Why does Anet hate alts?
Why does Anet hate alts?
I know its really weird and makes no commercial sense whatsoever…
They should encourage all players to play alts because the more alts you have the more chance you would buy stuff from the gemstore for them and possibly with real $.
But, I long a go came to the conclusion that the people at Anet think very differently from how I think…they just have strange ideas and make weird decisions…
It’s no conspiracy, just think about it.
GW2 has struggled since day 1 to keep (pve) players busy for a long time. They added some vertical progression to help this, but obviously from the reception of ascended items they can’t rely on this technique anymore.
They can add more cosmetic horizontal progression, but making new costumes and other items isn’t free, and besides, not every player is motivated by cosmetic stuff.
They’ve added constant content via the living story, but again, it’s not free and players chew through that kind of stuff pretty quick sometimes.
So what’s left? Alts of course. If everything was character specific, then just having one alt doubles your play time.
Of course, it would also probably just make you quit. So there’s an “alt discount” in that you can carry some stuff across, like currencies, achievements, etc.
Basically it’s a balancing act. Give enough to alts to make it feel worthwhile to start one, but keep enough stuff character locked to stretch your playtime.
Of course, pvp players don’t really need that much progression to play something over and over again. But for better or worse, wvw is tied to pve in this game.
Personally, I’d like it if there was an option to use pvp characters in wvw if you want. Sure, your stats won’t be as high, but if i just quickly wanted to use another class for whatever reason, it’s better than having to level to 80 on a new character.
OP already states the reason.
Money sink, gold sink, time sink.

They have well and truly fallen over the line into making it alt unfriendly. The system is such that having even 1 alt is difficult let alone any more.
Miranda Zero – Ele / Twitch Zero – Mes / Chargrin Soulboom – Engi
Aliera Zero – Guardian / Reaver Zero – Necro
Oddly the design is setup so that alts have plenty to do. The problem is the pushed the bar so far out there nobody wants (or really can) do it twice.
“Youre lips are movin and youre complaining about something thats wingeing.”
It could have been a simple massive oversight. What does concern me is that they continually tell us that they are looking for ways to make the game “more alt friendly”, whilst continuing to implement ways to make it even more alt unfriendly. At this stage, I doubt the game will ever be in a place where I would consider it remotely alt friendly. Wish I had of known that before I payed for character expansion slots.

This plus the fact that they want WvW unbalanced. The idea being that you will go to sPvP for balanced fights (and make it an e-sport for ANet – forget the fact that its BORING).
The Warrior turns to the guardian and says, “Did you hear something?”
Guardian replies, “No, but how’d the elementalist die?”
they hate alts cause everyone employee of Anet only have one character they play. Obviously they have no need to worry about alts.
There I’ll add another unsupported asinine assumption to the list to give people more things to complain aobut.

My point has been substantiated, however i hesitate to provide the link because I don’t want to get banned again.
