Guild Wars 2

So this has been my first tournament. I was there at the start, wide eyed and eager to fight for the pride of my server. Throughout April, I poured as much effort as I could into the tournament. But for the past week or two, I’ve started dreading the experience. The feeling of obligation to put in as much time as you possibly can, taking away from many other aspects of the game, is really starting to get to me. Two months is just a long kitten time, and I don’t think it should be that way for future tournaments. I would rather see a series of 10 three day matches over one month, rather than the 8 one week matches we’re seeing this time around.

What are your thoughts on the length of the current tournament, and what do you think should happen in that regard for future tournaments?

Happened last season to a lot of players I know. My entire guild took a sabbatical and most didn’t come back. There is a huge surge in the first 2-3 weeks that tapers off but because these seasons run months a lot of players just get tired of it. Either servers end up dominating or run over because of the locked brackets.

As for future tournaments, my suggestion is to keep them short and sweet or just not do them. I would also find a way to add a handicap into the scoring of the matches.

I think everything tapered off after the majority of players got their WvW spring achievements done. The first week was much more busy but the achievements were so easy to get when people got done with them they hardly entered WvW.

There’s really no reason to go hard the entire time. Even WvW regulars do other stuff including PvE and PvP. Pace yourself. There’s no reason to go hardcore just for seasons as WvW still keeps going afterwards.

The week long contests are ok I think. Just need more variety in matchups and destacking of the top servers.

Tournaments are set for whatever Anet needs to get the next LS content ready or whatever they are doing. As for WvW, it’s just a distraction to keep you occupied to stop whinning for changes…

Sooooo boring… The Honeybuns haven’t wanted to step foot in WvW at all this week, wheres the fun in this matchup. We went in there once and it took a long time to find any enemies.

You just need to pace yourself if your match-up is a blowout or your league is one/two-sided. At least the EU Gold has been fairly competitive http://mos.millenium.org/ I Imagine BB, Deso (us) and SFR will take a long vacation after this tournament.

NA T1 is a joke right now. TC is getting the win this week and JQ is getting the win next week. The win trading has gone on for nearly the entire season

Anyway, I’m not feeling burnt out as I’m not playing more than I normally would. Yeah, I put in some overtime the first couple of weeks, but having put in hours of overtime in S1 and knowing how burnt out you can get, I deliberately dialled my play time back

It is difficult to motivate people across 9 weeks of a league when they are often decided in 2 weeks. It is important that leaders/commanders work along motivational lines rather than chide , chastise and needle those who are tiring of WvW.

In short, make it fun and many will attend WvW.

Anet should break up the leagues into 4weeks of 2 end of forth week winner or some sort of combination. Not 9 weeks straight up.

Same people, same struggles, same tactics for nine weeks. Well as a consistant wvw person its always. Yes though it gets boring and I burn out. Most of this just due to the people you fight doesn’t change much so it’s the same things constantly.

The whole concept of Leagues is poorly thought out. It’s a video game and no ones going to get married to video game league lasting 24/7 for 9 weeks. People want to log in, enjoy themselves, and then log out. Beyond that, what is a world now that we’ve all been consolidated into the Mega Server?

Burnt out or just over it, I can’t say for certain. Though after Season one, I and many others, expressed a desire to never see a season 2. Now before even Season 2 ends, I’m hoping to not see a season 3.

I did not want season one. I did not want season two. I do not want season three.

My problem with seasons is this: Anet made an awesomely unbalanced game mode. And I love it. They let us pretty much do with it as we please. Then for some unknown reason they tried to make seasons which rely on rules and balance.

I regards to this it is a failure and will always be because WvW is not about balance.

Please For the love of all that is holy or unholy no season three.

I think everyone is getting a bit tired and bored right now.
Even in EU T1, SFR is playing only as much as needed to keep winning matchups, sometimes pushing when needed but mostly slacking.
Everyone got their achievements done, we’re approaching summertime etc…
There’s a ’let’s just get this kitten done and over with’ attitude

As my esteemed adversary Crimson said before…there’s gonna be a looooong vacation for many servers after this.

After Season 1 ended I tried to remain optimistic in that it had introduced WvW to a lot of new players who then stayed on to play WvW.

Now I most definitely don’t want to see again. But even as I type this I KNOW we will see Season 3.

How many people used gems to transfer? How much gold/gems were floated around to entice guilds and players to transfer?

I’m wondering if ANet has numbers on how many people have been in WvW this week. We’ve already seen 2 threads out here with early congratulations for winners.

I’m betting there will be a continuation of some sort of on-going tournaments. It’s a gap-filler in content that draws PvE players in. And it provides incentive for transfers. ANet might be able to make more money from WvW transfers by having shorter matches more often.

Hopefully Season 3 will be much shorter.

Nine straight weeks of Maguuma vs. DB is bad for both Maguuma and DB. Kerbal Space Program was on sale last week…haven’t been back to GW2 since.

Fighting the same servers nearly every week I think alot of people have called it a day, and theres still 2 more weeks

Not burnt out cause I’ve only logged in twice since the ‘big feature patch’. (Achieves done anyway)

I simply don’t like the direction the company is going in, until they stop trying to put their hands into peoples pockets instead of improving the game, I will continue logging in rarely.

It just goes to show you that we the players are at fault for many of the problems with this game…..Burnt out from what??? Chasing PPT?
I mean hell, there is nothing different about the tournament than there is any other week of wvw, no point in “burning out”. I play the same in the tournament that I do the other 30-something weeks of the year (accounting for 2 seasons), it is all the stackers/ppt-tryhards/etc that usually get burnt out.

Until people realize that playing to “win on the scoreboard” is not really “winning” anything, than this type of issue will continue.

I enjoy WvW, but 9 weeks is way too long considering what the rewards are. I think the tournament is a gap-filler until new content is finished. I’m on SFR and as it stands now we have already won first place, but the rewards don’t really excite me. If we didn’t get a 1-3 placement I wouldn’t feel particularly disappointed.

First place (for me) = 1 New weapon skin (exotic) and 1 ascended accessory.

Hardly anything to write home about. The rewards are poor even for first place. They didn’t even make the grand weapon prize ascended quality. All of the prizes are pretty much a joke, considering it’s a tourney. So my advice is don’t get burnt over this, it just isn’t worth it.

Tournament is non-sense as WvW is not competitive and rewards are useless, why should anyone burn out for that?

I’d rather level my Ranger in EoTM than play for 9 weeks in lopsided matchups. The last of 8 to 80.

There are only three things that made season 2 interesting in NA.

1) Achievements drawing in PvE players the first 2-3 weeks
2) HoD’s free transfers are enough to win silver
3) The 2v1 match fixing going on in T1

What should make any tournament interesting?

On any given matchup, anyone can win.

I quite enjoy looking at NA gold, and seeing that it is the only league out of 6 of them, where one server didn’t win EVERY SINGLE WEEK. NA gold (T1) is the only league playing WvW properly.

Seriously, NA silver/bronze and all 3 EU leagues have one server face rolling the rest. That. Is. Boring.

No. Coverage disparity and a PPT system solely based on coverage is what makes this entire tournament a farce.

If there were no 2×1 on NA T1, do you think that it would be legit to win every week just because your server has more people/coverage?

The whole system is a kittening joke. There’s no “legit win”. There’s no skills involved. There’s just coverage.

There is a big difference for some servers as they are now trapped in tiers they don’t belong. This effects that server and all servers facing it. Leagues unfairly locks servers in for far too long. Happened in season 1 and now in season 2.

HoD is ready to move up, FA/YB/SBI is ready for them to move up. SoR is ready to move down and everyone in that tier will welcome a stronger challenger. I am sure Mags/DB is looking for a non T1 server to fight. I don’t know what is going on over in EU but I bet it is similar in several tiers.

I don’t think Deso are saints themselves, but that’s Gold league for you.. you aren’t on topic though. We blob, we gank in groups and we Golem Rush when people sleep.

After-all WvW is Coverage Wars it’s a team effort, if you burnout you only have individuals to blame for taking it a bit too seriously cause it’s still just a game, it shouldn’t be a chore, but the way WvW is designed it is.

I don’t have burn out at all. I have about 50 generators left and then i am done my EotM achs. EotM is so fun place that you can’t burn out.

Yea, our low pop server(Kaineng) is experiencing the same thing. Call it burnout, boredom, or just needing to do something else for awhile. We had a decent presence a few weeks ago, but lately, it doesn’t seem like many want to come out to play anymore. The WvW hardcores still show up, but even their numbers have gone down. I think players are just finding something else to do, as the tournament has gone on for so long…..it just gets to be too much of same old, same old after awhile.

I still keep my eye on it, but have been leveling alts, playing pvp, and just doing different stuff so that maybe I will find myself recharged on doing wvw again in another week or so. I should probably do some more EotM, as that would give me somewhat of a wvw fix, and it’s usually fairly fun. And, with the festival coming on the 20th, with Queen Jennah, the pavillion and gauntlet and such returning…..that will fix any sort of boredom that I have been having lately, as I loved those last year.

Log in when you are out manned 24×7 for months and then post your opinion. This isn’t about some slightly lopsided match ups that are stale. This is about servers that have no business fighting each other for MONTHS. Players get frustrated hurling themselves into no-win scenarios for months. Game burn out happens and leagues go a long ways towards accelerating that for some players… it happens to a lot of players.

I am on the other side… sometimes we KTrain out of boredom. Eventually this will be over and we will be handed our collective kitten s by stronger servers which oddly is a good thing for my server.

People with a half a brain that aren’t getting burned out or don’t understand why other would are likely missing the half that has critical thinking and logic skills.

If it wasn’t for the same match-ups over and over again I would have completely forgotten that we currently even have a WvW season.

This is nothing compared to Season 1.

I enjoyed 7 weeks in last place in Season 1 more than 7ish weeks in 5th place in Season 2.

What I found most tiring was having the same match-ups.
Though this week I really enjoyed the match-up despite it being the same.
Especially the start, when FSP really did a great job on putting a lot of pressure on us. I really enjoy(ed) the fight they put. unfortunately I haven’t been able to log in a lot during the week so I have no clue if there still are agressive fights, I sure hope so.

Anyway, Ive never felt burned out, I know that a lot of people feel as if they SHOULD play since it’s a tournament. That’s how I felt for S1 too. But you really shouldn’t feel obliged to do so. I mix up WvW and PvP and always do a fixed amount of PvP matches before I go WvW. Though when someone from my guild calls for help on a map, I will go help, so I still support my server. Aside from that, it’s not like I log in and go WvW immediately, I bet I would get a burn-out too by doing that :\

Just enjoy from time to time, try some new stuff like roaming to (if you don’t already)

After a warning/infraction I’ve come to realize my previous, now-deleted opinion was wrong. I think the tournament is balanced and wonderful, and the things I thought I saw being done by players I couldn’t see did not in fact happen. I look forward to more exciting adventures on the battlefields. I encourage everyone to check out the new promotional offers at the gem store, and if you’re not playing GW2 right now, what are you waiting for?

For the next season I propose:

• 6 weeks, not 9

• never repeat the same matchup during the league.

I am playing on Desolation and we are currently fighting the third time against exactly the same two servers. That is boring. As much as I want to contribute to my server’s success, I feel my motivation dwindling. Too long, too much the same.

Oh <server I do not want to name so I don’t turn it into a matchup thread>, how I miss you and you refreshing AC attitude. Is there a problem? Build an arrow cart. Still not solved? Build another one. No problem present? Build an arrow cart anyway.

But as of now I only get to experience the same 2 servers with their not very entertaining tactics.

You are right, it is the people who understand that much of WvW is meaningless and find fun in it still everyday that are missing critical thinking and logic….

Nope, it is the ones that think the “score” matters, that let it dictate on whether they play or not. But the ones that are worse than that, are the ones that come on forums and QQ about how “no one plays on my server when we are getting blown out”.

Like I said, if a person could think critically, they likely realized WvW is more about the game within the “game” (IE: everything other than PPT/PVgate/Ktrains), rather than “who is winning”.
