Ruins are fail, leagues will be as well.
Who knows ! Doesnt really matter, the fact is that having or not the buff doesnt make any difference in zerg fights. Numbers still more important.
Yup, definitely trolling.
Can’t even tell me your server.

Despite the troll title I guess this is as good a place as any to voice my opinion that I also hate the ruins.
They are nothing like what i like about wvw. It’s as if the designers tried to cram as much garbage as possible into the lake area. Between the tunnels, stairs, narrow bridges, aquaducts, trees, jumping puzzle crap, unclimbable ridges, sky high capture points and everything else it just sucks.
I feel like they tried too hard. I really enjoyed the open world feel of the original borderlands. They weren’t perfect. I didn’t like the water. But I liked it more than these crappy ruins.
Besides the design, ruins just attract mini-zergs trying to spvp in WvW. I guess that’s cool for them, but it feels like you now need to either join a zerg or party up with 4 people to have any fun.
I wish they added only 3 well designed capture points instead of 5 to leave more room.
It’s easy to assume I’m just resistant to change, but I really don’t see how I’m going to suddenly like the terribly unfun ruins over the next few months.
Agree.
Ruins have basically killed GvG, and no one is ever in the ruin, also for them to be worth while it requires groups of players to stay to guard them to keep the bounus… why would Anet team possibly want anyone to spend their time in wvw standing around? also the big text coming on in middle of my screen saying blood lust is irritating specially since its worth less then my food buff…
Leagues might be ok once they get going, everyone trying to lose to avoid gold leagues was a farce though
there are two things which anet should focus on in wvw:
1) give us some sort of counter for how many people are queing for EBG and BL’s, indefinate time queing is just silly and annoying
2) give us a GvG arena, which should allow you to wear your pve gear, and have matches of 15v15, 20v20 and 25v25 in an empty space, where players can spectate if they wish, with no objective other then killing eachother. firstly people wont block up wvw for gvg, secondly players wont have to server jump every time they want to play another guild perhaps in there own server, thirdly there will be no BL bloodlust, fourthly theres no chance of other players jumping in, fifthly it will give guilds more of a purpose and identity.

BG/SoR/JQ are everything that’s WRONG with WvW, with the exception of commander UI and map bugs
Buying guilds from lower pop servers.
I’ve never understood how people buy guilds or players?
Are there people literally forking out THOUSANDS of real dollars to do this? No one has the in game money to do this so it has to be real money.
If so, I can’t help but laugh at how pathetic they are.

Coverage WarsSeason 1 league will be a bigger fail because of it. Season 2 will be worse without some intervention by Anet.
Those are the monsters Anet created with their scoring system. The second the scoring system lowers the value of off hour coverage to nothing more than yak slapping. Coverage wars will end, and smaller WvW servers will have a chance to be competitive during their prime time.
I agree without some major change to how matches are scored, it will be a very boring season.
I wish ruins were more structural than buffing people to the bone. Like +supply speed, + Dolyak speed, +construction speed, + siege weapons duration, +walls/doors resistance according to each ruin. That would force people to get the ruin in wich they see the most beneficial to the situation. So you could potentially have let’s say +30% of those buffs for your server.

i really wish there was a separate “wvw” that was objective-less and essentially just a big deathmatch-type deal. roaming around and dueling people is 100x more fun than zerg-pvd. especially when all that matters currently is numbers.
I think this is a classic problem of rich get richer while the poor… well they get poorer. Lol.
I think from another perspective is…. Anet needs to admit they don’t have enough population to have so many servers and have somewhat competitive fights. They need to combine some servers, until then, WvW has always been more of a coverage wars to me.

If they put some higher tier resources, maybe an ori node or some Orr resources, people might actually go into these areas. As it sits, its like pulling teeth to get anyone to go into BL cap points. No one cares.

The ruins themselves are fine. I like using them as a hideout while roaming around. Capping ruins is a waste of time and I’m glad to see at least in my current matchup that there is a unspoken agreement to just leave them the F alone. Bloodlust is a broken mechanic but if we as a community organize around keeping the orb distribution even then we can overcome Anets tyranny.

Please no, the last thing we need is pve’rs running into wvw and clogging the map just so they can mine.

Ruins completely changed how WvW works. Leagues aren’t really changing a lot, so I can’t really compare them. Leagues are just another way to determing matchups. Given the abysmal state of the current matchup system, I can’t imagine leagues being too much worse.
fail is a verb neither a noun nor an adjective.
Leagues will be a tremendous failure. Hopefully my server gets completely crushed every week so I can ride the karma express. (Thank you JQ, I couldn’t do this without you.)
it doesnt change anything against blobs at all.the blob simply walks now in a circle around it instead of through it. the same 70 man bolbs as before the change.
Oh yes because 70 men in circle or 5 are the same for Ruins captures and the blob lose time. If a server use a blob for ruins, well, congrats to his amazing kitten commander,.

I’m on FA and I don’t mind leagues at all. Why is it so important to have easy wins? If your server has way smaller numbers just consider it to be a hard mode and a challenge. You probably won’t win but at least you can have some fun, just change your perspective.
leagues… server with highest population wins…. good job anet, good job…
Disagree. Ruins are nice against blob power. Good job Anet, imho.
Actually, they are irrelevant to blob power. They are a killer for GvG and for smaller roaming groups. Those smaller roaming groups are hit the hardest since an increase in stats has a much bigger impact there.
You should be able to hold the ruins for 2 points per tick or something instead of the bloodlust.
The design is nice, but bloodlust is not. It just makes our character stats and traits less relevant.
I kind of get what Anet was trying to accomplish here.
They wanted to give smaller groups the ability to have an impact on the map without being part of the ‘zerg’. However, they needed to make the rewards not too enticing or zergs would camp the ruins instead.
The problems are:
1. Bloodlust is probably not the best ‘map reward’ for various reasons (GvG)
2. The individual rewards for those playing in the ruins and trying to take or defend the ruins is too small.
The hard part is making the ruins rewarding enough to have for your server as well as rewarding enough to those trying to control/defend the ruins without those rewards being so great that the zergs now want to be there as well to get those individual rewards.
I think the buff should provide other rewards such as:
1. More Supply Dolyaks?
2. Faster upgrades to structures?
3. More supply at camps?
4. Maybe extended consumable buffs when you hold the ruins?
5. Maybe more WxP, Karma, etc. for the server?
The problem though is that if you are severely outmanned on a map, the larger server population is going to control the ruins (and have all the map-wide benefits of the buffs) as well as most everything else which will make it harder for you (havign less population and now no Bloodlust buff) to re-take them in the first place.
All the problems of WvW always point to the same issue: Uneven Population in WvW.
Maybe there should be 2 Outmanned buffs. The server with the least population on the map gets a stronger Outmanned buff and the second server with the 2nd lease population gets a weaker Outmanned buff. The server with the most population gets no buff.
At least these buffs are tied to population which I feel is the biggest problem in WvW.

That’s the illusion of competitiveness Anet wants you to believe. But actually it’s not that you ‘probably’ wont win. You won’t period. There might be 1 or 2 servers that are so close in population it could go either way with their two particular slots but otherwise everything is 100% predetermined before the season even starts. The statistics are already set, the season is just playing them out.
The issue isn’t that leagues will ruin WvW or anything. It’s that they’re trying to build something competitive on a foundation that is fundamentally and completely noncompetitive. It’s that they’re sort of an epic joke or pun on competitiveness.
If they wanted to fix up PPT and 1v1v1 dynamics to make things competitive, cool; but they don’t. Building leagues on a currently meaningless system is a complete joke. More likely, leagues are just a mechanism to fuel gem sales via server transfers.
I find the bloodlust area way too busy and dense terrain-wise. I’d rather have an area that’s much more open without so many nooks and crannies.
As for the buff — total garbage.

Well said.
The test will be the extent to which the rankings change over the course of the League. If the only changes are a small number of single place adjustments and a couple of lower placed servers that race up the league because they got stacked by ex-T1 guilds, then the league will have truly failed. Still, we get 7 weeks to see how it plays out.

I don’t believe anything significant will take place during these leagues. There are always servers that have a bit less coverage one week, and they will probably drop a little, and servers with a lil more coverage than usual will rise… for the rest… the tier 1 servers will probably steamroll every other server and win the league. End of story. Hail blobbers… gah.
Ruins had one evenings novelty, but became toxic as soon as I realised the rewards are useless and using my limited playtime on ruins drops one further behind the powercreep grind.
I tried it once but as soon as I saw that capturing a ruin doesn’t actually give you anything, I left and haven’t been back.

Same here. I avoid the wasteland called ruins since it can ruin your precious time with 0 rewards. You may get ganked by quite a few people and find the silly maze difficult to move about. Worst case would be an entire blob storming it which has happened a few times. Ugliest thing in the middle. Poor quaggans…their homes and habitat destroyed by monsters who built them “ruins”.
only good thing about the ruins is the cover they provide when needing to cross half the map to rejoin your guildies … people who say there’s no one in them, aren’t exaggerating, atleast not on any servers below T3
We all knew Ruins was going to be a fail
we all know Leagues will be a failure
The ONLY ones that are either to blind or just dont care are Anet. I mean what company would introduce features that NO one actually wants…
Disagree. Ruins are nice against blob power. Good job Anet, imho.
This!
If capping would give world exp the ruins would be flooded by all of the donkeys on thier legendary quest to finally get this carrot.
Once again its not ANETs fault if you all prefer to play lame, zerg like mad, abuse op-builds, WTJ servers or search for new ways to destroy the fun everyone else playing. Dont blame anet if this game will ever fail because this game was and is without any doubt the best MMO ever released!
And jes i even played daoc for ~7 Jears which would still be a awesome game if it wouldnt have been destroyed by the playerbase..
The ruins are in every way far far better then this old Sea.

How are the ruins nice against blob power? They give you a spot to maybe move around the zerg, that’s it. While you’re sitting in a circle getting nothing but probably a sporadic ganking, they’re sitting in other circles inside your towers and keep and getting sweet loot too. It doesn’t stop the zerg, it doesn’t even slow them down lol.

What is baffling is why Anet does not listen to the player base, what the people supporting and populating this game mode ask for and give feedback about.
No one asked for the ruins, no one asked for a little sPVP area smashed down in the middle of the BL. No one asked for more buffs to stack over population servers advantages even more.
There are plenty of other issues in WvW that are talked about every day that they could be working on. Instead out of the blue they create some random idea that no one wanted or asked about, and expect it to succeed?
The level of disconnect and obliviousness here is very concerning.

Apparently players who give feedback on the forum are only a small, vocal minority and do not represent the general population of wvw at all, in any way shape or form. Anet somehow know what those silent players want without actually communicating with them. They’re actually very clever!
anyone notice that devon hasn’t been seen on the forums since the GvG/dev fiasco?
and anet said they would be reprimanding said dev…….verrrrryyyy interesting.
Yeah, ruins are totally annoying. We just need population balance.

I doubt it was him. I think he probably doesn’t come on here right now because the forums are pretty much against his ideas. He can argue them, but there isn’t a lot of value in that.
ANET has a vision and will implement it. Forum users said the ruins would be a fail. They were right. I’m sure that’s another reason Devon doesn’t want to come on here. It’s hard to admit when you are wrong.

If bloodlust’s stat boost is removed leauges are maybe fun but with buff and pop imbalance leagues will be a giant failure. Anet is trying to drive WvW players into pve/spvp to make money since wvw doesn’t do kitten for them but they don’t realize that wvw is the only endgame that keeps players coming back. Soon wvw will be casuals running around dropping acs in open field and going pew pew.

Very well said. I understand that they have little ressources to work on WvW compared to PVE, and i don’t mind because a company has to allocate resources accordingly to incomes. So fair enough.
What i don’t understand i WHY these resources are spent doing something so random ? There are so many things that everyone agree are needed (commander improvement and fixing population unbalance mainly). Yes some people were complaining about the huge water area in the middle of borderland but why replace it with that ?
Why coming up with league idea while all the games are fixed by population/coverage ? Why not fix population unbalance 1st ?
If at least the devs would just tell us what is the big idea behind it… communication here would be a huge step forward. Maybe there is a master-plan and we don’t see it.
Ruins did break up the BLs by blocking the lake. It does make it a little bit harder to zerg around.
But that’s about it.
I’ve only found it makes it harder to spot zergs moving through. There are still straight lines to get thru and even water channels that you can have everybody swim along the bottom of to be very hidden. The maps really shoulda originally had terrain+the structures break up the map so that owning nothing prevented you from running to the opposite side of the map in a minute and capping a keep.
