It’s a glimmer of hope for WvW, but it’s very imprecise in regards to what we should expect. They’ve been working for over a year on a “Major overhaul”. This implies that it’s going to be a huge change, bcause I doubt you would work a year on something as simple as a server merge when it was already done for PvE a long time ago.

Hopefully this “Major” update is a new scoring mechanic, a new reward system, and a new alliance-based server system that prevents the accumulation of empty maps.

Read the above again if you are in this thread to spread wild speculation and or stressing out over what this means .

Sorry what? The point of this forum is WvW discussion and I’m pretty sure speculating falls into that category when Anet tells us they’ve been working over a year on some WvW overhaul.

Until they have adequately provided a dialogue on how WvW is viewed and played beyond basic issues like coverage and stuff like that, I don’t really see this as meaning much.

Not saying this is good or bad, but I do not think such a statement is backed up by anything up to this point. But when things like autoloot don’t exist in WvW, what can you expect?

Well it could be some sort of alliance system whether it be server alliances or guild alliances. Its really the only remaining large magnitude change that could be made.

I’ll believe it when I see it. That’s the extent of my Thanksgiving goodwill on that topic. Communication on major features needs a step up and a step in a good direction.

This is almost as bad as the first person camera communication. What in the heck does the WvW team have to do with the team that would address legendary effects?

With that kind of blatant misdirection, I’m not so sure Colin shouldn’t be maining a Mesmer instead of an Engie.

I have a feeling they are going to add in mastory to wvw the type we see in pve. We may see gliders with bomb attks in wvw soon.
As for the bl i am guessing a bit of a drop for the shrine effects in the new maps and maybe some more fast paths to major objectives.
I like to see EotM comply removed from wvw and made into more of an open rvrvr map where you chose what side your on.

So I was thinking last night…..

What if .. what IF .. the big major overhaul was to put EU vs NA in one big, single, matchup tiers?

You keep the servers you’re on and NA vs EU scrap it out to get to the top.

NA will win in top tiers because of well, stackgate. But it could prove very interesting in the silver and bronze tiers.

And it could open up more competition between guilds.

The servers are seperate. As far is I understand we have a serverfarm in europe and one in the usa and it would bringt quite some issues to match them against each other; one of the first things being even more lag.

I am aware of this. Yet that was written before HoT. They had guilds testing the Desert Borderland, yet chose to ignore most the feedback and produce the BL that drove away so much of the WvW population. So you’ll forgive me that I don’t have much faith in Anet recognizing and dealing with the problem.

Bribing people to play would at least get more people learning the map, its routes, and its strategies which would mean fewer people getting frustrated by getting lost or going the long way around. That would be helpful.

My frustration with WvW changes primarily has to do with what seems to be a lack of WvW mentality and understanding on ANet’s part.

The new borderlands are really beautiful. Edge of the Mists was a great concept. The major downfall of both maps is that they feel more like PvE. I understand that WvW is kind of a blend between PvE and PvP. I kinda like to think of it as hostile PvE.

The problem right now is that the borderlands are so hostile and difficult to navigate from a PvE perspective, that it makes it difficult to play the PvP aspect of WvW. The maps are too large, the barriers and major elevation changes are too restrictive for movement, and the keeps are too complex to really add that PvP feel to it. Many people are not really “unhappy” with the borderlands when I have actively partaken in, or listened to, their conversations in concern to the borderland changes. I feel the same way. The lack of people on the map is a kind of self-feeding cycle of “I don’t want to go because there is no one there, which means that I am not there so other people don’t want to go either”.

Perhaps reducing or removing the large elevation changes, or adding less dangerous manners more frequently placed manners to navigate these elevated terrain changes. Reducing the active internal keep area so it is more interactive. Mesmer hiding is a kind of art, and there is a lot of fun in the chase. I have mained Mesmer since 2005, and I love the changes to Mesmer. The borderland maps have completely removed that fun in the chase when hiding in a keep. No one is going to find me because the keep is too large to even begin to look.

Garrison and the portion between Garrison and the northern towers is highly restrictive for movement. It seems this is the common theme of the borderlands is the focus on restriction of movement. However, people like zergs, people want to fight, and people cannot easily get to each other in an open area to do so. Tower defence is fun, but by the time you make the run from Garrison to SE tower, it has flipped and the enemies are long gone. The east and west keeps seems to rarely have active waypoints (at least for my server(s)), so it becomes a battle less focused on interaction with players, and more focused on “how do I jump up on that thing so I can keep moving south?”

Edge of the Mists was fun when it came out. It’s also a beautiful map, but two major downfalls are the size and dangerous nature of the map. As such, people do not really PvP there, and instead focus on just running in a circle to karma and XP farm. This kinda seems to defeat the purpose of a PvP map, and it is another example of ANet perhaps missing the point of WvW from a player’s perspective.

I don’t know what these major upcoming changes are going to be, but I would suggest that the maps start to move more towards a PvP focus, and less of a focus on trying to figure out how to not fall or being able to quickly climb a 90 degree incline.

If I had 100 people vs 100 people in the main keep on those BL maps, split into several objectives that have to all be held at the same time, with the current design for the keep, it would make for an awesome fight- tactics, splits, big battles (just fix the long run back for defeated players).

As it is, 5 people against one random doesn’t make for much in the way of fun.

I’ve worked out what the major overhaul is…‘adventures’ are coming to wvw!

Yes, you will be forced to complete an adventure before being able to exit the entrance to wvw. All your skills will be removed, and you will now have to complete timed adventures before getting your masteries back, which will be unlocked by such simple tasks as capping SM 10000 times (counter reset to zero).

PVE events will trigger on the new replacement map for EB every 5 minutes, which will be twice as big and full of height changes for no other reason than they can put them in- oh and ledges and bridges everywhere to promote the use of fearbots.

in all seriousness, map designs are moving very similar to EoTM style maps, and I don’t think they understand that players that play WvW “full time” are in most cases not the same people that play EoTM’s, to make everyone happy they need to seperate as many similarities between WvW and EoTM’s as possible, when it comes to map design, we see them as 2 different game modes. EoTM is one big K-train (i know it was intended as a solution for queues), while WvW is primarily (excluding a few servers), used as battlefields. EoTM is for rewards/karma/WXP and WvW is for winning can be winning fights or MU’s. It’s starting to feel as though any things being added to WvW now (just like the new maps), should belong to EoTM not WvW.

New maps look beautiful, and they should be very proud of them, but they don’t belong in WvW. Personally I would place them (with a little tweak) into an EoTM rotation and give WvW alpine maps back 25% larger than before with the sentry effect, old waypoint and upgrade system.

I totaly agree with you on this.
Most WvW people now are not playing gw2 (taking break till old map comes back) or are only in eb.

Anet give us our old borerland maps back, make them a little bit bigger and old upgrade system back.
And maybe try to ad the combat style that the guards have in eotm, its looks more realistic.
Don’t give us a map that looks like a pve map (we mostly don’t play that crap).
We love WvW what it was, so dont sqrew it up for us.

I disagree here. Most of the wvw players are in HoT even though they most likely hate it or would rather get the same stuff by doing wvw. HoT is so huge and anet has made it so that you need to go there to get the things you need. yes you can get the hero points in wvw but if no one is going there……yeah. Yes some have left and went to do other stuff but that will not get you the new class stuff.

Imo opinion this is what happens when you spend the bulk of your time catering to one particular player, pve, and leave the hard core wvw players out. Now that being said I love the new maps myself but I think they should have made it a bit easier to get the hero points and the map not as big. Second they should have WAITED. You launched a huge, even though I hate pve, an awesome pve overhaul, and then just gave the bl’s a new look for the most part. Big no no here imo. Should have kept old maps and then when HoT launched then revisit bl changes to see if they would appeal to folks. With HoT taking so long to finish or even get the things you want….leaves the bl’s baron.

So yes some players left but most players who enjoy the game and wvw especially like me are still slaving away in the HoT to get stuff. I say they should have made it possible to get everythiong that yu can get from pve and raids in wvw and no one would have left. Just my 2 cents though. Ill still be in my wvw bl fighting the good fight…1 vs 10 lol but I will be there. I can only stand the pve in HoT for about 30 minutes then I get bored. Hopefully the changes will be better……….

It is PAINFUL that ANET can’t make the simple changes that would get people into W3. Even if they’re all PVE carebears at least we (as vets) would have some scrubs to farm.

#1. Rewards: Put the rewards on par with PVE rewards. Example take fortified SM get champ bag, chest and bonus chest for fortified status.

#2. How bout making Guild hall upgrades related to W3 attainable through playing W3. Why the kitten must i farm PVE for W3 upgrades? It’s dumb there’s like 2-3 examples of PVERS having to come to W3 for their upgrades (EOTM gets it done anyway) why must we carebear to get our upgrades? lvl 37 guild status for +5 supply is insane.

#3. Bring the urgency of the next tick back by giving rewards for each tick. It’s simple just like Mag maps. Were you around for the tick? how much did you contribute to our tick? Here’s your relative reward.

#4. Buff players drops nerf PVE all together. Less mobs, less gimmicks (laser that unloads on all gates really?), Buff defense rewards to slow the ktrain EOTM feel, bring back PPK as part of the score. Get rewarded more for being good at PvP and less for being a pug peasant ktrainer.

#5. Nerf siege into the ground and eliminate some of the in-keep stationary siege that has zero skill like cannons and mortars. 2k burning ticks from some casual 5k distance away from you on a mokittenoes not encourage good play. 10 stack bleed on 3k damage cannon shot is waaay too much damage when you’re already power creeping like a boss with new xpac.

There is this misconception among the devs that W3 players are also big time into PVE. It’s not the case W3 is endgame for many players just like PvP. They might have a leg to stand on if there wasn’t dozens of other pve maps and scores of other PVE gamemodes for people that are into PVE.
