Its completely kittened up WvW. Whilst there was some acrimony before its caused it to be dialed up to 11 and for some servers to become ridiculously overstacked.
League makes those snobbish guild transfer = some servers become weaker.
Achievements encourage selfish play (Demolisher hello?) and attract newbies that take up Que space.
Overall not very great for all the WvW community.
Definitely good for Anet because they got tons and tons of transfer fee.
That’s the entire purpose of this none-sense self destructed league system, to finally get some money from the WvW community.
I think its more good than bad despite bad queue times. Im doing way more defence than I would have done normally and roaming duels happen more often so yes fun.
Remove the repairs achievement. Noobs just take supply from garrison to repair walls being trebbed. Any experienced player wouldn’t dream of repairing that wall until the cause of it is dealt with. But tell that to a pve’er who cares nothing about wvw server ranking and status. More Escort achievements plz.
I like how some of the people complaining about “PvEers” don’t seem to understand WvW themselves, unless there’s like an entire zerg just going around killing yaks when not en route to a tower or keep. I still see the usual havoc squads and still run the occasional havoc squad of one like I always do when I don’t feel like being in the lagtastic zerg (though it really has less to do with the lag and more to do with who’s commanding at the time.)
At any rate, achievements or not, it’s fun making the enemy cranky.
Why does it make enemies cranky?
If the yaks don’t get to their towers or keeps, they don’t get supply.
If they don’t get supply, they can’t repair during/after attacks or build siege…so that small havoc team or solo player is STILL helping take towers or keeps even if they aren’t presently a part of the zerg themselves. They also help break up the opponents’ zerg. When zergs fail, it’s usually less about numbers and more about players scattering and not following directions.
Personally I think PvEers would also be more likely to stick with the zerg since PvP skill matters less when there’s safety in numbers, but I usually see all the same guild tags in WvW that I always have. The bigger problem is bandwagoners crowding onto the same 3 servers. At a certain point, players have to take responsibility for our own role in unbalanced match-ups or else wait for ANet to tighten the reigns and reduce player freedom.
As for servers without queues, those alleged PvEers wouldn’t have been there otherwise so your tower taking zerg would not be bigger for their absence. At least this way more players contribute even if it’s not how you think they should.
As I’ve said elsewhere, achievements aren’t unique to PvE. They have them in PvP, too. And as someone who prefers WvW to repeating dungeons and fractals, I like being able to gear up for WvW IN WvW.

CD will probably end 2nd-3rd to last place.
so no, I’m not enjoying it, I can run havoc squad all I want, it doesn’t seem to make much of a difference.
I was an outspoken opponent to leagues.
I was wrong.
Just look at what happened to my server, GoM. We had been trying for months to reach out to our PvE community. Leagues did more in a week than our two months of work. Best part, our PvE population decided that WvW is fun and did not leave when they completed the achievements. In fact, they started begging for WvW training.
I recently taught the second session of that WvW training workshop. It was supposed to be 1 hour long, about siege tactics. However, our former “PvE players” where so enthralled that they dragged it out for an extra hour with questions and ideas. Then they funded a massive omega golem rush.
Leagues are the best thing to ever happened to my server.
I dislike the leagues a lot. Match ups are not even.
WvW match ups should go back to the way there were when the game came out.
Stacked servers and blowouts in basically every bracket.
Who -doesn’t- enjoy having the outnumbered buff all day ’erryday?
I originally replied I did not like the leagues, in reality it is probably the achievement meta that is the root of why wvw just hasn’t been as enjoyable. I am 13/15 with little hope of finishing. I am now playing like I did before as it is more fun playing that way…..
The league is no different than before, except now you have yet more temporary achievements affecting how people play.
WvW is still hugely imbalanced, and I will not be surprised at all if we see even more people jump ship to transfer to t1 after this league is over. The entire setup of the game mode caters to that mindset.
I still want to go back to the old matchmaking system. Those matches were consistently fun, regardless that it was always the same three servers.
its got its up and downs. its nice to see wvw get its own achievements. tho for someone like me who sucks at pvp I’m forced to follow mindless zergs who seem to rarely do anything I actually need and the min I go out on my own blam I’m steam rolled by an enemy zerg group.
Would of been nice to see some achievements added that wasn’t basically the norm of the game tho.

dub v dub already had its own achievements before leagues. Only change that happened was Anet called it Leagues.
Personally I’m really glad they did it.
I’ve been meaning to start playing WvW since before launch and kept making excuses to put it off. “I should learn the basics first”, “I should get to level 80”, “I have enough to do already”, “Everyone else is more experienced than me, I’d just be in the way”…..
I’m not entirely sure what it says about me that the thing that finally got me to try it was the (limited time) offer of a mini dolyak, but I’m glad it worked.
Now I’m here I’m really enjoying it and I can’t believe it’s taken me so long to start. I will definitely be sticking around after the season ends.
Leagues have the beneficial effect to bring something rather “new” to the plate with achievements and rewards, at least for players who never got an interest in it beforehand. This is what attracts the majority of players, usually.
I can only agree with the initiative to raise awareness about WvW, which seems to have been the Cindarella of other aspects of the game for too long.
Nonetheless, I reckon that a lot more needs to be done to keep it interesting. In the case of a Season #2, I expect way more than an overflow map (which, frankly, seems rather useless to WvW dedicated players – no points to the server).
I used to like the leagues. In fact, up to 40 minutes ago I thought they were all right. But, now they’re the second worst things (behind Scarlet) that Anet has ever done.
league = 7 weeks of knowing our server is going to be 3rd every week.
id rather fight the same 2 servers every week and have close fights.
Until Anet addresses the root of the WvW problem – population imbalance within the matches, WvW will never be what it aspires to be. The trick is to figure out a way to give each server a fighting chance throughout the 7 day match up (or at least most of it) and to not sacrifice the ability to have different server matchups each week. I think, as pointed out by at least a few other people, a handicap system might work.
Is WvW fun, yes, at times it is for me. Is it as fun as it could be, no, definitely not. I just hope Anet figures out something before the competition releases a MMO with RvR that people leave GW2 for.

Uh ohh. I’m honestly curious as to what changed for you.
I have no idea why people even considered changing anything in their gameplay in regards to the “League”. It’s just another matching system that fails to address the gross flaws in pop balance.
Anyone can see that coming a mile away..unless they are PVErs.

^ is enjoying it cus there server was one of the winners of the tanking wars to get into bronze league where you vastly outnumber pretty much all the other servers therefore your winning. We had outmanned buff pretty much 20ish out of 24 hours a day the 7 days we played gom.
I think League is ok, it’s really just another method of pitting server against server.
What I think is not ok is the achievements or bringing the Scarlet pve content to WvW.
Whilst I feel it’s important to have pve players discover WvW( and we were all pvers at one point) I feel the achievements introduced too many at one time, flooding our servers WvW with inexperienced people and putting the people needed into a queue which can be anything from 1 to 4 hours long.
WvW has become virtually unplayable because of the queues, there must be a better way to entice pvers to come to WvW than the achievements, a slow steady influx would cause less damage than the flood of achievement seekers we had at the start of the league.
I don’t want to stop people coming to WvW that want to learn how things are done there and like it enough to stay, what I want to stop is the achievement seekers that don’t give a kitten and care not if you lose a keep, tower, camp etc that you’ve worked hard to upgrade and protect.
WvW is about teamwork and everyone pulling together to achieve the same objectives. At the end of the day it’s more fun and as a team we accomplish alot more than everyone running off doing their own thing.
Yes and no – I like the achievements as the old ones are almost impossible to finish and some sort of reward at the end of season will be nice. Really dont like the living world stuff in the merc camps – that makes those areas really messy and seems like a pretty random thing to do.
The matchups have been brutal for us the last few weeks (WSR), the winning team having 5 or 6 times the score of us for the last 2 weeks and we are heading for a battering this week too. The commanders and a lot of the players are staying away because its pretty demoralising running into such huge zergs whenever you try to take or defend something (I do accept there are different types of problems that bigger servers have).
I would much prefer a straight ladder system for all servers where the winner of the weekly matchup moves up a place and the loser moves down so that we can play servers of a similar wvw strength (vabbi and FoW for us for instance) each week and not just a week or two per season.
As a player on a server that is, quite frankly, in the wrong league due to transfers, it is pretty much a miserable experience.
I have a pretty simply approach to league. Before league, every week was a different set of “stomp”, get stomped" and everything in between. With league ,every week is the same variety except now I have some achievements, and at the end of the league I will get some reward. Simply I am getting more for doing the WvW I do weekly anyway. It certainly brought more players out the first couple weeks and has settled back to more of the norm. I think it was a nice addition and I have some faith they will learn stuff from it.
Maybe get rid of the season achievements. So sick & tired of reading ‘let me take the ram as I have mastery’ or ‘only people with level 3 -5 mastery’. Are people getting worked up over this because of the demolition expert achievement? (you can get this without using a ram).
What’s changed….more people on our server meaning competitive matches. Now a rarity to see the out manned sign which was so common in the past.
I don’t know, man. I’m getting really tired of these rotfstomp matches – pre-league as well as now during season 1. There’s no competition when you’re outnumbering the opponents 4:1 or greater. You’re just either beating the living hell out of some servers or getting the living hell beat out of you. I know Anet is trying to do something about it “now”, but this horrible wvw design is really taking its toll on me regarding the Gw2 experience. The fun factor is nearly gone.

In the same match as you (surmia) we are getting totally over run too at the moment; gone from a 600 point lead this morning to being about 12k behind now lol. Ros has suffered from the same problem in the past of people not playing when the match up’s are tough.
