players who play the game as “intended” would deserve it, not just EotM K-trainers and commanders, don’t you think?
Your argument there is a bit of a strawman. Killing skritt/mining nodes in one region is not at all representative of pve. On the other hand, participating in zerg vs. zerg fights, capturing as well as defending points, scouting/callouts, running yaks/killing enemy yaks, building/manning siege and roaming/havocking is very representative of wvw. In fact, the only things I haven’t mentioned is commanding which is not something that everyone can do consistently.

I really dislike the myth people like you are spreading that you have to be an eotm-farmer or ppt-hero to be that rank. I have fought with many great guys who put a lot of work in the community and reached way higher ranks without beeing in eotm more than twice and i find that not fair to them. Further you keep ignoring that there are also t1 and t2 rewards for the guys you refer to. Im mostly a roamer myself btw.

Fact of the matter is; most people are not that rank and a good many of people never will be. Maybe there a few players out there who have put in the same or less time than myself and due to playing more efficiently, or being lucky and playing on a server with awesome and fast-paced commanders and have achieved rank 2000+. Sure, these players exist but they are certainly not the majority or even plurality.
That 2k rank requirement is not fair to the rest of us who have put in the same if not more effort, but are being told that we haven’t put in enough effort to achieve gear related to the only game mode we play. And for those of us significantly below rank 2000 who may happen to want that t3 armor we essentially would have to ppt or K-train in order to achieve the required rank in a reasonable amount of time.
Look, I have virtually no interest in that T3 armor. I’m not trying to argue that rank down just so I can get my grubby hands on it. I have plenty of ascended acessories; can craft any weapon I’ll need and can easily earn ascended armor through fractals/raids. What I have an issue with is just the very idea that Anet would dare to imply that us wvw veterans who have been in the game mode for 1+ years haven’t put in enough effort to be worthy of wvw armor.
On their part, it is NOT a fair decision which is likely due to them being out of touch with how trivial and unimportant wvw rank is and/or how difficult it is to rank up. What I’m arguing is that they should lower the rank requirement so that the vast majority of wvw veterans would be able to afford the armor given they have the required tickets/other currency.
This may also encourage newcomers since a lower rank requirement means they may actually be able to get some good gear but only after investing a large amout of time in wvw… not the 1-2+ years like it would take them currently.
It’s a single optional skin.
I think legendaries are a waste of time. I think getting to fractal 100 is a waste of time. If I didn’t play WvW I’d see it the same way.
There’s plenty of stuff to work for even before rank 2000 by far. But people have to fixate over that one thing. Why? Why not work on the other stuff first? I’m still going to be playing WvW anyways.
It’s what they don’t want. They don’t want people to just come in, grind and leave. Sure, many will do that anyways, but it’s more time to change their minds to play the content for the sake of playing it.
for there you have been and there you will long to return.
(edited by ArchonWing.9480)
i think they could lower the rank to like 1500 and be fine. high enough to be exclusive towards veterans.
The reason why most veteran wvwers dont want the rank requirement lowered is because of people like OP who want ez handouts cause they played a total of 360 hours in wvw over 5 years.
people who played back in the days obviously have much higher rank due to the fact that it wasnt much of ppt festival “dead” servers where alive and they where fighting.
i mean i played mostly thief obviously i cant rack up wxp like a guard which i played from time to time also and my rank just sky rocket what would take me hours on thief to achieve my guard did it in less then 2/3 big fights by just holding down 1 button..
the rank stuff makes no sense, if u base it on class making armors for high demand face roll classes high rank to get while “kitten” classes easy to get.
and thru WvW player shouldnt give a rats ass about darn armor/skin lol all i ever wanted in WvW was PvP so having or not having a skin was none of my interest ever.

Indeed it is. Also, the t2 armor is much more accessible. The problem I find, is that Anet would dare imply that someone who only plays one game mode for 1-3 years hasn’t put enough effort into that game mode to be at least capable of buying one piece of gear related to that game mode.
Being able to buy stat-selectable ascended armor without needing to craft it is pretty presitgious and rewarding but the limiting factor should be the currency which depends on ACTIVE participation….not wvw rank, which is not a very good indicator as to how much someone has contributed to their server. There does need to be a rank requirement since it obviously correlates at least somewhat with wvw participation which is the reward that veterans deserve to have but 2000 is too high.

T2 is also ascended no? And it would be more straightforward to craft anyways.
I don’t know. I think the prestiege item is the legendary. But I guess I place a low value on things like that. To me, the 2k armor is the equivalent of a t-shirt that says “I played WvW for 4 years and all I got was this lousy t-shirt!” and I don’t think that’s a bad thing specifically since anything that impacts the game, is found at t2 already. I just don’t see the stress over it.
I personally wouldn’t mind 1000 myself, as that’s when you max out all abilities, which seems like a landmark. It really depends on what they were aiming for.

Indeed it is. You also need to buy T2 in order to buy T3 so earning T3 is essentially just for a skin. Again, those who have passionate arguments about the rank requirement aren’t complaining about not having access to gear (since we have access to the T2 asc armor and asc armor from other game modes).
It’s more a matter of getting that “t-shirt” or just being able to have an emergency go-to if we suddenly need a piece of ascended gear without wanting to craft. After 1+ years in the game mode, I think a player deserves to have that and I think Anet would agree if they would revisit and scrutinize that 2k rank requirement.

T2 is ascended and has no rankrequirement. It just dont has LEDs. You can be happy now or keep spreading misinformation on purpose to get your will but your posts are flimsy as hell.
Stay strong Anet, don’t let the snowflakes wear you down!
