Real WvW'ders vs Casual WvW'ders
I think the change to spvp is more to bring it in line with the rest of the game. As it stands spvp is a stand alone game onto itself with no connection to the rest of the game in ant meaningful way. Changing spvp to at least reward armor skins is a very good way to connect it to the game as a whole and should help attract more people to try it out. Meaning I think the changes to spvp have little to do with any thing related to wvw or rewards from the game.
It was 2 vs 20 but its ok we got’em both!
Didn’t see anyone in my guild complain about the reward and they are all hardcore WvWers.
This complaining must come from the PvE folks that did the achievements only for the chest.
I’m not sure what type of player people would consider me but there is no difference between a hardcore player and a casual player. This being applied to WvW then it just means what part of the game they spend the most time. I have seen plenty of hardcore WvW players say there is no loot in WvW when I know there are loot bags, champ bags, along with event karma xp and money it sounds alot like pve but with a higher chance of dying. All the rewards for the season have done is further divide the games community.
That said its back to the same old same old with pve players zerging champs for loot and WvW players zerging maps for loot some say doesn’t exist.
The thing is – WvW is basically pointless as a gamemode unless you’re in there for the ZvZ/GvG fights.
Say you’re hardcore? cool, who won in the matchup you had 9 weeks ago? by how many points?
Now take a hockey fan – he’ll know who his team faced and lost to right off the bat.
WvW simply doesn’t count as a competition its too random.
Its just an extra pve area with different objectives.
Saying you’re a hardcore WvW just because you play that area more than the others is just silly, it has no real meaning to it. If you get bored of exploration and just login to play wvw for 2 weeks you’re hardcore WvW. Theres no server pride over wins or losses beyond reset night.

It’s hard to define a hardcore wvwer but the way I see it is as you mentioned is:
Those who put in the time and effort; Commanding and Supporting their community, day and night.
Those skilled players look for the fights; whether it’s roaming or Guild vs Guild.
Many wvwers brag and play for the loot, they zerg cause that’s how the game is outside of closed Guild Raids.
With the PPT and the whole Rating system, even the Leagues weren’t a fair competition.
I for one am not bothered about the reward because all it’s done is this:
All the rewards for the season have done is further divide the games community.
Although the rewards should of been more related towards wvw..
Plays completely opposite professions to his main Teef.

As a fellow WvW player pointed out to me, if the chest had good rewards, it just wouldn’t be WvW. It’d be a disgrace, frankly.

Reward was terrible
But I don’t care. I didn’t expect too much since achievements were so easy.
It’s even better, maybe with season 2 we will not have some other weird situations of alliances in wich big servers secure their positions. Instead, we could have alliances of smallest servers and this will bring us even more fun.

Going to follow this point. I was quite happy with the reward. I don’t use dragonite ore, cause I’m not getting any ascended, but who knows what the future gives? And the 5 free levels are a nice bonus for leveling characters. It set me to leveling my necro again: from 20 to 32 in 1 day (no crafting). :P
It has given me an incentive to actually try playing alts again (along with the fact that account-bound wxp is coming and that you can now gain ‘tomes of knowledge’ in spvp.
I am a “real” WvW player (logged nearly 2k hours so far) and I get a bit kitten y about the crappy loot. I didn’t mind as much until they dropped Ascended into the game that cost well north of 200g to level and craft… far more if the secondary weapon was in another crafting discipline. Had I spent those hundreds of ours in PvE, the cost would have been chump change but because I spend a considerable amount of play time in WvW the cost was quite hefty.

If killing players in PVP was all the fun you needed A.net wouldn’t be changing sPVP so drastically to provide the PVP scene with some much needed proper rewards !
Part of the problem with sPvP is that you are not properly rewarded, nor is the matched focused on, killing other players. At least in WvW you get some mileage and satisfaction from scoring player kills and stomps do actually provide PPT provided you control an Orb.

Sorry but that statement is totally false and inaccurate in every way. My server plays for fights, never for points and never has. We don’t watch the PPT to maximise crap we just all go out and smash the enemy to pieces enjoying ourselves, capping structures happens either coz we have no enemy and are bored for 5mins or because our enemy is hiding inside and has to be coaxed out(even when they outnumber us 2v1).
Our community is one of the nicest, friendliest ones going. Everyone of us care about the server. The bigger picture for us is are we having fun and is everyone working well together as a community. We couldn’t care less if we lose a fight or match as long as we’ve had some fun.
Oh and we’re number 3 ranked server not that it matters much to us. So that thought that floated through your head about a low ranked server doesn’t mean a thing. Your problem is you think everything is this big competiton that has to be won at all costs or you’re a loser, that is so far from the truth but until you realise that you’ll always be angry and mixed up.

The rewards do not matter, however equipe-runes-foods costs a lot, so we also like some golds from time to time.
A real WvW player play WvW for the fun, could it be in zerg or roaming, it actually doesn’t matter, and the PPT game is just silly.
If you play in zerg you can support your server a little bit, you cannot change the outcome of a battle by yourself.
If you do roaming you can actually help your zerg more by giving them the enemy location; stomping people; taking supply camps, killing dolyaks; capping sentrys; refreshing sieges; building some supply traps; escorting dolyaks; ecc..
And don’t compare WvW with sPvP, the 2 things are not related, but both game mode do not need rewards.
sPvP lacks purpose, only 1 game mode, only few maps, no tournaments, bad class balance.
Anet is going to give rewards ? who cares ? most people have abandoned that game mode because is incomplete, not because theres no rewards lol.
GW1 had no rewards in PvP but it was a real game, you could actualy buy only the PvP part for like 10 euros, GW2 PvP is like a crippled copy of it

i fully agree with these words. spvp is a stand alone game and i have proposed in the past ( https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/suggestions/One-million-suggestion/first#post3268506 ) to be free for all ( like LoL ) and returned to a big advertised tool for the game
WvWvW is not pvp or pve game . it is pvpve with one of the best sieges in mmos sandbox game

The mistake you made here is thinking that anet makes decisions based on logic, or what is best for the game. Anet makes changes to wvw because they want more people to play it, not because they want it to be better. Anet is making the changes to spvp because they have an unhealthy obsession with eSports. They don’t actually care if any of the sPvPers want these changes or if it actually benefits them at all.
I guess I fit into both categories.

I have to disagree with this.
there is no point in getting first in ppt since ppt just rates your coverage.
Can I be in the category that thinks this obsession with categorizing gamers is counterproductive and silly?
I have over 4000 hours played in this game, I don’t leave my characters afk, and I spent the overwhelming majority of that time in WvW. So I think of myself as a WvWer. Yet I can’t afford ascended weapons, and def won’t be able to afford ascended armor. Why am I not entitled to rewards?

One of my tunes is almost wxp rank 500 (several others are around 100) and I think the rewards sucked. Sorry if I’m too PvE/Casual to understand why I should find insulting rewards acceptable.
