It seems based on populations that almost everyone would win with 4 leagues in NA.

Diamond – BG/JQ/SoR
Gold – TC/Mag/SoS/FA/SBI/YB
Silver – DB, BP, Ebay, CD, NSP, HoD
Bronze – IoJ, SF, DH, FC, GoM, DR, KN, ET, AR

Under current system:

Nobody can compete with the top 3 so if they want to stack themselves, fine, just don’t make us other servers fight them. Maybe the monotony of being isolated in top tier will help disenchant some players with tier 1.

The bottom 3 of gold can’t compete for 1st, 2nd, or 3rd, while the top 3 of silver don’t have any real competition. Match these 6 servers together and you’ll have some fantastic fights.

Removing the top 3 from silver league would leave a highly competitive league.

Bronze league is already awesome and competitive. I switched HoD with IoJ because I believe HoD is stronger now. That could change but in the off-season we should have matches that cross those league borders to ensure we have the rankings right going into season 2.

Honestly? That looks like an amazing set up!

Gold would be ridiculous. TC would most likely take it but the other servers would be fairly evenly matched from what I’ve heard. Yaks would get worked though. They keep fighting however, so some guilds may move around to fill out coverage spots and de-stack a bit.

DB still might win just through them being on entirely different schedules than most, but Silver looks solid.

Bronze looks good as well, really depends on how IoJ ends up. They could either be stomping everyone or being competitive.

I would suggest a shorter season though. Perhaps 3 weeks? I’m not sure what the optimum amount of matches are though.

This was the obvious choice but the powers that be decided that variety was important.

Here we go, season 1 the season of variety. Because the names on top of the zerg that tramples over you really matters.

IMO, Yes facing 4,5,6 can be fun. There are some great guilds on those servers that are ton of fun to fight against but do I want to fight them all the time? No. As for fighting T1 servers, I think most to all T1 players look forward to the SoR/BG/JQ matches but if that was the only servers in the “Diamond” league, why have leagues at all. It seems it would be better to go back to the original ladder and allow for T1 server to drop down and T2 servers to jump up every so often based off rating. That way it limits blowouts and keeps tiers competitive, out side of server wide implosion, servers would fight server they are semi equal to.

Personally I don’t want another season. The amount of garbage and drama is caused doesn’t seem worth it. Its a good idea but badly implemented do to population of the servers.

Just stack the rest of the servers.

People keep asking to have the servers split, I disagree, my idea is better than theirs.

At this point all we can do is hope Anet at least has the presence of mind to NOT hold season 2 until all the glaring problems plaguing WvW in general are fixed.

That’s probably in like 5 year’s time minimum so it works out nicely. Variety is a nice thing only when 99% of the matches aren’t rubbish.

You all do realise that players requested something like this? It was pointed out many times why leagues and matches against servers in a different tier wouldn’t work but players keept going on about how boring it is in the current tier and wanted to fight someone different.

Players asked for this. Maybe not in this particular format but regardless of the format, it won’t work with population differences.

Be careful of what you ask for, developers always put in something simlar but not what you envisioned.

I’m on CD, when we face huge servers the week is terrible. Don’t get me wrong, we love fights and all that, but when it’s a constant 5:1 ratio and everything you see is a mega blob it’s just ridiculous. I don’t blame the larger server either, they’re just looking to kill stuff so they see red and they swarm. The best fights we’ve ever had are against servers with the closer pops. Zerg fights are amazing, roaming parties are amazing, all around the match up is amazing. I’d much rather have the leagues be smaller but have the closer matched servers against each other (like the you originally outlined)

This was a good example of how wvw should be, up until about the last day this matchup was insane and too close to call. Anyone who took part in this matchup can vouch, it was amazing.

Not liking bronze. As a fellow FCer I had very little fun last week because SF outnumbered us 3:1 at our best time. I’m not enjoying this week either because we’re doing the same to them. Next week will likely turn into the same thing the first couple weeks were like where it’s fun until one server gives up half way through the week and it turns into a 1 on 1 fight where, again… FC can’t hold out due to lack of numbers. Just like we saw the first 2 weeks.

This whole WvW league thing is a bust and I’d prefer never doing it again honestly. There are simply too many issues and ANet isn’t the least bit interested in resolving any of them. If you play on the top 3 you’re having fun. Bottom 3? What I’d give for some consistency from 1 week to the next.

This is so win that words do not even describe. Diamond league would probably get pretty stale, but at least there’d be competition. Bronze is having a blast. It seems to me that FA/SBI are the primary cause of silver being so lopsided, so getting those two into a dif bracket sounds like a great idea.

I’m having a lot of fun facing T1 (from T2). But if server competitiveness is any priority then the current system is meaningless. There are also little things like how TC isn’t really T1 or T2 (compared to all the other T1 and T2 servers). And from the looks of it, BG is way ahead of SoR in terms of coverage/population.

It would end up being ‘more’ competitive but still not really competitive. It’s good that PPT isn’t what makes WvW fun.

Also is there any matchup NA that wasn’t decided within 3 days?

if we had this system in place with a reset every 3’ish days I think most people would have a much more awesome time.

Have you ever ask why Major professional sports leagues in the United States (NFL, NBA, MLB, and NHL), they don’t form any championship with the top/best 4 teams for the long season?

Can you imagine FIFA (Fédération Internationale de Football Association) organize the World Cup of football (soccer for NA), only restricted to the 4 top national teams (ex: Brazil, Germany, Spain, Argentina), and denied the tournament extended to 32 national teams?

I could go one with the Olympic Games or Car Racing’s and still you won’t find similar what you propose, because a tournament is not only about win, the competition and diversity of the opponnents will provide experience, entertainment for many and the share of knowledge between all envolved.

That is an illogical comparison. If, IF, they locked it down to where only 40 people from each server could enter at the same time, then maybe it would make sense to have David to fight Goliath (that was a 1v1 fight).

SF fight sucked because GoM was too scared to fight them so we got 2v1’ed all week in EB. I Don’t think we got more than 1-2 upgrades on anything in EB all week except our keep which also flipped daily.

If it was DH or HoD or someone else with us and SF we would have had a very close match. I mean look at 6 weeks ago FC/DH/SF that was freakin epic 3-way too-close-to-call match all week. Then look at week 2 league the closest match of all freakin time.

I don’t know who you are but if you didn’t enjoy those matches then nothing will ever please you.

No thanks. YB has a generally bad WvW pop and would get dominated. SBI is 100% pure bandwagon and is even worse; as is they’re free bags. SoS, unless things have magically changed, have 4-5 total people during NA and are only highly ranked because of broken night coverage. FA and TC would be the only fun servers to fight, but TC would probably win coverage wars. Sounds awful.

Also there aren’t any good GvG guilds on any of those servers, barring FA and TC, so it would be awful.

I’m on Yak’s Bend, which entered the season as T4, but has since jumped up to T3. We are in a bad spot, relatively speaking, since we could be considered stacked against any servers T4 or lower (based on the league so far battling EB, BP and DB), but would get crushed by the other T3 servers (FA and SBI) or anyone higher. Every match so far in the league, we either won (or are winning) or lost by 100k+.

However, if you are talking about more than just playing for PPT, then I am having fun regardless of the score. Though we do get poorer turnout during the blowout losses vs. the blowout wins, so putting us against all T2/T3 servers would severely impact our morale.

My opinion remains the same, don’t agree with OP, however much respect for the attempt. WvW League should have the same division:
NA = 6/9/9
EU = 9/9/9

Do you think Arena Net WvW developers / coordinators / designers come to those numbers randomly? No, I believe they study and balance as much they can. Players need to win who “bandwagon” for the top servers, contribute for imbalance. None faults, it’s the way it is and maybe for the Season 2, Anet will bring something to stop those massive transferred.

I do not approve old “glicko system” where it was possible 3 servers matchup along months (personally experienced this while I was at Borlis Pass, when BP face Ehmry Bay + Anvil Rock, for 14 weeks straight), and now can’t say yes to a similar system for T1 servers = only 3 way for 7 weeks or so.

About the David and Goliath example, I explained my idea with fair examples, never wrote “you are wanting diamond to face bronze?”, that’s going beyond my comprehension, however understanding everyone can give his/her opinion, just like me, even if you thought is wrong…

The issue is, outside of the top 3 T1 servers, the balance between all the rest of the servers is out of whack to some degree or another. It goes beyond simple population. The difference between 2 equal population servers, where one server is mostly large WvW oriented guilds, and the second server is mostly PvE players who occasionally WvW is huge. Add in time zone coverages etc and really outside of the top 3 it quickly breaks down
There is no difference in mag getting beat up in the existing tiers and yaks getting stomped in your proposed 6
What needs to be worked on is incetives/fun for the mostly unbalanced match ups that will always exist.

if it were separated by my OP method, the rating gap from top to bottom of each league would be (based on current leaderboards):

diamond – 104
gold – 331
silver – 237
bronze – 230

under the current system the rating gaps are:

gold – 379
silver – 416
bronze – 230

Current average gap = 342
Proposed average = 225

in other words, a 34% reduction in the gap. If you take bronze out of the equation since it didn’t change, it’s actually a 44% reduction of the gap for gold and silver.

Servers shouldn’t be sorted by rank, they should be sorted by “weight class” which should be based on average wvw population. Your class could change based on week to week.

Main problem is everyone needs to fight even if they don’t fit anywhere. Too bad wvw can’t have fatal fourways and one on ones.

WULD ensures blowouts on a consistent basis given the current server strengths, this has been discussed ad nauseam.

The sad thing about this is that probably everyone in the top 6 would have been able to put together those brackets before leagues started. It’s ok, hopefully ANET gathered enough data this time around.

If we use BG’s logic and only look at the last match with BG/SoR/JQ together, this would be unfair to JQ since BG/SoR did a 2v1 in the last match.

Not going to happen, what would happen is, the 3 top tier realms would lose players/guilds to the middle six. Playing the same two realms over and over and over and over and over and over and over for a 7 week season would be painful.

Imagine, 6 of the strongest guilds leave BG and move to SoS once this kind of schedule is announced…

As a person on YB, no, I wouldn’t really like to come in last in the league.

At least in the current silver league we have a chance of placing in the top3. We’d be 6th and that’s it under this layout. That may sound selfish but how many posters are in this thread and on TC saying how great of an idea this is because they’d win?

Invariably, the entire system is flawed from the top to the bottom. The same servers win every week and the same servers lose.

I just hope that the only difference in seasonal rewards is the finishing move. Otherwise this terribly flawed league will have it’s final nail in the coffin.
