'Stress Test' Led by Streamers...
They can’t test everything en masse before HoT anyway. It would mean they had to give us all access to, well, basically the finished expansion client, and that isn’t gonna happen. We’ll have to deal with bugs at launch, just like all the times before in this game and all other games ever released. It’s not a problem unless you only plan to play HoT on launch day and never again.
You forgot to put your tinfoil hat on.
Yeah, Anet is amazing like that. All the people in each streamer’s team is getting first class tickets to the Anet office, too.
Well of course its an advertising pitch and that’s why they have people who stream coming in to well…stream. Streamers know how to constantly talk about what they are seeing and doing.
Without discrediting any of those invited, if it was a true stress test, they would be inviting the top GvG and WvW guilds and manage the numbers accordingly. There are some guilds that pull 30 players a night. Then there are some GvG guilds that pull a good 20 a night. This would allow for plenty of stress on the servers while also balancing the map and figuring out any places/features that just don’t work. The problem with this is that’s letting a LOT of people get access to an unfinished product.
I’d guess that in about a week or two once they fix any issues they see with this “stress test” that the public or a bigger group of players will be able to test the map out. This is a big change to WvW because the Alpine maps will be gone and this is replacing it. They have to make sure its as close to perfect by HoT launch as possible.
Anet loves their streamers and PvP championship players. They are so easy to control. What did they say on their presentation about competitive gaming? Yeah right! “Give them the feeling they are something special an they are the best advertisement for this game”. xD

Are they going to show the new WvW map this time? Last time the stress test seemed to be some PvE map where you can kill players.

I like how we talk about low numbers like 100, 30, 20 stressing a server…and yet other games coming out, still in early alpha are holding 1800+ characters in a WvW area.
Wooo, go anet…<laugh>
Its not a test, its an advertising / marketing gimmick.
I recommend that anyone concerned watches the streams, see if they actually reflect WvW, if they do, let them be, if they dont, post your thoughts on the streams themselves, be on youtube or wherever, if its plain and apparent those people have no clue and suck, tell them so. So that anyone that reads those comments will be aware, but do give them some chance 1st.
So the next advertising session will be led by streamers running out of ANet’s own offices…I guess that is so they minimise any potential lag issues, connection issues, skill lag, latency etc and try and make it look good whilst whispering in the streamers ears as to what to do, where to go, where the ‘fights’ are and what buffs each side will pick up to maximise the good looks of the ‘fights’.
Not exactly sure how this tests ‘stress’ on the servers when it’s clearly just one huge advertising pitch…
Any idea if they will actually do a proper test before launch or are we going to get thrown the new map and have to discover all the glitches, problems, cheats, holes, hacks, etc for ourselves after release?
while I can say yep its not a 100% live test this is a major step up from the previous incarnation. There are groups of WvW focused guilds that have been invited and they are organising for a decent fight (and seekign each other out at the moment)
We’ve got a fair few people on Piken Square that are in and we are trying to organise at the moment and are sniffing around to find out who our competition is.
If you have any question that we will be taking this seriously feel free to come and watch tomorrow I’ll be streaming it on twitch.tv/screenag3r

And?
They are not out. Nor is there evidence yet, that they will run well. Not to mmention thay they actually break those 1800 down, either between multiple maps, or segregated zones with load times.

Every public test, beta weekend or event always has an element of advertising to it. This is nothing new.
As for your thought that this is not a stress test, it still is a stress test; they will be packing the servers with the number of players they expect to be using the map during a matchup for WvW. If they find that there is too much lag during the stress test, they can reduce the player cap (which is what they have done for the current maps). Further, any bugs that are encountered will be identified and might be fixed.
It is still a stress test.

Reducing the players cap is not the answer to any lag issues. They should fix it. There are other games having the same issues but they are working on it to get 500+ players in one map.
Cap the number of players in one map. Cap the “WvW” population of servers. What issues will this solve? None but it forces the players to spread across the servers or quit.
Do it right or don’t even bother.

Piken Square will be having it’s own raid when the stress test hits, the map is designed to break up blobs so that’s exactly what we’ll do, play the map as it’s intended to be played and see how this palystyle fares against the two other blobbing servers who can only follow the blue dorito.
The streamers from the last session had no idea what they were doing in comparison to experienced WvW comms (no offense but you’re entertainers, not hardcore WvWr’s).
We’re really looking forward to how a large blob and two groups fare against each other on this map and we invite any other server/groups to do the same to test Anets design philosophy on this map.
Look forward to giving you yanks a kitten good thrashing on the battlefield.

20-30 a side? instead of the old cap of 80-100 each (and the early days when they were talking about 500 a map..lols).
I’m pretty sure when I read the little article, it sounded like there will be a 24-hour Stress Test event, and the whole stream advertising portion of it is only for like 3 hours, so I mean they’re still doing a whole stress test in addition to the stream
Maguuma Server
Ranger and Necromancer.

Hyperbole doesn’t help; I reckon the current cap is between 60-90.

More precise would be saying that current cap is between 0-100
Because sometimes map cap acts really weird. You can get like 1 guild to enemy borderland and you queued and enemies have 6x your numbers.
Current cap is probably around 75 with the increase they just introduced.

Actually, same map and same area in one location and server didn’t break so they are going for 2600 next time …just to clarify.
