Form, what I read you can be a forum specialist and not post in the forums.
As long as he submit his weekly report it’s all good.

Which is pretty sad because I think a lot of us thought this was an effort by Anet as a company to be more engaged with the community and to improve their image.

Guess i am one of the few that never saw a thing in having a so called specialist. I mean first thing he starts about is something we have discussed to death on these forums, unbalanced match ups. If anet really wants info on that they can easily dig up one of 100 topics regarding that issue.

Yeah at this point I see what you mean but hindsight is 20/20. Guess I should have known better when they made the announcement and demanded a cleaner background than you see applying for jobs in public trust positions.

Maybe he was treated unfairly, but should that absolve him from his assigned role and additional communication ?

I mean this in the most sincere way possible, even if he absolutely hates the replies he gets he should still be involved in the community and communicating with it.

Not sure anyone understand, lol. For me the specialists came out of the blue as well and I am lurking on the forums alot. As I understood it back then, they where meant to be a link between devs and players on the forums. Gather the concerns of respective area, pvp, dungeons, wvw etc using players that have knowledge of the game.

But I am not sure if Anet ever really took part in it or if was just a marketing ploy to please the community. The reason why changes are made to GW2 is hidden deep in the mists. On the wvw forums we know that all too well, hahaha.

As for getting waht it deserves, well I guess you havent been here since launch, unless you are using a second account to post.

This forum is a hostile place for a reason, repeated broken promises, lies, neglect and ignoring the community by the devs and mods.

Saying we deserve it is like saying the shepherds and townspeople deserve it for the kid shouting wolf everyday for 3 years!

That’s complete bs, pure and simple. The “community” didn’t do anything to him. The blame falls partly on the brazen individuals who should have handled themselves more appropriately, and mostly on ANet for choosing an individual who (now) seems to have not be up to the job, or inadequately informed about what to expect.

At this point, asking about Marmatt is beating a dead horse… given a lot of feedback even in this short thread about how much “discussion” happened about seriously broken WvW stuff that needed immediate attention, why would anyone think that a “specialist” was even needed or desired here, by the devs.
Of course, since the esports division got 2 specialists, it would have caused even more of a ruckus if we didn’t get at least one, even if it’s one that never really existed… or did he?

There really is absolutely nothing we can do as forum specialists that you can do as players. The only thing we have that is different is an email that we can send a .doc(x) file to them in the format they want with the threads and summary of each thread.

We do not:
-Get Feedback from the reports
-Responses from the reports
-ETAs on fixes/ updates from reports
-Content notices

Nothing lol

Not really defending him but hes probably in the same funk as a couple other forum specialists to where he has reported pretty much everything that has been suggested and doesn’t see the point in reporting without some type of feed back besides “Hey this topic was brought up already and reported”

That sounds pretty lackluster. I also imagine the reports look the same every week. So just copy and paste every week :p

After a month, everything is just a variation of a previous thread with maybe 1 new idea within that whole thread.

Seems pretty fail. I wouldnt be suprised if Anet scraps the forum specialist idea after the initial 6 month period is over.

Working as intended. You get to take the flack as an unpaid volunteer while the paid employees can safely ignore everything the players say and continue with whatever project they are working on. At least after 6 months they will promote the whole idea again and for a brief moment people will think it might change that time, before we’re back to this again.

Did Chris Whitesides “leave” before or after the start of the specialists program. He seemed to be the one dev most interested in getting information from the forums. With HoT maybe Anet decided to go even more in the direction of telling us what works and what doesn’t and that only comes after it is released in a patch or update.

Sadly we don’t even get that much. Atleast other “specialist” still interact ours is literally MIA without any notice.

Not sure what you mean by this? Just because it’s a volunteer position doesn’t mean that you get to put any less effort into it than you do a paid position. I’ve worked in a lot of places with volunteers and I can’t count how many times I’ve seen volunteers “fired” (eg asked not to return) for various reasons like poor work ethic, lack of personal accountability, integrity problems, and other more serious issues. Not saying he has those issues just pointing out that being a volunteer doesn’t excuse you from putting out the same quality of work as someone who is paid
