Thank you for stepping up to volunteer for the position! I understand you are under some heavy restrictions as well as becoming a something of a target for a few of the more irate posters here, it’s a big reason why I did not apply for the spot. You have my respect.

You are aware that they have specialists in PvE, Dungeons and PvP forums as well, right?
The job of the devs is to develop the product. Not interacting with the raging people on the forums.
The whole point of the specialist system is to have someone putting together a good list of things for the devs, so that they can see it in an ordered way instead of wasting time going through posts full of rage and abuse. Which is a good thing for both us and them.
So please, enlighten me, I’ve been put of the loop I guess – what is the point of this Forum Specialist thing?
As far as history goes for the WvW and Dev communication, it’s very difficult to believe that somehow suddenly Arena Net has realized that talking to the player base is actually fundamentally important – listening to feedback and suggestions and implementing them into the game.
As far as I can tell, and by all means, prove me wrong, I’ll be more than happy – this is just another way for arena net to avoid talking to the player base (WvW) directly and instead they’re using proxy people to create an illusion that they’re actually care, which we all know isn’t the case.
Their paid moderators are probably being downsized or burned out so they’re getting players to fill the void.
Players will take all the forum discussions and summarize them for the official community managers to summarize even further before handing off information to the developers.
The developers will then see a giant WvW sticker at the top and throw those suggestions directly in the garbage.
Business as usual.
But best of luck to Marmatt. Hopefully he can get some real discussion going and maybe ANet will prove me wrong too.

Greetings Marmatt. Truth be told your stats are not so inspiring for someone to represent the WvW community, but stats are not everything. You seem like a guy that really wants to work with the community and offer; and for that I am really really glad.
I would like to recommned you to check this site : http://www.gw2wvw.net/ which is the unofficial player – driven WvW website (alot of drama there, careful). You can check “Servers” option all WvW community websites. It would be a nice idea if you could contact the community leaders and arrange discussions with them. Also if you like you can ask for a transfer so you can experience most of the problems on those servers.
Try working outside of the official forums, you will find more.

I in no way mean this to be derogatory but your current WvW stats would not get you into even the semi serious WvW guilds. How can we trust in a “specialist” who was never actively involved with the forums and certainly is no serious WvW player.
A commander can make 2k+ kills easily in a week and sometimes even more in one single evening in primetime. So we do have to wonder what you’ve done with your time in WvW.
So please Anet if you are to employ a “WvW Forum Specialist” should they not be a specialist in at least one of the areas of subject (forums/WvW)?

WvW Forum Specialist must be selected by WvW community, someone we believe, someone who spends at least 70% of his time in WvW, not some random person / with all due respect Marmatt.8590 / who barely set foot in WvW.
You’re so far away from the problems that WvW players have over the past two years, some of them date back to the beginning.
You will never be able to tell what is important for us and what is not, as I will never understand the problems of PvE and sPvP players simply because I do not play those two game modes.
Good luck Marmatt. I don’t agree with the rude attitude people (especially the PPT heroes LOL) are giving you here but I can understand their mindset given your WvW stats and posting history. People want to see how passionate you actually are about WvW to ensure you can help give the developers the proper feedback to get this game mode the attention it desperately needs.
While I am still doubtful of any significant changes resulting from this specialist program, at least this might be better than the stellar communication the WvW devs (or rather, dev) have been treating us to. There are a ton of threads here with good feedback (maybe look for almost unanimous agreement in threads if you don’t feel that you’re experienced on the subject matter) in them, you should probably start off from there if you want people warm up to your presence here sooner than later.

The worrying thing is that you consider those stats to be sufficient to be defined as a ‘specialist.’ Your rank is disproportionately low compared with the number of hours you’re claiming you’ve put into the game. That means most of your in-game focus has likely been elsewhere and not in WvW.

That alone probably disqualifies most of the more active members of the WvW Forums.

No. Posters are infracted for posting in a manner that violates the forums code of conduct. Not for expressing their opinion in this particular subforum. It may aide you to understand the difference.

Anet chooses someone to filter information and send them reports…all this guy needs to do is write a report of the most common topics or most important information according to the ppl he is representing.

Exactly, less than 6k kills, bronze soldier would barely be worth the effort of targeting you to kill on an enemy server. And now you plan to spend all your time on the forums documenting WvW issues, when you barely play WvW to begin with? I’m sure you’re a decent person with writing skills, but you are clearly not a WvW specialist in any way, let alone in the same capacity as the PvE or PvP specialists are which were assigned to those game modes.
Honestly we expect nothing from you, because we expect nothing from Anet, so the appointment is little more than an appropriate symbol of the mound of bitterness that is our relationship with Anet.
On another note, I see LordKrall is still stanning hardcore forever and ever for anet. Still a better love story than Twilight.

Anet ignores wvw for 2+ years (except for when they decide to do something awful to it like arrow cart mastery) and then they expect us to believe that a guy with next to no wvw experience is going to somehow communicate to them and get things fixed?
The problem isn’t that they don’t know what’s wrong with wvw, it’s that they don’t care and don’t want to spend the time or resources to do anything about it
Marmatt, you are certainly getting the WvW forum treatment. I’d believe you represent the average WvW player, considering your rank, time spent in WvW, and kills.
The only thing you’ve ommitted is whether or not you’re also a commander, but, that’s not so important for your work here.
I’ll hope that you can see through the vitriol that you are going to get a lot of ( and already have), and get to the nuggets of really very good advice that can be found on this forum, there are many.
I hope that you’ll look closely at many of the most frequent posters to this forum – your thread has almost everyone who comes here for entertainment in it already. Get a feel for their voices, their sarcasm, and do what you can to try and understand what has driven them over the wall with frustration.

I’m no Anet apologist, I’ve put my share of criticism on these boards but seriously folks.
Plus one doesn’t need to have tremendous stats to be knowlageable about WvW. Home BL defenders for example may not have impressive stats but they know a heck of a lot about the game. Much more than a Zerging 1 pressing Staff Guardian tagging everything in sight but contributing little to their server.
Most people don’t really care about your wvw stats as they are hardly reflective of your knowledge… for all we know you could be a roamer or a scout.
BUT… unless this is your 3rd account ready in waiting after the last two were banned for arguing with the mods… then you are not really qualified for the position.
Before anyone will respect you… You need something like this:

After this info we might think your some WvW guru or just a joke.
He/she/it posted an application when ArenaNet opened applications for the forum specialists and they found that he/she/it was the best alternative of those that applied?
It most likely have a grand total of nothing at all about in-game stuff but rather the abilities shown when using the forums and such. The point of the forum specialists is after all to “tag” good ideas and such to make it easier for the devs to find them.
If he can find the ‘wvw dev’ to pass the ‘tag’ to, hopefully he let’s us know that he found him, because wherever the devs are at the moment it’s no where near these forums or wvw.
(waits for ’there’s a new map coming’..yeah, one in 2+ years, and no doubt full of holes as it’s unlikely that they run a beta test with real wvw players so we can expect glitches, people running through walls, etc which take years for them to acknowledge as problems never mind fix).
Maybe if we had a dev we wouldn’t need the ‘forum specialist’?

We done exactly this before. Several times. In fact every few months we get a new community manager who asks exactly this of us, and then nothing… until the new community manager comes as a replacement. You would think the WvW forum specialist would be more sensitive to this as it’s an extremely sore point within the community.

You bring this out to show that you are experienced… so you’re not even aware these aren’t the stats of a WvW player?
On your ZoS application it says you’ve commanded for a year and a half, what’s your commander’s name? What are your thoughts on NSP’s current experience in T3?

A lot of players here will have 5000+ hours, rank 1700+, 14k+ AP, and over 125k+ kills! And over 12 pages of posts in their forums profile section, where almost all of their posts are in the WvW Discussions section!
Someone who really represents the WvW community will have at least 1 banned account, and a second which lots of infractions and temporary suspensions, and a third account ready for when their 2nd is also banned. Why? Because these people are willing to argue with the mods and devs and are not afraid to put their honest opinions forward, even if they are opinions anet does not like!
They stopped infracting me. :/ Not sure if they are still trying to force their truth down our throats, seems more like they are ignoring whatever we say.
Marmatt, you may have the best intentions, but, you see, the people are really tired of Arena Net.
People have posted countless of great suggestions and well thought out constructive criticisms over the years and they’ve all gone straight outside the window.
People are bitter, and rightfully so. Instead of talking to us directly, they try to use someone as a proxy for their PR.
You could start a new CDI or a thread, but given the history of Arena Net and their way of collecting data and listening to WvW players, I doubt anyone would hope any of it would ever get implemented in game.

eport to who exactly? CDI proved to be a waste of time, apart from coloured commander tags which even then they screweed up and had to rapidly fix after the kittenstorm over the pricing, which showed them to be clueless about how little gold most wvw players ever make playing wvw.

The purpose of this thread was not for the lot of you to criticize Marmatt’s credentials as the WvW forum specialist. He created this thread to introduce himself and let you all know that he wants to do the best job he is capable in communicating what the people of this subforum deem important.
If you feel his WvW experience isn’t up to snuff to take on this responsibility, keep it to yourself. Instead, wait and see how he does, and if you still feel he isn’t good enough, maybe apply yourself when his stint is up instead of complaining about it.
He is more than his post count and in-game stats. Give him a chance and who knows, he might just surprise you.
