I like the idea of having one of the new WvW Infusions to be +25% Arrow Cart damage.

This is pretty much my biggest fear.

Overall I think the updates sound very nice (it’s been a while that updates haven’t made things worse). I’m looking forward to how you manage to screw things up with this, it seems hard but I know you can do it. However I do very much hope to be proven wrong.

I don’t think you have any idea what you’re talking about. They are meatshields but the dynamic of the class (ie. it doesn’t have one because of its linearity) is one of the easiest to counter and is the reason they are non-existant in tPvP.

It has nothing to do with how many people enjoy it, its about efficiency and effectiveness of a class. PvP is where these characteristics are pushed and tested at their limits. Warriors are a flawed class for PvP, and no matter how many times you may have died to their BR>HB combos doesn’t actually mean that the class is “good”.

You may notice that thieves/mesmers/guardians/elementalists happen to be good in PvP… and they happen to be good in WvW. Its not a coincidence that a class that is good in player combat happens to be good in both venues of player conflict.

No class melts like a warrior under any sort of pressure, necros are lacking in PvP because they are bugged out the wazoo (and engineers do it better), warriors are lacking because they are simply ineffectual in what they do.

my bad guys, you’re right. it makes a lot of sense to balance classes around the game mode that the overwhelming majority of players completely ignore. once tpvp is balanced everything else will fall perfectly in order because tpvp is the holy grail of guild wars 2. this is evidenced by the fact that no one plays it

Aside any personal pov, there’s a little thing called “Skill splits”, who are there right for that reason.

Now, the fact that Anet seems to have forgot how GW1 demostrated that those are vital, and already spent quite some months to nerf ppl in pve due to pvp, is another topic…

A combination of laurels and badges? Why does everything in this game have to be gated when it comes to ascended gear?

I have guildies who have been saving up badges for ascended, hell, I’ve been saving up badges for ascended. We’re what this measure is supposed to stop, I guess, but it’s unnecessary. The only gate that should exist is the acquisition of badges. I have a guildie who has put 2000 hours or so into WvW, and virtually nothing into PvE, and they have 13000 badges. Do they not deserve to get something out of their 13000 badges? So what if they get the gear immediately? PvE players have had this gear since November.

Even laurels are annoying to WvW-only players, because many of them (I’d say 30-40% at least) require you to do at least some PvE to complete them.

C’mon Anet, I’ve waited 6 months for ascended in WvW, and now you’re going to make me wait at least another month or two to farm laurels in order to be on the same level as players who have had this gear since November? This is just as outrageous as adding the gold cost to exotic gear in WvW, when PvE players doing dungeons MAKE gold while getting exotics, whereas we have to spend the gold we make and the badges we make?

I was excited about this update until now, too.

1) badges are kitten easy to get on high tiers, this is so you can buy lots of siege.
2) waaaay too many people are stuffed senseless with badges and are too selfish too buy lots of siege and want rewards for themselves, aka ascended items.

When will that be? As the patch hits? You really need to let people know earlier, especially the prices and the way the rankings will change. Quite frankly having just used a lot of badges on invader gear because kittening grenth is never open now it better not be too expensive in terms of badges.

Nope, i don’t get laurels by only doing wvw stuff most of the time. And you only get one each day, which makes the game super-grindy. This is terrible game design. No-one enjoys it and no-one finds it fun. It’s just a chore.

And ascended are also soubound which even makes it more terrible for those who got multiple chars.

Grinding is the reason i leave mmo’s. But i haven’t found any mmo with a better combat system than GW2 yet. So i still play this game. And i’m hoping they will add some other stuff to keep ppl playing other than months of grinding for ascended.

Question: Will these reward chests for ranks be given for people who already have Ranks? For example will a Rank 60 player receive 60 chests?

There will be a system for rewarding players who have already gained ranks. The way it will work is you will have a backlog of 60 chests, if you were at rank 61, and for each rank you achieve after that you will get 2 chests, instead of 1, until you’ve received all 60 of your backlog. These bonus chests should be available for every player who has gained rank prior to the build.

Are you going to do anything to remedy the discrepancies in how fast you gain ranks and badges between the tiers? From my experience how much you earn in WvW is directly proportional to what tier you play in. This didn’t bother me so much earlier due to the higher quality of game play, but now that infusions and ascended gear are added into the mix I can’t help but feel a bit left behind playing on a lower tier server where you are not in a position to fight 60-70 enemies on every map 24/7.

The 1 laurel a day cap is what bothers me.
It took a month per piece to get one before so I never even bothered hoping that when Ascended came to WvW it wouldn’t require them.
I was wrong, and i’m sure it will still require at least half the laurels needed before…

I’m level 30 FOTM and big into both PvE and WvW. People in PvE max out their berserker gear (for the most part). Personally, I still don’t have ascended for most of the builds I use in WvW for my ranger. Just run exotics, you’ll be fine. Almost every battle in wvw is decided based on timing and positioning, not on who’s got ascended and who doesn’t. Ascended is just there to make people feel like there’s a gear progression, you know, the grinders out there. In reality, a ~10% bonus on a few pieces of gear just, it’s almost inconsequential.

How much you want to bet the best guilds and pvp players could wear rare stats and still beat average players fully decked out in everything ascended?

Seems like good chances and updates to me. I don’t really like the idea of having to stock pile laurels though. I prefer to use mine on the random boosts and items, hoarding them is ugh, so dull. Nah, I don’t change that because of the update.

As an example of this “artificial” stat boost, I have the “all stats” Ancient Karka Shell accessory. It gives me +25 on all stats. I also have the “all stats” ascended piece. It gives me +26 on all stats.

That’s a TINY boost in the overall scheme of stats. We’re talking 10 more HP.

The fuss over Ascended gear is just that. Fuss. It’s just a push to get the “best,” regardless of the fact that it’s inconsequential.

That said…I still have 5/6 possible ascended pieces and am working toward my last accessory. BiS is BiS for us grinders! :P

Will we be able to get all ascended items with this update in WvW? That means back items, rings, accessories, and amulets? Furthermore, will we be getting any new pieces of ascended gear with this? Weapons? Armor?

I would also like to know this. I’ve had ample time to get ascended rings, amulets and backpieces for the 2 toons I play in wvw, the only currently available pieces I still need are the accessories… which, I gather, aren’t coming to the wvw vendor. Also, adding some ascended pieces that can only be bought for badges (weapons, armor) would give pve-ers some incentive to go to wvw.

I wonder if the matchup changes would involve consolidating more than one server into a side to balance populations. For example, put all three current T8 servers together as a single team versus the current T7 second + third place. (Just an example, I’m not sure whether that would add up in a balanced way). But for the already evenly matched medium/high-pop tiers, leaving them alone?

If you can only get one laurel a day, and ten for the monthly, there is no added grind. You simply cannot get more. So like I said, less grindy. What you probably mean, is that it forces you at Anet’s pace, not your own.

Ascended drops in Fractals are account bound. Laurels, WvW badges, (and Guild Commendations) are account bound. Buying from Ascended vendors can be accomplished with any character. So yes, once equipped, items are soul-bound, just like Uncommon/Rare/Exotic/Legendary items (barring a few backpiece exceptions). Yes, getting all your chars geared to Ascended is at a forced pace, but what’s the rush?

Please, no more gold sinks. I already can’t gear out my blasted alts with badges because of the gold cost associated with it, where that gold will inexorably be sunk elsewhere in WvW into upgrades or siege whenever I run out of badges.

i have a question, i hope you can answer it for me:

my main character for WvW is still on the process of leveling. would it be better for me to just wait until the character hits 80 to open those chests, or do the chests have no level scaling?

i ask this because the chests you get from the group events scale with the level (so i can only get a lv40 item with a lv40 character, but a lv80 character opening the same chest would get lv80 items), and the WvW drops are also scaled by level (can’t drop heavy loot bags with a low level character). since i’m in the process of getting my legendary (which will inevitably come to a halt once i reach the “buy the precursor” part), “wasting” chests like that seem bad.

Grinding is the reason i leave mmo’s. But i haven’t found any mmo with a better combat system than GW2 yet. So i still play this game. And i’m hoping they will add some other stuff to keep ppl playing other than months of grinding for ascended.

All MMOs have grind in them. GW2 got rid of the mandatory grind. Everything in this game that had “grind” attached isn’t required to play the game. Are dailies required? No. Are Ascended gear required? No. For the longest time, I was WvWing with Exotic gear, which I crafted, purchased, or got as a chest drop.

Remember, all these Ascended gear for WvWing is a bonus. I’m glad the option is there to get stuff that’s only been available to PvE players.

Glad to hear about more mastry ranks, however when you think about it the concept of cauldron mastry is kind of funny. I mean it’s just a big pot really.

The way it will work is you will have a backlog of 60 chests, if you were at rank 61, and for each rank you achieve after that you will get 2 chests, instead of 1, until you’ve received all 60 of your backlog. These bonus chests should be available for every player who has gained rank prior to the build.

i have a question, i hope you can answer it for me:

my main character for WvW is still on the process of leveling. would it be better for me to just wait until the character hits 80 to open those chests, or do the chests have no level scaling?

i ask this because the chests you get from the group events scale with the level (so i can only get a lv40 item with a lv40 character, but a lv80 character opening the same chest would get lv80 items), and the WvW drops are also scaled by level (can’t drop heavy loot bags with a low level character). since i’m in the process of getting my legendary (which will inevitably come to a halt once i reach the “buy the precursor” part), “wasting” chests like that seem bad.

Depends on what you get from them. If it were just badges and siege, it’d be fine at any level. From the ecto comment, it sounds like gear is likely to be dropped from them, in which case you will want to wait ‘til you’re 80. Unless it was just going to drop ecto directly (not that many players would necessarily complain at this).

Are you going to do anything to remedy the discrepancies in how fast you gain ranks and badges between the tiers? From my experience how much you earn in WvW is directly proportional to what tier you play in. This didn’t bother me so much earlier due to the higher quality of game play, but now that infusions and ascended gear are added into the mix I can’t help but feel a bit left behind playing on a lower tier server where you are not in a position to fight 60-70 enemies on every map 24/7.

That would be why the first player to rank 30 was from tier 4…. As long as you’re at a level that has at least one medium to large Zerg on at least one map more or less 24/7 then you can and will get tonnes of badges and ranks. Provided zerging is your playstyle of course.

This sounded good until laurels were mentioned, now it’s just meh.

People who like playing multiple characters are already bullied daily by not having account wide wxp (implement this already…), now they get the laurel nonsense to deal with for wvwvw ascended too, fantastic.

This is my question also.

I play night time tier 7/8 in the EU and we rarely see 30 opposing players to our 15 max crew on one map. Normally spread across maps we probably have 45 total per three servers (135 ish players). Thus gaining badges and wxp is a lot slower than when I used to play same tier day time, where you hit up the 60 man zergs occasionally and have 30 -40 man opponents are common on each map per server.

I mean it’s kinda crazy that the best source of wxp at that time of night is flipping quaggans in the borderlands.

Oh well, which server should we all move to to farm ranks for chests? Kinda seems like we all need to zerg vs zerg and clock up those easy points.

Not happy that there is a laurel cost for the ascended wvw stuff- seems we are still penalised against fractals runners who only have to do what they like doing to get their ascended stuff.

Maybe they should make prices different in each tier- and to stop tier jumping just to take advantage of this make it so you lose all ranks when you join a new server (but get it back when you return to your home server).

The time of day I play these days we are outmanned most of the time, which makes getting piles of badges a little tricky as well as gaining rank when i play many alts- my account overall would be rank 30+ but as they decided it is character based I am penalised and the highest one is rank 11 or 12…if the chest rewards are char bound that is going to be even more annoying!

Sounds great, but mostly for people who have one main character, like every recent update.

I enjoy playing several characters. I have 4 level 80s and they are all useful in WvW in various ways. Updates like this discourage me from leveling my others.

Additionally, sometimes I spend hours scouting, standing sentry, walking yaks, etc. I don’t have nearly the badge collection, kill count or rank as someone who spent the same amount of time in WvW as I have but only using one character and zerg surfing the whole time. Ectos in rank chests screams “zerg more!” to me, since there is now a gold incentive to rank up as well.

I’m glad for the people that are happy. I’m not unhappy about it either, it’s been obvious for months that they intended to severely time gate and character bind the highest end gear. With my playstyle it would take years to equip just the characters I’ve already leveled in just the ascended gear that’s already available (without even accounting for extra sets for different builds, which some of my characters have two or three each….) so I got a mystery cat tonic with my first 100 laurels (at least it’s account bound) and silly stuff will probably continue to receive the bulk of my currency.

Hats off to all the ones who stood before me, and taught a fool to ride.

@Unfortunately.5940: We could already exchange weapons for badges. Except they attached a completely unnecessary gold cost to it which makes it cost inefficient and redundant…

I meant unique ascended gear, for instance ascended weapons or armor, that would only be available from the wvw vendor for badges (+ gold/ecto/laurels I guess). Like how doing Fractals was the only option for getting ascended rings initially.
