Rethinking WvW?

It’s rather obvious at this point that World vs. World, while still fun, is not the game mode we pictured it to be years ago.

I personally thought: “Yay! A open-world like PvP mode, where guilds actually mean something!”. Boy, was I wrong.

World vs. World does not even resemble open world (1), at best it’s one single PvE map for Eternal battlegrounds, and another for the borderlands. The game mode is larger than SPvP, but it does not feel like you are in an existing world, it feels a lot like a construction, and immersion is not the feeling I get when playing in it.

Guilds (2) do not have the sort of control over the area as I imagined they would have. There is no building, and very little customizing: you can drop siege with a 1 hour timer, you can fortify walls and gates, but you cannot change structures in the way they look. You can’t get your guild a tower they would fight to defend at all costs. Instead, most of the time you see a large zerg coming from afar, look at the supply depot (70/100) and decide to just leave it because it’s not worth the time, effort and trouble… because you already know you will end up being slaughtered by a numerical superiority.

I am sure each of you, dedicated WvW player, newbie or something in between, has his own reasons for disliking what WvW is; be it the lack of balance between servers, the low customizability, the lack of immersion, the dominance of zergs, the small role of guilds, the small number of maps, the objectives etc etc

Do you think WvW needs to change. If yes, how would you change it?
