Obsidian Sanctum - How we can restore it.
so why should I hold back and not do PvP battle in a PvP area to earn badges?
You don’t have to hold back. But neither should more people go there because it’s what you want to do.
If you were away for a year, then maybe you haven’t caught up yet with the social “meta” changes in philosophy amongst game players. If what you want involves other players, then go find where they are and attack them there. You may even end up doing your server some good, instead of just camping a jumping puzzle and getting kicks from messing with (mostly, nowadays) PvErs who are just trying to get to the chest as rapidly as possible with no real interest in fighting.
You know that the jumping puzzle is no longer a part of EBG now, right?

I know it’s not – Yet let me get to what got me a bit confused about your comment. Regardless of a “social meta” change or not: that’s still no green light for people to behave like a complete kitten when attacked in a PvP area. Need is say again: Until Anet STATES OS as a Duel-friendly zone, these “duelers” has no right to be upstraight rude to – not just me, but anyone who start to fight enemy targets: which they currently are doing.
A “social” change is nothing but a belief, until it’s started by the creators that a change like that has been done (Which only will happen by de-activating the PvP in OS and enabling a duel system) I have no reason to hold back from engaging in PvP combat nor should those that find themselves down there get mad and behave in the manner most of them do upon facing a player from another server.

Well, “right” is probably not the word you want to use, since “rights” are very specifically defined things.
However, you don’t like to be kittened out when you are interrupting something that other people are doing, is that correct? Specifically – when you are playing the game the way you want to play, using aspects of it that are in place, you feel that you can do whatever you want to other people – regardless of what they may want – with impunity? Because the individuals you are inflicting your actions upon may find them in conflict with what they want to do.
Note that nobody is stopping you from doing it, but they are expressing their displeasure are your intrusion into their game.
And you can’t compare what you’re doing to dueling – dueling is a bit more formal than that. Two opponents bow to indicate that they are ready, and they play until someone is downed. The victor doesn’t spike them, and bystanders (or people who happen across the duel) typically respect what is going on, even though they could attack one or both of the duelers. Dueling is mutually consensual.
What you are doing is ganking. Specifically, you are attacking people when they are vulnerable because they are navigating a jumping puzzle so are paying attention to placement and environmental details, and when they (as per the social meta referred to earlier) have a reasonable expectation not to be attacked.
It’s generally seen as poor taste to attack people in the WvW jumping puzzles, not that it doesn’t happen, so that makes you the boor here. You’re surprised that people respond to that? You must be quite far removed from humanity that you think that people shouldn’t get mad or annoyed or frustrated.
What you’re actually doing is kind of on the level of spawn camping. Sure, you can do it, but it’s generally regarded as a jerky thing to do (in a wide range of games, not just in GW2). You are not comparable to dueling or anything else that’s agreed upon by all parties, so understand where what you enjoy ranks with the playerbase as a whole.
But keep on doing what you want. I’d suggest setting yourself to invisible if you don’t want to be whispered.
I wish Obsidian Sanctum was still a thing.
I was the type of player who enjoyed running the gauntlet of enemies and besting/out witting them to get to the chest.
If it’s red it’s dead. Any other “rules” you bring to the table you better be prepared to enforce yourself.
Well that’s one of the main issues now: “Duelers” believe themselves as exceptions to this matter. Now again: I do not chase them down inside the Arena part of OS but I still ENTER way to many times to see people from ALL THREE separate server “fight” (Which apparently is dueling) right at the ENTRANCE – Then I get the hate for pointing my bow and shooting arrows at them. They should ad a set of rules or something for people to read and AGREE to before entering zones – Not just Obsidian Sanctum but yeah, anything …
As said, if they can enforce a rule, the rule is there. The game rules are same for everyone and if you can kill them, why do you care what they think the rules are?
Bring 10 of like-minded friends and crush their stupid dueling ring. Problem solved.
Players whining to you for interrupting their dueling? Block them. Problem solved.
I would go back to OS if the jumping puzzle difficulty is toned down. It is very difficult even with no players around to stop me.
4x Necromancer, 3x Mesmer, 4x Guardian, 4x Thief, 4 Revenant
+1 Rimmy.
Great suggestion about setting status to “invisible/offline.” OP doesn’t have to hear from those he is jumping on while they do their business and we don’t have anymore whiny RP post. GG.
I’ve had some awesome epic battles in there too op, I understand where you are coming from. The truth is guild wars 2 is a care bear game. People don’t like ganking/ world pvp/ pk. I say keep ganking them, I might start going there myself to cause some mischief.
The boarderlands jps used to be good to gank at too.
