I understand Anet has a lot on their plates right now. It seems like they are more focused on fixing bugs in PVE then they are addressing WvW. I know that’s helpful for a lot of players, but all I do is WvW.

So, when can we expect to see some changes to WvW? Specifically, when can we expect to see them fix castle doors so you don’t take damage from catapults on the inside of those doors? When can we expect to see the flying cheat addressed and people banned for exploiting it? It seems like the current state of WvW forces servers to use the same shady tactics to compete with servers that do use those tactics in WvW.

I love this game, but am becoming increasingly frusterated to play teams in WvW that use exploits/cheats to ruin WvW. It’s not going to be long before I give up on the game if everyday I’m faced with the choice of playing cheaters or just not playing at all.

Using any kind of speed or map hacks will never be acceptable and will always be a bannable offense. We have been banning people for using them and will continue to do so.

AoE splash damage going through doors is something we’ve been looking at, but there’s not much we can do to change how it works.

We do have team members focused on WvW and they are currently working on some updates that will help support most of the changes we want to make to the game. Almost all of the updates they are doing right now are structural changes to the underlying code and will not be visible to players so we haven’t been saying much about them, but we need those changes to be completed before we can work on the updates that will be apparent to players.

We are working on a few content updates that do not require any updated code, but those will be smaller impact changes compared to the things we would like to do once the code updates are ready.

I’m intentionally being vague regarding the various changes we are planning to make because plans can change rapidly during development. We do not want to get people’s hopes up by saying we are going to do something and then have that not happen for whatever reason. We’ll be providing some details about what we are changing once we start getting our more visible fixes are closer to going live, but that’s probably going to be a few weeks away.

While not the most feasible option i guess could you not set undeployable zones for catapults behind doors so they cant be deployed there? I understand this may effect players that are trying to use them legitimately though.

If you are looking for a solution – what do you think about reducing the damage that flamerams take from siege equipment (or from catapults only)?
Pros: flamerams can be used effectively on doors with catapults behind them.
Cons: taking down a flameram with ballistas (which is rare, but effective in some situations) won’t be an option anymore.
Players with Meleeweapons still can’t attack the door.

First of all, let me say that I love WvW. It’s the most exciting game mode I’ve played in 20 years. It’s good enough to make me overlook the other great parts of the game: PVE and competitive PvP.

The only news I see is about patches to fix PVE, balance classes, or iron out bugs in general gameplay. I’ve yet to see any patch information or game update that even addresses WvW. That’s what has me worried. I know you’ll get to those changes. It just hasn’t happened yet that I’m aware of and I’m hoping to see the improvements to WvW as frequently as the other improvements to the game.

I don’t know how ppl could make it disappeared on the map (can not be capture till server reset)

Aside from bugs, my biggest problem with WvW is the gold cost for upgrades and siege. The problem is that, in a lot of cases, it becomes this weird social dilemma of everyone relying on someone else to spend their resources. Surely, there must be a better way.

Really, I think upgrades should just use supply, even if that means adjusting supply replenishment rates or upgrade times. Siege weapons, I don’t know – that’s a bit more tricky. Right now, though, WvW is too often a bunch of people just running around trying to assault fortified buildings with no siege or not enough siege, and it’s just kind of silly. I know I’m sure not blowing all of my money on siege weapons for every single assault.

Therefore we proceed to write a sig.

Thanks for the response, Mike. Honestly, you and the W v W team needs to do A LOT very soon. Currently, there is nothing for “hardcore” players to do other than W v W. I believe most people who love to PvP and engage in W v W will say that GW2’s W v W can be extremely fun (when things go right), but is also very flawed.

TBH I feel like upgrades should be persistent. The battlefield would seem much less generic then. Also, having your walls change from steel to wood just because your fortress got captured seems… odd.

You need to read the patch notes more. There have been some major changes that have greatly affected WvW for the better.

The whole catapult on the door argument is meh to me. It’s not the best way to defend a door, and it’s not going to keep me out of a tower/keep. I’ll leave the alternate strategizing up to you. (I don’t want to ruin all of the fun in WvW)

I like the honesty here, few weeks usually translates to 10-12 weeks, I assume before they have the balls to release an expansion pack next year they will have adressed a few of the major issues that are making 1000s of players ridicule their product…

So lets wait a few months and see, meanwhile, 100s of games out there need playing in a Players Vs Players fair environment that was properly beta tested and released…
