Regardless of whether you’re correct or not, people who thought that they would be able to get Ascended Gear for just BOHs were kidding themselves…

For whatever reason, if you’re actually THAT opposed to travelling to LA and doing “Mystic Forgesmith” or “Karma Spender” dailies, then you don’t deserve the laurels and the subsequent Ascended Gear that goes with them.

Devon was actually very vague (most likely on purpose), not specifying what exactly he was confirming. Well played on his part if you ask me.

Attempting to contact arenanet.support seeking counselling expenses.

1) badges are kitten easy to get on high tiers, this is so you can buy lots of siege.
2) waaaay too many people are stuffed senseless with badges and are too selfish too buy lots of siege and want rewards for themselves, aka ascended items.

Ascended rings can be purchased for 25 laurels and 250 badges of honor.

Someone remind me, what is the price at the laurels merchant in Lions Arch?

Laurels are so anti- multiple toons as is the whole current wvw Wexp set up, it’s like ANet saying ’ PLAY ONLY ONE TOON OR ELSE’

Wouldn’t have minded 5-10 laurels (that’s still 5-10 days worth, or about 20 days at my current rate of them) per piece, at that rate all i’d need is another 5000 badges or so and 100-200 laurels to get ascended rings (nevermind the other pieces) for my toons.

The only gating of ascended items is in wvw- in pve they can fly through fractals in minutes and there is a chances of DROPS there.

Maybe they should have added ascended items as a drop chance in the wvw chests and removed the ‘masterwork’ items and traps.

You can see why i gave up even trying to achieve any meaningful wvw rank across my toons- I’m about rank 50 ish, but it’s spread over multiple toons so my highest is 13…

As it stands the badges aspect is trivial and token. WvW’ers have been left out in the cold for 6 months now? And yet more months to come as we can finally gather laurels doing what we enjoy. Still no WvW ascended back item.

Don’t get me wrong, I’d rather gear grind had never been introduced as anet had said it wouldn’t be, but to get second-class treatment when it was, and even now…eh.

No WvW ascended items available for badges, just slight discounts, and accessories are totally off the menu.

Um we’ve known for a week or more now that ascended items would cost laurels as well as badges. IMHO the price is OK. I was afraid they might do something stupid and charge 500 badges.

The issue IMHO is the backpacks which are still only available by doing fractals except the sclerite one.

I believe the point Victory was making is that because you can only earn 40 laurels per month it takes a very long time to gear up multiple characters with ascended gear if you are using laurels.

hey all…

I can only speak for DB.

We have guilds that spam in LA, and some will offer temporary guild invites in exchange for helping them do their guild missions/puzzles/races…etc. You can use guild commendations to get your ascended accessories instead of laurels (or in conjuction with). Doing all the guild stuff with an organized guild can get you 6 guild commendations a week.

Wrong. You can get the Sclerite Karka Shell (ascended) without doing a single fractal.

It’s ugly and expensive, and doesn’t have the stats I want.

The evidence I do have is that just about everyone in my guild feels these changes are lame and not enough to keep interest in GW2 for the long term. We are a hardcore WvW guild in T1 and have held out for a while in hopes that Anet would do the right thing. Most find this round of enhancements to be insulting or not enough and are looking forward to ESO.

I am a software developer. In fact I am the lead architect on our main application which is used by hundreds of hospitals across the United States. If I didn’t listen to my clients and take in their feedback then I wouldn’t be nearly as successful as I am today. I have found that the vocal minority is in fact representative of a major portion of the population. While I do control the vision of the application, I do make changes according to market and feedback.

It’s nice to finally have ascended items in WvW and a use for our badges. That being said, the laurel discount should have been larger (perhaps with an increased amount of badges attached to the cost to compensate). Also, no discount on accessories is a major letdown, as is the complete lack of ascended back items. Incidentally, A.Net can insist on such practices all they want, it still won’t make me any more enthusiastic about fractals or guild missions – rather, the continuation of such policies only breeds more resentment. All told, the laurel system still constitutes a (now slightly less) significant disincentive to playing alts, never mind experimenting with alternative builds that require different gear.

I haven’t gotten a rare item yet, and if that means I have to salvage to get the ecto, guess what? I’ll sell it because I’m a WvW player and I need the gold.

I expect to be able to use my badges to buy Ascended gear, including back pieces and accessories, no matter what the controversy is over laurels. I hate that too, but how many Harvey Wallbangers can you drink in one game?

Wrong. You can get the Sclerite Karka Shell (ascended) without doing a single fractal.

An ascended highly specialized (apothecary) ascended back piece doesn’t really count.

The fact remains that almost all useful backpieces are not available without doing fractals. It’s possible they are planning to dole them out as party favors during the living story over the next year.

Lulz, I have to spend all my laurels on dyes just to afford upgrades and siege.

I generally solo roam, escort yaks, and refresh siege, too, so I don’t get many badges, either; that’s another issue, though.

I go up 3 ranks apx an hour now with the new patch so that’s the chance of 6 rares an hour till im level 300 wvw isn’t 2nd rate its go into pve and try to get 3 rares an hour not farming broken temple events or southsun with the 200% magic find buff there

I don’t get it. If people only WvW, and haven’t spent a single laurel. How the kitten do you not have 60-70+ saved up. Its been 4 months since laurels were introduced. Assuming even a 25% rate of daily completion, you would have atleast 40(monthly) +40(from dailies), 80 laurels. This just means that you really really suck at spending 5 mins to complete an easy quest.

Ectos are not exclusive to PvE, you can get them from WvW, and with the WvW chest we’ll know exactly how many.

Because dailies suck. They are essentially a 2nd job that you have to do every day. People play MMO’s to get away from stuff like chores.

Dailies might be marginally acceptable if you could do them strictly through killing people in WvW or completing WvW objectives. Gathering or spending karma are not WvW objectives.

Even then though dailies would probably distort WvW play for the worse. Playing the map, and strategy would be replaced by groups farming their dailies.

I’ve seen it happen in other games. I’m just surprised Anet introduced the same old hackneyed mechanics. The Manifesto lead us to expect differently.

All ascended gear kind of has a cap on the rate at which you can acquire it, I can see why it will be no different for WvW ascended pieces.

Only a WvW player knows Anet won’t spoonfeed you, I’ve collected 149 laurels since they introduced the currency.

If there is cap why PvE player have so many rings that they don’t have room to store those? Cap just mean that devs take revenge against players who haven’t done their flavor of the month dungeon.

Because they’ve been doing several tiers of fractals a day since November and ended up getting bonus rings with useless stats. They still need laurels for amulets and accessories… Don’t tell me you’re jealous of those people :p

But they already have rings so they can get more amulets. One ring cost 35 laurels so i don’t know how you exploit this game if this seems small thing for you. Well maybe if you could get 100 laurels/day it wouldn’t matter that much.

Fractals lvl 10 and beyond award a daily chest that gives a chance of getting an ascended ring. lvl 26+ gives a chance for that daily chest to give a free infused ring. On top of that, every 5th daily chest is a guarenteed ring in the chest. So people (like me) have tons of random stat rings sitting in the bank wondering when they’ll be useful / tradeable / able to breakdown for mats.

It wasn’t in the patch notes, so I assume it’s a bug, but the dots on the map to show party members have changed. They used to be bigger blue dots, just like in PvE, while now they are green like other friendlies.

It is amusing that this whole ascended gear fiasco is a very effective scapegoat to blind people to the fact that wvw gets no substantial badges. The fact that we can cause 10 pages of uproar over a laurel vendor is sad. Who even cares about the rewards of 3% more stats or whatever kitten when the actual core gameplay is so fundamentally broken.

Lets try this, fix:

-Banner rez on lord
-Raid UI
-Improved commander tag features
-Waypoints being useable while the keep is under siege
-Diminishing returns for playing in larger groups (wexp scaling for both events and kills based on the number of players with you)
-Reducing the damage of arrowcarts
-Fixing the problem where retal is only nerfed in EB (I lold at this one, do they even know about this bug?)
-Lowering the amount of supply a keep can hold to prevent night time advantage
-Reducing the amount of supply transported by a dolyak when enemy servers are outmanned (hello upgrades overnight?)
-Improving the outmanned buff to serve a useful function (increase siege damage or supply capacity)
-A leaderboard for player kills/wexp rank and other wvw related features
-And finally a bit of class balance, such that running 40 guardians isnt the optimal thing to do

Oh wait no wtf, nevermind. Whether I can get ascended accessories is more important, please ignore the above, I know you will anyways…

Speak for yourself, I don’t think the core is fundamentally broken. Half those changes aren’t good ideas (who cares how many kills someone on an AoE class farmed in tier 1?).

+1, its not the ascended, is what they promise, and their 0 skill in fixing problems. Why do we need a wxp system when we have skill lag in fights, why do we need ascended gear when the game is not balanced. Don’t implement anything else fix the problems we have now then when everything is up and running implemente new thing. But after 9 month we are still playing the beta.

The devs and the opinion of the wvw community seem to be totally disconnected. There’s no dialogue, no transparancy. I respect the devs for what they do and I could understand that they don’t have the resources (read money) to add new content, but it would be nice if you just told us that is the case.

+1. Devs have a certain vision of a game (WvW), which is totally different from reality.
Devs: WvW is Casual PvP when you’re bored of PvE, to cater some ppl to Spvp
Reality: WvW is the only GW2 mode where ppl have a chance to be Hardcore.

Making leveling so easy was meant to let everybody play whatever they want…yet update after update they keep screwing up whoever isn’t using a single char all days everyday.

-Diminishing returns for playing in larger groups (wexp scaling for both events and kills based on the number of players with you)
-Reducing the damage of arrowcarts
-Fixing the problem where retal is only nerfed in EB (I lold at this one, do they even know about this bug?)
-Lowering the amount of supply a keep can hold to prevent night time advantage
-Reducing the amount of supply transported by a dolyak when enemy servers are outmanned (hello upgrades overnight?)
-Improving the outmanned buff to serve a useful function (increase siege damage or supply capacity)
-A leaderboard for player kills/wexp rank and other wvw related features
-And finally a bit of class balance.

Can we trade all the fluff for working/balanced stuff?

Laurels are so anti- multiple toons as is the whole current wvw Wexp set up, it’s like ANet saying ’ PLAY ONLY ONE TOON OR ELSE’

Also, this. But that’s not really a WvW thing only.
Making leveling so easy was meant to let everybody play whatever they want…yet update after update they keep screwing up whoever isn’t using a single char all days everyday.

Ya know, most of the stuff in this thread is pretty silly. The chests are a step forwards and including silver as well as badges and greens. Those of you that have thousands of badges are plainly not using them for the gear and much worse, you are not helping out your realm by buying siege. Thanks for making the rest of us dirt poor carrying you heavy gits too selfish to spend the badges.

However, these quotes are absolutely right. I am an altoholic and have several 80’s, but I also have 20 characters. I enjoy each character having it’s own specific role rather than cumbersome armor switches and retraits. I have contributed a good amount of money to the game. But this game hates people who have alts. Between laurels and gem store items that only provide me 1 single items alone my alts get screwed.

The patchnotes also mention that the dailies will include more wvw related activities and will show up in the daily more frequently. i’ve already noticed this

We included the laurel cost to prevent the economy from suddenly being blown out and to not invalidate the ways PvE players can get ascended items already. This system means that it is faster to get them in WvW, especially for players who already have badges, without being so much faster that everyone only gets them in this manner. As for the difficulty of acquiring laurels in WvW, we have taken steps to address that, including the fact that there will always be 3 daily achievements that are WvW specific. Speaking personally, I’ve been able to achieve my dailies in WvW even without that change, but this should make it even easier.

You could’ve reduced the laurel cost by another 5-10 laurels and increase the badge cost by about 750 badges. Good luck to the PvE players trying to get ascended gear by using the ‘easy way,’ because they’d have to commit to WvW for a good duration to get that amount of badges. Us, on the other hand, are still stuck with many thousands of badges, always hoping they’ll actually be useful to buy valuable stuff.

Edit: You might as well have removed the badge cost completely, because by the time we’ve collected 20+ laurels we’ll have gotten a LOT more badges, as such only increasing the amount of this still fairly pointless currency in our bank.

The solution is to separate PvE and WvW gear, like most other modern games with RvR out there do (LOTRO, SWTOR etc.).

Laurels would buy PvE gear, and Badges would buy the WvW gear.

The fact that Anet is tying themselves in knots trying to make Laurels/Ascended work in WvW shows that:

1) Ascendeds were added very late in development pre-launch, or post-launch, when it became apparent they needed a gear treadmill to keep PvE customers. It’s been bolted on, completely unintegrated with what went before.

2) Anet perceives WvW as a casual game mode that supplements PvE.

To be honest i don’t get what are the problem with these vendors. Personally i think they should have added more badge requirement for these items.

Also with newly added daily achievements you should absolutely have no problem with laurels. Yesterday i have spent roughly 10 minute in WvW on EB and i got my daily chests. Yes its a shame you can get only 40 laurel in a month, but well they are not hard to get.

My main problem is the accessories. You either work 1 month for a single 1 + 50 ecto, or make the stupid pve bounties. I am in a WvW guild that’s is making maximum 2 guild bounty in a month. So for me to get the 6 accessories for the 3 Warrior build i am using will take like 3 month or more. :/ while Pve guys will get it probably in 1.

I have received 6 wvw chests so far and each chest gave one piece of siege, 5 badges and one green. Underwhelmed atm but perhaps the higher ranking chests have a better chance at something worthwhile.

One guildmate had even an ascended ring in one of his chests, don´t know his rank though.

Given this and the lower laurel-cost I think WvW-players are in a very good spot concerning rings and necklaces.

Paying less laurels and a chance for a precursor already seems to inflict longer cues for WvW-maps anyways, so be careful what you wish, it might backfire.

And laurels are the only gate against getting everything instantly.

I am very upset about this laurel+badge method. Yes I do understand you guys want to do a timesink on ascended items, but it seems like the discussion inside the company has lead to a fairly wrong decision. I was hoping something like pure badges method(even 1000 for amulets, 1250 for rings will work) , because a wvw-only player will still need some time to farm those amount. With the addition of laurels, a wvw-only player’s rate of getting any ascended item has been settled to 20 or 25 days. The problem that comes with this is: in wvw, why a full-time wvw player get ascended item at the same rate as a part-time wvw player? No wonder people will be outrageous about the patch.

On the other hand, a person has a high fractal level can earn up to 4 pristine each day every char, which greatly reduce the time(3 days of getting ascended equipment. In order to achieve that fractal level, one must grind the dungeon about 39 times, with each costs about 1.5 hours. That’s about totally 60 hours before one can get 4 pristine everyday. Ask any wvw only player, how much time has he/she committed to wvw? Please have another discussion about the logic behind “PVE gets ascended much much much much much faster than wvw”. I sincerely hope this is not working as intended for wvw players.

I am not going to argue with the statement on “you can now easily finish daily by only wvw”, because the thought behind this statement is just not right. “Restorer is up I need to go take tower’s supply and repair walls!” A wvw—only player will surely know whats wrong behind that action.

I would like to see a badge-only method being introduced soon.

This useless bar doesn’t make you awesome. However, stuff above does.

I don’t get it. If people only WvW, and haven’t spent a single laurel. How the kitten do you not have 60-70+ saved up. Its been 4 months since laurels were introduced. Assuming even a 25% rate of daily completion, you would have atleast 40(monthly) +40(from dailies), 80 laurels. This just means that you really really suck at spending 5 mins to complete an easy quest.

Ectos are not exclusive to PvE, you can get them from WvW, and with the WvW chest we’ll know exactly how many.

Because dailies suck. They are essentially a 2nd job that you have to do every day. People play MMO’s to get away from stuff like chores.

Dailies might be marginally acceptable if you could do them strictly through killing people in WvW or completing WvW objectives. Gathering or spending karma are not WvW objectives.

Even then though dailies would probably distort WvW play for the worse. Playing the map, and strategy would be replaced by groups farming their dailies.

I’ve seen it happen in other games. I’m just surprised Anet introduced the same old hackneyed mechanics. The Manifesto lead us to expect differently.

Maybe you ought to actually get in the game and play it. Then you’ll see how ridiculous your statement is. Dailies were easy to complete before and are notably even easier to complete in WvW now, often by accident.

For the two rings. Period. That’s all Fractals will give you. You cannot run fractals all day and get all your ascended gear. OK, so let’s say they have the two rings and you’re still working on getting yours. They have what… 6 or 8 more power than you? Ooh, be afraid. That extra point or two of damage they get, scary stuff. If only there was some way to mitigate that damage through actual combat mechanics or personal skill… sigh…

Do people have any clue as to what they’re actually complaining about? Maybe 40 or 50 extra damage per hit in an ideal attack scenario with no mitigation or avoidance whatsoever when comparing someone in full berserkers vs. the equivalent in ascended gear. If you’re losing fights and think that’s the reason why… well, that’s not very self-flattering, trust me.
