WXP for laurels is not alt friendly
Do most of you complainers even WvW?

I like how you guys focus on the one aspect that is unpopular and ignore everything else. Yeah, those WvW consumable dropping at a higher rate and not dependent on you gaining any WvW Rank, that could potentially net 5 levels for your alts aren’t useful at all. Lets just keep focusing on another content group that is OPTIONAL and would have no affect on you wether or not you chose to participate in it.
How liquid WEXP helps with alts? As long as there are useful WEXP masteries to get, all of it will be spent on main character anyway.
When I leveled my character to 80 and geared it to full exo+ascended (though ascended are time-gated, but OK, it can be managed somewhat), so when I do that -that’s it, I don’t need to invest more resources and can spend them on another character. With WEXP, there’s no foreseeable end to the race. That’s what is not alt-friendly.

We’re aware of, and actively discussing the amount of progression we’ve added through WxP and the difficulty for playing multiple characters as a result. When we make changes to help address alts/WxP rank, we’ll make sure to specifically call out the change is to help address that issue.

It was assumed or interpreted that this is why they were added, when all it did was increase the disparity between alts and mains, if the price of them was worth it (it is hard to get the right price for this, as too cheap is gonna create P2W cries, too expensive and no-one will buy them). Altoholics don’t have enough laurels to gear them up in ascended trinkets.
This boils down to character based wxp ranking.
Your team states that Wxp ranks were by character to allow different roles for different classes, for that have to worked you would have needed certain lines to lock out others or only have a finite amount of points to spend, because right now you can be a master of all. After implementation of Wxp you can’t go back because of how ‘good’ we have it. The only option we have left, which has been stated previously is Wxp rank be account bound, but the stat distribution character bound. The account-bound rank would be the aggregated Wxp earned. Is there a technical limitation which has stopped you from doing this?
The pushback from you guys is that just because your experienced in WvW with x class doesn’t mean your experienced with y class. But as ranks are hidden from teammates its not used as a gauge of experience, but instead used as buffs/abilities for time spent in wvw with said character.

So by that rationale, all currencies should be soul bound? All Magic find should be soul bound? All boosters should be soul bound on acquire? Any loot drops should be soul bound on acquire? All crafted gear should be soul bound on acquire? No account bound whatsoever? All of these are things that can be used to level a character.

Either redesign WxP so it makes sense as a character bound progression system or make it account bound. As it stands it sucks a big fat furry flea covered kitten with mange and random bouts of incontinence.

And whyyyy is that a problem?
It’s incredibly easy to demonstrate why not having account-wide world rank is a problem. People feel unable to play alts which increases burnout which either reduces the amount of fun they have (A Bad Thing) or reduces the time they spend in the game (A Very Bad Thing).
Where would account-wide WvW levels create Bad Things? What demographics would be discouraged by such a change? How would it affect player behaviour? Because I don’t see it; I don’t see these damaging effects, and if they are there, they’re nowhere near on the scale of the other option.

Players can use all this to level the character without doing anything. Currency alone can get you to level 80. Im just trying to find out why character progression is a big deal for him in WvW but not in the rest of the game. Im trying to work out how this works. I personally felt like character progression was something I wanted get involved in when I first started playing the game. But a year later and 9 alts, I don’t really care for it.

XP and WxP are completely different progression models that do not mirror each other at all. XP has an attainable level cap. WxP does not. XP gain automatically unlocks features. WxP does not. XP gain gives access to class specific abilities. No classes exist in the WxP system.
WxP mirrors the Glory system, which grants mode specific points that are used to gain ranks, unlock mode specific content, completely independent of which character one plays.
So how about you “stop it”. Clearly one of us didn’t do his homework.

Liete; To remain competitive (and I assume you are as you don’t play to lose right?) you have to stick to one character.. It also encourages stale gameplay by having the same skills/build and this is why Anet must change it. How long before people who play hours every day stop doing so. These people encourage/inspire/command newer or less experienced players. This change creates a healthy active community in WvW!
Is being disadvantaged for enjoying all of the wonderful classes worth a virtually invisible ‘representation’?

I’ve already mentioned the direction they need to take WxP in order to make it a good character progression system.
ANet has until December. The Q4 2013 market is the next gen console launch and given the state of GW2 it will not have a positive impact.

For a total of 226 Ranks. Sadly there is no way possible to outfit them all in Ascended gear so most will no longer be used in WvW. As more and more people are getting fully upgraded with Ascended I am finding those toons of mine that do not have any Ascended gear are no longer quite as viable. It is forcing me down to three toons that I play in WvW now and that could dwindle more as time goes on.
Jewelry Crafting @ 500 could solve a lot of this …. especially if Badges & Karma bought T7 jewelry mats

The answer is philosophically the same as previous beneficial changes you’ve implemented for other game systems:
Karma: account bound WxP and toon bound WxP traits.
AP: when individual WxP is pooled for the first time, you earn bonus chests (if any) and retrieve them at the rate of +1 per additional level earned.
Elegant, balanced, in line with precedent, and treats your WvW-oriented customers on equal terms to your PvE ones.
What I don’t understand is why this suggestion (and there’s many who have made it before) has not been embraced by ANet?
Still waiting for the day they speak on the same wavelength as the player and explain when wxp will come out or why they aren’t going to do it.
No one with a right mind would argue against having account bound wxp. But as always Arenanet will also always tip toe around the issue with some silly statement.
The day wxp is introduced my enjoyment for WvW experience will skyrocket through the roof as I am then able to use any of my alts to help my team. Until then, selfish needs come first. Still annoying to see how a lot of people have guard killer mastery and such and I’m still around rank 50 and less on various characters. If I played 1 character I would have had the masteries already.

By introducing so much power grind, and punishing alt play so heavily, you simply hasten the point at which many players simply give up, because they cannot keep up. When we give up we don’t buy boosters as you hope, we buy into a new game and hope this time they actually keep their promises about not being grind based.
What is alt friendly anyways? lol.
Of course, the rewards system for wvw is entirely borked anyways. /stares at achievements.
And no, adding more stuff on top of it does not help. As for the level vs wxp argument, it does have some validity, though I would like to note that other forms of progression such as MF and achievements are account bound and is quite a boon to those with alts.

Colin, I know this idea has been shot down repeatedly, but I sincerely believe the entire “alt issue” would be fixed by simply having WXP be account wide. Individual characters can have their own sets of skills to allocate, but account wide WXP would actually wind up encouraging alts to be played instead of discouraging them. I hope there’s a chance for someone to at least give this idea another round of consideration.
I, personally, enjoy having a shot at precursors/exotics/rares in each of the rank chests that my individual characters get. If WXP were account bound, the amount of chests earned would drop dramatically. I think it’s important to know that I’ve only seen those in favor of account wide WXP posting here. Any dissenting opinions are met with what is oftentimes rude down-talk.

WXP and world ranks are a joke, a funny one, but still a joke (an opinion of course, but I am not alone in that)….Also LOLing at all the people in this thread saying “I quit playing my alts because it wasn’t account bound”…
Should it be account bound? Yes. Since it is not, should you not be playing alts just because of that? NO.
All the rank proves is that you play 1-toon a lot and does not even mean you play it well. Therefore ANET had to put a time-gate (laurels) on it to keep it semi-legitimate, they couldn’t have all these people maxing everything out, then ANET would have to hurry and rush more ridiculous siegemonkey mastery’s out. If they just let the people with 3-4k worth of badges “buy rank” then it would be even more of a laughing stock.

This. Eventually, you’ll quit because of burnout from being able to play only one toon competitively. And Anet will lose another customer.

After rank 5, all the ranks require the same amount to rank up. That means no matter what rank you start at, it takes the same amount to get to the next chest. In addition, all the rank chests have the same probability of holding those goodies (next to none).
So in terms of reward from the rank chests, there is no difference between piling the ranks on one character or spreading them out between multiple characters.
As far as I can tell, the people who want to keep ranks character bound are those who are mistaken, like you, on how rank works, or who don’t play alts and wish to maintain their advantage over alt players. But don’t worry group #2, I stopped playing playing my alts!

You are 100% correct… I did not know that’s how the rank system worked. Given that new light and the comments made by Mr. Carver, perhaps it would be best to make some (but not all) abilities account bound.
For instance, only the abilities that affect the character’s actual stats (fortitude, etc.) would be made account bound, whereas the siege mastery lines could remain character bound. That would eliminate all of the concerns of having an alt behind the power curve of your mains, yet still be able to maintain the character uniqueness that the devs and the other side of the argument would like to see.
Not at all sure how points would be implemented into this, perhaps two separate leveling paths based off of WXP. You could have a character progression the same as it is now, but then also have those points accumulate into an account wide leveling path as well.

Oh no don’t get me wrong I’m not trying to stir up the “they’re liars” argument again. Point is you should put absolutely no stock in what these developers say. They’re more full of kitten than a constipated politician. Judge the game design by how they design it not in how they say they designed it. Their words are meaningless bull kitten it’s their actions and inaction that have made WvW a secondary game mode and dubbed everyone who primarily plays that one mode a second class player.
Devon could show up and outline the entire development scope and explain what ever he feels like explaining to justify the abysmal state of WvW. “Go play PvE bro” is a kitten ing cop-out…what he meant to say is he doesn’t know how to make the PvP game mode of WvW balanced (populations aside), enjoyable, or rewarding enough to be worth anyone’s time.

Account-wide magic find is amazing. Account-wide ranks would be equally so.
Just have it scale down the ranks on your non-80s the same way it does up-scales the level.
Also, keep the bonus chests on alts. :p
You mustn’t use your laurel for wxp. I find it a very big waste, and it is easier to grind for it where you’d eventually level up atleast 2 x a day if you’re a casual player like me.
Use your laurel for wvw infusions instead. Or ascended trinkets.
Take out wxp (best), or account wide rank would be the (2nd best) or an alternative is, which I support, you can only get rank points up to a certain level, like 1-100, and the rest – will only provide the award chests, and retraitable rank points, just like our character traits, which we only have 70 points to spend for our builds.

If you can provide me with one source of an ANet developer saying players will have to do content they don’t want to do in order to progress I can provide you with three that contradict it.
What are you on about? Devon the man himself said that people should leave WvW and experience the full game that WvW was not intended to be 100% primary method of gameplay.
You questioning me and changing the subject to ANET’s contradictory nature is basically you wanting to argue about the sky being blue….
Oh no don’t get me wrong I’m not trying to stir up the “they’re liars” argument again. Point is you should put absolutely no stock in what these developers say. They’re more full of kitten than a constipated politician. Judge the game design by how they design it not in how they say they designed it. Their words are meaningless bull kitten it’s their actions and inaction that have made WvW a secondary game mode and dubbed everyone who primarily plays that one mode a second class player.
Devon could show up and outline the entire development scope and explain what ever he feels like explaining to justify the abysmal state of WvW. “Go play PvE bro” is a kitten ing cop-out…what he meant to say is he doesn’t know how to make the PvP game mode of WvW balanced (populations aside), enjoyable, or rewarding enough to be worth anyone’s time.

If they removed both Applied Fortitude AND Guard Leech then no one would be complaining.
Alas, such buffs are too big to be overlooked. That’s why everyone is asking for Account Wide WXP.
Having 3 main characters (wxp lv 90,80,20), I would be close to max both those stat buffs. Unfortunately that is not the case.

Thief Rank 1 Level 56For a total of 226 Ranks. Sadly there is no way possible to outfit them all in Ascended gear so most will no longer be used in WvW. As more and more people are getting fully upgraded with Ascended I am finding those toons of mine that do not have any Ascended gear are no longer quite as viable. It is forcing me down to three toons that I play in WvW now and that could dwindle more as time goes on.
This. Eventually, you’ll quit because of burnout from being able to play only one toon competitively. And Anet will lose another customer.
That’s what happened to me. Total of some 120 ranks, not to count the hundreds of hours invested in WvW before ranks came… and now with kittenty ascended and world ranks it’s all for nothing.
You mustn’t use your laurel for wxp. I find it a very big waste, and it is easier to grind for it where you’d eventually level up atleast 2 x a day if you’re a casual player like me.
Use your laurel for wvw infusions instead. Or ascended trinkets.
Take out wxp (best), or account wide rank would be the (2nd best) or an alternative is, which I support, you can only get rank points up to a certain level, like 1-100, and the rest – will only provide the award chests, and retraitable rank points, just like our character traits, which we only have 70 points to spend for our builds.
Or just delete ascended in WvW…. solution of about 2 minutes. Thank you. Bye.

I would be now, AP essentially provides compensation for the too low base health on my ele and guardian.
