Thx A-net for giving us lag from hell thx to leagues n what not.

Patience is running out rapidly, and A-net is really pushing the wvw community to it’s limits.

Sort leagues a bit better so that the PvE’ers can do their achievements outside of wvw if that’s what they desire cause as it is now. The game is rapidly goin downhill!

For first you get skill lag.
For second you get movement lag.
For third you get chat lag.
For the rest you get salvaging and selling lag. No need to mention the trading post. Then you start seeing game characters disappearing for moments.
Finally your client either gets diconnected or crashed.

Not in just WvW.

Dear developers. I would not want to offend or upset you … but … You are aiming to increase the popularity of WvW, right? By adding this season and achievements, you definitely attracted a lot of players to WvW. However, another question. Why?! Omg, WHY is this needed? Servers with difficulty held it even before. You think people do not go to WvW because of the lack of awards? They do not go because of 10 sec lags and queues for 2hrs. And you just made it worse. Why do you lure more players on WvW, if your servers is not designed for such quantities? Wait for 1.5 hours in order to see the lag for 2 minutes and teleporting players around, inability to use skills in a more or less serious battle… well … Perhaps you should start from the other side? I do not know … Anything. Increase the capacity of servers? Design a better system of queues and distribution. Limit the maximum number of players, at worst. Let people whine, let them complain though, but force them uniformly occupy the different servers. A N Y T H I N G.
For now everything is terrible.
Literally whole guild got crash from WvW drowning in the two-minute lag. It is no longer request, but a cry from the heart.

it just cannot be that Anet really wants to destroy wvw now? we had already full maps to begin with and skill lagg without a end for no reason… but NOW the Regular people who ACTUALLY WANT TO PLAY wvw cant do it anymore, because 200 pve guys who care not 1 bit about wvw fill the maps.. they wont listen to commanders who put up with them..
Really anet, how would YOU feel if YOU have to wait 2-4 hours to finally join a map, where you only find a zerg with like 20 people BUT the map is full?? this is the worst outcome of this " league idea " ever

I would like to know what percentage of WvW players are so called ‘hardcore’ and played from the beginning vs other players that ended up playing for different reasons. I got into WvW after looking into crafting legendary items (8 months ago) and finding out you needed badges of honor and have not looked back since (now heading toward level 270). When I run around PvE maps the numbers are not huge by any means unless new content has been introduced, in fact it’s not uncommon to come across only one or two other players on a map which lead me to believe PvE had died to a certain extent.

I can’t speak for any of the other tiers, but I know at T1 (or whatever you want to call it now) Blackgate, Sanctum, and Jade Quarry, the WvW lag has become ungodly awful in regards to skill lag.

Fight’s are a complete joke as nothing is reliable as to when it will even go off. There entire fights where no one is able to heal.

I don’t know if Anet is looking into it or what, but the lag is essentially ruining WvW.

Any other tiers having this problem? I know it’s not me, because it’s become the primary conversation topic in the wvw channels.

It used to be in big fight areas only, like fighting for SM in Eternal. But since the last patch it’s everywhere, all the time. Even small fights of 2 v 2 the lag is omnipresent.

Its same in the EU tier 1 as well, sometimes you can’t use your skills for upto 30 secs…whenever you come near a 3 blob fight its like getting close to a black hole, time slows and lag increases.

I absolutely do not mind inexperienced players or achiev hunters. Just let the developers fix skill delays, lags and queues for the whole evening. No matter how skilled player – in 10n second delays all your skill – it’s round running and poking buttons by guess

Everything is breaking. LA lagging, I was spvping that started lagging. My entire guild roster disappeared for me and everybody from votf online.

Anet has the best servers ever.

I have noticed some strange lag in SPVP and LA as well. But nothing like WvW.

We don’t need to make mandatory gear treadmills, we make all of it optional

magically, all latency and queue issues disappear overnight!

What would your response be when everyone quits and your server is still a ghost town?

A-net has clearly oversold their capacity. It’s like packing 150 people on an airplane that seats 100. No one gets what they paid for and everyone is annoyed. Why is it that people want to blame others who paid $22 to transfer to a tier 1 server? A-net offered the transfer, took the money and did not provide the advertised service. What could be clearer?

Making seasons is fine and well, but if actual gameplay is complete garbage because people keep warping around, your skills either dont activate, glitch midway(esp movement skills) or decide to activate 3 seconds later…….. that’s not a real player versus player experience.

And believe me , I am most definitly not running this game on a cheapass toaster. You can see a cloud of lag taking over EVERY day starting 30 minutes before reset to at least a few hours after. SM on a 3way fight is still a disaster. there’s either a server-side CPU issue or a band capacity issue at work here, but whatever it is, until it’s fixed wuvwuv will still be a complete joke.

Server load may have increased a bit because it is tracking and updating everyone’s achievement in real time for every person on the map.. although it would surprise me that it loads the servers that much because there isn’t a lot of calculations to do. It surely must have some other causes too.. maybe some hidden tracking or something..

I’ve had the game slowing to a crawl before, particularly in WvW, but I’ve never experienced not being able to fire off one particular skill when all the others are working fine. Ground targeting AOE skills are what seems to be being most severely affected.

i was on BG, and transferred off to CD in May because of the skill lag, not firing, and even spawning back took few minutes… the servers just couldn’t handle big fight.

that’s why i’m saying it’s not new…..

i sense all these servers are in VMs, and their resource are all fully utilized, that’s why we’re experiencing skill lag….

What anet really needs to do is to host the EU servers in EU over another carrier that isnt level3. This will reduce the huge amount of traffic that has to be dilvered to the US over the obviously too small peering connections level3 has.

A positive sideeffect would be that we wont have to suffer from PvDoor knights anymore.

The problem cannot be solved easily and it is neither a network nor a computing performance issue.

If it were one of both simply upgrades could solve it. And computing and network power can be increased on demand these days. Would be no biggie.

A solution requires a rewrite of the client/server communication and the relevant processing of events in regards to these. It just doesn’t scale and gets exponentially worse with the positioning information about other players received by your client (simple version).

Movement seems not be affected as your client keeps showing your movement even if it cannot sync with the server (you see this on disconnects). Syncs for movement do not happen all the time. This workaround covers the issue most time in PvE (probably was introduced for the shortcomings of the “engine” at some stage during development). But if you are running for example in AoE fields of an enemy it will require a sync (your client requests it). It is more forgiving in PvE for obvious reasons.

All that can be deducted from just watching what is happening in the game. If you have some background in creating scalable systems, you know what is wrong.

It is always this bad when all three parties have full maps and move a lot.

The problem itself is triggered mostly by movement skills. In fact a coordinated small group about 10-20 people can trigger it for the whole map to a certain extent. It is a known pain train tactic, when you can control it (meaning maps not full) but very rarely used these days. No one would do a GvG with you anymore.

It probably can be compensated a bit, but don’t hold your breath for it being fixed in a timely fashion.

PvE and to some extent PvP showing the same problem. But in WvW more people move way more, making the problem even worse.

Technically it would be no problem to have 100K of players on a map not showing a single noticeable skill lag (not talking lag in rendering though). It could be as smooth as when you are alone on a map all the time.

Yes, I have a background in creating systems dealing with an enourmous amount of real-time transactions where any lag costs real money. Applying the proper way to do it on an MMO is rather trivial.

But to be fair here: this is knowledge you usually do not have in a game development team. And changing an already existing system is a complex and time consuming task again requires specialsts. But it is possible.

I am sure Anet tries the best they can do with their resources. But the only solution in the long run is rewriting this part, for which you need funding. And people knowing how to create such a “system” are really expensive and hard to come by.

Probably a compromise can be made reducing the lag at leasts to a bearable amount for the current map cap.

In the mean time, just finish more opponents and have fun!

Some time ago, regarding a feature of the game requested by players, a Dev said something like “we don’t want to release something if we’re not sure it’s made carefully”. Quite a bold statement after seeing the mess of these days.

- Why trying to bring more people in maps that can’t contain them? It was obvious the queues would have been insane, not everyone can play 5 hours per day while waiting a 2 hour que (and for the brilliant pre-made answers: i’m actually on a rank 14 server, not on a T1)

- “We’re working on queue issues and we’ll bring a new map”: ok nice, maybe it was better to work on that first?

- Insane skil lag: is it a a server problem? did anet broke something on last patch? is it only related to the increased number of players in www? Well, as a customer, i’m not obliged to care about the reason. The only presence of that amount of skill lag and rubberbanding after 2 hours que is absurd.

- All complaint topics on forums deleted (and now merged in a blobtopic) just to try and hide the discomfort of customer: quite a nasty choice. The dev tracker is demoralizing, not even a “we’re checking on it”.

When you work kitten happens, that’s true. But I think everyone of us who’s a professional in their work would agree on what would be done.
- check
- analyze
- officially reassure the customers if the problem is real
- work on it as fast as possible
- next time be more careful before releasing something (as that Dev said “theorically”)

Cannot be killed with hardware. The number or variables and compexlity of calculations is laughable low for today’s average computing power.

Problem is that how stuff is processed it does not really scale. It’s not like the server is overloaded. If that’s the case it would be an easy fix and would have been done. Tell your infrastructure service provide to provide more computing power. That’s it.

What is the skill lag acutally?

You are waiting for the result of something else before you can get your result. And this does not scale with 3 × 100 players on a map as they more or less affect everyone. Most visible: Big 3-way blob fight in Stonemist.

The engine simply was not written for massive multiplayer online in a WvW sense. In PvE this can be covered up nicely in a lot of places. But with large scale PvP like a zerg fight on a small map space it does not work anymore…

A soltution requires an engine change in client/server communication. Time consuming, expensive and not easy. Not going to happen.

We might see some enhancements though to make the problem more bearable.

And the problem can be caused on demand by 10-20 players already if they are forcing it to a certain extent. This is how bad it is…

Yes, it is issue #1 for WvW IMHO.. But WvW is not really a priority in GW2. It was not designed for it and now it is too late without some serious investment in man hours.

But I am sure the Anet devs will do what they can with what they have now… Finger crossed. I am sure they try their best.

The other realm is suffering the same issues. Is it annoying? Yes, but everyone is in the same pot together. They have to deal with it in the same way. So some of the old, Banner Rezz theories may have to be reworked, making defense more desperate from the git go, response may need to be better or (in our case last night) you have to keep scouts in keeps to give alarm (which is what we failed to do).

Adapt, till things smooth out.
