So as you might’ve guessed.. This thread is about the jumping puzzle in the Eternal Battlegrounds, going by name of Obsidian Sanctum. You can access it through 3 keeps in WvW, 1 located on each of the portions of the map closest to your team’s starting waypoint.

That effectively means that any and everyone can access the puzzle at any one time. This is incredibly annoying when you’re trying to do the puzzle by yourself, while the enemy teams love to gank up and do it in groups. But why is this so horribly annoyed? Here’s a list of why’s:

1. You need to run and jump around on tiny ledges, from which it’s very easy to lose your balance and fall down – Meaning you will need to do countless amounts of puzzling all over again (Not bad persay, unless your short term memory got fried, I suppose)

2. The challenges present in the puzzle are already pretty darn hard to get around. Without getting attacked from all sides, my thief has plenty of troubles jumping from one end to the other – And by the time you reach the room with no lighting.. things only get worse. Or perhaps in the colloseum part.

3. By the time you’re halfway into the puzzle, you’ll probably have spend around 20 minutes to half an hour – More if you’re doing it for the first time, or on a different profession. Not by itself is not annoying. However imagine being run over by a truck seconds before your character’s hands reach the chest with its rewards. And since you’re all alone.. No one is around to help you.

As you might’ve guessed.. I suck at making good lists. But thanks for reading along so far already. Next up is a suggestion to remove some of the annoyance caused by these members who love harassing others – Even though clearly this is a PvP portion of the game, of which I’m well aware.

Instead of making the puzzle available for everyone at any given time.. Why not limit access for 1 world at a time? Why not remove the 3 entrances and instead place a single access point in for instance Anzalias, or Quentin Lake. Or any other random outpost available.

Not only would this give people more incentive to capture said outpost, but it would also give outposts other than Stonemist Castle some extra strategic value to the team. I mean really. The chest gives you free siege weapons, amongst things. What’s not to love?

Thoughts? Opinions? Or do y’all think I should just team up with the rest of the zerglings on my server and do the jumping puzzle with 15 (allied) people at a time?

PS: Attached you’ll find a printscreen which clearly indicates how annoying it is to spend an hour or more on a jumping puzzle, solo.. (The team member just teamed up FYI, a few seconds before I made the printscreen)

Sry, but what you search is the PvE type of a jumping puzzle. The Obsidian Sanctum is clearly a PvP version, where it’s absolutely intended to be fighting with other players. I would normally not say that but: Go to the PvE. There are really a lot of jumping puzzles to do without that “problem”. The WvW one is designed for fighting in it. If you can’t handle it alone (no offense at all, I died quite a few times there^^), then search for a litte group to do it. I’m sure you’ll find a few people having the same problem.
But changing the puzzle to your idea (just letting one world entering it), would just make it to another PvE puzzle (which is not intended).

Why would that turn it into a PvE puzzle? I’m not saying players in the puzzle would get kicked :P Plus at the current rate that outposts and keeps get captured, it wouldn’t be long before the next team comes ‘round to grab it =) I’ve seen a single outpost switch around to a different team several times within the span of half an hour. That’s not nearly enough to finish even half of the puzzle ^^;

Plus going into the puzzle with a full on zerg would be pointless, as the rest of the map would become vulnerable =)

“I’m not saying players in the puzzle would get kicked :P” → This would neither make it a PvE Puzzle. But closing the puzzle for 2 worlds would make it a normal jumping puzzle. Without any enemies inside. Just like the PvE ones. And I didn’t talk of a zerg, cause 5 people (or even less?) aren’t a zerg =)
It’s absolutely not the problem, that players can’t go inside because it’s another world’s turn, the problem is, that there won’t be enemies (players) inside (or just the very first minutes). This would turn it into a PvE puzzle.

I rarely do the jumping puzzle if there aren’t other allies there. Almost always I will get ganked, or camped at traps. The puzzle itself is actually very easy once you know the path and the jumps. It actually grants a lot more checkpoints (at least if you fall in most parts of the puzzle, you don’t have to start over from the very beginning) than some other jumping puzzles in the game.

I would suggest trying to go with friends or allies doing the puzzle.

And a tip to anyone who has an AoE caster. I find using the AoE caster much better at navigating dark puzzle rooms than torches.

There is a reason the jumping puzzle is located in a PvP zone.
