221 hours over 1,581 days of bank space/hot pve/lion’s arch afk and some wvw.

I support this and I think It’d be a great Idea in general. I do not like the fact of servers being removed and I want the old boarderlands back myself. If only anet would take the time to cater to the game mode that has half of their playerbase. I only play wvw and its all I do.
It’s a poorly thought out idea.
Devs are not removing servers.
You’ll get the alpine back, probably when they make a snow map so there can be 3 unique BL maps in place.
I’m unhappy about the whole thing too, but at least they have worked on something for the past year. Unfortunately, though, it willbe too late for the current players who care… The new age will come eventually, but by then anyone who truly cared will be rooted somewhere else…

@Swagger
You have a right to your own opinion. It doesn’t really matter what we say, but I respect how you feel. I can only hope the feeling is mutual. I also liked the Old Alpine Map…and hope they bring it back as you stated above that ANet will probably do so.
@WizardBro
Appreciate your support. This proposal isn’t perfect, but seeing your kind words really made me smile.
I really hope that you get your wish of getting our Old Alpine Maps back.
@WvW Community,
There’s many of you that still care…even though you say otherwise.
You check & hope that things will change.
I know because I’ve joined this rank. My in-game time is diminished, and my time spent here is not as frequent…but I still check-in time to time.

According to their latest statements they are still working on a new WvW base and have been for over a year. Hopefully they can get SOMETHING RIGHT.
The problem seems to be a lot more complex that just a new map. The present desert borderlands is a classic example of them trying too hard to provide a rich environment and, unfortunately, overdoing it.
The main issue at the moment is it takes too long to find an enemy zerg and to get around. That applies to both large groups and single players.
The HoT expansion brought elite specializations, which unbalance WvW further. As FTP and others that did not buy HoT do not have these it puts those people at a disadvantage. As such HoT is pay to win. This needs to be reconsidered too, preferably giving everyone access to elite specializations or removing them from WvW completely.
Really they need to kick the PvE devs out of WvW and get some people who actually know what WvW is about in. To be brutally honest I don’t see that happening. anet has failed WvW too often in the past.
@Serious
Yes…many things have been done wrong imho.
At this point…nothing posted here really matters.
Even before choosing a base map mechanic…ANet should have decided on a core vision for the past, present, and future of WvW.
Without a Core Vision…WvW is like a boat without a rudder…going in circles.
WvW Vision
1) World based War…that’s why it’s called WvW.
There could easily be 3 Worlds to 1,000 Worlds at War.
New Worlds can easily join the War in the future.
Old Worlds can be retired from the War if its population can’t support it.
2) System that allows World Communities to grow or survive.
All Worlds should be able to increase their WvW Home Rank themselves, or through Players Creating Alliances with other Enemy Worlds by teaming up.
Low Ranked Worlds that have a low or declining population level are automatically protected & allowed to survive.
3) War between Worlds should typically have no borders, but should have limitations to reduce or prevent un-fair matches.
All Players/Guilds are given the ability to attack any World.
All Players/Guilds are given the ability to team up & play together with friends that have moved to other Enemy Worlds.
Map Mechanics will be in place that scales and can be adjusted to reduce or prevent un-fair matches.

So what you are asking for is a megaserver/alliance style wvw game mode that allows all players to play on any wvw map limited by population caps to keep it balanced…
Also, maps are retired just like you see happening in pve when you get the pop up offering for you to go to a different megaserver map when it wants to close because of low population…
Gotcha.
Edit- and another also, you could potentially end up being on the same side as strangers and guilds and alliances from other servers, just like eotm and pve megaserver maps do now…

I’d rather hear what others think about what should ANet use for their WvW Vision.
Unified WvW.
Currently, WvW is split between normal WvW and EoTM. Merging this into something thats both is IMO the way forward – WvW with dynamically generated border instances. Give each tier their own 24/7/week PPT EB where they are matched against servers in their tier (ie like normal WvW) but generate short duration “battle borders” (ie like EoTM) accessable by all servers where a victory mean a boon to your EB.
Something thats required on top of this is more instance transparency. IE from the WvW interface you would see that your EB has a 50 man queue and that there are currently 8 various desert/EoTM/alpine instances open, one that has 36 players with 1 hour left and a blue commander from your server and another that has 48 from your server including 8 guildmates. You can join any of these instances.
