Its boring, borderline exploitive and zero fun for both parties. Besides epic lootz there is nothing skilful or potentially enjoyable about using the tactic and unfortunately its become a can’t beat em join em thing. Some drastic action needs to be done to balance this growing fad that current issues like culling and lag only worsen. I cannot be the only one that wants to play and enjoy my character without becoming just another +1 to the ‘greater’ force.

It would be nice if a gameplay designer could respond to even mention that your aware just how widely practised and detrimental to the game such strategies can be. In Tier 1 WvW its essential when large groups meet now, and is boring me to the point of losing interest in WvW/considering transferring servers. I fear it will grow past top tiers who are always looking for an advantage and become the norm :/

Its taking advantage of a major oversight in the game engine’s limitation’s. Mathematically it doesn’t make sense but with enough numbers buffs such as stability and the reliability to pick up downed and even dead members make it a tactically advantageous choice over a broken up group.

I’d like to say, I’m sure there are methods of dispersing combating and breaking up such things but these must be done from the safety of your own turtle. Which leads us full circle :/ If anything i’d like to discuss tactics here and open the floor to collectively bring down this to return open fluid and more enjoyable gameplay back to the WvW field!

Sorry but with no prior warning siege is not a valid counter. Its not applicable in most situations. Feedback bubbles do work to a particular extent and as a mesmer is currently my biggest spike in loot bags :p But alas does not take down any more than a handful if I’m lucky. Considering we’re seeing numbers in the 30’s and 40’s it takes seconds for revives to go around.

Yes yes it is a valid counter. I’m of the mind that everyone should at least carry rams and arrow carts. Personally I carry everything aside siege golems all the time (although I have a golem atm). It takes 30 supply for a ballista or arrow cart… you literally need 2 other people to listen to your request to put their supply into it. If you’re moaning about anything in WvW you’d better at least be someone who carries supply. From supply camps (shock horror)!

As there is no siege aoe cap you hit EVERYONE for like, 5k damage. If you’re organised 3 ballista’s isn’t even that much of a stretch frankly and then you can just about one shot the entire turtle.

The first time I saw a turtle my impression was “how could Anet have overlooked such a basic flaw in WvW”. There are ways to overcome the damage from siege weapons in a turtle, so saying “siege” is no solution.

Here’s a thought: why doesn’t the turtle tactic work in other WvW type PvP games?

Really, I love meeting turtles. Your tanks can soak the damage, your ranged can wipe them.

As others said, many options to wipe turtles:
1. Siege.
2. Feedback (spec it for confusion)
3. Null Field (spec it for confusion)
4. AoE dmg, you will hit max all the time.

Probably lots more! This is just from a Mesmer perspective! Just look at your skills and how you can lock down and wipe a small area!

What kind of turtles are you all coming across, in Tier 1 EU we literally have moments where instead of decent multi-player combat we have entity fighting. I mean statistically it makes sense but this is a game I personally play for fun not to become part of the system to achieve a goal or number.

Your talking 30-40 people stacked (half of which you cant see battering each other) until someone makes a mistake.

There is no AOE cap for siege? Pretty sure that’s untrue, don’t mistake multiple ticks of bleeds/conditions as extra numbers i know arrow carts still only tick 5 people per damage tick. Its the same as everyone else’s aoe’s… you can only hit 5 people per tick but can hit multiple targets and still doesn’t resolve the issue.
