Meant to combat overflow but is not exclusively for overflows players. Unfortunately, it won’t have an impact on your server score. Think of it as a place to do WvW activities and a beta.
Now I remember one of the WvW devs saying there will be no content updates for WvW during seasons, so don’t expect it anytime soon.

Nice find Vol.
I’ll leave this quote that i consider a excelent progress from ANet!
Surprisingly, there isn’t going to be an NDA on this new borderland making this one of the first publicly collaborative endeavours that ArenaNet have done.
Most servers can’t fill four maps, why do we need a fifth?
I’m excited about new terrain and possibly new objectives or gameplay, but populations are too sparse already, this will make that problem worse.
nice!
Most servers can’t fill four maps, why do we need a fifth?
Because there are servers with queues to fill eight :p
This sounds very interesting. Now you can actually play even if all the maps are queued, and you have the ability to test new changes to the game while being able to provide feedback. I wonder how they determine which guilds will have access to this though.
Hope there’s an option for non queued servers to try out the new map. I don’t think that T1 should be the only opinion heard. Would be better if you randomly got assigned a color when your guild entered the map.
Holy cow, finally!!
Also, I agree, I hope that we can get to this map without having to force an overflow situation.
However….it finally seems at least some people over at anet are getting things right and moving in the right direction finally….awesome….good changes keep’em coming!
This sounds very interesting. Now you can actually play even if all the maps are queued, and you have the ability to test new changes to the game while being able to provide feedback. I wonder how you can be one of the so-called ‘accepted guilds’ though.
Unless they are going to have an access point just for this map for accepted guilds I would think one of the criteria would be you are on a T1 server.
I like the idea, just think it would have been nice to have it in place today for start of the leagues and that they werent restricting it to certain guilds. Why would any WvWvW guild want to be in overflow? Even a guild fielding 50 people would want to be in main WvWvW, so assuming some don’t get in at reset or whatever when there are big queues there might only ever be a handful of players in the new map?
Doesnt add up to me, maybe someone will explain it and when it will be available.

Guess this might be the map?
Another thing – in practice, how often are all maps queued – does this mean that if you queue for EB and it is full you could get put in to the Edge of the Mists when the actual BL maps aren’t full?
More details please Anet.

Yeah this is something that they would have to consider, especially when it’s hard to get into an overflow outside of prime-time/reset night.
Interesting …
My concern is that people might queue for EB and go to this map instead of trying a border map first.
Also, will the three sides on this map still be home-world based/set on the current match-up? In a match-up with one highly populated server against lower servers they could well end up with nobody from the other sides on. If it’s not homeworld based, will I still be able to get a party of friends together?
And what if the overflow overflows? I guess if it’s not homeworld based you would have people from the same server in different overflows.

Now that you mention, if this is only available to those who are in higher tiers, then if the new borderland is fun enough, we will witness another mass exodus from those servers who are already with their WvW community hanged by a thread…

While it does have all the different types of landscapes, that image has been around for quite some time.
There was a datamined map image on reddit a few days ago of a new map. Speculation was that it was for GvG, but it could be for this. We know they have been working on it internally.
Most servers can’t fill four maps, why do we need a fifth?
Because there are servers with queues to fill eight :p
Maybe three servers with a 5-10 min queue on the least populated map that only takes place for a few hours a week? T1 people are boasting in recruitment threads that queues aren’t that long and rare for borderlands maps. People are writing posts on reddit about leaving low ranked servers (http://www.reddit.com/r/Guildwars2/comments/1oov9v/moving_to_a_larger_server_experiences/) filled with anecdotes from players about how they abandoned their old server for a T1 because of population problems.
They talk about not wanting to expand PvE too quickly because it disperses the players too much, not wanting to add too many new PvP modes because it disperses players too much. Additional maps (on top of the existing ones) is creating this exact problem for WvW.
Hope there’s an option for non queued servers to try out the new map. I don’t think that T1 should be the only opinion heard. Would be better if you randomly got assigned a color when your guild entered the map.

No need to push something that will not be true. You would be crazy to think they would restrict content to specific servers. This is how rumors start and people get all angry over nothing.
Great. An entire map developed for one tier. I guess we know where the priorities lie now.
Also, more stacking of T1 while the other tiers die off.
So they are finally launching the beta for WvW ?
Nice but a bit late.

See? Someone already assumed it to be true. Unbelievable.

Just a honest concern, not trying to spread an unfounded rumor.
I was really excited about it. Until i read overflow. There is only a minority of servers which have queues so much that it is a problem. So i guess ~60% of all server will most likely never be able to play the new map. Which is also really bad for a public beta test. I really hope they make it accessible through the WvW map selection. At least for the time its being tested.
And i kinda have a bad feeling that it might give people more of a reason to stack servers. Queues are no more an “issue” to experience wvw and the ability to play a 4th map. Its really a double edged sword.
Step five in the plan to get everyone who WvW’s onto 3 servers so they can shut it down due to it being a “fringe interest”
Nice to see that they are working on something useful finally. Maybe this game has some hope after all.
To be fair, they will probably create that said map to every server, including overflow servers. With this kind of approach, players could play in normal servers and when they are in overflow servers.

Assumed what to be true? It’s designed to counter queues. Queues only ever exist in T1 outside of weekends (T2 also). I don’t expect someone from tier 1 to know, but you have to realize there are times when low tiered servers have a total of 5-10 people in all of WvW. Adding another map on top of the 4 that already exist would kill game play even more in these tiers.
The best thing they could do for lower tiers is to close down BL’s and EB during the ~6 hours that is not prime time, and let everyone play in this map instead. Ether that or close down BL’s and let everyone play in EB (something they should have done ages ago).
The GW2 hub guy on reddit is saying "this map will generate regardless of “overflow”. It’ll be selectable like any other."

I’m having trouble reading the pages at work. Does it say if players who don’t normally experience overflows will be able to play on the map? Is it also designed to host the GvG players? I believe they said the jumping puzzle thingy was a placeholder perhaps for this?
[edit…] answered above, thanks.

My deduction was correct.
I would love to know a timeframe for this implementation
I hope it doesn’t only include T1 feedback otherwise we are just going to see more zerg meta.

This is a bad azzumption. A lot of players in T1 really hate Zerg fests, including myself. However, if that’s the game way of offering you Lemons, then make a lemonade.

Just because it’s designed to be most helpful in combatting queues doesn’t mean it’s only going to be available when queues are there.
Seriously, ask yourself why they would implement a map that would only be usable during prime time and on reset night?
“The Edge of the Mists beta test will be invite-only, and guilds will be asked to put in applications if they want to be part of the test. Peters stressed that since ArenaNet wants a great number and variety of players, the test will also be open to guilds that don’t currently play GW2, and players from all around the world will be able to participate (although at least one member must be able to compile feedback in English for the developers to read). Testing of Edge of the Mists is slated to begin in November and continue into 2014.”
So that’s the invite/application beta. Sounds like they are using this as a recruiting tool to pull in player from other games because they mention guilds that don’t even play GW2 can get in.
Remember its not finished and its being beta tested by WvW players, so problems can be ironed out…
This is great news for me, I am on Seafarer’s Rest and I log in to play WvW and can’t because of queues…often I have given up and logged off to play another game. So good idea, also involving players is great because we will end up with it being good…cause players who play know the game the best and know what works well.
Amazing a new map!
Im interested in the landscape, the landscape on the Pictures looks Amazing.¨
I have been waiting long for an new wvw map but like anyone said Before, how can lower populated servers that not can fill the already existing 4 maps, fill this? Will that means that they will get fewer ppl on the other maps?
Outside of T1, this map will be underpopulated, a place where pvE Care Bears can grind out their season 1 achieves without any actual pvp, without affecting real wvw.
Very Sneaky anet.
I must wonder how many players may end up preferring this map over the borderlands, especially if wxp is easier to farm there.
That’s such a waste of a perfectly good map… why have it overflow only? Will we even be able to join it if there’s no queue..

With that Blog post, i can see sky areas, bridges… i care less about WXP as long as it is fun

If the scenery is open and all nice I could see it being very popular.
Especially for servers that are getting stomped, organized guilds can come over here and farm wxp, assuming they can get in together.

While I appreciate the sentiment and personally I hope all T1 players spend 90% of their play time sitting in a que, I do think there are some positives for the rest of us.
It will depend greatly on how it is implemented, but in other games there was a whole community built around the test server, they only played there and I can see this map being similar. Further seems like a good way to meet up for GvG against people on other servers.
As someone that could care less about PPT in an environment where coverage and population are the only thing that matters, I like the idea of a map that has nothing at all to do with PPT and if there is action and I like the environment, I would play there over the other maps.
This sounds very interesting, and actually has me excited about WvW for the first time since Spring. Finally a step in the right direction it seems, gj ANet.

There is indeed, one copy of this map will always be available during any match up.
Hey Colin! I started a living FAQ for the map as well everyone so jump in there and ask questions and I will try to answer them throughout the day. It is stickied in this sub forum.

i’m on a rank 12 (?) server … and we have queues everyday.

Anyone else finding that the link to the survey doesn’t work?
I don’t understand. The problem I have in WvW is there are too few people on my server.
“players get stuck waiting in line” is not a thing!
Anyone else finding that the link to the survey doesn’t work?
Yes, it’s not working for me as well.
I just can’t see how this will work with unbalanced populations? It spawns new overflows when full? What if one side has 50 people and the other two have 5?
The only way I can see it work is if the overflow is common to all worlds (as pve overflows are) and sides are randomly assigned, or you get a chance to pick as in sPvP. Unfortunately from what I’ve read so far this appears not to be the case.
And, as it’s a selectable map it will spread out the lower pop server over 5 maps instead of 4. That just makes things worse ….
This is an exciting new thing, but it really needs to be divorced from the current match-up in order to work.
Most servers can’t fill four maps, why do we need a fifth?
I’m excited about new terrain and possibly new objectives or gameplay, but populations are too sparse already, this will make that problem worse.
It’s a good question, and one we talked about a lot. Above all else, our main raises behind adding another map (which can overflow and create multiple copies of itself) include:
Hope that helps a bit! We know for much smaller worlds this may seem like it’s no big deal, since you never deal with queues anyway, but the gameplay and experience should hopefully be fun (and different) such that it may attract new players to WvW. It also opens up opportunities for us to do other types of experiences in WvW across all worlds that may help bolster smaller worlds populations as well.
