Stealth Spammers
There is no such thing as using “Stealth beyond normal”.
It is a Mechanic which all thieves have and usually have to use to survive besides using Mobility which got nerfed so you often see these kind of Stealth Builds.
Is it annoying as hook? Yes it is, some thieves use certain skills, utilities and traits especially from the Shadow Arts line, but eventually you’ll get used to it and adapt to their shenanigans unless they run full zerker.
I suggest you run for your life unless you have the capability and knowledge about what you are up against without being insta-gibbed or dying a slow death to conditions (the latest P/D cheese)

Fighting in WvW is a lot different than in spvp. You have a lot to learn. Doesnt help youre running zerker ranger :/

We all agree that thieves are able to stealth a little too much in combat in WvW. None of the thief nerfs in sPvP exist in WvW, so thieves run a little more rampant here.
PvE Main – Zar Poisonclaw – Daredevil
WvW Main – Ghost Mistcaller – Herald

They don’t get protection on every dodge roll, their opponents not seeing where they are is the only damage mitigation beyond dodging. They also have damage and healing tied to stealth.

Something new to learn then. Afaik one can not cap or hold points while in stealth, which is why you don’t see them there. In Wvw you can try to kill the competition and then cap a point.

thanks for that confirmation. anet needs to do something about this issue. i see people get farmed by one thief in wvw and it’s not fair. i’m a champion hunter that’s why i know how to deal with them 1v1 but it still takes a huge amount of effort from me. i feel bad when i see people get farmed by one stealth spamming facerolling thief.

A Zerker Ranger is a rallybot not a zergling..
Anyway in wvw critical damage is much higher than in PvP and you have Bloodlust Stacks, Food and Oil, and Applied Strength. It hurts more in wvw that’s for sure, besides Thieves like everyone else will be brought down a bit once they bring in Ferocity.

i play thief in pvp and i know how the class works. i just find it absurd how no-skill a thief can be in wvw. if you think you are running a hard spec as a thief in wvw, you are only fooling yourself.
it’s a 2 sec of protection which is almost useless and you have to trait for that heavily.
Stealth is almost useless unless you trait for it to heal and remove conditions. Stealth doesn’t give any protection at all, you can hit someone in stealth. Players I encounter know quite well how to deal with it.

Yes. Why not? There is a huge spread in player skill, some people kill you, some are unkillable and some just stand around and melt even when you’re on the wrong setup for roaming.
It’s great that you ‘protect’ your fellow players but there is no reason to turn thieves into free lootbags for even the most incompetent players.

Yea, all thieves really excel at is roaming which kind of fits their title as ‘thief’. They are supposed to so high damage and not be seen and to be honest thief and ranger are in a pretty bad place at the moment in wvw so nerfing them even further is a bad choice and will lead to the extinction of thieves.
My advice to you simply put would be less qq and more pewpew, most thieves in wvw are heartseeker spamming 10k hp full dmg thieves who die fairly easily. The more skilful ones are harder yes but if a thief is 1v3ing, I would blame that more on the skill of the players involved rather than the class.

if you lost a fight 3v1, you should rethink your playstyle and not cry about the guy who collected bags. Zerker rangers have always been thief food.
Stealth is our condition removal and our way of surviving. Learn to fight it or wait a few years for anet to give us builds where we dont need stealth for everything.

No it’s not, it’s lacking player skills. These guys that got eaten are not on your level of competence and they shouldn’t be protected from players on your level, even thieves, by altering game mechanics.
That is not balancing, balancing is giving equally skilled players an equal playing ground using different classes. It should not give less skilled players the upper hand against a better skilled one, even when he is on a thief, or even when they are outnumbering him.

you know what is absurd? mm necro, any warrior build, PU mesmer… etc. those require no positional awarness, no ini managment, too forgiving, too effective
Every time i go in wvw i see staff guardians spamming 1, i see warriors mashing 12345 and sitting in blinds all day instead of getting a clue and actually walk out of it, i see rangers just spamming AA, i see mesmers going stealth non stop and letting ai do all the work etc etc.
Many players in wvw are lazy, they just wanna spam 1 and collect bags. Nobody ever tries to use interrupts, nobody ever tries to use CCs properly, nobody uses aoe, nobody bothers with stealth trap. Players backpedal, have no positional awarness, just faceroll all day. I salute to all those thieves killing such players, they deserve to get killed in wvw.
Thieves are not even top class atm, in many areas they are bottom feeders but keep crying, keep complain, no nerf in the world will make bad players better.

The true is that Thief stealth spamers are OUT OF CONTROL and Anet will do someting about thiss issue. Its not a fight when i need to spam aoe and see combat log to know where he was 1 sek ago. I dont have all day to fight with 1 player who SPAM STEALTH and restart fight all the time. Like Anet say- stealth from diferent skill its ok, but spam skill to get almost perma stealth its not ok -and they fix this

maybe you should consider using another class to solve this issue, power rangers and staff eles are prime targets for thieves in wvw. Use classes that can get them out of their refuge and chase a short distance. for example; mesmers with blink, focus and/or GS, Med guards with GS x/Sh, standard condi engi p/sh bomb/grenade tool kits and rocket boots. even with such choices they can and will be able to out run you if they use shadow step and shortbow if they feel too threatened and it is time to go before it is too late. The Abundance of stealth and mobility is their class’s distinctive traits and specialty and while I do not agree with the design and its major flows in the wvw scene, nerfing thieves some more in the wrong spots might take away from their only viable role in wvw and turn them into walking loot bags just like solo staff eles. that is all to it. if they decide to run and disengage consider it your win and walk away quick until devs consider adressing the issue on their own terms. Though as long as the issue in not in pvp dont expect much. until then spam aoe and stealth traps or get a build/class change.

I just started playing wvw. I used to just play pvp before for more than half a year (snip)
You remind me of a guy(shatter mesmer), that entered wvw and asked do people 1v1 somewhere, and he was a pro PvP-er. Well guess what – WvW is so different than PvP it’s like comparing potatos to kiwis. Long story short, I found him some duelers. He lost every single duel, no matter the class he fought.
Also – zerker rangers are thieves’ food.
I’m a thief mainer and wvw is the only game mode i play in gw2. i sparingly use stealth in my build and do agree a bit that it does need to be looked at further by anet. specially the current p/d, …well, anything stealth in general. if it’ll affect the playstyle, then they should introduce something new. however do be reminded, wvw and pvp are very different. it’s a group play. if you can’t solo it, hell, bring a whole zerg. brainless? maybe, but we have to adjust to what is present. if we need to get that camp, then ****, we need to get that camp.

well, so you just want these thieves to continue abusing stealth? this issue needs to be addressed. spvp gets regular balance update. anet just needs to at least take a look at how class balance is going on in wvw once in a while. a thief’s easy-mode mechanic in wvw is getting a bit too old.
When they break combat, that’s when you log out/ waypoint. They get really mad.
Edit: I also like doing /wave before taking a queue for another map. Harder to pull off, so wait until you have the queue available before engaging.

Stealth is the precondition to everything.
Are you willing to drop being in stealth as precondition for Sneak Attack, Backstab, Tactical Strike and every other stealth attack? More so, drop all ‘behind the target’ preconditions as it’s rather unreasonable to expect anyone to be able to get behind a target when you’re visible.
Are you prepared to make Shadows Rejuvenation, Shadow’s Embrace and all other ‘while in stealth’ traits work without stealth?
No? I didn’t think so.
The thief’s in-combat Stealth comes from Cloak And Dagger. Dodge it, blind it, block it, interrupt it, even just kite it and the stealth-thief looses both offense and defence. Like so many other players in Wvw who have learned to counter it, these players you were protecting trying to roam the Borderlands should simply learn to fight the thief themselves and not rely on anet to give them an I-win button.

When playing as a thief I try to mess with the other player’s mind. Nothing is more satisfying than running straight towards a Warrior, watch them pop Signet of Rage as I keep running past them. Just laughing at their persistence to kill me when I’ve done nothing to threaten them except be NEAR them.
There’s this weird misconception that in WvW every player has to kill every player. That isn’t the case at all. You don’t HAVE to kill the thief. You don’t HAVE to loot the [Large Scale] off of his/her body, let it go.
I ask, WHY do you NEED to kill the thief. If they’re spamming stealth, walk away. The main ways for them to get stealth is to Cloak and Dagger off you, or to Heartseeker through their Blinding Powder. In either case if you’re walking away and dodging Cloak and Dagger, they can’t stealth. If they’re busy Heartseekering through their Blinding Powder multiple times, you can put more distance between them and you.
It’s such a non-issue and I think it all comes down to superiority complex that is part of human nature and mixed with this pre-conditioned bloodlust to assert dominance over a complete stranger. You don’t HAVE to fight them. Don’t play their game if you don’t want to.
Walk away.

Ezmode stealth spam is definitely out of control, then again I kill every thief I come across. Relying on invisibility says a lot about a players skill level.
The real problem is dumbfire and PU mesmer.
PvP modes are the “endgame” in all MMOs.

I never said that I enjoy or wish for thieves to continue abusing stealth and teleports. I do agree that the issue needs to be addressed but sadly it is doubtful that an adequate solution will be presented any time soon so complaining is the only thing people like you could do. l’m sorry that you are not satisfied with your wvw experience due to thieves’ ability to overwhelm you with stealthing and disengaging at will. However, WvW is a completely different play field from PvP. It does not get the same level of attention as S/Tpvp and in fact the balance patches were almost always dedicated to pvp because the devs believe that wvw environment is too hard to balance so they dont. In WvW every class has a role and thieves fullfil only one role effectively thanks to their “cheesy” and “spammable” class mechanics. Do I enjoy playing against it? No, I dont. If I find a thief that I cant kill in 60 seconds I’ll either call for help to resolve the issue and move along to my objective or leave the fight since it is a waste of time and effort where I could be helping my team out else where. While I really wish Anet to do something about it, judging from their previous balance decisions I don’t want them overnerfing thief to the ground especially when the balance updates are not in their favor. I personally have no idea how to solve this issue and don’t like how a decent thief players will rarely lose, they either win or run. since you too have a Thief based on your previous posts, why don’t you offer your suggestions on how to address the issue in the balance subforum for more attention?

Stealth is same in every game mode (exept 4 s reveal in spvp that is just wrong). The reason why sPvP thieves dont use much of it or dont use stealth at all is because you cant cap points in stealth and you have to sacrifice a lot of burst for stealth to be useful.
WvW roaming thiefs spec heavy into stealth for obvious reasons – mind kittening glass rangers that are not aware of how stealth works.

We complaining about stealth spam because its very annoying mechanic in GW2.
No other MMOS offer player to spam stealth in fight.
In most mmos stealth are limited to be invisible out of combat- this allow player to surprise attack and strong opening fight. But after fight start players are not able spam stealth in combat.
When i play thief in wvsw i have “TROLLFACE”
It’s about low risk- high reward ability mechanic. Stealth give me feeling of “save gameplay”. This mean if i do some mistakes i can always use stealth and restart fight/run

i didnt say i can beat thieves easily 1v1. it takes a huge amount of effort and complete focus to be able to do it, while a thief can mess up, stealth, teleport away and come back and restart the fight. pretty lame, IMO.

How would we need more nerfing in www when stealth works just the same in spvp (Just most thiefs chose not to use it because it wont help you reach your goals there) and you consider spvp thiefs balanced as it is ? Why do you think that playing glass ranger i WwW is viable when you can totally annihilate stealth “abusing” thiefs with ranger trap build there ? Can you 1×1 any non afk class gunning viable build and 2 hands in www with a glass ranger and win (dont answer this, we all know the real answer and it is – no ). Oh and I bet you use 2x bows as your weapon set up.

i’m sure majority of these thieves dont do spvp at all because they dont have the skill for it. they enjoy running a class in a place that wont require them to use their brains at all (wvw is the only place where they can abuse stealth).

How would we need more nerfing in www when stealth works just the same in spvp (Just most thiefs chose not to use it because it wont help you reach your goals there) and you consider spvp thiefs balanced as it is ? Why do you think that playing glass ranger i WwW is viable when you can totally annihilate stealth “abusing” thiefs with ranger trap build there ? Can you 1×1 any non afk class gunning viable build and 2 hands in www with a glass ranger and win (dont answer this, we all know the real answer and it is – no ). Oh and I bet you use 2x bows as your weapon set up.
trap build is not even viable in tpvp, man. lol. do you even know what you’re talking about? i’ll give you a list of professions that i can beat as a zerker ranger 1v1 in both pvp and wvw: thief, guardian, engi, ele and another ranger. i try to avoid other classes not included on the list when i’m roaming.
usually when a thief tries to duel me in wvw, he will not disengage because he thinks i’m an easy kill so i get to kill them but when it becomes a 2v1 or 3v1, they go spam their stealth a bit too much. it is very annoying.

Ironically the sword nerf to thieves, which was OP in sPvP, eliminated the only thief build for WvW that didn’t rely on stealth cycling. The same balance changes also made single leap D/P spam even easier, and more rewarding in the roaming meta (whatever that is). More BP spam neutralizes warriors, while full shadow arts traiting with shadow’s embrace and rejuvenation handles condi pressure decently, along with hide in shadows for clearing a stack.
Shadow refuge also synergizes amazingly with this to clear conditions, heal, and provide might stacks. So this is why virtually every thief in WvW is shadow arts with refuge. It’s very necro-like having to fight a thief 1v1 if you let them essentially reset with refuge, lacking instant cc.
Personally the only real problem I have with thief mechanics is that there is no penalty at all for stealth attacking through a block, and I feel the radius of shadow refuge makes too easy. It makes no sense at all to have skills like protector’s strike, counterblow, illuionary counter and ripost, etc., and they don’t protect you from the most punishing attack in the game. I am saying this as someone who has played a thief for at least 1k hours and is not a random boo-hoo complainer. Sure, we can also talk about how ridiculously easy D/P is, but anet isn’t going to completely nerf the class out of sPvP.
Stealth is a broken mechanic and definitly needs a rework, they should not be allowed to spam stealth in combat like this, and yes flame on me but i think its broken and im not the only 1.
Go figure why Anet allows us to put down stealth traps, they may think its broken too!

Do YOU even know what are you talking about ? Area control is hard counter vs thiefs. That what trap ranger has to offer when fighting thief – area control.
