What WvW needs is a purpose.

What many of us have wished for from the beginning is that WvW be a serious competitive game-mode(with all the balance related things people have already listed).

Right now playing WvW does not matter, playing WvW skillfully does not matter. Winning the week does not matter. Winning outnumbered fights, or PPTing better than anyone else does not matter.

Now imagine if WvW had the structural framework to give a purpose to doing WvW. Skirmishes were a baby step in that direction, but have lacked any sort of follow up at all.

Make winning matter, make playing well matter. Give people a reason to be in WvW and give them a reason to improve their play.

This. So much this.

If they did make winning the week matter, they would need to sort out server transfers. Else server bandwagoning would become so bad, it would make what happened to Dragonbrand look tame by comparison.

Surrender and serve me in life, or die and slave for me in death.

I don’t deny, i recently traded in gold for that stupid cat with the hat lol. Had to have it but I do get your point. However, let’s not forget the game is free ad provides significant hours of entertainment, I will give anet that kudos.

These band wagoners just ruin the game mode for everyone, wish they’d just stay up in T1 and permanently stay there with their lag wars and blobs.

No more siege please. Make skill damage of people hit gates harder and able to attack walls, go from there. If people want to defend, they need to get off the wall and fight or attack from above with their own skills.

I know it will never happen, but it would be a really awesome event.

I’m mostly disgusted with the mobile cannons that were implemented. Still tired of arrow carts as well, but they really outdid themselves with these cannons…

^^ This, with the new stats. It should be an option at the onset of any new stat combo’s. Happy we have the proof’s → recipe’s avenue, but would be nice to be able to buy rings/amulet’s + accessories under the new stats, on time.

Nobody at Anet loves WvW like Grouch loved PvP. That’s what we need, a WvW Grouch, but taller.

Skill lag will not ever be fixed in all likelihood, unless ANet decides for once to do something healthy for the game. It was stated once in an offhand remark by one of the programmers on reddit some time ago when it first started showing around the release of HoT that it was caused by the number of interrupt calls made when groups collide because of all of the proc effects occurring at the same time. The same is said for boons. I kid you not, if nobody ran on-hit or passive abilities and people weren’t constantly stacking re-stacking all boons, we’d likely straight-up not see skill lag happen.

They already moved reset to Saturday and people hated it. So they moved it back to Friday as requested.

Does a new player with full exotics have no chance of defeating a full ascended with legendary weapons Diamond Legend? Let me tweak a little bit, an enemy Silver Knight perhaps?
Ofc on a siege/3rd party involvement the one with the most wxp upgrade breaks walls and doors faster on a 1 on 1 basis, but again this is WvW not PvP,

You do cannot learn your profession if you only have access to few skills against opponents with all possible skills. You will just be frustrated that you have no counters to some attacks and that makes you lose every combat.

ANet originally wanted EotM to be an area where WvWers would spend time while in queue and also a zone separate from live WvW where new ideas could be tested. Both goals failed; live WvW is now a beta test zone and EotM is avoided by WvWers. I am sure they have learned from this disaster.

I know I do not want to continue with server linking. I want even less to return back to lower tiers being dead most time of the day. If ANet has a brilliant solution in their back pocket, bring it.

New players in WvW already have too much stacked up against them. If they face N months of rallybotting just to become viable stats/abilities wise they will move to other games.

Getting over environmental obstacles (walls/gates/guards/supplies/siege) in a timely fashion allows your team to focus on fighting enemy players and often choose a more favorable position. The masteries are not isolated from player vs player.

I hear you, but I disagree. You want to lay out a beaten path for every player to follow. First you learn this and only then you are allowed to learn the next thing. It is safe, proven and requires no thought, just labor.

I’d rather give players a choice what to do. If you like roaming, go and roam and never be a zergling.

-No downed state (low rank players can get like 50 free one-use downed states)
-Dead bodies staying dead.
-Respawn timers, and/or less respawn abuse via waypoints.
-No ttl damage reduction above 25%.
-All boons except swiftness capping at 40 seconds max duration.
-No siege cap per unit area.
-Slightly less cata damage and slightly more ram damage.
-No siege decay.
-50% less available total supply on every map.
-making camps greater sources of supply than present
-No ppt for taking/owning camps/sentries
-ability, upon clearing a camp, to burn enemy camp supply rather than cap it.
-ability to attain 40 supply with the right upgrades.
-catapult alt fire (the bleed shot) replaced with a fear shot via LOTR BFME 1-2. SKULLS
-rewards for long-standing holdings (1day or more gives extra supply cap and other stuf)

I’d like to see wvw done in more of a structured bracketed system.

Right now we have two types of wvw in play. One is dominated by super guilds that want to win at all cost including stacking servers, spying, and making deals with enemy teams to dog another with a rolling blob.

Then there is the other that wants a solid wvw server community. less blobbing while utilizing “more” smaller groups/roamers.

In my honest opinion a three team face-off should be reserved for the top tiers like the superbowl of wvw play and the ladder up to it should be 1v1 with less maps to fight on.

The very lowest tiers maybe just 2 borderland maps, a tier higher maybe just two desert maps, next tier maybe two border land maps with a modified 2 team EB, then the next tier could introduce three team play with just an EB while the last and highest tier is all out with what we have now.

I think that would accommodate everyone’s play style nicely by simply adapting the map system to be more intuitive to wvw server population.

Other than that I’d like to see more incentive given to those that place and refresh siege. Defenders need some love.

Getting rid of name tags from an enemy’s perspective, so geurilla/ninja (whatever you want to call it) tactics/strategies are more applicable.

I think it’ll encourage a variety of war strategies and can expand from the only type of warfare we’re all accustomed to: blob fighting.

Doesnt matter what we want, the problem is when and if!

We’ve been giving Anet ideas on improvements to WvW since launch!
Anet have hardly done a thing!

We asked for coloured commander tags along with a whole load of features.
It took a year for them to come back with just coloured tags!
And then they were going to charge us 300g for EACH colour! i.e make us buy gems to convert to gold in order to get it!

TBH all the hate Hello Games has received from No Man’s Sky, Anet deserve it more as they’ve done much worse to their loyal players!

I feel that immersion into the server you are currently defending for would provide this purpose.

Maybe if there was a lore based on the different server names?
The server would feel more like home and would give me a reason to protect it.

Having mentioned protecting the world, tbh there isn’t much to protect. If we leave the borderlands as they are, after a week, it’ll flip anyways. Or after waiting for RI, it’ll flip again. Maybe If there was something that could be lost, but wouldn’t affect the game itself? For instance, If you were to lose the stonemist castle, the citizens within its walls would be subject to massacre.

Also, each individual borderlands aren’t distinguishable by server. Defending our homelands isn’t more or less meaningful than invading an enemy homeland.

One thing that hooked me onto gw2 were the books. Once I’ve learned that the city of Ascalon was once of human land, it gave me an affinity towards it and gave me the urge to kill every charr in Ascalon on sight. Something that could work for WvW?

PvP was never a big part of my gaming experience (which goes way back) until GW2 WvW. I don’t know what it is about it but it latched onto me and wouldn’t let go.

The lore is not in sync with wvw. In pve everyone is uniting against dragons while in WvW battles are raging with one another. The differences in homelands and server banners are completely absent in representation. Why?

WvW is a unique formula that has made pvp appealing to those who never really cared about pvp play. That’s “special!”. Built on it please!

I would love this so much, been wanting this from the first time I stepped into WvW and saw a random enemy trying to hide behind a bush or something.

Make actual stealth gameplay work, hiding, ambushing, trying to predict which way they’re looking etc. Without that dumb huge red line of text hovering over your head saying “Hey guys, he’s right here!”

Oh boy would lots of people rage though.

Tbh just balance classes first then worry about the rest. If balance not fixed new content doesnt matter.

They’ve said it before they have a team dedicated to balance/bug fixes which for better or worse they take things in stride. But they also have a team dedicated to enhancements and new features.

A lot of folks just say bug fixes/balance, the question here is really other than that what could be done to enhance WvW.

Naturally, players evolve metas which then shakes up the balance continuum. If that was all they focused on, nothing else would change.

But how would 5 players defend against a blob? I’ve seen zergs been turned away so many times by a few players with well placed siege. Your idea only encourages more blobbing and blob defense.

we want a build-saver/template system (granted this probably applies to pvp & pve players also). can’t believe they haven’t created one in 4 yrs. ppl have been asking for it since launch. I even saw an article from 2014 showing a dev (Evan Lesh) expressing interest in build templates. well, it’s been over 2 yrs & we’re still waiting… GW1 had one within its first year

How the game works that migh be hard, AC’s or anything on wall is easy to clear, and player stuck on siege will end on bags…
Some places player dont even need to atack the the towers, just build catas behind cliffs zones that will damage walls, within no range of the defenders.

Also there is quite a few situations.
The first is atacking blob tends to drop at first defender contack even if is 2 or 3 only want to ktrain empty structures.
The second is drop from wall it is hard, cause (i dont know how t1 is atm) but in other tiers, there are only 3 situations:
a) atackers are atacking a empty tower/keep.
b) theres only 2 defenders VS 30+.
c) atacking server get blobbed hard.

The game design itself it is to much deppendable on siege spam or player side skills spam, theres should be a QoL change on keep design where there were only a few place to drop siege or build from selected siege but would be much hard to AOE top walls, increase walls hight wit very limited place to drop siege.

This would make players having time to organize and need to drop from walls, if the server dont bail at minimal contak with defenders (wich is what i experience more when defending)
Every atack needs to take time and not be a free thing to take wich what most gw2 players want, a easy reward for map GG.
With pressure every keep/ tower will run out of supply they will have to push or loose, the issue is that players tend to quit defending or blob bails out due need of effort.
Something needs to change.

oh.. and sorry for the awfull english.

WvW is problem is that players have different goals and playstyles. WvW could work if every player goal would be win a matchup, but when map if full of duelers, roamers, fighting guilds, trolls, PPT tryhards and karma trainers it’s just one big frigging mess.

Trust me I feel your pain sooo much. I’ve got soo sick of it to the point. I had to make a decision with in the past week. One of the lessor of the two evils.

Evil A.) Spend money to buy gems to transfer worlds a third time in WvW with in 30 days because of highly unfavorable match ups and/or zerglings who call you dumb and kittened for suggesting any other tactic that doesn’t include zerging or backcapping.

Evil B.) Resubscribe to another MMO for my WvW fix one where it is both zerg and roamer friendly, but currently has one of the worst METAs I’ve ever experienced in my 15 plus years of MMO/PC gaming.

ANet and ZOS knows which one I picked. I did not make that choice lightly either. *With much pain and brain ache weighting of the fun factors to the just out right boring uninteresting factor.

I want wvw to be done with and have a new game mode. This system in place sucks. Most servers are dead and not even able to compete at 5% in wvw.

What about us players that view WvW as our Endgame. Lets be completely honest if it wasn’t for WvW 3 years ago I would never even gave a game like GW2 a chance. The only reason for me to even PvE ( killing the same mobs doing the same thing over and over again) was to farm gold and gear for my Endgame content(WvW).

I’m pretty sure I’m not the only one would feels this way. If you kill off WvW and give us no open world pvp styles game mode in it’s place. Then there will be little to incentives to even play GW2 any more.

But yes I agree with you on the fact that matches are so broken that their is no room for any type of competition to happen in this current version of WvW.

ANet already has an unreleased/unfinished feature for server population rebalancing. No details revealed. The feature was shelved while the server linking is in testing. There’s another thread discussing about it somewhere on this forum.

Hmmm, no details no dates and unfinished, so you wanted something you don’t know or doesn’t exist yet.
What if that balancing is completely turning WvW into EoTM, would most want that?

ANet originally wanted EotM to be an area where WvWers would spend time while in queue and also a zone separate from live WvW where new ideas could be tested. Both goals failed; live WvW is now a beta test zone and EotM is avoided by WvWers. I am sure they have learned from this disaster.

I know I do not want to continue with server linking. I want even less to return back to lower tiers being dead most time of the day. If ANet has a brilliant solution in their back pocket, bring it.

Aside from stuff like skill balance (every game mode needs that), what is it specifically that you guys want added, removed or changed in WvW?

Here’s an idea that Anet might want to think about.

Stop the ‘three’ server model and go to a simple two server model.

Force us to fight a foe – equally – once and for all.

Servers keep their names and will rise or fall by merits rather than by manipulation on both the winning side and the losing sides.

Two versus one server (I am not ‘adding’ the linked servers, they are not separate players from the server they are guesting on), no matter what you do will have inequities, incredibly silly server alliances and even internal manipulation of the score on all sides by any of the following mechanics:

Tanking

Two v One

Spies who are playing against one server but loyal to another and reporting all movements

Free accounts, which should not be allowed into WvW nor ranked PvP.

You want to ‘save’ WvW – bring it into reality and let the servers fight one on one as they should have from the very beginning.

Unlink all servers and give free transfers to all who are on the day of the new model and only that day, announced weeks before in an email and a reminder sent the day before the changes occur.

Enough bandwagoning.

Enough 100 man blob fights against 25 or 30.

Enough of the manipulation of the best game mode ever done in any MMO.
