This topic is in response to the situation I’ve seen unfold on EBG at the Blue keep. A certain thief has dedicated his life this past week to permanently contesting the keep. While I admire his dedication to the task I have to question what he is able to do. It seems to be that merely aggroing the guards at the keep gate is enough to set off the defense event and lock down the waypoint. That is where this request comes in.

Can we change a few of the things that set off the keep defense event? The following things should set off the event:
- Any siege damage to a wall or gate
- Damage to a gate with 5 or more players in the vicinity of it.
- Damage to a gate which has less than 98% HP.
- Damage to permanent siege which has less than 90% hp.

The following should not set the event off:
- Player damage to guard NPCs
- Player damage to a wall (its 0 anyway)
- Players hitting a gate with the hardened gate buff

I understand strategic implications of the change. It would no longer be viable to send someone to contest garrison one time as a tactic to lock the waypoint. It could make ninjaing a keep slightly easier. These I’m willing to accept. While what’s happening to the Blue keep in T1 this week is a legit tactic it’s cheezy as kitten and in my opinion reduces the fun of playing wvw.

Since release my personal opinion is that a waypoint should contest when there is a breach in inner and/or outer and stay contested so long as this is true.

In order to preserve the usefulness of wall guards and patrols at Reinforced and above, can we retain the white swords if guards are aggro’d but keep the waypoint uncontested until actual siege damage is done?

OR they could just revert the kittened new waypoints to what was working fine for 3 years and once again allow us to cooperate to overcome the “issue” (ie scouts say when you can port).

Similar problem as thieves would just stand at the door and Cloak and Dagger or similar until it disabled the WPs. They just made it easier (and vastly more annoying thanks to NPCs) to contest. The WP issue has been annoying since release.

I just find it really stupid that things automatically contest as soon as a guard attacks another player. I mean its hard to run by alot of towers and NOT aggro the guards without taking a very large detour. It would make sense that guards only lead to contested objectives if they are actually attacked in some way. It’s stupid that it contests after the gunner girl fires at me and I literally dodge the attack and it never hits me, but it contests anyway since she fired an attack at me. Yet you can aggro them and not contest it, but only so long as they don’t attack.
