This is not a ‘fix it or I quit thread’, but a legitimate question.

Why should I attempt playing WvW right now?

I play this game for WvW, it is the only thing I truly enjoy on GW2. My guild also has many people who share my enjoyment of WvW and we are quite a large guild. Transferring to another server is simply not an option for us due to our size and our affinity for the server we are on (and have been on since Day 1).

I am also the main commander of my guild, and ‘rallying the troops’ and leading them generally falls into my hands. I spent legitimately 3-4 hours in queue last night (which is understandable I guess since it’s reset), but hell it is now Saturday and I have spent nearly 2 hours trying to get my guild into a borderland. These long queues are NOT ALLOWING GUILD PLAY. It completely defeats the purpose of a group/team oriented game if you cannot get your group together even though theyre online.

Here are some issues I see:
1) I am not making it in while those who queue up after me ARE making it in.
2) The queue is NOT a queue, this is VERY misleading. It acts more like a lottery than it does a queue system. Fix your terminology or fix this BS ‘queue’ system.
3) With the WvW populations of each server skyrocketing as they have been due to the implementation of PvE (achievements) into the WvW Leagues, it is only fair to know your queue position and if you even have a chance to make it in each night
4) Have some sort of notification to let me know my “queue” has popped. Do I really have to sit here and watch my screen for HOURS just to see if a little box has popped up on my screen giving me the ‘good news’ of a queue pop? Hell, send me a freaking text message, phone call, Facebook wall post, I dont care. Let me do something else so I dont go insane watching my screen.
5) Need I mention the INSANE skill lag/server lag that occurs? That horse has been beaten enough already.

This system is broken, but thats not news to anybody who WvWs on Tier 1 servers. It’s not fair to the players who truly play for WvW with it being the highlight of their time spent on GW2. Right now GW2 for me is a $60 DMV line simulator

EDIT: I take that back, even the DMV gives you an order/number.

Dont turn this into an anti-SoR thread :P

We never have had queues during times we have them now. It’s not transfers, as we really havent gotten a large dose of them. It’s the PvE achievements being added to WvW & the more intense competition that have lit a fire under everybodys butts and gotten them into WvW.

The problem is that ANet did not prepare for the influx of people queuing up for WvW.

Oh I personally have nothing against SoR (well maybe that one fellow who’s name starts with an i), I’m just saying these actions contributed to what you are experiencing now.

And we were all cautioned about it back in September:

I’d just like to make a note of one thing that I think people aren’t considering when they transfer to stacked worlds. You will not, repeat will not, be able to receive the reward based on overall world place in the league, unless you achieve the meta achievement for the season. If you aren’t able to get into WvW much, you won’t get the rewards. So it is absolutely taking a risk to transfer to a world that has a large WvW population.

I’m just saying you need to have a conversation with your server and all get on the same page.

The problem is that ANet did not prepare for the influx of people queuing up for WvW.

Oh they absolutely did advise people to consider the incoming pve crowd, but seems few did.

Yes but why have the old school players and guilds of the server be penalized? If anything ANet made it more enticing for people to transfer to so called ‘stacked’ servers. The more stacked the server, the better odds of getting the rewards. By adding rewards for winning, people will move to servers who are overly stacked to have the best possible chance of winning. It has created an avalanche effect. To be fair, during NA prime time where myself and my guild plays, we’ve only really acquired 1 guild since leagues were announced, and that is RISE. They do not run big numbers every night, and even when they do have big numbers they usually only have ~30 people maximum.

The fact is, the moment Devon posted the above post in September, you guys should have circled the wagons and actually try to deflect any incoming players and guilds. That didn’t happen. The opposite did really. The “arms race” kicked into high gear with all the NA t1 servers instead.

It wasn’t hard to predict there would be this mass pve influx and resultant queues. It just took a bit of foresight.

The “avalanche effect” would have a more solid footing as an argument if those above posted recruitment threads hadn’t been constantly bumped, making it appear SoR still needed players. Both threads were bumped even after the leagues started up. Check the dates on them. Heck, one was even bumped today

Now, not it’s not nice to threaten NA/Oceanic players.

You do realize people see “NA” and have different ideas of what constitutes “late” right? You’re side-skirting the crux of the issue — which is you all need to get on the same page. Keep recruiting? Then you can’t complain about the queues. Stop recruiting? Then make sure everyone else knows this, too. Heck, even the other thread was bumped five days after the leagues had started — and we all know everyone knew by then about the queues.

You see what I’m saying?

Also, for posterity, I’m going to give you a quote from me on September 29:

What I don’t think people are factoring in is the pve crowd and their need to complete any achievement meta that anet releases. Almost every server will see an increase in participation, and the top tier servers will likely see their wvw population at least triple overnight as everyone races to get their points done. Imagine three times the current numbers playing trying to get into the map? How long do you think the queues will be then? Heck, look how many turned out for Teakettle. As well, a lot of these pve folks will be geared in yellows and greens and (gasp) glass cannon builds that are used to NPC fighting.

Yes the map queues may be manageable now, but I suspect it will be at the very least patience testing for the regular WvWers and I anticipate thread upon thread of people screaming over this issue when the wvw meta achievement rolls out.

R12 EU here, literally exactly the same situation as the OP posted – we have not had a recruitment thread in at least half a year, never had constant queues on any other maps than 2 in the past 6 months, and again in that time only maybe 3 small guilds have joined the server that are still here fighting; on top of that I just got out of EB at 2:00am Server time, where there was a lovely queue \o/
If it’s happening here then I really don’t get the anti-T1 responses :/

When people asked for better achievements in WvW, we meant something like divide the original ones by 3 or 5 or something, not make something that can be completed entirely within 2 days for the achievement hunters to come crawling out of Orr for.

EU silver league is a different beast though. All the top GvG guilds got together and decided to head down your way to avoid the queues. It subsequently attracted a lot of other players too. So while you may not have put up a recruitment post, they kind of did it for you.

I actually have to come to the defense of my server mate on this one. Every recruitment post made by Sanctum of Rall has been directed at off-hours players.

As an off-hours player myself, I will tell you that I deal with no queues. There’s still plenty of room on SoR for off-hours players. There are always at least 2 maps that have no queues and the ones with queues (home bl/eb) are always under 5 minutes.

As he says, we’ve deflected almost every NA guild that has approached us about transferring here but we’ve been unable to stop fairweather players from moving to our server. His guild, like of most of our NA guilds, are being punished for playing good. It’s a terrible system…

Recruiting guilds that WvW isn’t the problem. Stop saying it is. It’s never been the problem. Guilds that transferred to T1 servers did so weeks in advance of leagues. We didn’t have these kind of queues back then, but we do now. It’s not because of transfers.

I have sympathy for this SoR guy cause I’ve had the same problem in Blackgate, the least stacked server out of the T1 servers at the moment. 5 hour queue to get into a borderland. Have only gotten into EBG once after a 30 minute queue at around 3am PST. That’s NEVER happened before.

I’ve just been PvEing while waiting these days. Doing all these PvE stuff with my WvW gear isn’t fun.

The older thread appears to be a general recruitment thread, outlining how strong SoR is and encouraging people to join no?

It was also last bumped Oct. 22.

This isn’t an attack, there’s no need for defense. I’m actually trying to outline why there’s issues now because there was a lack of consideration about the pve influx, when everyone had been warned about it weeks before the leagues started.

Go read that other thread. It appears to want as many players as possible, no matter what time they play.

All three T1 NA servers were madly recruiting right up to the start of the leagues, some even after it. And I didn’t say guilds only. These kind of threads attract tons of solo players as well. From Sept. 29:

You are on a stacked server. NA T1 servers were stacked long before any mention of leagues were made. A situation finally occurred which penalized you for that. Coming from a server that is not stacked and has to fight against T1 servers and seeing the rather smug match up threads, I hardly have any sympathy. Its not rocket science and has been said over and over many times, want reduced queue’s …. transfer to a lower population server.

Hoping A-net prioritises fixing the queues though – last night i was queued for 45 mins, then i went to character select and back, clicked on Eternal Battlegrounds and was ported in 2 minutes.

If you find yourself waiting for ages, try re-queueing – seems to work for me.

Just reading this now (went to bed shortly after my last post). As for Gandara, not sure. What I think probably is happening is you guys had a solid smaller wvw core, and the bulk of your server was pve-based. With the introduction of the leagues and the WvW meta, all your players have suddenly come out of the woodwork?

This isn’t necessarily a bad thing if you invest in training/recruiting them while they’re on map. Vizunah did this, they embraced their pve crowd and made wvw inclusive — the result is significant, particularly if you’re facing them. If you can even retain 10%, that’s a significant boost to your core WvW numbers when the leagues are over, particularly if you’re seeing massive queues on your maps without any of the GvG leagues or recruitment posts.

3) With the WvW populations of each server skyrocketing as they have been due to the implementation of PvE (achievements)

Get over yourself.

The achievements aren’t “PvE” anymore than you leading a group of guildmates to AOE-spam Stonemist Castle to death is “PvE.”

You can argue about whether adding achievements was a good thing or not, but acting like the achievements are “PvE”, or that PvE is somehow a lesser form of gameplay, is nothing more than pure ego on your part and makes you look like a kid whining about that one kid down the street having the same bike as him.

WvW populations skyrocketing is a GOOD THING. More people playing WvW means ArenaNet will become interested in spending more development time working on improving the gamemode, and it’ll give you more chances to meet new players and in general provide a less stagnant sub-community than there was before.

Yeah, I agree – the mislabeled queue system is a kitten and a half, and there are definitely some improvements that need to happen sooner rather than later, but bashing other players for being new to the gamemode isn’t really going to strengthen your argument, it’s just going to make you look like an kitten .

I’m still really confused as to why Gandara is going through all of this despite having done none of the above and no ‘best GvG’ guilds on it or near it.

I think I’ve had to spend maybe 20 minutes in queue, like… once. On the weekend.

Otherwise? No queue. Some of the people on the server (especially the ones that talk about being “best 3 commanders on [the] server”) are complete kittens, but for the most part I haven’t had many problems poking my head in for some WvW in between doing other stuff.

I did some WvW earlier tonight and actually left because it was just too godkitten ed blobby to be any fun, though it was kind of funny seeing probably 150 or more players in a single area all just kind of lagging around in circles while spamming AOEs.

My main source of irritation is the perpetual ~2hour queues since leagues, constant skill lag, and the dc-ing every day.

Wait 2 hours staring at your screen to get in → Can’t even play properly because of lag → Get dc’d → Rinse and repeat.

In most of the Gandara WvW crowd’s opinion, the sooner the queues go the better, I think.

This system is broken, but thats not news to anybody who WvWs on Tier 1 servers. It’s not fair to the players who truly play for WvW with it being the highlight of their time spent on GW2.

You have the means to bypass the queues; you just refuse to take it up.

The system is not broken, but something else obviously is.

If you’re implying that we should transfer; then please read the OP’s original post. [HL] is a 500 member PvX guild. So, transferring is out of the question(As stated in the original post). Also, [HL] is a guild that was created on SoR back when we were tier 3. We’re very dedicated to SoR.

The new guilds we’ve gotten from transfers is not what the problem is. It’s the PvE Achiev hunters that have increased the que times. I see people off commander tags just trying for achiev points.(I must add these people are either up-levels or are wearing their PvE gear in which case they’re rally bait for the enemy)

I have no issue with new players/pvers trying WvW out, but when they’re not playing WvW the way it’s intended(Competitively). That’s where I have the issue.

As stated by the OP; WvW is the ONLY reason I play GW2. It’s what brought me to this game and it’s what keeps me here. Tier 1 is where the fights are 24/7. So, even on an individual level to transfer would be out of the questions. Tier 1 is competitive.

I don’t get how this last part has much to do with me, unless you’re on Gandara, in which case you must play some time around midnight or else have the divine favour of the queue gods. To me it sounds like you reside on one of the lower ‘tier’ servers – if that’s true then I still don’t understand what point you’re trying to make to me.
