Some people should read before overreacting

Now here is the contradiction from Anet. This paragraph clearly states.

“Rewards”

“Finally, I want to explain the new system of rewards we are putting in place. At the end of the tournament, everyone who has completed the meta achievement will be given a chest containing WvW Tournament tickets. You’ll also receive a unique title, and players in the top three worlds of each league will receive a limited-use dolyak trophy finisher.” (This doesnt state how many tickets)

Then in the next paragraph it specifically states that world rank 1-9 get tickets and implies only 1-9 get tickets.

Funny how most of the responses are that not everyone or every server should get a Mistforged Weapon so quickly. You know what, why not make it more exclusive? 300 tickets for the top server of each league and 200 tickets and decreasing for the rest of the league. Hey, it’s just like you guys said, not everyone deserves it, am I right?

A very good point. Why is it OK to exclude the bottom half of the league and not the #2 ranked server and lower?

Exactly. It’s pretty visible on this thread the difference between people who are on servers who are pretty much guaranteed to get a Mistforged weapon versus those who are on servers who are pretty much guaranteed to not get one.

As I am on the rank 15 server (very bottom) of Silver, it’s pretty much guaranteed that I won’t get one. What’s funny is the rank 16 server (top of Bronze) is guaranteed to get far better rewards than the rank 15 server.

none of it matters. weapon skins can be easily acquired thru multiple paths. achievements can be karma trained. 250k players can be farmed by a no skill on an arrowcart, and wxp can be bought with laurels and badges.
the one and only thing that does matter in this game is your name. toss the tournament skins in the trash and be known for leading raids, guarding a tower or scouting zergs for endless hours, not some skin waved around in lions arch.

Well said. Someone who understands PvP.

Everything else is just QQ. Why should the game reward the loser equally to the winner? If everyone gets a trophy, it’s not really a tournament anymore.

Yes. That’s why Anet is completely redesigning their SPVP reward structure such that you’re always making progress towards big rewards whether one wins or loses.

Here’s how I think it should be:
1. Weekly achievement for contributing in your match-up
2. You get some number of tickets each week you complete it

This way people on all servers can get the same number of tickets, and it (sort of ) scales with how much you participated. This also would help spread the population out over the nine weeks, instead of people just playing for 1 or 2 weeks and then not playing anymore.

If the reward was for skill (rewarding those who play the best) or effort (those who spend the most time playing), then this would be a good point, but that’s not what’s being rewarded, particularly in the lower tiers. What’s being rewarded is having the most people and most coverage (even in Gold, there are servers that will never win because of this).

How about we only reward the top server and give nothing to all of the other servers? Are all the “only winners should be rewarded” in board with that and, if not, why not? If you really think only winners should be rewarded, then let’s limit the rewards only to the winners, no matter how it is they win. Heck, why not only reward the winning Gold server?

Let’s just be perfectly clear on one thing. Acting like the “winners” deserve a better reward than the “losers” of this tournament is BS. I would be the first guy to argue that the winners of a competition held on roughly equal terms deserve better rewards but not in this joke of a system. The “winners” are the servers with the largest populations and best coverage….the ones who have attracted the most bandwagoners….and in many ways could be argued had to work the least for their final rewards. It’s a joke and anyone who has the notion of doing any chest thumping over this is clown.

Hey congratulations, you won the Super Bowl but yea the other teams you faced in the playoffs only got to start 4 players in the second half of each game but by gosh you won!!!

And only 2-4 of the other teams you played all season were professional NFL teams. The rest were college and high school teams, after you poached all of their best players.

Everyone has opportunity to transfer to server with high chance of winning tournament. People with business acumen did it before the sale ended.

Now you will have to pay a lot of gem if you want the Mistforged weapons so badly. I took a look at the skins and they aren’t that impressive but if you want the skin so much then come on over to Seafarer’s Rest or any other of the winning servers. If not, then you still get some consolation prize 200 tickets to the loser servers.

So, the reward is for “business acumen”, now? Can ANet add a WXP mastery for that, since it’s such a critical part of WvW play? Maybe each level could reduce the gem cost or transferring to a top-of-tier server and with 5 levels, you could transfer to a Full server.

I think that’s kind of the sad part though.

If you wanted to be one of the ones that stuck it out and be loyal to your low tier, low population server, trying to command whoever you can get your hands on and hoping people know how to operate siege, you get punished. But if you transfer up, spend time fighting mobs and gathering resources, tagging along with whatever zerg happens to be nearby without ever stepping foot in their VOIP channel, and let everyone else do the work, you get rewarded.

But it is what it is.

I just hope the frequency of the seasons is high enough so that people don’t have to wait over a year to wait and wait and wait for more tickets.

Maybe a statue or plaque in Lion’s Arch (or whatever the hub city is now) that displays a list of season champions, or add those server names to the lore/game dialogue… basically, something that places emphasis on server pride and encourages players to be emotionally invested in their chosen homes as the game evolves.

Right now, it’s just a mad dash of transfers in search of shineys. Or a cash grab, depending on your point of view.

And most players asking for a better reward for winning server of S1 wanted just that, something to show they won, a statue in their LA was something mentioned. Few really asked for better rewards over the other servers (though many complained they got worst rewards than others); most know they won by coverage, though some really put big effort to pull extended shifts in close MU and were disgusted at getting lower rewards than servers below.
The same is pretty much now happening, Servers that tanked (from EU gold to EU silver) will have a better reward than server that didn’t…

But we can also say that this is part of server play… so…

Even at 9th position, whith many guilds stating they would leave if we stayed gold, they decided to stay, because of the community.
We might get at the point of jumping to each other throats before the season ends, but, in the end, the community made it so we lost few players to other servers, despite knowing our reward would be lower.

We don’t expect to come any close to winning a single MU in all the tournament… but we decided to try and have fun nevertheless…

Game is designed to have fun. If a skin is more fun for someone than it’s community… What can we do?
