We also had the same thing happen across the SoR BLs. The moment reset happen, about half a second later we had 3-7hr Qs….We checked around and only the people that are usually in wvw were in it. No JP no AFKs.
Anet kittened the ques up somehow, because Im hearing multiple people say their bl only has about 20 ppl in them and yet their having 5hr ques. Its irritating because for all servers reset night is a huge night and to be screwed over of having your full crew run and getting stuck in these qs from hell is kitten and messes up everyone.
For example, one of my friends was in Q right when reset started and didn’t get into it until after 6-7hrs even when people he knew were getting in faster then him after qing after him.
Because if you knew you were 201 out of 201 you would just log off and not play. Its their way of making you be signed on.
I didn’t say you needed to know when you would get the queue. Just that the order of queuing isn’t the order of when you get to join the WvW map. It’s random.
Obvious something is wrong. Not just TC or the Euro servers now either.
To borrow a meme from football manager….
Sortitoutanet!
…still no official comment from anet, this is from far the worst issue in this game for any wvw player. We can’t raid anymore with my guild
There are like 4-5 topics at the moment about queue in WvW. This needs to be fixed. Anet please show us you care and are looking into this ?
1 Hour + for any server is a game killer.. Anet you know this ! Throw some money at the problems and get the Culling and the Cues fixed.
WvW is the last refuge in this game for the players you promise wouldn’t have to grind and were all waiting to start playing the real potential of WvW. Tactics and coordination is a mess if you cant get on with a group or see what’s happening around you.
You are in long ques because you are in zerg servers.
My guild started in SoR.. then once it started going to high up in the ranks, the que times were about 6 hours long. It killed our guilds morale. So we jump ship down to a lower tier server, and love have no ques!
You’re either a troll or a fool. There is definitely some sort of bug in how GW2 handles queues.
Because if you knew you were 201 out of 201 you would just log off and not play. Its their way of making you be signed on.
No, I would just alt-tab do something else while periodically checking it every 5 minutes. There’s no reason not to show us our queue position.

I concur to this or would just go to orr and do some stuff while waiting or even do a dungeon while i wait for the queue.
Shouldn’t had moved to a big server if you wanted to avoid queues. There are no queues at all on CD.
apart from other queuing issues, the prevailing opinion on my server is that the culling patch has halved borderland capacity. I’d rather have culling than the lottery of whether I and my guild can get in to wvw.
…still no official comment from anet, this is from far the worst issue in this game for any wvw player. We can’t raid anymore with my guild
I’d say it’s the 2nd worst enemy of WvW players. First in my opinion would be the culling issue.
But I do agree. Even on Anvil Rock tonight we had issues with ques in different borderlands. Our guild would switch maps to protect a keep in our borderland and half would get stuck in a que. Completely killing our numbers though we would still put up a fight.
All those waiting in queues for hrs are welcome to transfer to ioj. you will never have to wait even on reset night simply log on and enter WvW any time you want. It really is great. Also there aren’t to many zergs running around which allow small organized groups to accomplish alot. I know many ppl feel sorry for ioj losing Alot of its pop but WvW has never been so much fun.
Add to the queue the people trying to get in for mapping and the puzzle too. They’re only in there to hang about till the poi they want is available or until a mesmer is ready to port them.
Who would have thought that there would be long queues the first reset after free transfers ended?
zerg servers may have an advantage in this situation. Their members having been trained to blob up. It doesn’t matter who’s specifically is in the blob. Whereas guild raid servers are going to struggle when they can’t get enough people in for the raid to function effectively. Anet have somewhat shot themselves in the foot after saying they wanted wvw to be less blobby.
So there is no queue length because it is random? Certainly evidence from chatting to guildmates whilst queueing would suggest entry in a WvW map is not based on next one in is the player waiting the longest.
I don’t understand why people keep saying “if you have a problem with ques, you should have gone to a lower population server.” No offense, but that’s a pretty stupid thing to say.
People aren’t upset with ques… they are upset because THEY DON’T WORK as a standard que. It’s an issue with the que mechanics that frustrate people. A lottery system where you can get in anywhere between 5mins and 3 hours. It’s either intended this way or it’s bugged…. same issue we’ve had since release.
Hello ANet,
As you can see from this Fridays reset queues have now trumped culling as our, your WvW communities highest priority.
We would like to understand:
1) Is the queue ordered fairly so the player who clicked first gets in first or is it random as subjective evidence appears? If not are you working on addressing this?
2) If the answer to 1 is yes it is fair, can you advise if there is work ongoing to implement a counter showing what number in the queue a player is in? If not could someone explain why not?
3) Waiting times seem to be increasing on many servers. Is this a technical issue as players are stating whereby the server still has players that have logged out of WvW maps counted as active? If so, are you working on fixing it and if not could you provide an explanation why not?
4) Now things have settled down after a large number of WvW players have congregated to just a few servers (for the record I am not on one of those servers and still waited 2 hours to log in yesterday), could a senior member of the team outline ANet strategy to reduce waiting times? Please also include your thinking on next month when we have a WvW centric patch implemented. This is likely to increase WvW populations significantly if you do it right but could spoil your plans and your disappoint regular WvWers if queue times increase still further for everyone.
Thank you ANet for creating a popular fun game. Your player base just like you want it to continue to thrive and feel these questions are important to that end.

waiting times are largely increasing because everyone wanted to be on the winning server before reset (aside from the queue order problems anet is dealing with) so you got tooooons of wvw transfers, and now a queue… while it helps you win in wvw, have fun waiting for outrageous amounts of time to actually play
there are many servers w/o queues, ironically, the ones most of you left from to go to the higher “winning” servers
(edited by SniffyCube.6107)
Had a 10min queue on SF today. Longest one I’ve sat in since Launch.
From the people I’ve talked to in our opposing servers, a lot of people have bailed for higher tier servers. It is becoming quite frequent that I message someone on my contacts just to find them on another server.
The score has also shown similar results, with us barely winning 3 weeks ago to us over doubling our opponents this week.

I understand why you say this but YB had 2 hour queues yesterday and it is felt by everyone we had a server deficit after the end of free transfers announcement so please keep your amusement which I share to a point out of this one as it is not the sole reason for queues
(edited by Ireniicus.2167)
1) The blue dot of a party member remaining on the map is not a new occurrence. It has been happening to my guild and me since launch. So most likely, it has nothing to do with the “bug”.
2) If you party with someone, you will be pushed back in the queue. For example, if I have a 2min wait ahead of me, and my friend has a 10min wait, then I will be bumped back if I party with them. I’m not sure if I get bumped to the 10min mark, or to the end of the queue along with my party mate.
I’ve also noticed friends getting in earlier than me if I zone. Doesn’t happen every time, but occasionally.
3) A LOT of players bailed from lower tier server prior to paid transfers going live.
I don’t know if something changed or if the general message was delivered to pugs and guildies alike (do not log out in WvW, exit through a portal), but BG’s queues on EBG dropped significantly and people were readily able to get in and the population was definitely looking full~ish. Contrast this with upwards of 4-5 hours of queue at reset with less than a full roster of people actually playing.

there I fixed it for you
WvW is extremely popular due to the rest of the game becoming stale .If theres anything that will keep this game alive is WvW.
WvW is Arenanet’s golden goose.
It’s a shame they seem dead keen on killing it.
A few points from the replies so far…
1) Myself or my guild never transferred to this server, we have been here since the beginning.
2) A few people have suggested transfering to a lower populated server. Well what if this problem wasnt fixed and the majority of us who cannot get in because of the queues transfered to a lower populated server along with everyone else from other servers with similar problems. The new servers we goto could then have a larger influx of players because of this and make the same problem there, causing these queues for this new server. So potentially we could bunny hop servers and end up reversing the problems to these new servers with them going from lower populated ones to over populated hour long queue servers. So without a solution I dont think this is viable. And as Skinnyb mentioned.. “You can’t just take high tier players and tactics down to a low tier server. You end up steamrolling every map and it ruins the fun for everyone.”
3) Porky bought up the problem about not knowing how long the queue is, you could be sitting there for 5 mins or 5 hours and not know when your going to get in. I like his idea about some kind of indicator or timer to let you know how long the queue may be. Not sure if this is possible but it may be quite helpfu.
4) Lastly, from our last WvW event I do actually remember something now about one of out party members remaining on the map even though he went offline quite some time ago. His party dot was on the keep waypoint throughout the event until we reformed our party at least. So perhaps the WvW is bugged and is unintentionally keeping players inside WvW even though they have left or gone offline. Of course if this is happening and until it’s fixed we should all try and leave WvW altogether when we finish/logoff etc to make space for others if possible instead of logging off inside.
Well that what happens when every zerglovingbandvagoner transfers to top tier servers.
Well there is space on the other servers.. you know the ones that got abandoned for the next great thing. SBI has no queue on any map.
Every day there are a few posts asking for number increases, new maps, something that anet should do.. how about maybe- just maybe, consider your choice as a player and guild not to choose such high wvw population servers?
I am truly sorry for the players that had been on servers since the beginning and having to face queues because of the mass transfers, but honestly most of those servers were asking people to move there. Sure there was a 5 min queue before you attracted 1000s of new players. Just think what the queue will be with the new wvw additions that are suppose to be coming.
I do not think it is right that everyone crammed into 4 or 5 servers knowing that there are max capacity for maps and then complain about having to wait. That was something that should have been considered before moving imo.
Again sorry if it was your server before and if it is a weird bug that sucks and hope it is fixed, but seriously consider how many people moved in the last week expecting their wvw experience to be so amazing now that they are on “the” server to be on.
I hope they do not raise the population caps so that maybe there will be people that do transfer to the lower population servers and in time maybe they will all be somewhat even and fun for everyone involved.
Yah I agree. I prefer high population servers but I am fully aware of the consequences of that when I make my decision. I feel bad for a lot of people that are getting screwed by the mass exodus that we recently witnessed though.
My server was on the side of a bunch of guilds leaving though so even being an upper-middle tier server we still have no major issues with queues. You can always find some map to play on.
There may be some issue with ‘ghosting’ though. I never noticed till the other night that a friend of mine that has DC issues was never leaving the map, even when he finally left for good. If it was happening before the patch it didn’t stand out to me; but, it does seem to be happening now. I read about it on this thread so I am apparently not the only one who has noticed this.

Yaks bend isnt noted for long queues . At reset maybe 40=60 mins maximum. Today there were 4 hour queues on all maps. Up to 20 d/c at one time and could not get in the rest of today. In fact we did not have a map commander for the first 4 hours of reset on YBBL. Not able to get in!!! The queue system appeared bugged last week now I am certain it is. Crashing to desktop is also much more common.
Well that what happens when every zerglovingbandvagoner transfers to top tier servers.
Go troll somewhere else.
OT: tonight there was 30/40 on our side when i crashed around 3:00 am. When i tried to get back to the border i got put in queue for around 10 mins. Not a long time but still not reflecting the population present in the border at that time.
You can’t just take high tier players and tactics down to a low tier server. You end up steamrolling every map and it ruins the fun for everyone.
The main reason that high tier servers are “high tier” is because they have more players willing to play WvW.
Crashing to desktop is also much more common.
That’s because the increase in placeholder models eats up more of your memory. The crashes to desktop occur when your computer maxes out its RAM (just open the crash log report details and it says “out of memory” right at the top). Upgrade your computer or decrease your graphics settings.
Also, there appears to have been NO CHANGE WHATSOEVER to the queue system. All of you people are convinced that there is some massive edit. What evidence do I have to back this up? My server (NSP- Tier 6) had an enormous increase in participation tonight. We had truly massive NSP zergs show up for the first time ever and proceeded to completely smash two servers who usually are an equal match in EB. Chances are, your servers are having the same increase in WvW participation.
Honestly though, the queue times kinda serve you right for abandoning your comrades and bandwagoning yourselves onto high population servers just because you wanted to be number 1. Otherwise (if you’re not a transfer), you have my sympathy.
3 things:
1. Revert the game back to the culling system before this last patch. I’m not sure why we went with the wintersday update as a fix, but it was bad then and it’s bad now. There is culling in PVE in an empty zone now.
2. Something definitely happened tonight in regards to cap size, all of our maps were queued within seconds. Our server is a spam “F” and stare into the dark abyss server on reset night and we still never have trouble getting in because our borderlands are assigned in such a way that we have the guilds spread out. We still saw only 50-67% of our guilds get in and that’s never really happened before.
3. This isn’t just a T1/high pop issue. We are aware of what a reset queue looks like. We know that the queue sucks and the best way to get into WvW is to reset your queue every 20m. The issue was the population that actually got in was lower.
If the issue has to do with people not logging out, it still doesn’t address why we couldn’t get people in at reset.

fair comment
Yeah it’s totally not a bug, you’re right. That’s why when I told a guild member who’d been queued for five hours to reset his queue two times then wait 15 mins he got in in 10.
On a side note the window for entering Green BL at reset was approximately 3.5 seconds, after which the queue bugged. Various different approaches have worked to fix the queue on an individual basis, but it hasn’t sorted itself out yet in full.
Its clear they significantly reduced the WvW population allowed in the zones.
This seems like the correct answer.
JQ almost never had queues, I know we recruited a lot in the last weeks but I have 3-4 hr EB queue and about 10-20 minutes on borderlands.
Anet have definitely reduced the concurrent player count and they need to change it back or mass rage will build.
What is the point of putting in all these great WvW changes in February if we can’t get in to play the game!
Add another WvW map!
But seriously in stead of trying to get into borderland during primetime on reset night, go to sleep early with your entire guild and get up at like 4 am to ensure there’s an early morning coverage.
What is the deal with these super long Ques for WvW on Kaineng? I can see maybe a 15-20 minutes but over an hour? The forces that can actually get in are outnumbered because over half of our forces are tied up in the Ques waiting. I have been one of those. Now that we have a good matchup I WANT to WvW again but can not get in.
Word to the wise: If you don’t want queues, don’t play on a bandwagon server like Kaineng. There are plenty of servers with 0 queue time. Maybe you should have transferred to one of those instead of the server that every bandwagoneer and their mother transferred to.

1 – They have already said it is first in first out.
2 – Many players have suggested this.
3 – This is NOT a technical issue. It’s an issue where all the transfer babies all transferred to a small subset of servers and now wonder why all 20,000 (exaggeration) of them can’t join the same battleground at the same time.
4 – They aren’t going to do anything to “reduce the wait” that’s up to the transfer system to take care of. Don’t like the long queues? Find a new server.
(edited by GottFaust.5297)
It would should be called lottery join instead of queue …
Half of my friends are waiting for hours while the other half get in in 5 min
Just a quick note to those accusing people complaining about playing on bandwagon server, take your kitten some place else. There are MANY loyal people who have been on a server since beta who are now subject the atrociously bugged queues. Why must we leave a community we’ve built up from the ground because other people joined the server?
Fix your game ArenaNet, it’s in a bad place right now.
Not many people addressed the fact that there were VERY few numbers allowed in the maps, it appeared there were only roughly 40 people per map, which also led to the increase in queue’s…. b4 patching way more than 40 were allowed per map per server….
if they want it to be less blobby, release a bigger map!!!!!
My suggestion to everyone. Inform everyone to quit WvW by exiting to LA instead of directly logging off GW2 in WvW. Not sure if it works but worth a try.
I believe if you encountered a disconnection by the server, ur player remains in wvw for a good 30 mins. If this disconnetion is often, im sure many spots will be taken up by disconnected users
At 6am PST Kaineng BL still had a queue. None of the other borderlands in our matchup had queues and there appears to be plenty of fighting in all maps. I’m not saying this is a bug or anything, just reporting some additional info. Kaineng has a good oceanic population so it’s not out of the question that we could have a queue at this time of day.
Ive been waiting close to an hour and a half for Tier 1 Queue. I read somewhere a guild did a test and found it was really random and some of their guild members would queue at same time and some would get in within a short time and others would have to wait a long time. The server population caps are probably too high for the WvW too handle right now. Glad I am Oceanic were the queues are generally lower. If I was from NA or Europe I would probably move to a lower tier server so I could actually get in. Only weekends are really bad.
if they want it to be less blobby, release a bigger map!!!!!
The maps are as big as they are going to get. Anet has stated these are the largest they can make them.
Also, this was from the TC thread about queue issues. I found it somewhat helpful. They are reading, but after a ton of QQueue threads, how do you think they could answer them all. From Habib Loew:
Hi all,
Queues are per map, per team – so there is a queue for TC players on the Eternal Battlegrounds and a different queue for TC players on each Borderlands, and a different queue for each of the other teams on each of the maps.
During the time it takes for players to change maps it is possible for there to be a queue even if there are less players in a map than the maximum capacity because the players taking up those empty slots are still “in flight” between maps. It’s also possible for a slot to take a while to fill if e.g. people see the queue pop, wait until the progress bar for the automatic transfer is almost empty, and then choose to renter the queue. At that point the system will move on and look for other players to fill that slot but all of that takes a bit of time. We’ve watched the queue numbers a lot and generally it’s only a few slots that are in this reserved state at any time.
Just to be sure I ran a quick database query for the last few days and all the queue numbers look quite reasonable.
So I don’t know where in the map those players are when you’re looking for them, but they’re definitely in there somewhere!
And also, what Faded said.
Just a quick note to those accusing people complaining about playing on bandwagon server, take your kitten some place else. Fix your game ArenaNet, it’s in a bad place right now.
I understand you had nothing to do with the state your server is currently in, but that’s not A-Net’s fault either. It’s the fault of all the bandwagoneers who jumped on your server and screwed it up. Unfortunately the only way to fix this is for either them to leave or you to leave. Good luck convincing all the idiots to leave the server, especially with payed transfers as they are now.
There’s nothing wrong with the game. A-Net can’t fix it if there’s nothing wrong. There IS something wrong with the community though…
GottFaust has it. There are some things Anet can’t fix because in order to do so they would have to be able to fix average human behavior and intelligence which is less than stellar.
