The magic solution to all WvW problems
The idea has some merit, but it’s hard to agree with someone who carrys such animosity against other servers who would assume that the only way they could have won is because they are stacked. To me, it’s better if you and people like yourselves stay out of WvW and glad that you think WvW is unappealing.
I play wvw for fun not the rewards
I think there is a flaw of this idea. If you give reward to all the losing side that much. Everyone will just stop being 1st, and stop defending keep if you are getting 2x rewards than other. Result is all the karmatrain and the failure of WvW.
I do agree that giving more rewards to 2nd 3rd place is good idea but giving it too much without compensate the 1st. Everyone will just stop being 1st and do the lame karma train.
And yes ppl play wvw for fun not bc of reward. Still there are many flaws in WvW to give better fun fight to everyone. At least i think the stacking meta need to go away. AoE limit need to get lift more.

I too play for fun, not rewards.
@OP, please stay out of wvw, Mr. PVE’r. I personally had least fun during the league, when wvw was actually rewarding.

Personally, I think gambits should be stacked against the winning servers as their score gets more and more unreachable as the matchup goes on. (e.g. Siege costs more to build, lightning strikes randomly to prevent stacking, etc.)
This would just further encourage server stacking. Winning in WvW is not skill based, it’s coverage based. It would cause far more problems than it solves to further reward the server that has more coverage.

Everyone will just stop being 1st
I lolled!
Good solution. +1
Rank servers as with the Leagues, except winner takes all. That strongly encourages double team of the strongest server.
Great solution, I support this and I do play for rewards mostly (only when I am raiding with guild I play for fun)

Defending really should be rewarded more. It’s a lot more fun than attacking imo and requires more skill because we often defend a tower against a zerg of 30 with only 5.
I think there should be a 100 fold increase to the drops in wvw, but there should be diminishing returns and only on attacking. Hopefully this would make it much less rewarding to Zerg around flipping everything pvdoor style.
Also, the 3 min reward/contest timer needs to be extended to 5 mins. Not only would this fit well with the vastly increased rewards of defending (for loot balance issues) but it would mean that waypoints are open much less frequently making turtle’ing much harder.
Finally, people on walls should not need LOS to activate skills and defenders should gain a 100% direct and condition damage increase against players in downed state.
Even if it means the implementation of a hidden buff granted to players on walls that allows all skills to be triggered without LOS it should be put in game. Defending needs to be easier than attacking, but much more punishing if you royally screw it up allowing for better rewards on successful defence.

i thought the magic solution to our problems was to find a company that actually cares about their mass pvp game mode and a new game.

You know… there are merits to this. Although I’d consider scaling it a bit further and adding a modifier based on placement… If you’re first, there’s a +10% or 20% bonus for people flipping your stuff, if second, no bonus, and if you’re in last it’s a 10% or 20% penalty instead. If you’re in first, your stuff is worth more. If last, it’s worth less.
I think this is an idea worth at least debating.
It’s a pretty good idea imo. Would go a long way to make WvW feel rewarding again (or even to begin with).
It should at least be looked at as a way to equalize matches, since most of the tiers are set in stone these days.
RIP my fair Engi and Ranger, you will be missed.

You mean per match-up right? And flipping something from another server > extra rewards if that server is a 1st while you’re 2nd and even higher if you’re 3rd and flip something from 1st?
This would really make small scale roaming a lot more interesting, because if you blob you’ll be spotted and you don’t get a big reward, because they’ll probably get their own blob up.

They care.
It doesn’t seem like it as the vast majority of the core problems still remain and for all we know, nothing is being done about it.
But, they care.

Yes, exactly. Based on current score in the match-up. I hadn’t considered differing rewards if a third flips something from first compared to if a second does. However, I was thinking that if the point differential is close there should also be no bonuses added… and that actually would work better with the idea of keeping a sharper eye on positioning.
So, conceptually, ..
If you’re in first –
Flip something from second, -5% points
Flip something from third, -10% points
If second -
Flip something from first, +5% points
Flip something from third, -5% points
If third –
Flip something from first, +10% points
Flip something from second, +5% points
However if you’re within 1000 pts of the server you flipped something for then no point bonus or penalty.
The 5%/10% is arbitrary, that can be adjusted, but conceptually… I don’t hate this.
I came up with the same idea as you quite some time ago, I think it would make things interesting.

As you write it out sounds good.
What is the 1 thing driving people to play? No it’s not fun. It’s reward!
The best reward for a pvper is fun pvp.
So simple it is worth a try,.

it’d be hilarious to see all the BG whining if that part about a lower reward for winning servers was implemented. they’d probably pay for guilds to leave their server

I laughed more than I should at this.
Rewards in WvW are fine. If anything, they should be increased across the board but its more about having fun to most of us even though the extra gold income is nice from rank-up chests. You should be rewarded for winning, not losing.
