I do understand that you think i am whining but I believe that it should not be necessary that everyone has to fight other players constantly but why if you are on your own do three people have to gank you when only one should suffice. This is the only problem that I have with WvWvW.
I have some theories why this happens, but the most likely is that they think you are a scout for a larger party.
Many people just run under a “if it’s red it’s dead” philosophy. If you’re on your way to a jump puzzle you may consider yourself an innocent bystander, but you’re still technically an enemy combatant.
Everything is a Nemesis plot.

There are two solutions to this.
1. Go to the jump puzzle with a group of friends and kill the people trying to kill you.
2. Don’t go into WvW.

I went to do a JP the other day and was fortunate that the players from another server did not attack me. We both took chances that neither one was out for combat in this area but rather the JP. As I progessed through the JP someone from the 3rd server didn’t have the same attitude and promptly dispatched me after I showed no signs of retaliation.
Now, this is not a crying post. I understood fully when I entered the JP that I could be killed at any moment. Those that chose cooperation with me did so by their own volition and against their individual benefit to loot my corpse for badges.
While I was slightly disappointed that I was killed, I understood the choice to forgo cooperation in a zone that in fact encourages competition between servers. I shook off the encounter and continued on.
Expect other players to attack you and if they don’t, even better. This understanding is crucial when you enter WvW. Yes, its frustrating when you’re steamrolled by greater numbers. But there are ways around this.
My main advice to you: Adapt.
Don’t give up. Find places to hide. Take indirect routes. As others already stated, go with a group. Ask in /map chat if other people are at the JP and watch for teamates calling out enemy locations. Most importantly, keep it fun. If you’re not smiling or enjoying yourself rethink the problem and search for alternative solutions that keep the game enjoyable.
I 1v30 players all the time. Often those 30 are invisible until it is too late. I assume that I was also invisible to them because if they saw me in time, those 30 would have run away.

Well if we didn’t murder every single enemy we see, where would the fun in WvW go? It’s the only reason to go there :P
And they should let you live just because they have superior numbers?
As far as PvP inside the actual JP is concerned, I usually say “live and let live”. But if you touch me, you’re dead.

Overkill? There is no such thing as overkill… I’d Eviscerate (F1 axe warrior for those who don’t know it) a rabbit with maximum adrenaline if i had the chance…

3 people? 3 people does not a zerg make. Overkill? I suppose that depends on how you’re specced and your level of skill vs. theirs. Even if you couldn’t kill all 3, you could delay them from getting another kill, or delay them long enough that your allies show up. For them, it’s far more efficient to quickly finish you off than to wait for one of their members to try.
There are wolves in WvW. They run in packs and they certainly do bite. They all want a piece of you and they will overwhelm you if you let them. Either be quick on your feet and keep looking over your shoulder or bring a friend or four to fend them off.
You all realize the OP is just kittening with you right? Although he does have a point about removing repair cost in WvW, or just upping the money you earn a little bit.

I think EVERYONE agrees that the JPs should be removed from WvW. You don’t want to have to fight people to do the puzzle and nobody else wants you to waste a slot for players who actually want to WvW. I wouldn’t be the least surprised if people camp/gank at the JP precisely so that more people will complain about it in these forums until ANet does something about it. They want you to die and write about how unfair you think is. If I was on a server that was steamrolling the other two servers I’d probably do the same thing.

That’s a good suggestion. For one thing should keep the PVE people out of our borderlands.

If you want controlled pvp fights, try structured pvp. WvW is for madness, chaos, ganking, zerging, random small group fights, random 1v1s, etc. It isn’t there for safety during pve activities, as you are finding out.

From what I’ve read in ANet’s comments about future additions to the game, they intend to develop the capability for player-generated contests (including duels) within the sPvP structure. In any case, it doesn’t really belong in WvW. I understand why players enjoy things like fight clubs, but hosting them within WvW is pretty much like two players deciding to play HORSE while the rest of their teammates are playing basketball.

I’m one JP away from getting them all. It is on one of the borderlands. But, learning to navigate WvW more safely took awhile, as I’m a slow learner. I went through the rage, fear, disgust, acceptance, rebuild for success steps. The single best strategy for a newer player is to travel in groups, ideally with a mesmer and or thief to give you some advice. There is enough incentive in the chest rewards to get a few players during slower times to join you. You don’t have to party up, but it will help you see what everybody is doing, and why. JPs make for more difficult smaller battles as some skills lead to oops, off the puzzle. Removal of siege will make it a tiny bit less hostile.

I get into 1 v 3 situations pretty frequently, though they usually end with the 3 dead and me thinking if they had brought a fourth they would have had a chance.

Go to the class section of the forum, and find a build with toughness and extreme mobility. Practice it heavily in PvE. Learn to use your gap closers to retreat. For example, as a guardian, I use judge’s intervention to quickly get away from large groups and zergs followed by save yourselves for the swiftness and GS#3 to put even more distance between me and whoever is after me. Within 2 seconds I’m far away enough from whoever was after me that I can’t even see them on my screen sometimes.
You have to pay attention to your environment though as some gap closers require you to target a hostile in order to use the skill such as Judge’s Intervention for guardians. The toughness helps you survive if you screw up your skill rotation during your retreat and your only a few hundred yards away from the nearest friendly tower. When that happens use any skill that gives you stability and/or condition removal and you might just make it to your tower. Once you build some confidence you may even decide to engage the enemy and even if you become overwhelmed you will still be able to make a hasty retreat.
That being said, This game caters to carebears quite a bit. The latest patch made it so you can no longer build siege in the JP area. There is no dedicated server for open world PvP. There is no dueling or arena. The whole concept of the downed state has carebear written all over it. Zergs keep the bads safe for the most part. So people like me have to resort to baiting tactics and pretending to run away :P Once I get someone far enough from the group I either destroy them or sometimes I have a good fight.

Sorry to hear that you got ganked, OP, but that’s what the JP is going to end up having. I do JP runs when there are the fewest number of players online and I still end up facing players who see my red tag and immediately come after me, even after I run by them with the clear intention of avoiding a fight. When I did my run today, I ran into 4, pvp happy Maguumans and despite the delay, I was still able to complete all 4 JPs in 30 minutes.
Here’s a tip, use a thief to do the JPs. It’s the easiest class to use to get away, sneak by players, or just be a nuisance with. Also, try the /wave or /cheer. Don’t do the /bow as that’s a duel invitation to many.

To the OP, Its pointless. Anet don’t give a rats kitten they had no clue as to what was going to happen when they made map completion and a puzzle in a pvp zone. Should the jumping puzzle be removed from a pvp area? yes, its a source of badges for pve folks to get legendaries without having to GRIND wvw for weeks. Should a PUZZLE be in an area that suffers long ques to get in and is just full of skilless players relying on numbers to kill lone pve folk? (if you’re a skilled wvw player, you’re actually fighting to help your server not kitten about in a puzzle like school bullies). Will anet listen? no. They’ve got too many other craptastic ideas to implement and fix. So basically your choices are – 1) join the zerg and hope you do enough dps to tag kills and get badges. 2) try to talk to anet about it (gl) 3) forget about it and just drop the game till its fixed (again, gl). All you’ll get here is the kiddies going “hurr hurr, we done camped your kitten #8221; sorry, just the way it is.
